Hello All, Welcome Welcome to Gm Poblano's run through of the oh so wonderful Race for the Runecarved Key.

This table is for tier 5-6 and for Classic (Standard) play. Please if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.

As much as you are I too am looking for a fun play with this game.

About me
Hello The names Gary Pepper and I wanted to let you know a little about myself, I am an avid gamer, father of two and love to “learn it all”. I am still relatively new to the PbP GM gig but I feel with each game my style grows stronger. I’m the Venture Agent for my local area. Covering two stores and a contact for other home games in my area, which as you can guess means that I have to handle VA things as they arise. If I’m stuck in something I will let you know. :)

Some Expectations

I prefer games to flow at about 1 to 2 posts a day during the week and 1 to 2 over the weekend. I understand work, life, school and Venture Officer duties come up from time to time and like me posting while at work is a no-no. If that is the case for you if you could please try and check in before and after work if possible that would be great. We can find the right pacing as we go along.

I tend to post around 8 AM PST/PDT Mon-Fri and again at Noon PST/PDT. The weekends are wild for me so I get maybe a chance to post once or twice at random times.

Please let me know about any absences or crazy work days expected. If you're headed to a Con for a few days, that's okay, just let me know. I'll tell you about my crazy days too, for example Tuesdays are very busy between work and Society night so I may not post until way way late or possible the next morning.

I'm hoping that botting won't be needed, but I ask that everyone try to have a 'bot me' spoiler in their profile with key strategies and pre-formatted dice rolls. Happy GMs are safe GMs :p

I'm hopeful we will all have fun. I want enthusiasm, silliness, sound effects, team chemistry... If you want that too, I think we'll have a great game together that you can laugh about later in the future.

Don't think it’s crazy to have someone throw the halfling monk at the enemy hovering 20 feet in the air.

When Daniel first began, he ran across a few small dinosaurs who were trapped in a cave and attack the group. He recognized that they were just hungry and managed to stop the group from killing one of them.
Over time he and B.C. became good friends.

Improved Empathic Link The beast master gains an empathic link with all of his animal companions. This functions like an empathic link with a familiar, except the ranger can also see through a companion's eyes as a swift action, maintaining this connection as long as he likes (as long as the companion is within 1 mile) and ending it as a free action. The ranger can only see through the eyes of one companion at a time, and is blinded while maintaining this connection.

How has your character grown in Pathfinder Society? Tell me a bit about one or two highlights on your personal journey. This is my first PFS Fighter class character. I am experimenting with him as I learn more about PFS play in the middle levels (My highest level PFS characters are both L6). Joaquin has a knack for going on adventures that come very close to being total disasters for the group. His adventures in Thornkeep were epic nightmares.

Are there any special rules, equipment or other abilities that I need to know about for this character? In addition, if you have something that is made legal only by a boon, please list it here. He has four Ironflame Grenades he purchased via #8-19: Treacherous Waves.

Most notably, his encounter in Fangwood Keep. Won't give any spoilers, but found himself close to visiting Pharasma for judgement. He believes the society should burn the place to the ground, but was more than willing to borrow a book for his troubles.

Soul Drinker Trait from Dark Archives: 1/day can gain temp HP equal to enemies HD

Hex Channeler Witch - Allows him (or his pet) to channel 2d6 negative energy. Follows the same rules as a cleric's channel. I do have Selective channel, but can only avoid 2 people beyond myself and the familiar.

I have Deific Obedience (Pharasma). During my morning ritual to prepare spells, I also perform a ritual for my obedience. Grants me a +2 bonus to attacks with daggers.

Equipment - I have a 'Fate Blade'. It functions as a +1 silver dagger and allows me to cast disrupt undead at will.

