GM Mort |

You can't rest on the plains either. Devourers and nightwings. You have time enough to summon Zil, and that's about it for this excursion.

Mr. Whiskers |

Alright
"I'm going to summon Zil. Hopefully he has a wand of lesser restoration, several potions of it, or a scroll of restoration so we can bring Crummock back to consciousness."
I don't remember which is the best solution, but his stock will effect things.
With that, Mr. Whiskers summons the merchant and immediately apologizes to him for the inhospitable location.

GM Mort |

Zilvazaraat appears. "Hey hey! You guys haven't been calling me for a while! Wassup?" He asks the party genially
"Oooh pretty chilly in here. " He pulls out a spacesuit out of his secret chest and starts putting it on. "So what do you need?"
He waves off Mr Whiskers apology. "Don't worry aboutt it, that's why I bought a spacesuit from Coruscant for."
Zil has a fully charged wand of lesser restoration, a scroll of restoration. He also has a scroll of resurrection. Anything else, start rolling.
The party also notices that after the teleport, the plains are empty and the ruined fortress is no where to be seen.

Crummock-i-Phail |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I am more interested in the fact that apparently, Star Wars is now cannon for this AP, which means we can go find some lightsabres ;-)
Alright, if we buy the scrolls (Restoration for Crummock, and Resurrection for Dimitri), that leaves us with 49620.66gp each. From memory, his 'maximum item value' was 8000gp, correct?

Crummock-i-Phail |

Scarlet and Blue Sphere Ioun Stone: 1d100 ⇒ 60.

Scroll of Blood Money: 1d100 ⇒ 34.
I will take the rest in a mixture of ruby and diamond dust, thanks ;-)

GM Mort |

Coruscant was actually mentioned before
Hmm, I like Star Wars =)
Doesn't Pathfinder already have lightsabres?
Yes on max value

Crummock-i-Phail |

Kind of - those only work on flesh - you couldn't cut through blast doors with them :-/
Re: Fixing the rest of the Con drain (Greta) and negative levels (Einar and Greta), I can't do that until I have had a chance to rest, and change my Patron.

GM Mort |

They just need to save the next day and see if they can throw those negative energy levels off on their own.

Crummock-i-Phail |

Yes, but if they *don't* make the saves, they become permanent negative levels, which means they can only be removed expensively, and slowly...
...the question then, I guess, is, 'are you feeling lucky...?'

Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson |
Yes, but if they *don't* make the saves, they become permanent negative levels, which means they can only be removed expensively, and slowly...
...the question then, I guess, is, 'are you feeling lucky...?'
not that lucky, what do I need to purchase to not take any chances?

GM Mort |

Tomorrow will draw the save. I get the impression that the neg levels need to be fixed on the same day so we'll just roll with that.
Negative levels remain until 24 hours have passed or until they are removed with a spell such as restoration. If a negative level is not removed before 24 hours have passed, the affected creature must attempt a Fortitude save (DC 10 + 1/2 the draining creature’s racial HD + the draining creature’s Cha modifier; the exact DC is given in the creature’s descriptive text).

Mr. Whiskers |

I know it is a large chunk of the money, but I'm surprised neither Crummock nor Einar wanted the permanent +3 to Charisma from the book.
"Let's start with the scroll of of Restoration for Crummock. That way we can try to get him awake. Don't bother giving me any change right away, we will be buying more! At very least, I suspect we will be buying the scroll of resurrection."
Mr. Whiskers hands over one of the baykok bows.
Scroll of Restoration for this is 800 gp, correct?
Mr. Whiskers then goes to use it on Crummock.
He has read magic in memory, so we can skip that step.
UMD, Use a scroll: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (16) + 23 = 39 Need a 27
UMD, Emulate Wisdom: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (18) + 23 = 41 Need a 24, Yes it is an auto pass.
Mr. Whiskers smiles brightly at seeing it work for him.

Crummock-i-Phail |

@Mr Whiskers: Regarding the Tome, well, it takes 6 days to benefit from it, and it grants an inherent bonus, which doesn't stack with the one I already have from 'taking the mantle' back in Book 1...
Crummock groans as he returns to consciousness.
"That... was painful! Like a thousand tiny little needles all at once..."
Quickly taking in the situation, he nods.
"Right. So we did win."
He then turns to Zilvazaraat.
"Glad I am to see ye. We have need for your services..."

Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson |
I know it is a large chunk of the money, but I'm surprised neither Crummock nor Einar wanted the permanent +3 to Charisma from the book.I think the problem here is that Einar would have to actually read the tome for it to work for him...
Scroll of Restoration for this is 800 gp, correct?
this will get rid of the negative levels...Two please, one for now and one for later, apparently Einar is a 'negative level magnate.
scroll of restoration: 1d100 ⇒ 55scroll of restoration: 1d100 ⇒ 15
ouch, does that mean no second scroll? Still thinking about other things...
While Mr. Whiskers is thinking Einar asks "Nice suit Zilvazaraat, do you have any scrolls for helping me get my mojo back? I feel 'less than myself'"

GM Mort |

Mr Whiskers second fort: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
Yeah definitely not a problem. 2 consecutive saves condition fulfilled

Crummock-i-Phail |

Apparently Einar is a 'negative level magnate'.
I like the idea that Einar is a wealthy businessman, dealing in negative levels ;-)

Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson |
Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson wrote:Apparently Einar is a 'negative level magnate'.I like the idea that Einar is a wealthy business, dealing in negative levels ;-)
800gp scrolls only get rid of ability drain; to also get rid of the negative level(s), you need a 1700gp scroll.
That's what I get for trusting spell check, ok 1700gp instead of 800gp, noted.

Crummock-i-Phail |

Note: I already budgeted for a second scroll to 'cure' Greta's ability drain/negative levels.
It looks like Dimitri will have to wait for his one to be fixed, later...

GM Mort |

2 scrolls only from Zilvazaraat, since the dice have spoken. The one he started with and the one Einar bought

Mr. Whiskers |

A scroll of Greater Restoration is 2,275 + 5,000 = 7,275 gp. and gets rid of all negative levels.
A mnemonic vestment would allow Crummock to cast the Restoration once a day and only costs 5000. He would have to change clothes to use it.

Mr. Whiskers |

So? Do you have a better way to get Restoration or Greater Restoration on your spell list? 4th level page of spell knowledge is 16K.

Crummock-i-Phail |

As I said, wait until tomorrow morning (which is *not* 24 hours after the negative levels were accrued), and then channel the Healing Patron, which gives me Restoration.
It just means that Greta/Dimitri will still be down a bit until then.

Mr. Whiskers |

Alright, then you have a way to get it. Sorry, hadn't realized that was the case. Must have missed when you said it.
Mr. Whiskers ask about a few different items he is interested in himself.
Upgrade Dust, lesser Electricity metamagic Rod to normal, 8K: 1d100 ⇒ 77
Boots of Striding and Springing, 5.5K: 1d100 ⇒ 78
Upgrade Dust, Cloak of Resistance to +4, 7K: 1d100 ⇒ 4
Four Left Clover, 3750: 1d100 ⇒ 73
Ioun Stone, Dusty Rose Prism, 5K: 1d100 ⇒ 11
Ioun Stone, Magenta Prism, Cracked, 800 gp: 1d100 ⇒ 68
Ioun Stone, Magenta Prism, Cracked, 800 gp: 1d100 ⇒ 7
Ioun Stone, Magenta Prism, Cracked, 800 gp: 1d100 ⇒ 39

Ioun Stone, Mossy Disk, 5k: 1d100 ⇒ 62
Bottled Yeti Fur, 800 gp: 1d100 ⇒ 47
So it is anything 75% or less, right? Struck through the ones that failed.
Edit to add: Above total 28950 + 4,500 for wand of Lesser Restoration = 33450.
Mr. Whiskers thanks Zil and takes the items he had.
...and I've finally gone for the cloud of ioun stones look.

Crummock-i-Phail |

Eh. As long as you are internally consistent, I don't think it matters. That said, I have always done it as 'low roll' is bad, not high (unless I am playing Call of Cthulhu!).
Also, Ooo! Cracked Ioun Stones!
Cracked Pale Green Prism: 1d100 ⇒ 32.
Cracked Pale Green Prism: 1d100 ⇒ 51.

Mr. Whiskers |

Having completed his shopping, he asks to see the crown and doll.
He spends a few minutes examining them closely, trying to understand how they are linked. He reviews the plans from the world engine as well, hoping that may provide some clues.

GM Mort |

The crown appears to contain Baba Yaga's power and may be able to be used to break open the matryoshka doll holding Baba Yaga trapped, but Mr Whiskers has no idea how to do so.

