Claw remains transfixed by its curse while Tooth carves into Orange with some ease. Antonella meanwhile hammers at the cyclops, dealing significant damage.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 9

The Nekomancer casts his spell, but the woman just shakes it off easily. Misfortune not triggered.
Meanwhile, Tofu scales the wall and gets within striking range of the cyclops... but in getting within her reach exposes himself to an attack from Red.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 20
1d20 ⇒ 14
1d8 + 8 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 8 + (6, 3) = 18

He is struck - in fact, his spear goes straight towards Tofu's neck! However, the cat-mage notices it in time, and still having his hex available, uses it to subtly shift the trajectory so that the spear merely cuts across the flesh rather than skewering it outright.

Neko, I have invoked your previous modus operandi to assume that you will force Red to reroll his crit threat.

Fade, being confused, continues to blast the cyclops with lightning.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 15
5d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 4, 2) + 9 = 21

He hits easily, dealing some damage.

The cyclops delays, but shouts to Red, "Iraska! Cast that spell!"

Neko I used your misfortune on Red to negate his crit threat on Tofu. I assume this is what you would have done.
Tofu you take 18 damage from an AoO from Red.
Dailung is up.

Well if I take 1 more hit like that I'm quite likely to die. This was just the worst of luck.

Silver Crusade

Scrabbling over that hard corner, Tofu would also provoke an AoO from Antonella (and Dailung).

Antonella could take a non-lethal (with no penalties) improved unarmed strike at Tofu (d8+5 NL if it hits) to try and knock him out.

If he’s knocked out there would also be the d6 of lethal fall damage from the cliff into the ankle deep water below.

Being an aquatic elf, Tofu can breathe in water and air, so I can't imagine he could drown in the water from unconsciousness.

Downside is, Tofu would then be helpless to any area of effect spells like fireball.

Tofu + GM Aram Zey, would you be OK with me and/or Dailung trying this?

I like this idea Antonella. The downside of the fireball is perhaps a less likely alternative than getting my head chopped off or split in half. Mostly cause enough party members are suppressing the cyclops that her attention is probably not on the dying elf.

Also my trident is on the ground. If I continue going berserk, I will attack with an untrained unarmed strike, which if I recall correctly (As I have not done that in years), will provoke anyways, and then I am for certain dead.

If I am conscious to my next turn, I will make an unarmed attack that I am not trained in, take up to 3 attacks of opportunity, and die anyways.

My only OTHER chance of survival is if BOTH the confusion casters go down this turn and the Cyclops doesn't attack me so I can flee and heal myself.

Botting Dailung

Dailung flies towards the cyclops with her scimitar drawn, and slashes at it. However, the cyclops gets a swing at her as she closes in.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 12
1d8 + 13 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 13 + (6, 6) = 31

1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38

1d20 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 20 = 32
1d6 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 24

The cyclops gives Dailung a vicious bite as she approaches, and she returns the favour with a vicious slash across the cyclops' chest.

Dailung takes 31 damage, and crits the cyclops for 44 damage.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 18
2d100 ⇒ (53, 21) = 74
1d20 ⇒ 8

1d20 ⇒ 10

Red casts her spell defensively, and she and her allies appear to speed up! Orange, still blind stabs blindly with the only weapon she has in her hands at the only target she remembers seeing, but her spear glances off the mantis' thick chitin plates. But at least her vision finally clears.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 13
1d8 + 13 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 13 + (4, 1) = 19

1d20 ⇒ 12
1d6 + 13 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 13 + (6, 5) = 26
1d20 ⇒ 7

1d20 ⇒ 8
1d8 + 13 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 13 + (4, 3) = 28

The cyclops, having taken a severe blow from Dailung, takes her out first with another vicious bite. As she goes down, the cyclops turns its attention to Tooth... and tears into Tooth with her own tooths and claws... tearing her into bloody ribbons!

Dailung took 50 damage in total from an attack of opportunity and the first attack from the full attack. She is unconscious and bleeding out.
Tooth took 51 damage from the next 2 attacks, then 28 damage from the final attack. I think he is very dead unless he has some trick to avoid death. DR reduces that by 10, still leaving him at -10hp. He is bleeding out too.
Pathfinders are up.

@Boss, the square of the map Antonella is on was carefully chosen because it has a ledge on it. As such, I would respectfully submit she is on solid ground and does not need a fly check.

** spoiler omitted **

She does not, so nothing changes.

If she's taking a 5' step, isn't that a DC10 Fly check for moving less than half your speed, rather than a DC15 Fly check to hover in place? She did need to make a 5' step to close with the cyclops, but that would mean no AoO and a full attack against the cyclops provided she makes the DC10 check. Sorry for nitpick - we're up against it and it's hard when two players have basically gone awol for the BBEG fight :(

The Nekomancer tries to compel the orange woman to attack her cyclops master.

