Welcome to my PbP game. Hope you would have a blast!
Before we start, I would to share some of my general guidelines. (In spoiler tags to not take up space.)
PbP Matters
1. This discussion thread is open for all OOC matters, so no ooc tag needed. For OOC matters in the gameplay thread, please use the [ ooc ] tag.
2. Please post at least once a day on weekdays, and once over the weekends. More frequent postings are certainly welcomed, especially when you roleplay with each other. And on certain days, I would be able be able to respond quite frequently as well. Nonetheless, I would attempt to curb my enthusiasm to resolve encounters at most once a day to give the chance for everyone to respond. If there're no posts from you for a while, I would NPC your character to keep the game going if necessary. If you need to be away for some time, please try to let me know in advance and we'll work out something. I have not yet institute a minimum frequency of posts to receive a chronicle sheet, and I hope not to start. :)
3. If you have played and/or GMed this scenario before, please do not metagame or spoil the plot. And please let me know.
Rolls and Skill Checks
4. I would do your initiative rolls, as well as perception rolls for the purpose of determining surprise (if any).
5. On knowledge checks for general information, I would usually put them in spoilers with the necessary DCs. Just go ahead to roll, and I'll trust that you would resist reading them if the roll fails (or least not to metagame). (Don’t forget that you can make knowledge checks untrained for DC10.) There might be exceptions for plot-critical information though, where I would explicitly ask for knowledge checks. As for knowledge checks for monster lore, please state what kind of information you want in order of preference together with your rolls, and I'll reveal accordingly, e.g. DR, resistances, special attacks, etc. Otherwise, I would reveal what I think your character would be most interested in.
6. On skill checks where there could be team effort involved, e.g. finding a hidden trail with survival, influencing attitude of NPCs with diplomacy, please be explicit when making the rolls whether you are attempting the check on your own, or whether you are assisting. (And take note of the pros and cons of either.) There might be situations where only one character is allowed to attempt the check (and the rest to assist) – I’ll state so explicitly if that’s the case.
7. On skill checks in general, if I feel you have roleplayed well, e.g. gave a good description of what your character does to search for a trail, came up with creative ways to befriend a hostile NPC, I would give bonuses, or even waive the DC altogether. :)
Roleplaying Matters
8. The maps and handouts link (at the top of the page) would display all the maps, handouts, pictures, etc as the scenario progresses. The most current page would be right on top, while previous ones would be left there for your reference. (Incidentally, Android and IOS has the Google Slides app in case you work off mobile devices.)
9. Please have your full character information up on your character's profile page. Also, please have your stat block updated with the key information. Minimally please have your current hp vs max hp, AC (normal, touch and flat-footed), saves and movement. Feel free to include others.
10. Finally, I do enjoy roleplaying more than rollplaying. Whilst I've accepted that PFS games do skew towards the latter, I would strongly encourage posts to be more than simply dice rolls. :)
Getting Started
Ok with that out of the way, a few tasks before we kick off.
A. Go to the Gameplay page and dot.
B. Go to the maps and handouts page and fill out the table there. (Don’t worry about the 3 boxes below the table, i.e. token, initiative and perception. I’ll take care of that.)
C. In this Discussion thread, do your day job roll (if any), and share whatever OOC information you would like the rest of the party to know about your character e.g. class, level, special abilities. Also, please let me know if you have played this scenario before.
Fantastic!

I'll likely get this game started end of this week or beginning next week, depending on when everyone gets their characters ready.

Hi there! Zen Shu (Lornis) reporting for duty! My background and roleplay are coming tonight or tomorow but feel free to check the rules GM, I hope I did not do any mistakes but we never know! I will change whatever is needed. (I did not know for example if you had to buy your starting outfit or not).
For all of you people, I'm a Tengu Lawful Good Occultist (Reliquarian) of Abadar. I can for now fire with my crossbow (decently), speak a lot of languages, do some roguish work, and enhance you a little bit.

![]() |

Hi guys! I'll be playing a pre-gen (level 1) so depending on the party make up I'll pick the most appropriate character to fill it out.
GM Kuey - Same situation as the Confirmation, I have a character who is currently in the midst of a pbp, but haven't finished it yet. (no idea what is the ending haha)

![]() |

@Granta, have removed. Can you check in case I got it wrong?
@nejustmo, sure. what scenario is it? Is it Eraith in Merchant's Wake? I'm in that with you. :) Sounds like it's ending. By the way, I'm also with Rolvark in Shades of Ice.
@Phylotus, no worries. We've got quite a few days more.

