After a while you start to look at the documents in more detail.
The papers chronicle the personal exploits of Selmius Foster, a famous Pathfinder whose name some of you recognize from their training as Pathfinder agents.
Most of Foster’s more infamous adventures appear here in varying amounts of detail, but it is evident there is another investigation he had been pursuing before he died: the lost records of a Society agent named Eylysia.
You find two very interesting documents, which detail Selmius’s thoughts on the matter, and an appended note from Adolphus.
See Handout #1 and #2 in the slides.
Together, these reference three major leads Foster had found. But it seems as if they never had time to investigate properly as the thoroughly compiled notes just stop at some point.
Reggie Bottleberry

Reggie hears the crack of glass and the sizzle of acid in the other room then, a few moment's later, the chaos of combat goes still and quiet.
"Are they gone?" he calls out, sounding more like a nervous child than a noble knight.
When he is relatively sure it is safe, he manages to coax Rowdy back into the room.
"Can you use this on us, Nox?" he asks, waiting for his turn to come around and handing her his wand of Cure Light Wounds.
I'll go ahead and roll if no one minds.
CLW wand on Reggie: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW wand on Rowdy: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
And again...stupid wand.
CLW wand on Reggie: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW wand on Rowdy: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
"Proof that even the finest organizations can have those with less than noble aims in mind. I wonder if Eylysia was hoarding the knowledge for herself," Reggie says, after reading the notes.
"Where to first? Should we just go in order and start with the tomb?"
Kala, daughter of Krokum

Grimacing, Kala casts a healing spell upon herself.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
"I can cast one more healing spell, then I'm out for the day. Anyone else need it?" Kala is oddly surly and reluctant as she offers.
Once healing is finished, she kneels down beside Stinky to scratch roughly him behind the ears. "Hey, read what you find out loud, guys. No sense in taking extra time having each person read each one themselves." I really need to learn how to read sometime. Seems like a useful skill down here.
Stinky the Wolverine
|
It was so frustrating to have prey that he couldn't catch! Stinky is in a violent, foul mood as the last of the bats dissipate into the caverns. He shifts his weight from paw to paw, growling, hissing, and snarling to vent his anger. After a short time, Kala kneels down beside him and begins to roughly love on him. He resists at first, but eventually the anger subsides. Leaning into her, playfully grabbing her arm in his teeth, and knocking her to the ground, Stinky is finally able to put the bats' encounter out of his mind.

"Good thing you had that acid," Nox says, stubbing out her torch in case she needs it later.
Reggie Bottleberry
|
"Keep it and use it on whoever needs it," Reggie says after Nox taps him and Rowdy a couple of times to heal them up.
"Yes, it's a good thing someone had acid. I am definitely buying some the first chance we get," Reggie throws in.
Zoltan flamebeard
|
Zoltan turns to Noxs and smiles."Thank you Nox that feels great." Zoltan then tunrns to the group."I thinks Reggie is right we should start at the tomb."
Kala, daughter of Krokum
|
Did anyone read any of what the found out loud? I need to know what Kala knows so I can role play her properly. Thanks!
Velthas Hindrath
|
Huffing and puffing despite being unable to do much of anything against the bat swarm Velthas looks around at his companions "Well fought friends! Velthas was not prepared for such a threat but he will be next time! Now what have we found?"
Hurrah website up and maybe staying long enough that I can post?!
Kala, daughter of Krokum
|
As she listens to Nox read the information aloud, Kala idly scratches Stinky's belly and glances around the room. "Wonder what's down these passages? Maybe there's more information. Which do you guys want to explore first?" I feel so useless right now.
Zoltan flamebeard
|
"Let's take the first one on the right"Zoltan points to the passage in the top corner of the room with he's torch.

