I forgot to apply the sickened penalty to those rolls, so -2 from each. I'm also going to break out my folio reroll (and GM star bonus) on the 1, because using it on something practical seems counter to the spirit of the scenario.

I really mean it: 1d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 + 2 = 2

Ouch! That may have been the saddest re-roll I have seen yet. I also forgot the -2 for being sickened...apparently, Reta should not have tried to eat bull slugs!

Trouble in Tamran | Sky Key Solution | Between the Lines

Since you both are sickened the -2 is a wash anyway.

Reta pulls at the sword and almost has it out of Poog's grasp before he snatches it back and nearly rips it from her hands.

Str, Reta: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Again Reta appears to have the upper hand, nearly pulling it from Poog's grasp.

Str, Reta: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

With finality, Reta steps on Poog's toes, elbows him in the gut, and sticks her bridal veil in his eye in a last ditch effort to wrangle the dogslicer from his iron grip.

Reta tugs it away, and holds in high. Goblins cheer, and Chief Gutwad nods his approval at the scene.

Trouble in Tamran | Sky Key Solution | Between the Lines

The last dare of the evening is the "Rusty Ear-biter", and the onlooking goblins, pleased with their evening full of pig rodeo, several people nearly vomiting over slugs, and wrestling for a magic sword, encourage the heroes to one final dare.

The infamous Rusty Ear-biter is a hollow coil of rusty wires, barrel hoops, bent swords, and thorny branches and vines. It's clear its name comes from the three goblin ears that were severed by the wire and still hang in various states of decomposition.

If anyone wishes to attempt, roll six Escape Artist checks. (Hopefully you won't need that many...)

Trouble in Tamran | Sky Key Solution | Between the Lines

Unless Reta comes back and says otherwise, I'm going to assume she forgot about her -8 to escape artist, and figure she instead decided not to attempt this one. But, maybe she has a trick up her sleeve ...

Chuffy crawls through the Earbiter as if he'd been greased, pausing only briefly to free his trousers, which were caught on a barb.
ouch: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 (no damage)

Poog moves through the earbiter in fits and starts, moving, and getting stuck, moving and getting stuck. The watching goblins jeer, and throw rotten fruit. (Pausing to eat a piece costs Poog a few more seconds. Unfortunatley, he puts his hand on a barb when he does so.)
ouch: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
ouch: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
ouch: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1 (-2 hp, total)

By this point in the evening, most of the goblins are as drunk as Moggy. The Chief totters atop his teeter chair, and Slorb has to ad lib the award presentation without guidance. "Uh, you did good, I guess," he says. "Here be prize."

He rather unceremoniously hands Chuffy the Chief's Personal Very Useful Robe That is Useful. (A robe of useful items that has four patches left: a ladder, a three-legged turtle, a horseshoe, and a bullhorn.)

Trouble in Tamran | Sky Key Solution | Between the Lines

The feasting goes on late into the evening, the goblin songs eventually slurring to a sameness as the drinking continues as well.

Eventually, Rempty (Moggy's mate) drags him in from the mud, so he gets a few sensible hours of sleep before his big adventure.

In the morning, the village gathers to wish the brave heroes farewell. Perhaps for the last time. The speeches are kept mercifully short (the Chief has a bit of a hangover), and Reta and Poog manage to keep from retching in front of the whole village. (Both are still sickened, until this evening.)

You're sent off with much fanfare some wretched goblin songs. The chief reminds you under no uncertain terms that last night's awards were loans not gifts. He wants his stuff back when you return ("And if you don't give it back, you're dead!")

In the hope of getting more fireworks, the chief presents the heroes the last of his stash: two Desnan candles, four paper candles, and a skyrocket. (See fireworks descriptions, below. Divvy as you like.)

Rempty licks Moggy's face, and says she wishes she could be there when he explodes, because it would be fun to watch.

The Licktoad village sings their traditional battle song as the heroes march off into the swamp.

We be Licktoads! We make raid!
Put the longshanks to the blade!
Burn them up from feet to head,
Make them hurt, then make them dead!

Cut the parents into ham,
Smush the babies into jam,
All the rest in pot get stewed,
We be Licktoads — you be food!

Goblin heroes go on quest,
Licktoads strong, we are the best,
Come back home, but not too soon—
Kill and maim, make stuff go BOOM!