Mr. Whiskers |

Smiling, Mr. Whiskers mentions to Zil "Keep looking for those mossy disks, I'm in the market for the rest of the set."
Thinking a moment, he then asks "Do you have a gift that div might appreciate? A bottle of alcohol or perhaps a tea?" Gesturing around, he adds "I imagine there isn't much variety around here."
Looking to the group, he asks "Has everyone else finished their shopping?"
Looking towards the tent, he adds "Well, I have no idea how this is going to work, but let's get going!"

Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson |
'Finished? hhhhmmmmmm.' Einar shrugs his shoulders noncommittally, "The more we fight undead, the more I think I should have got a weapon specifically for them. But I'm done for now."
Hearing that Mister Whiskers was buying the genie a gift, Einar shakes his head. "I don't know why your wasting money on him, he's an arrogant cad."

GM Mort |

"I'll check Hoth. There's quite the underground market down there." Zilvazaraat promises. "Divs...hmm,they like things that remind them of their desert homelands. I'd suggest a flask of jellab. I've got some in this thermosflask that keeps things cool, if you aren't travelling for more then 4 hours. 50gp and the flask and it's contents are yours! "

Mr. Whiskers |

With a chuckle, Mr. Whiskers says "I thought you already did have one for them -- a ghost touch weapon?"
With a shrug, he says "I suppose if there is something that would provide protection like a deathward, that would be useful."
As he pays Zil for the flask, he adds "As for the gift, it is good manners -- especially since he did help us."

GM Mort |

Mametqul walks out of the tent as the party approaches and he sniffs the air speculatively. "I smell the crown on you."
Counting the number of heads, he remarks, " You seem to be one short. Are you sure everyone is present? "
Then he glares at Einar."Oh you! Why don't you just hand me the crown so I can get all of you out of this place into Grandmother's cauldron. That way I don't have to put up with your presence." He grumbles exasperatedly.

Einar 'Kinslayer' Bjornson |
earlier
Nodding in agreement with Mister Whiskers, "Yeah, but it's more for incorporeal ghosts. I need something for walking zombies or skeletons. Something that is the bane of their existence. Something with reach, but would crush any skeletons. Maybe a Lucerne hammer or something." He shrugs his shoulders still pondering.
'Help us?' Einar looks at Mister whiskers, quizzically, not able to resist the urge to speak. "Help us? All he did was point us to the castle at the end of the road and tell us there were flying guards. While were going to free him from his servitude to the great hag, he should be kissing our feet. Good manners or not, he's a jerk."
Now
As the genie glares at Einar while he rants, Einar looks at Mister Whiskers, raising an eyebrow and mouths the word 'JERK.'

Mr. Whiskers |

Mr. Whiskers brings out the strange flask.
"Yes, we are one short. It seems that the Baykoks were aware of what a rifle could do. Strange, since our world doesn't have them yet and even on that other world they seemed to be a recent invention."
Smiling, he adds "Fortunately we have the means to bring him back."
"I brought a refreshment that was recommended to me." he says as he holds forth the flask. "I am interested in hearing how it is that you will be using the crown and thought something to drink may be a nice way to start the discussion."
He offers the flask, saying "It is something the merchant called jellab?" The way he pronounces jellab makes it clear that he isn't familiar with the drink.

GM Mort |

"Such are the fortunes of war," He commiserates with Mr Whiskers. "But in war - sometimes sacrifices must be made to achieve victory. It is good to hear that you have the means to bring him back."
"Ah baykoks. Never heard anything good about them. Probably a good thing I stayed here watching from a distance."
As Mr Whiskers gifts Mametqul the flask, he looks surprised, ”Really, jellab?” Then he unstoppers it and takes a good sniff, and his expression changes to one of delight. ”Oh, I haven’t had this for so long. Alya, bring out the cup!” One of the sullen females obey, and he pours himself some out of the cup she handed to him, and pours himself a drink out of the flask, and takes a sip. ”This is really the good stuff.” His expression changes to one of bliss. ”I really can’t accept such a generous gift for nothing.” He takes out a floating feather token from one of his robe pockets, ”Here, take this in return. It can grant you wings, for albeit a short while.” And offers it to Mr Whiskers. ”It’s been nice speaking to someone who has good manners, unlike some rude, ill-mannered, foul-mouth lout I have had the misfortune to meet.” He gives Einar a sidelong glance.
”Karima, Zuhai. Bring out the ornate wooden wall cabinet.” He commands, as two more of his female slaves haul out the wooden cabinet. ”Place the crown within the cabinet, then all of you reach out and touch it. Including the tiger. I’ll activate the cabinet, and all of you will be transported to Grandmother’s Cauldron. ”
For the purposes of this - Dimitri's body will be considered part of the possessions of the person holding the sack of holding and will be transported as well. Ready?
You could say the crown would work like a Portkey after being put in the cabinet and the cabinet has been activated