You decide to leave the cellar and the secret room and return to the upper level.
The kitchen personnel is a little astounded to see you again, especially with some of you having blood stains on their clothes. And although Heryn Gale is quite busy when you return she notices that you obviously were in a fight.
"Oh my god, what happened to you?!" she asks with great concern and wants to run down to see what is going on.
When you explain to her that you found the secret door she obviously is very surprised about what you found.
You can decide if you tell her about the documents or not.
Heryn then says "That is truly unbelievable and I agree with you. But to be honest such a matter has to be discussed with a Venture-Captain to align on the next step. I do not know what you want to do now but good luck to you! And please come back and inform us what to do with the room ... I ... I am still in shock ... unbelievable."
Velthas Hindrath
|
Addressing Heryn Velthas says warmly "Velthas and his friends are fine, though it shames Velthas to admit that it was not he who won the day. A great beauty such as you should not concern itself with Velthas' wounds however, Velthas strength is mighty when standing beside friends such as these!" Velthas leans over and claps Zoltan on the back before turning to address his friends "Velthas thinks it is time to visit the good master, yes?"
Nox Pembrook
|
As they make they're way back to the surface, Nox slips the notes they found into her satchel. She also makes sure to grab a bottle of wine from the cellars. Although no expert on wine, she hopes it will do.
Stinky the Wolverine

Belly adequately rubbed and scratched, Stinky wanders off in search of new smells. There's something in the corner that is intriguingly pungent.
Kala, daughter of Krokum

Spotting Stinky heading off on a mission, Kala recognizes his behavior in an instant. She calls out, "Stinky, heel! Don't you roll in that, whatever it is!"
Wolverine in tow, Kala strides along with the rest of the group.
| GM Nowruz |
The group decides to leave the Wounded Wisp and return to the Venture-Captain and you travel back to the meeting point that you received earlier ... and it is still raining.
You are now just steps away from Dreng who looks at you with a smile at first and with some concern when he sees the marks of battle on your clothing.
"You are back. I hope you have my bottle ... and can explain the shape that you are in." he says with a raised eyebrow.
Zoltan flamebeard
|
Zoltan hands the captain the letters."We found those letters in a secret room in the wine cellar with a lot of blood sucking bat."
| GM Nowruz |
Dreng is suspicious but opens an umbrella and looks through the documents … his eyes open wide after he reads through the first pages. He asks you tell him everything and wants to know all the details.
After a while he stands up with the umbrella.
"I ... I cannot believe that I have been in this wine cellar so many times and have never noticed this secret door! You Pathfinders might have found something that gives us a taste of our roots." he says with genuine surprise in his voice.
"You had the luck of finding a long-lost trove of documents and by following my directions you will potentially earn some renown in Absolom. This is an important find and you will be the ones to investigate some potentially far-reaching discovery related to Eylysia because you were the ones to stumble upon it." he says with a sly smile.
Then he looks at the documents in more detail.
"The other documents you found that are not related to Eylysia will need to stay with me so that I can begin assigning other agents to decrypt and collate the contents for proper study and comparison to exploits published in the Pathfinder Chronicles."
Reggie Bottleberry
|
”Bats. Too…many…bats…” is the only response Reggie gives regarding why they look like they look.
Though he tries not to, he looks obviously pleased at the praise they get for finding this secret.
He turns to his companions as Dreng heavily suggests they investigate.
"Where to first? The Mausoleum?" he asks them.
Kala, daughter of Krokum
|
"Might as well." Kala shrugs non-noncommittally as her eyes scan the faces of her companions to take a read of their reactions.
| GM Nowruz |
MAUSOLEUM
You depart to check the lead involving Arkath. Details left by Selmius Foster indicate the location of Arkath’s burial site: a plot of land in Eastgate operated by the faith of Asmodeus.
A fence surrounds the necropolis grounds, and although members of the faith of Asmodeus and city guards routinely patrol the property, you know that it is still legal to enter the grounds to respect the departed. You can see citiy guards patrolling the area.
Arkath’s crypt is the northernmost structure on the map that you found in Selmius documents.
While the gates into the necropolis are left open to those paying their respects, the doors of all the mausoleums are sealed with sturdy stone slabs.
You are in front of the gates to the necropolis when you suddenly see a man in robes and a large pendant with the holy symbol of Asmodeus approaching. The man is holding up his hands and it is visible that he has lost several fingers.
This seems to be a mid-ranking cleric of Asmodeus and based on your knowledge he has the responsibility to watch over the tombs of the honored remains of friends of the church. You also know that especially for clerics of Asmodeus guarding the sanctity of the tombs is the cleric’s primary responsibility, but each cleric has different motivations and sometimes evil goals.
You know this guy! Durward is his name you believe. A former street thug, Durward lost several fingers and toes — and almost his life — before finding refuge among Absalom’s Asmodean priests. He enjoys his position of privilege and the powers granted to him by his god.
But you also know that Durward is ruthless in persecuting those who do not follow the rules and believes the strong should always be in a position of power.
The man approaching shouts out loud "Who goes there?!"
Please place your icon on the map.
Reggie Bottleberry

