GM Zoomba |
Tobias chucks a vial right at the tooth, which sizzles as the. Leased liquid strikes it.
Just then, the tendrils many of you noticed erupt in a sea of sprectral tentacles that grasp and grab at everything in the room. Jorins dolphin tries to flee but finds itself imeadiately grappled and crushed by the fell appendages.
grapple: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
This looks like a manifestation of Black Tenacles filling the whole room between you and the tooth.
All of you are up, also moves you back Jorin, as you were not quite perceptive enough to notice it for the surprise round. You may of course charge forwards again.
Haunt 6 damage
Flipper 5 damage
Jorin |
Whoops! Sorry, missed that it was a surprise round. Cool spell icon.
Party, Any of you have anything to help keep me from getting grappled?
GM, Since we are underwater, can I apply alchemical grease to myself and not have it just instantly gone?
Liam Mardon |
I can cast it if it comes down to it.
"The power of Razmir compels you!" Liam states as he pulls out a glass vial. When he opens it, a churning mist flies out towards the haunt.
Haunt Siphon!: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4) = 14
This is all positive energy damage
GM Zoomba |
The power of Razmir certainly seems to compel at least something inside the room, as the haunting tentacles roil in response to the siphon's mist. When the flash clears however, you see the tentacles still in place with the celestial dolphin still being crushed.
All butLiam are up
Jorin: I'd say specially quasi-magic Alchemical Grease could work very briefly underwater. No more than a minute or two, but for this encounter that should be enough. (Assuming things don't go horribly wrong of course :)
Tobias Marlow |
Marlow studies the haunt manifested to see if it has any weaknesses or unusual traits that he could communicate through.

While the scroll is retrieved and used, Jorin smears himself with grease in case it also might be helpful. He then prepares to swim for the fang.
Will go for it next round.
GM Zoomba |
Harsk watches the haunt siphon seem to damage the tentacles, just as the holy water did, but the haunt still seems strong.
Tobias takes stock of the situation, and senses that tytus is correct: other than blasting it with the power of positivity, the fang will need to be removed to stop the dragon's lingering infection.
While the rest of you consider you options, the dolphin continues to get squeezed
grapple: 1d20 + 18 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 18 + 5 = 34 for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Haunt 20 damage
Flipper 11 damage
So if you are pursuing using Harsk's scroll on Jorin (if you're still okay with that Harsk) I'm fine with you having done that this past round. Thanks to the noble porpoise's sacrifice, all of you are currently not directly in the haunt. I will say however, hat while thrown attacks are fine, getting close enough to touch it with positive enegy (like Cure spells) would risk you being grappled, as you'd need to approach the haunts core to affect it.

Jorin swims straight for the fang and attempts to rip it from the wall with brute force.
strength check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
I can easily swim there in a single move action and a standard action to try and wrench the fang free. Just guessing that a strength check will do. If something else is more appropriate, let me know.
Alektara Bluemoon |
"What if we tie a rope around you Jorin in case you get grappled or attacked we could pull you back to safety...?" Alektara offers as a suggestion seeing as she has no magik to counter the haunt.
GM Zoomba |
Swimming up to the tooth, Jorin gives it a mighty tug. Unfortunately, the fell fang remains wedged tight into the coral.
Luckily, Harsk's magic seems to protect the half-orc. Even as the tentacles finally crush his dolphin until it *pops*, they can gain no grip on Jorin.
So, you have a person in the room that can't be grappled, has a respectable strength, and no one else is jumping to run in. I am fine 'calling it' and just having Jorin roll it out for Strength checks.

Harsk Hammerfist dwarf |
I'll jump in to aid the STR checks? Assuming I'm not grappled But I can understand calling it. It's just a matter of die rolling until Jorin gets a 20
GM Zoomba |
Jorin gives a second mighty yank, which causes the gang to twitch slightly but still is wedged in tight. The Third pull however, tugs the tooth free of the shell.
Imeadiately, the hole formerly occupied by the tooth sizzles with green Ochoa before a flash of white light accompanies the shell rapidly repairing itself to fill the gap. The spectral tentacles wither and fade.
Holding the fang, Jorin notices that it is still faintly dripping acidic venom, and fits in his hand like an oddly shaped club. a +1 menacing corrosive greatclub to be precise

Nodding to Tytus in agreement. "It would be a good idea, although there seems to be some hint at a swarm of foes maybe. Best be ready for that. I have some flasks that I would normally use, but they will be less useful here underwater."
Marlow uses extracts of shield and longarm then uses his wand again.

Jorin lingers just a moment to search the rest of the room, but Tytus has no time to wait! The dwarf hurries over to the neighboring door and slides it open.
In front of him stands a large mound of coral in the center of the room, rising up from a burial slab. On top of the slab and coral rests a single mummified locathath corpse, mostly wrapped in seaweed. Swimming all around the body however, are thousands of tiny eels moving in circles.
With the entryway opened and the dwarf entering, all of the small eels whirl as one toward Tytus. Just as quickly, they begin agitatedly swarming around one another, concentrating into two masses that seem to rapidly be morphing into humanoid shapes.
But then, all of you feel flush with the same warmth that engulfed you at the restored altar. At the same time, the shell next to Jorin glows right where the fang was removed from it. A rush of clear water sweeps from the outer chambers of the shell and into the room - water that looks as pure as the holy water you restored in the font. The new water flows into the eels, who with a shriek disperse and flee.
A quiet voice echoes in your heads.
{in Aquan} Thank you. Riam's grave is clean again. Praise Lyssianassa. I can finally rest...
With your previous actions and several back-end factors, Cintra Eelmaster's spirit is at peace once more without needing a fight!

