Round 5
Anna remains at the door, looking for a target.
Andjela remains under the tumultuous water.
Danica remains in place and holds her action.
Kimberly stays near Anna and also surveys the room.
The water in the center of the room continues to bubble and froth. Andjela still remains under the surface.
Tolvan, disappointed that Kimberly could not channel again, blasts a letter of Andjela's name from the wall. With his attack, the very walls of the entire room start to shudder, as the unholy power of the haunt the wizard just destroyed was somehow supporting the time and water weakened room already. The feelings which tried to leach you of your will fade completely from each of you and the walls slowly cease their shuddering, remaining upright and in place.

Tolvan shakes his head a couple of times to clear the remains of the fogginess from the haunt that is now destroyed. Looking around he tries to identify the next threat and is immediately drawn to to the churning pool and his friend immersed in its waters. Peering in to the tumultuous froth he catches a glepse of Andjela below the surface, and perhaps some other shape well below her; likely some threat.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Unable to discern the creature below Andjela with any detail, and unwilling to enter the water until the need is more dire, he does the only thing he can think to do to perhaps draw the attention of this chamber's supposed resident away from his friend and to him. Stepping back from the pool's edge he opens the moldy spellbook he is holding and and tears a first level spell from its binding while calling out Splatter Man, I have something of yours... .

Round 6
Anna clutches her crossbow with white-knuckled fingers. She stands over Kimberly, waiting for a moment for a clear shot at whatever's going to come bubbling up from the watery pit.
Andjela remains under the water, those who can see her can see her heavily armored form sinking deeper into the depths.

After seeing what he saw in your spoiler above Tolvan has stepped back 5' directly north.
As a free action Tolvan calls out that he hears something in the cell to the east. There, to the east. Something is in that cell. Danica get Andjela out of there if you can.
Unsure if the ripping of the spellbook had an effect he then prepares to cast a spell or rip another page, depending on the actions of the spirit that should act before him.

Round 7
Anna continues holding her action until she hears Tolvan announce the presence of some other threat in one of the cells. She then moves back into the Oubliette and inspects the cell. Inside she see's a shadowy, undead form wavering in the air, and fires a bolt at it. Causing it to cry out in an inhuman shriek.
Andjela continues to sink towards the remains at the bottom of the oubliette.

Kimberly continues to follow Anna staying by her side ready with a loaded crossbow. Alas she is too short to see into the cell door as Anna does. She glances toward the walls looking for signs of her name being spells on the wall, but sees none.
From the cell to the east, a undead human in tattered robes flies through the southern wall to hover in the air, eyes fixed on Tolvan and the moldy spellbook. It points a finger at the wizard, and unleashes two bolts of energy which each slam into him. -9hp Tolvan

Not stellar rolls. Can Tolvan id the creature or the spell he was hit with? IF Tolvan recognizes the spell as a Magic Missile which he can cast, he will choose to cast his Shield spell instead of ripping a page from the book. He might not survive another round of missiles without either some healing or that protection.
Tolvan cries out in pain and staggers back as the bolts of energy hit him, taking away half his life force. if I fall, someone else take up this book. Do not let that creature have it. he says flatly, gritting his teeth and moving closrt to Kimberly, who might be able to heal him.
Tolvan should be back one square from where he is on the map, and after his turn will take a 5' step towards Kimberly.
| GM Mug |
Tolvan successfully identifies the spell as Magic Missile, and the evil creature he faces is a powerful ghost wizard. It's hard to tell if he's more powerful in undeath than he was in life, but whatever limiting effect the undead Hawkrans have had on The Splatter Man is clearly waning.

Understanding of the threat grows in Tolvan as he comprehends what the group is fighting. He calls out a warning to his friends.
This creature is a ghost wizard, an incorporeal undead. We must bring it down quickly or it will end us.
So, has Tolvan ripped a second page, or may he cast his shield spell in response to the Magic Missiles? And since his desire is to be closer to Kimberly after he is wounded please allow him to step diagonally north and east instead of strait back. This should put him behind Danica.