Murderous command on the orange one (Trump?) to attack the cyclops, unless Antonella finishes off the cyclops, in which case orange will be made to attack red. Will force rerolls of 8 or more on the save.

Grand Lodge

Border of War map Reign of Winter map

Tooth since you can only take a 5ft step if you don't make any other move, you first need to check whether you can choose not to move before you decide to take a 5ft step. Therefore you need to make the hover check first.

Antonella It's small, but I can accept that as a foothold. However Fade is currently confused, so I don't think he has enough presence of mind to take tactical advice. He was favoring lightning over telekinesis before this to get easier hits.

Tofu your octopus could indeed swim around if it can open its own aquarium.

Tofu begins fencing with Red with his trident, scoring a hit.

With two allies down, Antonella pulls out all the stops, hammering at the cyclops for all she's worth. Fortunately for her she is worth quite a bit, and she finally manages to knock down the tenacious cyclops, even despite her unnatural ferocity. She even has enough energy left over to punch orange as well.

Claw remains immobilized by the curse.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 6

The nekomancer's casts his spell and feels no need to manipulate orange's luck, but the spell still fails to affect her. It seems that they do not need much help from fortune to resist his spell. Misfortune conditions not triggered.

GM:

1d20 ⇒ 20

1d100 ⇒ 72
1d8 ⇒ 3

Despite her grievous wounds, Dailung's body rallies itself and her bleeding stops.

Fade, deprived of his target, begins flailing about mindlessly, and hits himself in the process.

GM:

1d8 + 7 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 7 + (3, 6) = 17

3d20 ⇒ (1, 17, 4) = 22

Red realizes that Tofu will just keep attacking her, so she tries to take him down first. She succeeds, though she does not do enough to kill the poor hapless caster outright. She moves on to Claw since the cat-person does not appear to be doing much with his spells anymore. However, she is unable to stab through the mantis' chitinous shell. Orange fares no better against Antonella.

Fade takes 3 damage from hitting himself in his confusion.
Tofu takes 17 damage and is bleeding out.
Dailung and Tooth are stable. Claw remains cursed and acts normally on a 1-50 on a 1d100.
The cyclops is defeated! Only her minions remain.
Some close brushes, but it looks like there will be no casualties on this mission after all.

But before Red can even act, Fade's mind clears momentarily, and in that moment of clarity, he gathers power and blasts Red with an empowered telekinetic blast. Red is knocked unconscious, and the battle is concluded as you hide in various corners and wait out the remainder of Fade's confusion.

You search the bodies, recovering various items that will no doubt bring you profit when you get to sell them (but that will be of no use to you in this scenario since that was the last battle). You also recover a wealth of Iobarian artifacts that the cyclops had gathered. One tome is of particular interest - it is labelled "The Firespeaker Accord". It details an ancient pact between a group of Iobarian pilgrims (called the Firespeakers) and the local warlords of a land that, based on the description, was Brevoy before it came to be called Brevoy. The Accord indicates that the pilgrims had been led by cyclopean prophets who believed this land held a special spiritual significance, being the birthplace of “the Second Dragon,” an alleged figure of greatness and divinity. By these Accords, the local region is marked as neutral territory and it bears signatures from the heads of several ancient tribes, including several from whom the noble Brevic houses descended. The names of Orlovsky and Surtova are amongst them.

Combat is over. What do you wish to do now?

Antonella should be able to see to Dailung's safety.

Tooth regains consciousness thanks to Tofu's healing hex...

"What? What happen? Me was ready to kill cyclops, then me not remember anything but flashing pain. Me not dead? No, me not dead! Claw is broken. But Tooth is alive, and false cultists dead! Blood god is pleased, but me need to send Claw back to him now. Broken Claw not good. What we find? Shinies? Me need to get paid."

Upon examining the Accords, Tooth comes to a realisation. "Ah! This say nobody is king here! We bring this to Orlovskys and Surtovas yes?"

GM, it's only going to be for flavour now if there are no more battles, but at this juncture with a cursed and ineffective Companion, Tooth would dismiss and slay Claw. (No need to Healing Hex the bug, Tofu). Tooth has a very strong affinity for the concept of Claw, but not for the individual personage. Tooth can fully retrain a replacement in one game session, so he's never going to pay gold for removing curses or other afflictions on the vermin.

Guys, if GM Aram Zey is OK with it, feel free to adjust your consumables based on Antonella’s free healing.

Antonella begins by channelling for all the Pathfinders and Claw.

channel healing: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 5) = 14

She then spontaneously converts divine favor and bless into CLW spells.