Reggie is glad to be doing something, it is a good way to battle the chill of the rain. Of course, a necropolis is not the most delightful place to visit. Why didn't adventures ever take place in cafes or blanket and pipe factories?
He sits Rowdy quietly, watching the approaching man without comment, since he doesn't really know anything about him, or the correct way to deal with him.
He did finger the hilt of his sword, though. Given his history with Chelaxians and Asmodeans, he's no more pleased to see that particular man than to be in the Necropolis.

I'm using my study target on Durward.
Velthas Hindrath

Velthas steps forward, sweeping into a deep bow before rising to speak "Velthas Hindrath makes warmest welcomes and greeting to you Sir Dunward. Of what Service can Velthas be to you or your patron?"
As Velthas speaks effusively he studies Dunward's reaction, trying to gauge his intent and warm the incensed priest before continuing.

The man smiles at Velthas but when he mispronounces his name you see his eyebrows moving in anger.
"Be happy that you are still standing here and have not been blown to bits by Asmodeus' might you follies!"
He looks down to you and steps uncomfortably close to Velthas.
"Do you want me to express my obviously superior thoughts or are you pissing your pants and leaving!"
Diplomacy aid please?
Hanzo Yamizaki

Hanzo won't be of use in diplomacy, nor would he be inclined for such with this type of person. :)
He switches onto his other leg, accidentally brushing with his bag arm against Reggie, who befalls a little luck thereafter.
Guidance on Reggie.

Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Kala steps up beside Velthas quickly. "Sorry about that. He's not from around here, and a bit hard of hearing. He must not've heard your name right earlier. Didn't mean to offend you. How 'bout we start over. I'm Kala, daughter of Krokum." She offers a quick bow of her head in lieu of holding out her hand, just in case he wouldn't return the gesture.

Reggie flashes a smile, leaning forward over the pixel of his saddle and resting his forearm on it.
"And I am Reginald Bottleberry. No insult was intended. We're just here to view this important, historic site," he says.

Durward looks at Reggie and Kala.
"Ha, ha, ha! So you are helping your friend here!?!"
The man looks at all of you and his intonation changes to the better.
"This plot of land in Eastgate is dedicated to the faith of Asmodeus and used as the resting ground for those that have served the dark prince, the most powerful of the nine archdevils that inhabit Hell."
He specifically looks at Hanzo and continues "If you do not respect and obey me here then you are welcome to start a fight ..." and his view wanders to the east where you see two city guards routinely patrolling the area around the property.

Hanzo is unimpressed. Moreover, his eyes narrow in anger, though his stance is passive. He does not reach for any weapon.

Nox wasn't interested in a fight, and certainly not one that could end with her and her colleagues being arrested. With a quick twirl of her wrist, she throws out a net to entangle the cleric. The quicker he's disabled, the quicker they can move on.
net: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 4 = 19 (vs touch AC, -4 for in melee) it does no damage but entangles him
An entangled creature can escape with a DC 20 Escape Artist check (a full-round action). The net has 5 hit points and can be burst with a DC 25 Strength check (also a full-round action). A net is useful only against creatures within one size category of you.

Round 0:
Kala groans, "Ugh, guys, this would've been so much easier if we could've talked through this. Can we please stop this and cool down?"
She moves around to the other side of Durward, planning to surround him. It would be really stupid to let him run away now.
Round 1:
Well, looks like diplomacy is out the window. Ugh. This is going to be harder than it had to be. Sighing, Kala pulls out her shield and finishes moving into position (5 foot step), calling out, "Stinky, flank!"

At Kala's command, Stinky snaps to attention and scampers up to the man behind whom Kala is standing. I'm here. Now what?