Mr. Whiskers |

Although a crack appears in his smile at being reminded of the slaves, still Mr. Whiskers is pleased that his gift is appreciated. "Thank you." he says, accepting the feather token.
Maybe it is just that Einar and he are too much alike. They both seem to enjoy violence and think slavery is perfectly acceptable. Probably just need to get drunk together...which given our current task is a bad idea. Time to get back to it.
Gesturing in the direction that the castle had been in, he asks "So is your task here complete once we leave?"
Once the cabinet is brought out, he gets in place and ready to use it.

GM Mort |

"Yes, it will be." Mametqul answers succinctly.
When everyone has done as instructed, he taps the top of the wooden cabinet once on the top and twice on the side. The world shimmers, then fades away, and the party finds themselves in the grotto, next to the sacred pool, surrounded by sheer rock cliffs broken by myriad ledges and fissures. The sound of falling water echoes through the grotto and a fine, chill mist fills the air with sparkling droplets. They smell the smell of peas soup and roasted trout, and find themselves still holding to the crown.
Anastasia is sitting on a stone helping herself to the peas soup in the cauldron of plenty out of a wooden bowl. ”Oh, you’re back. Want some peas soup?” She offers, then looks at the party. ”Wait, where’s Dimitri?”
Zorka on the other hand has joined the rest of the Russian soldiers, who currently have a good fire going and are busy roasting trout. The party notices that despite them being in rather peaceful conditions, they are still carrying their guns, and there are 3 soldiers on a lookout for any trouble. ”Yeah, we deferred to our Princess,” Pavel rolls his eyes upwards, ”to fix what she liked for lunch.”
”Guess what she got? Our royal highness decided she missed Polish food and asked for PEAS SOUP. Who in their right mind would eat that greenish mush when there’s a whole lakeful of trout around?”He gives Anastasia an irritated glare.
”Look, peas soup is high in fibre, high in minerals, loaded with nutrition and may lower your risk of heart disease and diabetes.” Anastasia protests, defending her actions.
”At least her royal highness was more useful in telling us if the water was safe to drink or if the fish were still poisoned by that cow-thing.” Another soldier named Zakhar adds in. ”After that cow-thing died in it and turned into mud, a couple of vultures came and took off all the dead fish. Then the water shimmered blue for a moment, and the trout from the other side came back. Since they didn’t belly flop, we figured it should be safe, but Zorka had our royal highness check just to be sure.”
A third Russian soldier, Igor, who is cutting more fishing poles out of a felled Rowan tree adds, ”Yeah, this place isn’t too bad, the fish are biting. Alexander, Mark and Leo are out there looking for other edibles. If they find some pheasants around, we might be able to get roasted pheasant on the menu next. Their eggs would make a good omelette too.”
”Wait,”Anton remarks noticing something amiss. ”Where’s Dimitri?”

Mr. Whiskers |

Lowering his head a moment, Mr. Whiskers admits "Dimitri died in one of our battles. It seems that our opponents feared his gun more than any of the rest of us."
"Fortunately we acquired a way to bring him back. I think Crummock will try that tomorrow, once we've had a chance to partially recover ourselves." he says, looking towards Crummock.
Gesturing to the rest of the group, he admits "None of us came out without some injuries."
He then moves over to the cauldron and sniffs at the soup. Wrinkling his brow, he asks "What sort of peas are used for this?" as he takes a bowl and puts some in it. Looking towards the soldiers, he adds "Hopefully it goes well with trout?"
After a meal, Mr. Whiskers feels ready to answer their questions in more depth.

GM Mort |

"Look - Dimtri is a good guy. We got drunk together, killed our first man in the same battle...and you said he got killed AGAIN?!"Anton glares angrily at Mr Whiskers. "And it isn't the first time he's died on one of YOUR expeditions. Couldn't you have tried to save him? I would have."
"I'd punch you in the face, but it wouldn't make any difference." Anton gives Mr Whiskers a black look.
"See? I told you adventuring was a dangerous business, and I was perfectly right not to have joined you. I like being alive, thank you very much." Anatasia answers.
Then she realizes she might have been a little insensitive."I am sorry about Dimitri.I'd help with your injuries, but I've spent most of my morning at magical practice and I don't really have much left."
One restoration is available for use, other then that it's all <4th level spells
"I don't know."Anastasia looks slightly embarrassed. "I wished for peas soup when I stirred the cauldron. I think its probably the split pea?"
"I'm not sure it goes well with trout," Anastasia admits hesitantly,"But you could try." She suggests to Mr Whiskers.

