Jalthas creaks and swings at a skeleton, which has long left once the blade glides by.
The skeleton on the upper level swings at Lance, while the other skeleton climb up the ladder to take a swipe at Anaristiel

Anaristiel has a glaive and combat reflexes, so...
Before the skeleton can reach her, Aishe lashes out with her glaive.

Lance smashes his club, but only hits the floor, while Jalthas splinters some bones with his cold iron blade. Adrianna kicks and moves, but her moves are too stiff and slow.
Mogall efficiently divides his missiles between the skeletons, bringing one down and hurting another, only to see Anaristiel smash the last one to bits.
Combat over!
| DM Kludde |
The wind is still blowing strongly, scraping sand along the canvas roof, which looks at great risk of collapse.
Climb check to reach it, strength check to reinforce the canvas.
~Lance~
|
Lance looks at the climb and then at his heavy mail and shield "perhaps one for you Adrianna"
| DM Kludde |
Adrianna has a hard climbing up to reach the roof.
Maybe someone else can try (or Adrianna can try again)
Jalthas
|
"I guess it wouldn't do any good if I tried - the armor weights me down." explains Jalthas, encouraging Adrianna to go for it again.
If that's enough, you should take 10.
~Lance~
|
How hard is the climb check?
| DM Kludde |
The climb looks tricky, but Adrianna still manages to get up. All it takes is a forceful effort to secure the canvas now.
Adrianna Na'lin
|
I guess that means you won't keep the great strength roll I made before? Rats!
Str: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Figures...
Adrianna keeps trying, her will to succeed overcoming her self-doubt and losing battle against the sand and wind...
Str: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Adrianna struggles at first, but then finally manages to securely tighten the canvas, preventing further disaster.
The ladders in the floor descend down into an area 20 feet lower. A cold, dark stone chamber has walls covered in ancient markings that the ages have worn to the point of illegibility. The higher portion holds a dried-up well, a the ladder leading back up, and descending stairs to the north. The lower portion to the south has two ancient buildings and a collapsed passageway. The floor has fallen near the east wall, exposing another chamber below. A robed corpse lies at the bottom of the ladder, with a satchel right next to it.
The collapse appears to have been recent, and it might not have been an accident.
~Lance~
|
"Any idea what someone was trying to bury? More undead?"
~Lance~
|
"Do we want to check that corpse?"
| DM Kludde |
Some of the items mentioned in the Chelish reports (Remember the handout?) are here. There are some Taldan clay pots, and the site has uncovered an ancient Taldan home.
If you have history, pottery or archaeology skill to show off, now is the time. Perception works as well.
~Lance~
|
Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Lance isn't paying too much attention, pots don't fight back.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Anaristiel, too, searches her mind - and the area - for clues to the significance of what she sees.
| DM Kludde |
Mogall is the only one knowing enough about Taldan history to see that the clay pots seems to be about the right age for what the Chelish claim it to be: part of a lost colony of Taldor established around 1520 AR. The pots could also be explained by long distance trade, but since they are quite unremarkable, that seems unlikely.
You can follow up with an appraise or K(geo) check.
Adrianna confirms that the home is of the right style for the period, but she also notices that the stucco on the wall, while modified to look ancient, has in fact been recently applied.
Adrianna also notices something glistening at the bottom of the well.
Adrianna Na'lin
|
"Something at the bottom of the well glistens in the light...take this rope and lower me down there..." she says, tying the rope about her waist and preparing to be lowered into the well. She holds a torch in one hand to illuminate the well as she descends.
| DM Kludde |
Mogall notices that the clay of these pots is not from the region. It is a bit darker and contains slight dark contaminations that you wouldn't find in this desert region.
Adrianna climbs down the well and find a dagger - a rather ancient one - at the bottom of it. It has a raven-headed pommel.

"Interesting. So someone is trying to pretend this is all something it isn't. A forgery!"
| DM Kludde |
There is a set of stairs to a lower level...
~Lance~

Just being 100% no more nasties were up here, and wondering at how much of a forgery this place is :p
Lance looks down the stairs "Shall we check the wine cellar?"

"This dagger is Jistkan in origin..." Adrianna calls up the well before climbing back out with the dagger tucked in her belt.
"A forgery indeed, but to what purpose I wonder?" she responds to Lance.
| DM Kludde |
Encountering no more monsters at the current level, the party ventures on to the level below.
To the north, a winding stairway descends to the dim chamber below. Four alcoves hold marble statues of grim soldiers from ages past, two on either side of a faintly glowing statue of a regally appointed man who towers in front of the southern wall. Two golden lion statues stand at guard in front of the god. The roof has collapsed at the northwest corner, where a large stone slab lies on the floor below the opening.
~Lance~
|
"So which statues are a trap, or come to life and try kill us?" Lance jests, a little darkly.
Lance moves to check the slab and the area around it.
~Lance~
|
Mogall grimaces "I bet they all come to life and try to kill us!".
"All?" Lance laughs heartily "Didn't have you marked as a total cynic!"
Lance waits for any new information and checks the area.
| DM Kludde |
They'll probably come alive to demand that you hand in your weapons.
The statues, despite the adventurer's expectations, remain motionless.
The statue bear the likeliness of leaders who served in Taldor’s Third Army of Exploration under General Coren.
Adrianna notices that the golden lion statues are actually covered in a layer of plaster and a thin sheen of gold.

Ok THAT was funny :)
