"I agree. It ain't gonna be good if we roast just t'give them remains a passin'. Hope he's in a better place, with an ice cold sherbet in his hand.", nods Parker as Mahmoud is found. "My desire to catch up's been trimmed down a notch, if there's a killer in there. Catch me?", he says, as he retrieves the dagger from the man's back. "What? Ain't no use sittin' round!", he says, as he wipes with with a cloth and puts it on his belt.

"Now hold on there just a second, folks.", says Parker, turning around uneasily. "Song's good'n'all, but it ain't the place for one, catch where I'm goin'? Much rather see some nice shade. Let's sit on the shady part for a while, 'till we all stop seein' things.", he says, taking point into heading to the shade.

The vast majority of the group, including Hokama and his drover and slave boy walk slowly forward, entranced by the song.
Parker realises something is up... but not what exactly... until a large bird - the size of a man almost swoops down from the sky, lifting the small slave boy up into the air and slowly flapping upwards toward the top of the statue.
He also realises there is another of the creatures flapping up there..
Parker can act, range from 1d6 ⇒ 6 60' at closest, but could be further away if he wanted.
George Chadwick Parker
|
"Aw hell naw!", shouts Parker, pointing at the birds. "Get them birds!", he shouts, pointing at the birds. As he's finished, he takes a moment, and a glowing aura surrounds him. Mage Armor, and he gets ready to move.

Everyone can act. Parker can act twice.
Audyn : Grappled and 20' up.

Do we ignore the 'one square is 10 ft' and treat the squares as 5 ft? Otherwise that ain't 20 ft in the sky and we are way to big...
Myrd throws a splinter at the harpy grasping Audyn, expecting that it can't evade as quickly now that it is grasping the human.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
And bleed 1, it takes some time but it will die...

Each square is 10'. I've moved Audyn to a better spot, sorry forgot to update the map before
Myrd and Audyn both attack the horrible bird-woman. Yeap, Audyn has an up close and personal view and can confirm its a bird-woman.
While the wooden splinter goes in, Aydyn can't really twist properly to connect with his rapier and it deflects off thick feathers.

"Now hold on there just a minute!", shouts Parker as he points his finger towards the bird woman. "At least get us a cold drink first!", he says, as a snowball flies towards the green feathered harpy.
Attack, touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

"Get us back the boy and we gon letcha live!", he shouts at the feathered beast.

Unfortunately not. Acrobatics only lets you lessen damage when you deliberately jump down.
Audyn Bancroft
|
Audyn gets back to his feet, cradling a wounded left arm. "Apologies, friends. When I hear beautiful music, I tend to get... carried away. I would very much appreciate some healing if anyone can provide it."
Myrd Sharpclaw
|
Myrd takes a wand and touches Audyn with it "here you are, it might feel sickening but it will heal your wounds"
Infernal healing
"We should find a way to free that boy, I hope that harpy did not kill him yet. Shall we enter that cave and see if we can find a way up?"
GM Aerondor
|
There are a lot of ledges that could be climbed to the top of the statue. While not ideal, they are not too hard for a skilled climber...
Mechanics: A series of narrow ledges that can be followed with a DC 10 Climb check to reach the cave at the statue’s mouth. The ledges themselves are only a foot wide and require DC 10 Acrobatics check to move faster than half speed. Fighting on the ledges leaves creatures flat-footed.
You can see the bird-woman slowly still bringing Atmar up to the mouth, presumably for a snack...
Luralee Worgbear
|
"Thank you for saving us" Luralee says. Looking at the statue, "Do we need to go all the way to the top?
GM Aerondor
|
Those with better night vision can see the cave extends for only about twenty feet. The walls have old flaking paintings that depict something or other. At the far end there is a small stone block, presumably an altar that now holds an old birds nest. Various bowls and cups are scattered around the chamber.
The bird-woman continues to fly up to her cave. The cries of Atmar can now be heard, it appears he too has some out of his trance.
GM Aerondor
|
The cries of Atmar can still be heard. More fear than pain at the moment.. you hope.
Luralee Worgbear
|
"Do we climb up on the outside? Or enter the cave and see if it leads up? Or both? Who is good at climbing?"
Myrd Sharpclaw
|
"I am not a great climber and hate to admit that I am rather afraid to fall down. Let's hope we find a way up through the cave. Otherwise we need to accept the boy is lost to us."
Myrd walks into the cave, looking for a way into the statue
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