Mr. Whiskers |

Mr. Whiskers ears droop a little at the accusations.
"Yes, it is dangerous. I believe that I explained that to each of you before you came."
Moving over to an open spot, he says "Let me eat, then we can discuss how to better protect him and the rest of you as we continue." as he sits down.
Mr. Whiskers takes a spoonful of the soup and tries it. Rather bland. No wonder none all of the soldiers are more interested in the fish.

GM Mort |

"Look, he went out with you wearing nothing but a trench coat. I've heard the Americans came up with a fully cushioned with “vulcanized sponge-rubber” body armour made with the latest metal alloys that could stop a .45 ACP at 1000 ft. per second (and a rifle ball at 1250 ft. per second)." Anton explains, still in a black mood.
"Couldn't you get hold of some of those suits? Or for all your great magical powers, couldn't you put up SOME kind of protections for him? Or can magic only be used to kill?" Anton adds cuttingly.

Mr. Whiskers |

"I don't know what rubber is, nor how it relates to a volcano. As for the coat, I thought that was some sort of armor." Mr. Whiskers replies between bites of the soup. It looked like armor to me! I hope that wasn't what Dimitri meant when he was asking for spells earlier.
"I think you need to explain this technological equipment to me a little better. In answer to your question, yes magic can provide protection. I do need to understand what you already have though, in order to know what sort of things you need."
I'm fine with just saying they explain things to Mr. Whiskers, no sense in doing a full info dump.

GM Mort |

Anton explains what rubber is - it's made up from the sap of a tree, and draws the prototypes using paper provided by Mr Whiskers.
"Well - the armor was made by the Americans. I've heard about it, but never actually got to have one. " Anton replies.
He explains that they are wearing russian army uniforms - which are made out of waterproof heavy duty cotton. Dimitri's trench coat is also waterproof, heavy duty cotton. Which don't really do ANYTHING to turn away bullets, or weapons. Counts as civilian clothes - so no armor bonus. They have no nat armor, deflection bonuses or whatsoever. The soldiers generally make use of every scrap of cover they can find during the war so as to protect themselves from enemy fire.
A tired Greta adds, "I'd rather you use the mage armor on him, then me. I haven't gone wolf for a long time, and for the rest of the time I have my elven chain on."

GM Mort |

The party sees a vision of the doll submerged in the pool with the crown in their mind, and feels an urge to submerge the doll in the pool with the crown.

Mr. Whiskers |

Mr. Whiskers spends some time with the soldiers asking some more detailed questions about their weapons -- which he keeps comparing to firing a crossbow -- and what they would want for cover in a fight.
He asks where they would want stone walls for protection and how they would want them arranged. He encourages the men to pace the outlines of what they would want, giving them dimensions that just happen to match what he can create with a wall of stone spell.
After that discussion, he spends a little time with Anastasia asking how she is doing.

Mr. Whiskers |

Mr. Whiskers takes the crown and doll, wading into the water with them.
He arranges the crown in the sand at the bottom of the pool, and then places the doll in the center so the crown surrounds it. He looks at it a moment, and adjusts things trusting in his intuition.
He then carefully backs out of the pool and watches for signs of anything happening.

GM Mort |

The men discuss among themselves and then get to Mr Whiskers on the fortification they would want.
Basically the grey are the walls, yellow the door. The walls are to be 40 feet above ground, and at least 5 ft wide. [ooc](so that people can hide behind the walls and shoot) The stairs to the walls will be inside the walls, and they intend to dig a well in the centre to ensure a constant water supply. Yellow is the doors to enter the fortification.
They ask if it is possible to make the ground surrounding the fortification hard to cross(try to make it DT), and and if it is possible to create stone buildings in the centre so they will be protected from the weather and aerial bombardment.
That's about as much as I can come up with for now
Anastasia's morning has been occupied by training with Zorka, and reading the pile of books Mr Whiskers gave her. Zorka, after trying Anastasia's pea soup, promises to give her lessons in potion making, in hope of maybe making a better cook out of her.
