It takes a few tries but eventually Telos with some help is able to shoulder his way past the door.
A living, moving fabric seems to cover the ceiling of this half-collapsed chamber, which stretches northwest into darkness. The pungent
smell of ammonia rises from the droppings that litter the floor.
As Telos is bashing against the door the ceiling starts to drop down one piece at a time...it's bats! First one makes it's way towards you, then another..and another, and another one until dozens of bats are moving in your direction.

At the front, Telos quickly closes the door as the bats begin to swarm down.
"I'm not equipped to fight a thousand bats," he says.
"If we want to do this, we should wait and do it with a plan. Otherwise, I suggest we continue upstairs."
Jessique |
Let them come to me, I know how to handle these blasted things. My Confirmation taught me well.
Move action, grab scroll, standard action cast burning hands scroll to burn the bats to a cinder...in theory once within 15'
burn hands, lvl 2 thank to Cypher Magic feat: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
8*1.5 for aoe spell=12 damage?
Telos Phane |
I'll go ahead and open the door when Nijena and Jessique are ready. Or maybe I had one move action to close and a second to open it again?
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Nijena isn't able to hit the bats at their present location, since there is a wall in between so it looks like
Telos closes the door
(and readies to open it again?)
Readied attack Nijena
Readied burning hands Jessique Almost, there's still a reflex save for half damage..so could be 6

Or you can just keep the door closed and move on
Dolgo Pinkerton |
Dolgo begins chattering and waving his hands. As he stops suddenly down the corridor the sound of yelling and screaming could be heard. It sounded as though another small adventure group were in the corridor with the bat swarm.
Dolgo casts Ghost sound 25' down the corridor hopefully behind the bat swarm as a diversion to the bats. (DC 13 Will Save)

I don't think this works since I think you need line of effect to be able to cast this..I don't think it works through a closed door..but since I like the idea and it won't matter if you keep the door closed anyway
The bats are distracted by a sound coming from closer to them and move to investigate.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
The bats never made it into your room, as far as I know you closed the door before they got close enough to get into your room (and prepared some attacks in case they come closer)..but right before the door shut Dolgo was able to create a diversion on the other side of the door, distracting the bats. So unless you open the door and go through it towards the bats you guys are not bothered by the bats and can continue searching the tower
Revvy Bitterleaf |
Moving further up the stairs you see that indeed you are getting close to the top. There only seems to be one floor above you now. There's a closed door on this floor, it doesn't seem to be locked..or trapped as far as you can tell. Listening to it you can hear multiple creatures moving around behind it.
Telos Phane |
With a finger to his lips, Telos warns the group to be as quiet as possible.
Then, counting off 'one, two, and three' on his fingers, he opens the door and charges in.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As Telos moves into the room you see;
Crude bunks line the walls of this room, which is filled with the nauseating stench of troglodytes.
There are also 3 troglodytes in this room who are just finishing picking up their weapons as they get of their beds and now look in your direction, hissing in anger at you.

"Nicely done, all," Telos says. "We should continue pressing forward," he adds.
He moves toward the southeast door and prepares to open it. "Everyone ready?"
Revvy Bitterleaf |
After Telos get's the go-ahead from the rest of the party he opens the SE door;
A brazier of glowing coals sits in the center of this room, its acrid smoke mixing with the ever-present troglodyte stench.
A few knives, pokers, and other metal implements lie atop a rusty iron box nearby.
Also in the room is a hulking, brutish troglodyte. The biggest one you have seen so far in this tower. He's wielding a club and is carrying some javelins as well as a necklace around it's neck with what looks like a key.

Actually..the wait was for me..had a course at work and then got home and fell asleep
Telos walks into the room and is able with one powerful hit to take down the big troglodyte before it can react to anything.
The troglodyte has a club and a javelin as well as an iron key hanging from a piece of string around it's neck.
In the chest (that's unlocked) you find;
a suit of masterwork studded leather armor, a masterwork buckler, a masterwork rapier, a shortbow with 15 arrows, two scrolls , a wayfinder, and a climber’s kit.
Telos Phane |
"A lot of useful gear," Telos observes. "Not much suitable for my use...anyone interested?"
He looks at the exits.
"Should we try the northeast door?" he asks as he prepares to open it.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
As Telos open the door to the NE Nijena's question gets an answer;
It opens up into a very small room.
Inside if a blond haired human, who's gagged and shackled to the wall with locked manacles. He tries to shy away from you as the door opens blinking his eyes at the sudden appearance of light in his cell. He's covered in all sort of bruises and a few small cuts, his face is pretty swollen and caked with dried blood. He's not wearing any armor.
When he realizes that you are not troglodytes come to beat him up he mumbles something that you can't make out as he turns his manacles towards you so you can get to them easily.
Dolgo Pinkerton |
"Look Telos, pull him out."
Dolgo jumps forward to help Telos take care of the manacled man.
"I cant pick locks but maybe we can break them."

Telos Phane |
Telos moves back toward the dead troglodyte.
"Or, we could just try this key," he says as he removes the key from the dead creature's neck.
He moves toward the captive, removes the gag, and tries to use the key to unlock the manacles.
If all that works and he's not hostile, I'll offer him some water and food.
Revvy Bitterleaf |
The key Telos uses unlocks the manacles without a problem.
As the man drinks some of the water he coughs and spits out as much as he keeping down. After a few attempts he manages to say:
"I am Balenar Forsend, explorer, reporter and cooperator. As well as a lover of ladies and a fighter. I thank you for setting me free. Who might you be?"
Dolgo Pinkerton |
"Good to see you have not lost perspective of the world... lover of ladies. The friend that has set you free is Telos, I am Dolgo, and there are a few more of us as you will see. What brought you here and how did you end up in this predicament Balenor?"

"I'm guessing the gear we just found belongs to you," Telos says as he shows the man the equipment the troglodyte jailer had.
"There's a wayfinder here...are you a Pathfinder?"
Revvy Bitterleaf |
The man eats the offered berry and looks a bit more healthy.
"To answer your question..I was outside a few? days ago...time has lost it's meaning for me..I'm sorry. But like I said I was outside and then I saw that part of this tower collapsed during a quake..and I couldn't resist to explore it's contents ..and then when I was climbing up to the first floor...some troglodytes jumped me..and locked me in here..and started to beat me up."
"And Yes, I am a pathfinder. You are well versed in Society lore if you can recognize a pathfinder just from the wayfinder he carries."
Telos Phane |
"We are also Pathfinders or aspiring ones, anyway," Telos says. "A dangerous thing to explore this tower alone," he adds.
I seem to remember this is supposed to be an adventure for aspiring Pathfinders, but I also think some of us have already been on other things...
"Take your gear. You are welcome to leave, join us, or wait for us to finish exploring this tower," Telos suggests.
Dolgo Pinkerton |
"Telos is absolutely on point aspiring pathfinder, do as you wish to join us or move on."