Tagir is a CG brawler from Qadira and a follower of Shelyn. He deals okay melee damage, but his preferred combat style is to feint, then dirty trick (or will be, once he has the necessary feats). He has all of the Charisma-based skills trained except Diplomacy.
History and personality are a work in progress, but he definitely comes from money and has a lot of relationships with nobles. However, Tagir would much rather quickly deprive a mark of their money, than earn his own. I see him as the type to spend late nights drinking with the third sons of nobles, concocting crazy plans to become wealthier and more powerful than their fathers.
edit: Not 100% sure I'm going to keep Perform trained, but if I do:
Day Job (Perform (comedy)): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

GM Kuey - Nope, I meant I have a character who is in another The Wounded Wisp pbp. Was just doing the full disclosure as requested. But yea, been good pbp-ing with you so far. Be gentle with me as a GM yea =P
Hi to the rest as well! Wow, so far we have an occultist, a brawler and a alchemist...quite a diverse group ^^

![]() |

Alright Zen Shu is done, and ready to go after GM kuey's confirmation. I can still tweak the character if it's needed for the adventure or the group! This if my first PbP as well as my first PFS, so do not hesitate to correct me or give me advice, I'll gladly take them!

Yuvonesom is now ready for adventuring :-) An alchemist who worships Irori, Yuvonesom uses the art of alchemy in an attempt to create a perfect body for his mind and soul to inhabit, one that can excel in any situation. He always dresses in crisp and clean clothes, keeping himself well groomed, and is always on the lookout for more knowledge pertaining to his pursuit, hence his joining of the Pathfinder Society. Tall, blond, and lacking pupils and irises, Yuvonesom strikes a memorable figure for those he meets on his travels.

![]() |

Once your character is ready, please dot in the gameplay thread, so I can keep track. Please also have your basic stats up on the stat line like what Yuvonesom has done, or you can look at some of my alias characters as sample. If you're not sure how to do that, just holler!(@Yuvonesom, can you also add your saving throws and your speed?)
And if you've not done so, please fill out the table at the maps and handouts to facilitate my preparation of the chronicle sheets later.

Guess it's my turn. ;)
Meet Maya, a neutral good half-Tian and half-elven bloodrager; avid reader of adventuring journals, amateur clerk intrigued by all things arcane, and more recently a newly recruited Pathfinder. After witnessing her father's death some years ago within the Dragon Empires, she later decided to abandon her family's mercantile business in favor of finding an adventure of her own, bidding farewell to her elder sister and mother before journeying to Absalom. Seeking to better understand her latent magic and use her talents to benefit the wider world, Maya's quiet determination drives her aspiration to make Golarion a safer place in whatever small ways she can.
Likewise with Zen Shu, questions, advice, criticism, whatever, are all appreciated.

Seoni checking in! Seeing the abundance of martial prowess here and since the Occultist (Reliquarian) is somewhat divine-ish, I'm thinking some arcane support might be in order.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Have to admit I've never played any of the classes you guys are playing haha. Which is great! Would love to see them in action!
Anyway, Seoni is a member of the wanderers known as Varisians, wearing the magical markings of her culture in the elaborate tattoos that crisscross her body.
Despite being a consummate adventurer, Seoni is an enigma. Quietly neutral on most matters, she keeps her emotions tightly bottled and rarely feels compelled to explain her behaviour. She is meticulous, with many long-term plans in mind at all times.

I'm much more like a Crossbow Rogue with really few protection spells for now!

Hey hey, nice to see the party coming together. :)
Few quick questions. What's the general consensus on encumbrance? I imagine we wouldn't lug our bedrolls and such around with us all the time, but I thought I'd ask just in case it comes up.
On the more mundane side of things, can we hand wave things like sheets of paper and lantern oil or would it be better to keep track of supplies in case they run out? Running low on good old food and water can make the narrative on long trips more interesting, but it's also tedious at times. Would be cool to hear everyone's thoughts.
Side note, it's starting to get a little chilly out there... You all set for winter?

That's true I forget to write my encumbrance! I always got an hard time with English lbs and measure unities. I'll wait for GM kuey's decision. Does your character speaks Tian? It could be a good way to communicate privately if needs be.
You got the roleplay of Zen Shu on my profil if you want to learn more about him, but he's a lawful good team player with an open-mind so nothing to fear here from a religious point.
I am so hyped by this PFS thing. Incredible!
PS: Do we have to buy our outfit with our starting gold in PFS or not?