"Oh, boy..." Alektara mutters to the others..."These look like galvos - nasty creatures made of eel swarms." she shakes ehr head..."Harsk... you go first... try that empathy thing you woodland types can do..."
Tobias Marlow |
Looking over to Aquel and bowing slightly. "Does this mean the temple is cleansed?" Marlow asks. "We have heard tales of Lysianassa's Last Breath. Can you tell us of this?"
GM Zoomba |
Looking over to Aquel and bowing slightly. "Does this mean the temple is cleansed?" Marlow asks. "We have heard tales of Lysianassa's Last Breath. Can you tell us of this?"
The eels did flee. Had your other actions gone differently, they would have been a pair of galvos.
Aquel returns the halfling's bow.
Truly you are indeed mortals of noble purpose. You have not only cleansed the lingering corruption in Riam's shell, but I see your group is one that shows great respect for this temple, and you have restored some of its former glory and beauty. Your valor is clear: I freely give to you the treasures entrusted to me.
The deva lifts her morningstar and crashes it against the pillar it has been resting on. With two cracks the whole pillar shatters, revealing a gleaming decanter filled with a brightly glowing blue liquid and a sealed chest. Aquel opens the chest and turns it to you, lifting the decanter as she continues.
This container holds Lysianassa's last Breath. It is the artifact you seek. And this, she pulls a fist-sized translucent egg from the chest, is the last living offspring of Riam, Lysianassa's great disciple. It currently lies dormant awaiting the Lord's return; I place it in your care and trust in your judgement in handling it.
Also within the chest are four golden seashells, each engraved with tight lines of scripture.
Tobias Marlow |
"Thank you again noble Aquel." Says Marlow as he bows yet again in thanks. He moves to read the scriptures trying not to disturb them if possible.

Opening the other rooms quickly, Jorin searches around them. Each additional chamber holds a half-dozen more bodies, wrapped in holy seaweed. There are no other material possessions within. Meanwhile in the outer chamber, examining the engraved shells shows that the contain a multitude of prayers for and legends of the lost Elemental Lord Lysianassa - these are valuable holy relics.
Aquel smiles as asks if there is more you can do (though frowns for just an instant as the mention of Razmir). No mortal. My task on this plane is now complete. I must return to Arcadia to receive my new--
A pained expression comes over the deva's face. It touches its hand to the nautilus' shell and closes its eyes in concentration.
After a moment, Aquel speaks: You are betrayed. Razketha, your brine dragon companion, has killed the maridar who brought you here. Now Zemdar is dead, she has rallied the remains of the sahaugin of this shell under her rule. She waits to ambush you in the coral gardens outside. There are hostages. The deva opens her eyes and looks up. I would advise prepare yourselves for combat. Based on your forms, it appears some are already so. If this would aid, take it as well. The angel holds out its Morningstar to you. a +2 shocking burst morningstar

If no one steps forward to accept the angelic morningstar from the angel Alektara will bow her head and hold out her hands for the weapon.
Tobias Marlow |
Tobias ponders now on the dragon as foe. Trying to remember any weaknesses or especially powerful attacks to warn his companions about. He does recall that apparently their foe had deep scars also.
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (15) + (1) + 10 = 26
GM Zoomba |
Tobias recalls that brine dragons, like most dragons, are powerful combatants, able to bring both their physical might and spell casting prowess to bear on their foes. Brine dragons are acid-affinitied: immune to the element and able to shoot out a line of the substance. Based on Razketha's size large, she's likely an adult and would have DR/magic and spell resistance.

Lady Aquel, can you tell us how many Sahaugin are with the dragon?
GM, will Hydraulic Push work normally underwater?
I will cast extended shield just before we go out of the shell.
Tytus Umbraeyes |
Tytus will also drink a shield extract and, coupled with an extract of alchemical allocation a potion of cat´s grace just before leaving.
"Can anyone ward us against the acid?"
GM Zoomba |
Yes to Hydraulic Push working.
Two. No, one sahaugin. The other is leaving right now. Aquel replies as it concentrates against the shell once more. But there are several sharks as well around the hostages - a Marid and two maridar. I would make haste: the fish appear hungry
Have enough warning to buff, but time is of the essence! When ready, place yourselves by the door the the first chamber (from the other side this time); I'll likely post next mid-late afternoon EST

Lady Aquel, can you tell us how many Sahaugin are with the dragon?
GM, do you mean they are in the first chamber that is open to the ocean or are they actually outside the shell?
Liam, I'm intending to go for the dragon. So I would like the acid protection if you have enough.
I will summon another dolphin with my wand just before opening the door. It might distract the sharks for a few moments.
If I can't get to the dragon right away, I will try to dazzle the eyes of a few if possible. glitterdust
I don't suppose any of you have magic left to speed our actions?
Tobias Marlow |
"Thanks Liam, protection will be a great aid in reaching our foe. Do we think that there is any chance of reason here? I seems that force will be the only thing that works, but remember the dragon was our source of water breathing. Without that unless we have a way of returning faster than arrival or long term breathing we will drown no matter if we win or not." Marlow worries at the problem verbally.
GM Zoomba |
They and the hostages are in the first room you entered and searched, now covered by grey blocks. Currently Razketha, one sahaugin, and 4 sharks that Aquel can sense.
Liam Mardon |
"Of course I do." So 4 Protection from Energy spells and 1 Haste right before we fight them. And I will also cast Stoneskin for Tytus, Jorin, and Alektara.
