"It would seem that the right fork will be safest and fastest. No need to over think it. Paperwork's in order an all so any legal stuff down the river shouldn't be an issue and I'd rather see any illegal trouble then fighten in that snarl"
Cepsihir
|
"This one is hardly a sailor, though encountering another vessel on the overgrown path might prove troublesome, even if it were friendly; there is no guarantee this path widens, and having to potentially double-back would not serve our captive friends well."
Cepsihir chooses the clear path to the right.
Cepsihir
|
"This one enjoys discovery, though not while those who we are charged with rescuing lie in peril. Perhaps our generous Captain will sail the course less traveled when we return."
Krystiana
|
Krystiana eyes the captain, "If there's something nagging you, please tell us. I've found those nagging feelings in my guts are usually divine nudges. Otherwise, the clear fork would seem safer." She looks down at her armor, "When it comes to swimming, I'm better at imitating a rock than a duck."
| GM Lamplighter |
The Captain nods slowly, and issues the necessary orders to steer through the clear channel on the port side of the island. The crew breath a collective sigh of relief as they leap into action.
The island itself is not very large, only about a hundred feet long and barely 20 feet wide. As you sail past it, the think undergrowth looms like a wall along the shoreline.
As you approach the point where the two channels reconnect, there is an explosion of spray off the port bow. A creature with a long, sinuous neck breaks launches out of the water jaws first, its reddish scales glistening in the sunlight. It utters a cry like that of a hawk only a hundredfold louder, and unfolds a pair of leathery wings as it makes the transition from aquatic to aerial creature. It is clear even to the inexperienced that this is some sort of dragon.

Scorpions: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Player initiative order is Diana, Pavanna, Ossok, Krystiana, Cepsihir, Scorpions.

Cepsihir

Cepsihir's eyes widen at the sight of the creature.
What have we here?
Knowledge: Arcane: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Cepsihir will approach the creature, drawing his scimitar and imbuing it with power from his arcane pool as he closes.
If Cepsihir is within 20' of the creature, he will attack.
[ dice=Scimitar Attack, 18-20/x2]d20 + 6 + 1[/dice]

If the creature is further than 20', Cepsihir will take a defensive stance.

Round 1
The dragon flaps its wings to gain some altitude, its serpent-like neck scanning the length of the ship. Its gaze settles on Scorpions, and it spews a ball of nasty mucous from its open mouth towards him. The dragon loogie strikes the deck in front of him, spreading thick greenish mucous in a 5-foot radius. It splashes Scorpions and the crewman standing behind him.Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 acid damage Reflex save for half-Scorpions: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24Reflex save for half-Crewman: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Scorpions takes 2 points of damage as the caustic goo burns him from a dozen small splashes. The crewman behind him takes the full brunt of the acid, and is also coated in the substance which holds him fast while it continues to burn him. His screams echo eerily from the nearby island.
From the other side of the ship, another burst of spray heralds the arrival of a second creature, this one slightly larger with scales the colour of dark wine. It flies into the air as well, and spews mucous at the cluster of figures on the starboard side of the ship. Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 7) = 8 reflex save for half damage - Diana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18reflex save for half damage - Crewman: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6reflex save for half damage - Crewman: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 Diana manages to evade the worst of the acidic spittle and remain free, but the two crewmen forward of her are both hit and trapped in a sticky acid goo that burns the flesh from their bones. They scream and frantically try to free themselves from the entangling mess.
Declarations for Round 1, please!
Krystiana
|
Krystiana mutters a curse in Celestial.
Celestial doesn't really have any good curses.
She picks the larger dragon and asks for Arshea to guide the bolt of her crossbow to be straight and true before loosing her volley.
Smite Evil! I'll chance that the giant, scaly, chromatic things that spit acid and ambush boats on the river.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
the virtual dice hate me.
Diana Seraphina
|
Diana draws her darkwood longbow and targets the beast that spit at her, calling upon the might of Old Dead-eye to aid her. "हंटर, अजगर की आंखों में माफी के लिए देखो. तुम मेरे में कोई नहीं मिलेगा!"
Smite evil on dragon that hit me.