Round 8
Anna's mouth goes dry as icy fear clutches her heart. Moving by instinct, she again passes the spent crossbow to Kimberly, not caring if it clatters to the floor. She takes the one in the Oracle's hands with the glinting magical bolt in place. She sights along its length and fires. The magical bolt takes a considerable amount of ectoplasmic substance as it passes through the Splatterman, and it turns burning eyes towards Anna.
If anyone happens to look into the now calm waters of the oubliette, might just be able to make out her armored form attacking something down in the depths.
Danica runs to Tolvan and says, "Put the book down. I'm gonna burn it." At that moment she clenches her fist and it begins to smoke. This would be a readied action for when Tolvan drops the book.
When the ghostly being become apparent Kimberly screams and unleashes her final Channel to harm undead. Andjela is not visible, and so she does not know to exclude her. The blast of holy energy rips through the room, taking a large piece of the Splatterman with it, but you can see the ghost was not as damaged as it could have been. -10hp to Andjela or -5hp with DC19 will save. The Splatterman has rents and gaps in the very fabric of his being, but he isn't finished yet. His eyes rove over you, his prey, and settle on Danica and her smoking fist, flying directly at her. It rushes to a stop right before her, hovering over the oubliette, and lashes out with a glowing green hand. YIKES! -23hp Danica, Fort Save DC17 for half. No AoO for Anna or Kimberly as you're unarmed or holding an unloaded crossbow.
Tolvan refrains from taking any action, strategically biding his time for a few seconds.

Seeing the ghost attack Danica Tolvan blasts it with a spell he knows should damage the creature. Stay away from her! he shouts.
Magic Missile: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
He then holds the book forth, turned to a new spell, for Danica to burn it if she can, or to rip a page, at her option, reminding her Danica, the divination said we had to rip the book, not burn it.

EDIT
Burst, Emanation, or Spread: Most spells that affect an area function as a burst, an emanation, or a spread. In each case, you select the spell's point of origin and measure its effect from that point.
A burst spell affects whatever it catches in its area, including creatures that you can't see. It can't affect creatures with total cover from its point of origin (in other words, its effects don't extend around corners). The default shape for a burst effect is a sphere, but some burst spells are specifically described as cone-shaped. A burst's area defines how far from the point of origin the spell's effect extends.
| Kimberly Snow |
kimberly did not exclude andjela becuase she could not see her. she had no idea she was way down at the bottom thus she would have total cover.

Round 9
Seeing the ghost attack Danica Tolvan blasts it with a spell he knows should damage the creature. "Stay away from her!" he shouts. The magical blast takes another good-sized chunk from the incorporeal being as it rips through it. He then holds the book forth, turned to a new spell, for Danica to burn it if she can, or to rip a page, at her option, reminding her, "Danica, the divination said we had to rip the book, not burn it.
Seeing the ghost move into melee with Danica, Anna's dagger flashes in her hand as she steps into a flanking position. Stepping to flank with Danica Her face is still drawn and tight, but she's letting instinct take over, and seeing an opportunity for a backstab, she's taking it. Her magic-imbued knife cuts into the exposed flank of the monster and it gnashes its teeth at her even as it recoils from her blade.
Andjela continues her underwater struggle at the bottom of the oubliette. Whatever she does seems to take a little more out of the Splatterman, his form now degenerating to near-wisps, but still he fights on.
The monk feels the spectral hand reaching for her soul. She focuses on her training to resist the damage. Danica then hears Tolvan message and she gives up on her Elemental Fist. She instead grabs at the book to help tear another page out, successfully removing another and creating an immense howl from the undead specter before her. It was 11hp damage last round Danica.
Kimberly grabs the empty crossbow Anna handed her and steps back enough so the bad ghost might not hit her. She loads the magic crossbow again with a bolt.
The Splatterman's form sags in the air, rent and torn in a dozen places. His glowing eyes flicker weakly, but with an intense hatred. Gathering himself, he reaches towards Danica once more, hand glowing green with unholy power. But even as he reaches towards her, the hand itself collapses into dark sand, seeming to set off a chain reaction as the rest of the specter begins the same process of deterioration. Realizing what is happening the Spatterman screams horribly and rushes about the room in panic, slamming into the west wall, and then the east, but unable to escape his prision. As he makes for the northern opening, above your heads, his body loses cohesion completely and he puffs into smokey nothingness.
Combat is now over. Congrats! You did it! 960xp for each of you!