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

All characters begin play with one outfit, valued at 10 gp or less.
Society does change starting gold (150 gp for everyone), but equipment rules remain the same for the most part.
As to encumbrance, my local groups pretty much ignore the need for rations and camping gear. I'm new to PbP, but so far no GM has asked me for that stuff here either. And I have no desire to track it when running games myself.

![]() |

Haha glad to hear it, Zen. :D Yeah, Maya speaks Tien. I'll check out your profile in a bit, sounds cool.
And that's kinda what I was leaning towards too Tagir, good to hear.

![]() |

For this particular scenario, it would be completely within the city, and all within one day (spoilers? :) ) so you don't need to worry about camping gear like bedrolls, etc.
For encumbrance, I would like you to keep track of it. I don't need to actually know your encumbrance, just to let me know if it has light, medium or heavy encumbrance, as that affects some game mechanics. (Honor system.) In most cases, though, it should just be determined by your armor. A common tactic I've seen, however, for those with lower strength and thus ending up in medium encumbrance despite light armor, is put their bulky equipment in their backpack and in the first round of combat, drop the backpack as a free action.
I knowing keeping track of encumbrance can be a hassle but it does adequately restrict spellcasters, etc from excessively dumping their strength. I used those character sheets wish autocompute the encumbrance. Let me know if you want a link to it.
Keeping track of rations actually do come up in some scenaris (but not this one). As for keeping track of things like paper, lantern oil, etc. I'll handwave that. Like for lantern oil, in almost all games I've been in, at least one person has the light spell or has a wayfinder.

Alright my inventory is done according to your advices.

That "drop the backpack" isn't considered a little bit too crunchy? (Because it's a really nice trick I never thought of that!)

![]() |

Unfortunately, rules are silent on what it would be for a backpack. RAW says dropping an item is a free action but some argue this is for something being held in the hand. I find that there is no general consensus on this online, so I've chosen to interpret it leniently. I would take this that if an adventurer is travelling in an area of danger, he would sling the backpack in a way that can be quickly shrugged off. But expect different interpretations by different GMs.

![]() |

Ok, one final thing and I'll be getting this started. The marching order. Based on my understanding of your character, I'll generally put you in the following order, when in single file:
1. Tagir
2. Maya
3. Yuvonesom
4. Zen Shu
5. Iddo
6. Seoni
Most of the time, it would be in two row, however, so:
1-2
3-4
5-6
Let me know if you wish a different position.
Also, if you have not updated your character details in the table at the maps and handouts page, please do so. This is to help me prepare the chronicle sheets later.

![]() |

Doh! A couple more things:
1. Other than Maya and Zen Shu's players (I think), has another one else not played this before?
2. Let me know if this character has (1) played The Confirmation before, and (2) has a wayfinder.

![]() |

GM I added Draconic as my known linguage because I just saw that my mastery of Tien was free because my chracter is from Tian Xia (Appendices concerning linguages in the PFS Guide) so I was one linguage short.

![]() |

Hey guys so far so good! I'm really digging the atmosphere, and PFS gives us a nice opportunity to cooperate with characters from all over Golarion, that's nice. You probably saw that I am not a native speaker, and even if I try my best some mistakes are going to be made. Don't hesitate to point them to me with a pm if you think that I'm ruinning the narrative!

![]() |

Alright thanks all of you. You're right Tagir, and the Scandinavians are really good too. However, as a French, I can say we are terrible (at school) at linguage. I learn more in two Paizo PDF and one episode of Walking Dead than in two years of school.

![]() |

I'm not a native either; I speak Hebrew, which is about as far from English as it gets. Playing video-games and reading comics in English from a young age did wonders to get me where I am. Most Israelis have terrible English, both written and spoken.

![]() |

Sry buzy night at work (I work half time as a watcher for highschool students at night) and we got a drug situation... -_- I'll not post before tomorow 12 AM CET.

![]() |

No worries. With the holidays coming up, I expect posting rates to slow down.

![]() |

And here I am, just an American having lived with English all his life... I'm a little embarrassed that I haven't learned another language yet, now that I've learned how you two learned English, haha.

![]() |

Lucky you, you don't have for travel to learn one! if you ever want to, go with Spanish. And then you can walk all over the earth and be undestood.

![]() |

Not sure how long the scenario is, but I assume things have slowed down a bit for the holidays. I guess it depends on how quickly or leisurely we wanna get through it. And happy new year!