She lets loose two arrows in quick succession at the dragon.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 3 = 191d8 + 2 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 3 + 3 = 10
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 3 = 271d8 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 3 = 6
Ac is now 22 vs that dragon, also all allies within 10' of me now gain the benefits of Precise Shot, assuming I hit the dragon.

Diana Seraphina wrote:"हंटर, अजगर की आंखों में माफी के लिए देखो. तुम मेरे में कोई नहीं मिलेगा!"So, Celestial is written in Hindi?
I thought it seemed fitting and exotic enough. Saw someone else do I before and I liked the look too :)
Ossok the Scarred One
|
Sorry for not posting yesterday. I got swamped with work, and I'm coming down with something.
"River drake! Not good! You get glued to boat if not careful!"
Ossok will cast Burning Hands on Drake #1 (DC 15 Reflex for half.)
Burning Hands: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
| GM Lamplighter |
Round 1 - complete
The two river drakes erupt out of the water and spew caustic mucous at various people (see detailed post above).
Diana fires two arrows at the drake on the starboard side, and both strike home and sink into its torso almost to the fletching. The evil beast recoils in pain at the damaging attack.
Pavanna prays to the Lord of Law and receives his blessing.
Ossok unleashes a blast of fire at the port-side drake. Reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 The fire singes the beast's wings a little.
Krystiana fires her crossbow to starboard, but the bolt flees wide and disappears into a small stand of trees on the eastern shore of the river.
Cepsihir draws his scimitar and adopts a defensive pose, eying the nearest drake closely.
Scorpions pulls a vial from his belt, uncorks it, and pours it down his gullet.
(OOC: Scorpions, I don't see a list of prepared extracts on your character sheet, can you please update this so I know what you have prepared for today?)
The crew do not need a second command. Those unencumbered dive towards the hatches farthest from danger, while the Captani remains at the wheel. The three crew who are trapped in mucous, however, continue to burn as they try to free themselves.
Crew 1 damage:: 1d4 ⇒ 2Crew 1 Reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Crew 2 damage:: 1d4 ⇒ 1Crew 1 Reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Crew 3 damage:: 1d4 ⇒ 2Crew 1 Reflex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Crewmen 1 and 3 manage to pull themselves free of the acid and scrape the rest off of their skin and clothing. Crewman 2 remains trapped. Crewmen 2 and 3 and almost completely denuded of flesh over a large percentage of their body.
End of Round 1
Round 2 - partial
(Since the drakes both go first, I'll run their actions so you can react to them.)
Drake #1 flies forward with a sudden burst of speed which seems impossible for such a large creature. It lands on the deck at Ossok's feet and barrels into him, jaws first. Bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20Damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 4) + 5 = 13 The drake's tail whips over its head, almost like a wyvern, but Ossok evades the blow. Tail slap: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Cepsihir sees a target and leaps into action. He runs across the forecastle deck and leaps down to the main deck, attracting the attention of the drake menacing Ossok. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Scimitar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23His scimitar flashes once, but misses the drake.
Drake #2 hisses at Diana and dives towards the archer. Bite attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24Damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2) + 5 = 10 Tail slap: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 It sinks its teeth into her side, still airborne, and roars in exultation at its revenge.
EDIT: Moved Cepsihir to proper spot for his readied action.
Your turns - now what?
Cepsihir
|
"OSSOK! Help this one corner this beast!"
Cepsihir will attempt to position himself to flank the Drake if possible, taking advantage of his ninja training.
[ dice=Scimitar Attack, 18-20/x2]d20 + 6[/dice] +1 for Arcane Pool, +2 if Flanking
[ dice=Magic/Piercing Damage]d4 + 4[/dice] +1 for Arcane Pool, +1d6 if Sneak Attack
Ossok the Scarred One
|
Round 2
Hearing the call of Cepsihir to him, Ossok nods towards the shadowy one, drawing his greataxe, and steps into a position to provide a flank with Cepsihir. He swings the mighty axe into the drake!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 (+2 if flanking)
Damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Pavanna al-Azario
|
Pavanna waits until Cepsihir and Ossok have attacked Drake #1 and then calls down the power of Asmodeus, point to Drake #2 and commanding: "Kill it!"