Familiar is the emissary archetype. This grants it the ability to cast guidance at will, rebuke death 1/day and the "Share Will" ability.
----Share Will (Su): Whenever an emissary or its master fails a save against a mind-affecting effect that affects only one of the, the other can choose to attempt the save as well. If this second save succeeds, treat the original save result as a success, and the emissary and its master acan't use this ability again for 24 hours. On a failure, both the emissary and its maser suffer the effects of the failed saving throw, even if one of them wouldn't ordinarily be a valid target.

Odo has learned that he can’t jump very well (let’s just say it caused some nasty burns), so he changed his plans and stopped saving for mithral full plate and went for mithral breast plate instead and slightly better mobility. Odo is also quick with a heal and protection of innocent people and often acts as a spokesman whether to panicky opera patrons or freed slaves.

Rise of the Goblin Guild was with Sheila Heidmarch. I hated the goblins, especially their traps and their alchemist fire. We got along with one, though it turned my stomach to do so. She betrayed us in the end of course, just like I knew a goblin would. I struck the killing blow on their bugbear leader.

Nothing by way of a special boon that makes something legal for Anduris. As for special rules, the Occultist class focus mechanics are all I can think of that might be unfamiliar to some people.

I have a “Face Tattoo” from a certain 2-part scenario... :) (Trying to avoid spoilers of the scenario for others, I can elaborate over PM if desired. Or here, if other players don't mind knowing about the boons.)
Otherwise, I'm a fighter that hits things with swords, flails, and spears. Occasionally sling bullets. Mostly swords. The specialness hopefully comes from personality. :-)

Yes! About three and a half years ago, Redgar aided Venture-Captain Heidmarch in an rescue and recovery mission in Riddleport. Thanks to some quick thinking and fast talking courtesy of another party member (a gunslinger whose name has been lost to an overgrown tombstone near Sandpoint) and then some fast movement and solid swordplay from yours truly, the notable pirate Alejia Netrav was captured and returned to the authorities! Hirako Gurukaza was safely rescued, as well, and I seem to recall VC Hiedmarch was pleased with these events.

I also seem to remember some other of my party members going around and around in a little rowboat whilst some more... stalwart... blades climbed to do battle onboard a certain ship.

How has your character grown in Pathfinder Society? Tell me a bit about one or two highlights on your personal journey.

Redgar was originally a member of the Lantern Lodge. He is not from Tian-Xia, but rather is an Absalomian who admired and respected the goals and methods of our "Friends from across the Crown". The transition to the Grand Lodge was by necessity, not choice, and Redgar still looks forward to any opportunities to become involved with Tian adventures. To that end, he greatly enjoyed becoming acquainted with the "Oni-Style" at the House of Harmonious Wisdom. My recently-acquired tattoo, and the journey involved to acquire it, is one of the high points of Redgar's adventuring career.

Spiritually, Redgar's journey to the Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment prompted him to take up certain practices related to the worship of Kuroda. He's not a particularly well-read man, however, and for a variety of reasons he can be a little... confused... about some of the finer details.

Finally, this version of Redgar is actually Redgar 2.0. Courtesy of GM Credit and a replay or two, I have rebuilt my first PC who died a very untimely death in a TPK in RotRL: Part 1.

Escaped the Barghest whilst at 0 hp exactly, dragging an unconscious Gunslinger with me, but GM ruled that a particular roaming threat came by whilst we had tried barricaded ourselves in a room to recover to 1 hp.
I learned the importance of always having a way to get a magic weapon, and always having 1 more healing potion than you think you need.

Thank you all for understanding with the lack of post yesterday. My stores Society night took practically every waking minute I had! But 8-99A Solstice Scar went smoothly. Transitions and play for a three table game was a little rough at first but then we got our groove going.

Regular posting times will continue as normal now.

@ GM, no worries! Always great when a GM gets to play. (I find playing really helps me find my GM mojo, and vice versa).