CLW on Dailung: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW on Dailung: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

The paladin frowns as Ikarus raises the Infernal healing wand in his tentacles – but she doesn’t say anything.

However, she is appalled at Tooth’s attitude to his animal companion. “Claw has faithfully served you, Baron and has taken a LOT of pressure off this team.”

“And now you call him ‘broken’ and wish to return him to the Pit??”

The paladin’s eyes narrow. “What if it was ME lying ‘broken’ beside the cyclops YOU had slain? Would you ‘waste your time’ healing me – or just let me continue to my next incarnation, when my journey up this Mountain is incomplete?”

“What about loyalty and the opportunity for redemption? Are they worth anything at all??”

She shakes her head. “I wonder what Lady Mika would think of such an attitude.”

This paladin-y tirade is followed by Laying of Hands on Dailung and Tofu.

LoH on Dailung: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
LoH on Dailung: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
LoH on Dailung: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
LoH on Tofu: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
LoH on Tofu: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

@SV, I am sure you are aware but just in case, Antonella’s rant is only roleplaying ;)

Tooth wrote:

Antonella nods curtly – clearly still upset. “I concur with your analysis, Baron and note we have found some of the other items the Brevan nobles were missing. It seems it is time to return to our hosts.”

She completes tying up and disarming the surviving dragon cultist, with the intent of dragging the delinquent before Zmeyka’s distracted rulers, to demonstrate how insidious evil undermines the very power base they squabble over.

“But first if you will excuse me, I must have a frank discussion with Brother Fade about the value of mind-bolstering magic items.”

Naturally :) What would Antonella think if I'd managed to cast Bleed for Your Master, I wonder ;) Likewise, Tooth's response.

"You mammal monks, always imposing own flaws on others! Claw not person. Claw concept of Divinity! God cannot be broken, yes? God is perfect. Claw not perfect now, so not Divine. Not Divine, so not Concept of Divinity. See? Me loyal to blood god. Him send Claw to me. This not Claw. Me send back to blood god. Then Blood god send Claw. Understand?"

The Baron counts the shinies whilst arguing theology.

"Lady Mika strong warrior. Me think she understand." Me sure Mika will follow blood god too.

“Of course I understand.”

Well, she does now.

“Let’s say I buy the inference that the ‘current’ incarnation of Claw is merely an imperfect tool.” Of your abominable god.

“A loyal minion who has strived to safeguard you while crawling through this hole that nearly claimed your life.”

“Leaving aside your notion that our 'now-tainted' Claw hatched from Achaekek’s nether regions a perfect instrument. Please. I’m still hearing that it’s OK to discard a loyal, hard-working tool.”

Antonella shakes her head, though she does have sufficient presence of mind to wonder if she’s just arguing in an attempt to get the final word.

“I believe a female possessing virtues capable of attracting one of your high station, Baron Tooth would take a dim view of this.”

“To the extent that she would consider the long-term ramifications of pairing with such an individual.”

Having fully explored Hartsfall Keep, you return to the surface. Before bringing your discoveries back to the Society, however, you stop by at Zmeyka again. You return the copper eagle to Sylvanna Orlovsky, who is delighted to be reunited with her childhood keepsake. You also deliver the medicine journal to Grandt, who is able to complete his cure for the plague blighting the hometown of Berislav Surtova, leaving him indebted to you. With these developments, you are able to hold their attention long enough to show them that both their ancestors had designated these lands as neutral territory, and that neither House holds more claim to the lands than the other. They agree to discuss terms for peace and joint rule of the lands, and peace is restored to the region (at least for a time).

Pathfinders for accumulating 10 discovery points, you have completed your primary success condition. By remaining neutral in the conflict and restoring peace to the region, you have completed your secondary success condition and obtained the Peacekeeper of Brevoy boon, which will be on your chronicle sheets.

Pathfinders should now roll any dayjob checks you may have. You should also roll a 1d20 for your boon. If you roll a 19 or 20, you may roll another 1d4, which will determine your boon.

“But that doesn’t mean He didn’t have any help along the way:

“In the forest, Irori found a group of ascetics. He thought ascetism was the path to enlightenment. For six years he lived with the ascetics. He ate one grain of rice and drank only river water each day.”

“One day a boat was on the river conveying a musician and his students. Irori heard the musician say, ‘If the string is too tight, it will snap. If it is too loose, it will not play.’ After hearing that, Irori knew that He wanted to find a middle way. He accepted a bowl of rice from a village girl. He had broken His promise to be an ascetic.”

Waiting for Tofu's rolls, then I will report and issue the chronicles. I suppose Fade and Dailung can still roll for their boons if they finally check in before I do the reporting. But based on consultation with the online VOs, they will not be getting the boon or prestige or gold for beating the cyclops because they left the game before the primary and secondary success were achieved.