Murderous command: DC 16 Will neg.
Diana Seraphina
|
Diana cries out in pain as the teeth tear at her flesh. She stumbles backwards placing a hand across the symbol on her breastplate. A flash of golden light runs over her and the wounds begin to knit themselves together. She give the beast a grin as she draws and fires at it again.
Lay on Hands: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 161d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 121d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Krystiana
|
With her sight lines blocked by her crew mates, Krystiana drops her crossbow and jumps across the deck. As she moves, she pulls her flail from its place on her hip and strikes at the drake attacking Diana.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage + initial Smite Evil hit.. if I hit: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Siiiiiigh, I can't roll to save my life.
Scorpions
|
I'll be glad to put up an extract list tomorrow. Out working in the cold tonight so my fingers are cold. I mixed up my alchemist with my high level one in the other pbp game so I did not pull out anything because I don't have second level extracts lol. Just treat me as delayed that round I guess.
Scorpions will draw an extract of shield, drink it, and take a 5 foot step towards closest enemy.
| GM Lamplighter |
Round 2 - complete
NOTE: a bunch of the rolls above seem to have "re-rolled" since I posted them... not sure if it's due to me previewing another post right now, or a bug. I'm keeping the rolls that occurred originally, and I've included the stats here for convenience.
Drake #1 bites Ossok for 8 points, putting him at 6hp (see details above)
Cepsihir leaps onto the main deck to attack the drake, but missed (see details above)
Drake #2 bites Diana for 11 damage, putting her at 12hp.
Diana steps back and heals some of her wounds (up to 15hp), and then volleys another pair of arrows at the drake in front of her. Both bounce off of the creature's scaly hide.
Pavanna pauses momentarily.
Ossok draws his greataxe, but can't really get past the lifeboat to flank the drake. His blow just hits, drawing a red arc along the drake's side (for 4 damage). He grunts with the effort of the swing, as his wounds take their toll.
Pavanna chooses her moment to ensorcel the second drake. Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10. The creature seems confused for a moment as the spell takes effect.
Krystiana moves forward to attack the second drake with her flail, but can't seem to find her footing as the boat rolls slightly on the waves.
Scorpions pulls out an extract and drinks it, after refreshing himself with a slug of win last round. ;)
GM rolls: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 81d4 ⇒ 4
The remaining crew dive for the hatches, while the wounded crawl as best they are able. The last man still entangled finally stops struggling, his flesh melted away to the bone in many places.
End of Round 2
Round 3 (partial)
Drake #1 turn s to face its new foe, lashing at Cepsihir with its jaws and tail. Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Tail: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19Tail slap damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 The tail hits, whipping across Cepsihir's back for 4 damage.
Cepsihir is unable to find a flanking position, but is cognoscent of Ossok's poor health, so he renews his attack from his current position. Scimitar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 He slashes the beast for another 7 damage.
The second drake leaps into the air and launches itself over the ship and off the port side. It wings around in a wide arc and bears down on the first drake. It screams in, jaws wide. Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21Bite damage: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7 The drake sinks its teeth into its mate, who roars in pain and surprise.
...and now it's your turn. Cepsihir, you can keep giving me orders now, but they will occur between the two drakes now. A quick glance around tells you that Ossok is badly wounded, Diana is wounded, Cepsihir and Scorpions are both slightly wounded. Both drake are wounded but still full of fight.
Diana Seraphina
|
Diana touches herself again and feel the surge of power run through her. Taking a second to steady her aim she lets fly another two arrows at the Drake.
Lay on Hands: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 3 = 91d8 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 3 = 7
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 3 = 151d8 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 3 = 8
Pavanna al-Azario
|
Pavanna moves forward a few feet, placing her hand over the choker at her neck and yells "The power of Asmodeus compels you! Begone!" There is a crack of thunder and frigid energy rolls across the ship!
Channel negative energy: 2d6 DC 19 Will for half. If I'm reading the map right Scoripon is just out of range of I move up to the guy adjacent to the boxes (10' move for me). I should be able to selectively channel out that guy and 4 PCs hitting the drakes.