Your map is clear enough that you can't get lost: just follow the river. Unfortunately, this means not going around the hazards of the swamp. Anyone who can take 10 on a Knowledge Local (DC 10) (take 10) realizes you're probably in Lotslegs' territory.

Fireworks descriptions:

Paper Candle:
This finger-sized explosive detonates noisily 1 round after lighting. Anyone in the same square as a paper candle when it explodes must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or be dazzled for 1d4 rounds. (GM ruling: the problem is lighting is a standard action, as is throwing ... you're safe if you end the first round with the standard, and start the next round with a standard, but doing actions in any other order means it explodes in your hand. .. unless there is a way to light it from a distance.)

Sky Rocket:
When lit, this foot-long wooden tube begins to shake and emit a handful of white sparks, shedding light as a torch. One round later it takes flight, moving in a straight line with a fly speed of 90 for 1d6 rounds before loudly exploding in an burst of light and sound, dealing 2d6 points of fire damage in a 10-foot burst (DC 15 Reflex save for half). If a skyrocket impacts a solid surface or a creature before reaching its maximum range, it detonates prematurely at the point of impact. Anyone who takes damage from the explosion is either blinded or deafened (a 50% chance of either) for 1 round.

Desnan Candle:
When lit, this foot-long wooden tube launches a flaming pyrotechnic “candle” every round for 4 rounds. Each projectile deals 1 point of nonlethal damage and 1 point of fire damage if it hits; on a critical hit, the target is also blinded for 1 round. The projectiles shed light as candles for 1 round and have a range increment of 5 feet. Attacking with a Desnan candle is a ranged touch attack and always has a –4 nonproficiency penalty.

-----
Arrange your marching order as you like on the map, near the bottom trail. I'll pick back up late tomorrow (unless everyone checks in), to give a chance for any healing, RP, or other preparations. Please also divvy up the fireworks.

Chuffy wakes the next morning feeling like a champ. A champ with a headache, but still. He runs a couple of laps through the village excitedly, only occasionally tripping over the hem of the battered robe that he won last night.

"Lotslegs? Really?" he asks, suddenly feeling a lot less secure. Then he seems to remember something useful. "Reta lead," he says while pointing a finger at her. "You go first! I sneak, Chuffy best sneak, 'member?" Chuffy then slinks into a nearby bush, after prodding it with his dogslicer to make sure there's nothing scary in it.

Okay, Poog has all of the fireworks. If Retus wants some, he'll let you know. Maybe Poog gives some to Moggy as well.

The morning's travel is largely uneventful. Goblins are a sneaky lot, and the creatures they don't scare they hide from. Around midday, the woods turn to swampland. You occasionally see a large web in the trees above.

Reta, Retus, Poog and Mogmurch (everyone but Chuffy) see a giant spider lurking in the trees up ahead, preparing to pounce.

The spider has been watching you already. The only one flatfooted for the surprise round is Chuffy.

Poog correctly applied the -4 for firing into melee. Adding the -4 for the cover Chuffy is providing, it's a net result of -5. That officially qualifies as the worst roll I've ever seen.

Poog's throw with the javelin is so spectacularly bad that the javelin hits the tree behind him, butt first, braining an unfortunate squirrel. Sometimes you're just so unlucky that you have to be a little bit lucky.

Sorry, didn't realize you needed another post from me. Did my initial club swing hit, though?
Bolstered by his newfound revelation that the spider isn't some mythical creature but is in-fact just a plain ordinary spider that can be killed, Mogmurch continues to bash it's skull in, screaming "Die, die, diez! I killz you! I killz you 'til you's dead! Then Mogmurch be the bestest!"
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Trouble in Tamran | Sky Key Solution | Between the Lines

Sorry, it did, I just missed it.
Moggy's club connects, but does little damage.

The spider retaliates, biting at Mogmurch in return. The bite is shallow, but poisonous.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
bite: 1d6 ⇒ 1
And roll to save against poison. Fort DC 14 or 1d2 ⇒ 1 Str damage.

Sorry for the delay. This weekend has been rough on me. Future weekends should be a bit better.

At the risk of being "that guy," (if I'm going to call out things that might help us, it's only fair I do the same when its not to my advantage) the spider may want to confirm that.

Nervous, but embarrassed about his performance so far, Poog nervously edges closer to the big scary thing, pulling out his dogslicer.
