Silas, I'm just gonna start shooting these guys with my crossbow til they get up a closer, then blast them with my pistol. Let me know if you want something different.
I would say from looks of things, you are doing just fine. Silas remarks as the bolt strikes the gnoll leaving fur fly and a slow river of blood as the injured shooter cowers on his weapon.
The caravan was composed of two crawlers-metal steam wagons with multiple spiked wheels. They were durable and fireproof, but also loud and slow. Silas frequently pointed out the fact that if the machines had been enclosed, they would have been better inventions. As most engineers pointed out to him however, was that the inside would get too hot.The other three vessels were your standard wooden wagons, although well-crafted, they could burn and required horses, not coal to power them. Captain Aring led the caravan until a musket ball entered his neck and ended his life. He was a veteran of the Wastes and warned often to maintain strict vigilance for the many horrors of the plains. The three dignitaries from Quantium were shrouded in secrecy and traveled with four elite bodyguards who will not fight unless there is a direct threat to the dignitaries. Silas and Armistad were hired as that first line of protection. Silas saw it as a paid trip home, while Armistad thought that the idea was insane.
Armistad stretches forth his hand and calls upon his ancestors to bring a great cloud of mist to grant them temporary reprieve. instead, a quick poof of water vapor burst s forth.
Saving his pistol for a closer range, Silas draws his longbow and lets loose of an arrow at one of the laughing dogs.
longbow:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 damage:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
A high-pitched yelp indicates that the arrow strikes true. Eight healthy gnolls still attack as two scrounge for cover.
One gnoll takes aim at Darius.
attack:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15 damage:1d10 ⇒ 8
The steel ball ricochets of the crawler sending sparks flying, missing Darius completely.
After narrowly escaping a musket shot, Darius takes a deep breath and quickly reloads his crossbow and fires again, hoping to finish off an injured gnoll if he can.
Grillik growls around his tusks as he slots another bolt into his crossbow. "With the Cap'n gone, who's in charge of this mess now? I just want to know who to bill."
He takes aim, and mutters "Die, dog," in orcish as he fires.
The crazed dogmen closed in to about 30 feet. There were 8 healthy ones ready to feast in the barren waste. Lackey called frantically for any additional help to the front.
I can't imagine this vermin has figured out how to make guns on their own and I also highly doubt they could have taken a shipment with the guard it would have had. I'm think' maybe someone is arming them and I don't like that thought much.
Every PC should attack and then I will have the gnolls attack. They are standing in front of us in a semi-circle, confident in their success of closing the gap and finishing the standoff.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" A tall Mwangi woman, former part of a Bekyar clan, draws the perfectly clean scimitar. [b]"We need to take those weapons, perhaps whoever made them was foolish enough to leave a maker's mark."
With that she rushes in, steering in the direction of the alchemist.
Will charge the alchemist if I can safely, otherwise will charge the nearest target I can reach without provoking.
Silas was amazed at the female monk whom he had been unaware of fight so well and that of the surprise onslaught, only Darius' s blade struck true, slicing the gnoll in th he chest leaving a gaping wound. His own attack had been thwarted by a blocking spear.
As the gnoll starts charging toward Merrilin he noticed that his companions are suffering from lowered moral.
He begins singing a song to inspire their courage, while attempting to deflect the gnoll's attack.
AC = 10 + 2 armor bonus +4 DEX mod +1 size modifier = 17
"Hey old boys, listen up listen up! These gnolls are nothing! They couldn't beat us. Why they're putrid, smelly and really quite dumb. So come boys! Come on now! Push them back! Slit their throats! Slice, Dice and leave them to rot!"
Inspire Courage +1 moral saving throws, +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls to all allies who can hear the song

Weaving through the fight Magali made her way closer to the bomb thrower while evading the reach of his companions. Still unable to close with the mongrel she instead lashes out at one of his companions, using both hands to add to the swing.
Move as close to the alchemist as I can without provoking. Stop at first gnoll I can't avoid provoking from and attack it, or the alchemist of course.