Cepsihir
|
Cepsihir's scimitar attack would have done 1 additional damage due to magus arcana being active, which grants +1 to both attack (factored in) and damage (not factored in).
Cepsihir would like to make a spellcraft check to identify what Pavanna cast upon Red Dragon #2 with a +8 bonus.
"Ossok, tend to yourself if you can; this one and Krystiana will hold their attention."
Cepsihir will five-foot step, if possible, to flank Red Dragon #1 with Krystiana's help, and attack Red Dragon #1 as previously performed.
[ dice=Scimitar Attack, 18-20/x2]d20 + 6[/dice] +1 for Arcane Pool, +2 if Flanking
[ dice=Magic/Piercing Damage]d4 + 4[/dice] +1 for Arcane Pool, +1d6 if Sneak Attack
Five-foot step, if possible, to shift into flanking position, and attack using Scimitar imbued with magic from Arcane Pool.

Round 3 - complete
Drake #1 turns to face its new foe, lashing at Cepsihir with its jaws and tail. Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Tail: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19Tail slap damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 The tail hits, whipping across Cepsihir's back for 4 damage. (copied from above)
Cepsihir is unable to find a flanking position, but is cognoscent of Ossok's poor health, so he renews his attack from his current position. Scimitar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 He slashes the beast for another 8 damage. (Copied from above, with damage corrected)
(copied from above)
Diana touches herself again and feel the surge of power run through her. (up to 18hp) Taking a second to steady her aim she lets fly another two arrows at the Drake, which both bounce off the creature's scales.
Ossok, feeling badly wounded, produces a wand from his belt and hits himself with it, grunting loudly as he does. (up to 13hp).
Pavanna moves forward a few feet, placing her hand over the choker at her neck and yells "The power of Asmodeus compels you! Begone!" There is a crack of thunder and frigid energy rolls across the ship! Through shear force of will, Pavanna restrains the energy's forward progress to avoid absorbing Cepsihir, Ossok, Diana, and Krystiana, as well as the crewman nearest her. Will save - Drake 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24Will save - Drake 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17Will save - Captain: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6Will save - Crewman 5: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 The second drake manages to withstand the onslaught better, but the first one takes the full effect. Unfortunately, so do the Captain and first mate manning the wheel, and the dying crewman still entangled in the caustic drake spittle on the starboard rail...damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 (NOTE: I moved you slightly differently to keep Scorpions out of range, which did not affect whether you hit the crew or not.)
Krystiana swings her flail again, but can't seem to find her target.
Scorpions sees the sphere of dark energy rolling towards him, but it stops mere inches from his face. He draws his greatsword and swings at the drake on the deck below him. (+1 bonus for higher ground)Greatsword: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26Greatsword damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10The heavy blade slashes into the drake's long neck, which fountains blood across the deck. The drake spasms once and then collapses.
End of round 3
Start of Round 4 (partial)
Cepsihir slashes at the surviving drake, Scimitar Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 1 = 18 Damage: 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9 opening a deep wound in its side. The creature screeches in pain, and stops flying to plunge directly into the water below. (Mechanics: full withdrawal)
The sound of battle fades from the deck of Abacus, replaced by the low moaning sound of the wounded and dying.
Pavanna al-Azario
|
Pavanna rushes to the captain and then the first mate, touching them with her wand of infernal healing.
"How long can that beast hold it's breath?" Pavanna wonders aloud to anyone.
Healing isn't her strong suit, and I don't actually have a wand of CLW. If anyone has one and wants me to use it on them etc I'm happy to do that. Or if you want/need charges from the infernal wand that's fine with me.
Cepsihir
|
"Likely long enough to place a large distance between itself and our craft. Krystiana, could you kindly keep watch while the wounded are treated?"
Cepsihir flicks the blood from his scimitar, feeling the sting of the tail-lash across his back.
This one will wait until things are calm before the wand is used...
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Checking out the immediate scene.
Krystiana
|
"Cepsihir, I will happily stand sentry. Do what you can for those in need... just try to make due without using those ugly wands." Krystiana scrambles up to a high spot on the deck to keep a better view of the surrounding area.
Diana Seraphina
|
Diana remains ready if the drake returns while the others move to help the injured, an arrow already notched.