@ Edgar: that sounds like an excellent spell (thank you for clarifying which one; I hadn't heard of it!) The rounds/lvl limit, especially when combined with the fact that everyone will have to fail the save or else the effect would be broken quickly (by one target initiating combat with us), are important limits I think... but I wonder if it would be possible to use the spell to keep the caravan (or at least the one wandering guard) fascinated while some of the rest of us quietly and politely and definitely not in a hostile fashion approach, perhaps unarmed, to walk off with the gold?

@Odo: I hope I haven't been too 'difficult'. I'm all for helping the paladin, esp. in character! My character would like to resolve things non-violently if possible, and is all for not killing people if possible. If our non-violent ways fail, however, I'm all for hitting them with swords.

@ Group: do we want to try a 'tiered' response? Something like:

a) Scout/find gold (in progress);

b) Prepare a couple of us to go try to lift the loot whilst guard is incapacitated. Maybe we lifters could leave arms and/or weapons with the rest of the party, so we can sneak better and appear non-threatening? Edgar's spell to disable the Guard and/or anyone else who wakes up could be a great tool in this regard?

c) If caught, we try to Dip/Bluff/Intimidate our way out of the situation;

d) If that doesn't work, good old fashioned violence, knocking out the mages first?

Building on Odo's ooc post, and what I think his idea is... I like it!

We might only need to abscond with one wagon, provided we identified the correct wagon and scattered or killed the other horses... plus we'd have an easy way to transport the gold back to the city.

In terms of pacifying the draft animals until we could harness them, I think the horses could be subject to fascinate, too, at least until removed from the cloud?

Also, just want to make sure I have my wagons right.

My understanding from this and looking at the map: covered wagon is occupied by a caster (who is the same as the sleeping figure referenced in the initial post) and a creature in a cage, and is farther from the road.

Important question: is it the open wagon or the covered wagon that has a sleeping figure / cage in it? Is this the same wagon the BC detected a caster in?

While under normal circumstances, I'd expect the horses to not be hitched, there's a certain madcap cinematography to rushing in under cover of euphoric fog, trashing the 'pursuit' wagon with the grenades, and riding off in the other one (even with an unwilling passenger within it).

I figure it would make for an entertaining action sequence in just about any non-Sam Peckinpah Western.

If the cloud is cast I have a scroll of delay poison that someone will be able to use and they can walk on in and just take the wagon if the euphoric cloud works as it should...there are the guards to tend to though.

So GM Fail and slight retcon to placement of wagons.

It is correct the covered wagon is the northern most one with the Chest in it.

The southern most is uncovered with the Mage-type and Caged animal.

I have moved the tokens to the correct spots and also added a treasure chest icon.

Sounds like a solid plan folks. I will try to make a post today if possible to move forward. I do not have my computer today which presents a problem when trying to GM by Mobile device amd Swype. Especially since the Wayfinder app isn't working anymore.

Quick note: I had a house fire on January 2nd and we were forced to move into a motel room while we searched for a new place to live. (I already told you all this). I'm signing the papers on it Saturday morning, so I will be moving over the weekend. The problem is that I won't have Internet at the house until Monday at the earliest, and more likely Tuesday.

This is rural Northeast Missouri (an oxymoron if you know this place) so there are no hotspots around. I have my phone and I will try to access the game with it a few times. I may still have the motel room into Sunday (almost certainly will) and may use the Internet here to keep in touch.

Don't hesitate to bot me. I hate that, but I also don't want to interfere with the gameplay. So again, bot me and keep it going. If all goes well, I will be able to keep up. If not, let the game keep going!

I think I'm going to either aim for heads only or fight defensively every other round as I play up to the crowd, acting like the hydra is intimidating and a far tougher foe than it is.

Not a problem. I fully understand. I've spent way too much time in the hospital with my wife and kids over the years, so I know the way it works. You know you've been to a hospital far too often when you are guiding people through it.

My wife had five knee surgeries in 2016 at the same hospital. Rough year. I hope and pray that your wife is recovering from whatever it is that ails her and that your family comes through it swiftly.