His wounds still fresh, Audyn levels exasperated glares at his companions. Stretching his battered and broken frame, he readies for a harrowing climb. "I'll do it," he says as he grabs his first handhold.
Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
Luralee Worgbear
|
Luralee puts on hand on Audyns shoulder stopping him from beginning his ascent. "You have done enough friend. We will scale the rock, but I suggest we let an experienced climber start and we use rope for safety, no need falling to our deaths."
if she had any heal spells she would heal you, apologies.

if she had any heal spells she would heal you, apologies.
He'll be back to full in a minute when the infernal healing runs its course.
GM Aerondor

Every now and then the bird woman takes a look out from her cave. After a short time she notices Audyn bravely climbing the cliff.
She takes to wing, heading down to try and knock him off his perch.
Lets say she is 100' up at the moment, anyone can take an action, Audyn is flat footed due to climbing.

Myrd launches an splintered spear at the harpy. Although it seemed to miss at first some divine intervention (or was it the wind?) causes the splinter to strike true.
Audyn Bancroft
|
"Join the Pathfinders, they said," Audyn mutters, clinging to the stone with both hands. "It'll be fun, they said."
If he finds a spot with a good enough handhold, he'll grip it as tightly as he can and draw his rapier with his free hand in an attempt to defend himself.
George Chadwick Parker

"I real regret my weapon o' choice right now.", mutters Parker as he takes a step outside and readies himself for the chance to freeze the other harpy.

How many rounds had passed between having infernal healing cast on Audyn and when the bird woman attacked him? He's going to have somewhere between 2 and 10 hit points, so it's kind of important. :) Assuming he's not reduced to negatives (and falls to his likely death):
Audyn slashes at the harpy as she flies past.
Rapier attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Rapier damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

I'm assuming he doesn't climb very fast, so Audyn would have been on full hp when attacked.

Luralee tries to climb towards Audyn to at least catch him should he fall...
Climb: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (6) - 4 = 2
GM Aerondor

And Luralee wonders if he ever got off the ground how far she would make it before hitting the ground again...hard.
Audyn, She is using a flyby attack, so doesn't actually ever end near you. However as you stopped climbing last round, I'll assume that was a readied action for you to strike her if she got in range.

Yeah, good point. Audyn will forego climbing any higher so he can ready his action each round to make a counterattack. Maybe she'll pick an easier target next time.
GM Aerondor
|
Under the combined assault of magical spears and keen arrows, not to mention the precariously perched Audyn the harpy becomes a bit of a pin cushion. Screaming in pain she plummets into the ground, joining her daughter in death.
GM Aerondor
|
At the top Aydyn finds a terrified and slightly pecked by otherwise alive Atmar.
"A million thanks upon you brave sit!" he cries out.
It would appear the harpy preferred to keep her meat fresh, or maybe she had even worse plans for the boy..
Hidden amongst the mess in the nest are a load of silver coins and a small teakwood chest. Checking within Audyn finds some gold, a map of this section of the Silken Way - with a personal seal on it.
With a gasp, Audyn recognizes the seal as that of Gaspar.
He also finds a bejeweled kukri that was also part of the shipment of goods that Gaspar and Mahmoud carried.
George Chadwick Parker
|
Parker eventually lets go of his aimed fingers, a couple of snowflakes melting in the desert air before they hit the sand. "Well I'll be damned!", he shouts as he sees Audyn descend the statue with the kid in check. "That was a g~+~%&n heroic if I ever seen one! Not that I plan on partakin' in one m'self." He sighs. "So, I'm guessin' we can take a small breather in 'ere, then keep goin'. Don't feel like gettin' ma bones picked, regardless o' how well the picker sings."