"Of all the beasts of this world there are few I hate as much as Dragonspawn. Is everyone alright?"
She quietly thanks Erastil that there were only two, and calls once more upon his strength. Lay on Hands: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Cepsihir
|
Krystiana is a credit to the race.
Cepsihir continues to inventory the scene, realizing most everyone has tended to their wounds except him. Finding a (relatively) private area of The Abacus, Cepsihir sits with his back to a corner, closes his eyes, draws his Wand of Infernal Healing, and activates it upon himself.
Cepsihir's breathing quickens as the demon blood does its dark work.
BACK SO SOON?
...
I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK YOU DIDN'T LIKE ME ANYMORE
...
YOU'RE TRYING TO CLOSE ME OFF, AREN'T YOU?
...
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I'M VERY PATIENT
...
IT DOESN'T HURT TO KNOW ALL THE RIGHT CORDS TO PULL AS WELL
...
I'M CURIOUS WHAT MURNI WOULD THINK IF SHE KNEW YOU WERE GALLIVANTING AROUND WITH SUCH BEAUTIFUL WOMEN?
...
PERHAPS WE'LL TELL HER NEXT TIME WE SEE HER... ANYWAY, YOU KNOW WHERE TO FIND ME CEPSIHIR... YOU KNOW WHERE TO FIND ME...
Cepsihir jumps to his feet, fists clinched and perspiring in a way that even battle couldn't bring upon.
Expending a charge of Cepsihir's Wand of Infernal Healing to recover 10 HP, bringing him back to full health and his wand to 47 charges remaining.
| GM Lamplighter |
The Captain and his first mate both recoil as Pavanna approaches. "You keep back, devil!" the Captain yells, unsheathing his cutlass and holding it unsteadily in front of him. With his free hand he gropes at his belt for a metal flask, then pops it open and takes a swig. The liquor seems to give him confidence, and his colour and vigor return. He hands the flask to his mate, who can barely hold it in his shaking hands.
The hatch opens, and Passad's head appears. "Is it safe yet?" he asks of no one in particular.
"We'll be putting your passengers ashore, sir... NOW." the Captain answers, his eyes never leaving Pavanna. "Tried to kill us with her fell powers while the drakes attacked. Who knows, maybe she summoned them? She was pretty adamaant on taking the clear route that led right to them."
Cepsihir
|
This has taken a precarious turn.
Cepsihir addresses Passad, hoping he can smooth things over with the captain.
"Passad, we were set upon by a pair of river drakes. Were it not for martial prowess and divine intervention, this one fears a pair of us would be drowned and eaten. This one is assured you are aware of how Asmodeus manifests his energies; Pavanna, skilled as she may be, is only one mortal holding back the force of a god."
Krystiana
|
"This is your ship, Captain. But, please never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by inexperience. I should know, because I am woefully inexperienced in a lot of things. I don't know why she channeled her," Krystiana pauses uncomfortably, "...deity, but it was a poor choice on her part."
Pavanna al-Azario
|
Glaring at the captain Pavanna is truly offended. "You would speak this way to your betters? You foolishly believe that if I wanted to end your life that you would still be here, able to wave your meager weapon at me? After I drove off the very beasts that would have surly killed you and your crew? I warned you to get below deck. You, sir, are going to break you contract with Passad to transport us." She shakes her head. "Pathetic. You basically encouraged us to pick this path with your false choice, and..." she points to the paladins "they were in just as much agreement as you were about the choice. I didn't even offer my opinion on your false choice. Don't you dare put that on me. You, however, did accurately predict that something was indeed out there waiting Captain. Tell me, oh great oracle, how do you see this situation ending for you?" Pavanna crosses her arms, glaring at the Captain as the energy in the air crackles, and the temperature drops causing hairs to stand on end. "I will give you my word, before Lord Asmodeus, that I will not provoke harm you or your crew while you complete your contract with Lord Passad. After that, Asmodeus willing, we will never cross paths again."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
At the end of her tirade, Pavanna wheels to face Krystiana "And you? You would do well with your inexperience to learn when your mouth should be open and when it should be shut. I do not require you to offer your useless speculations on the matter."
