Hiiram is pretty much just a wandering scholar, and he's in the Linnorm Lands to learn more about the magics used here. He's a simple, solitary guy, and he was pretty much lured into coming on the raid to see what the spellcasters on both sides are capable of.

Olaf was looking to join up with a raiding crew. Anyone likeminded he could likely have met in the Iron Bound Islands. Is there are particular Island we're starting on?
Olaf Snow
Well looks like I found myself a boat!
Olaf is proud, and fond of drinking, fighting, and wants to prove himself. If anyone else has similar tastes they could have met while he was searching out the crew of raiders to join. Olaf doesn't yet know how to be a sailor or swim, as this is his first time from being landlocked.

@GM
Can you give us an NPC Captain to have recruited us? Maybe with an explicit mission: "raid the Broken Bay" would be enough. Maybe a set of ports where s/he were recruiting, maybe beyond the Iron Bound Islands, so those of us on the continent could have been recruited easier? The NPC Captain does not have to last long but would be good to give confidence in the PCs to join the crew.
In specific, Aubheroene would need a reason to travel to the Iron Bound Islands. It would be an easier hook for him if an NPC Captain recruited him in the rough and ready docks of Alseifar to go on a revenge raid into Broken Bay.
Would you also please post an intro post in Gameplay, so we can dot the campaign into our list?
cheers

Since the discussion thread is going now I'll post this here as well (Since we should probably let the recruitment thread die off)
Looking forward to running with everyone, looking over the party roles shaped up as:
Hálvr Grímmrsǫngr (Skald) Melee/Buffer
Dalgar Carver (Warpriest) Melee/Self-buffer/limited support
Hiiram Melech (Arcane Trickster) Ranged
Aubheroene (Evoker) Ranged
Alfred Redhill (Bard; CC based) Buffing/Support
Olaf Snow (Bloodrager) Melee/Self-buffer
Soral Darkrent (Mystic Theurge) Ranged/Support
J’larky (4th elven Arcanist) Ranged
It looks like we'll have some party buffs going out, but it doesn't seem like a whole lot will be cast (more going out as rage song/bard song).
Looks like a lot of the casters have bent towards evocation, so we'll be the hell raisers burning stuff to the ground eh?
When are we looking to get started?
Dalgar Carver
I think we can bear with it for now.
Dalgar Carver despite his name s a huge 7 foot guy built like The Mountain. No solid well defined muscles here. Just a walking lump.
A wandering priest of Erastil, he found himself on the boat having offered to aid in the healing but not asking what they were doing. He may or may not have met some of you as he does travels around rather frequently attempting to preach the words of Erastil.
Hálvr Grímmrsǫngr
Hálvr is an exiled native of Bildt whose thrown his lot in with White Estrid and the Ironbound Isles upn his return from enforced sojurn...
He has no problem with raiding, having honed those skills operating out of Riddleport (not sure if any "outlanders" want to have fallen in with Hálvr prior to arrival?)
Don't think we're light on that beef are we? With the potential of plenty of buffs think Olaf, Dalgar and Hálvr will be pretty potent in melee :) Know my lad can hit like a trow ;)
Just need to nail down final equipment and spell picks and I'll be good to go.
Looking forward to it.
Hiiram Melech
Skald + Bloodrager + Warpriest should be all the buff dudes we need. And even though most of us casters have an evocation focus, we can still buff as necessary. :)
Hálvr Grímmrsǫngr
Hálvr's epic character profile complete... a Saga in itself!
Am holding off nailing down his background incase anyone else wants to feed into their relationship? As mentioned above, he's a former exile returning to the North - could be he's the catalyst for your character also doing so (or vice versa)...
Have taken the Rage Power (+5 ft movement) so we'll all move a little quicker when he's uttering his odes... :)
Also took some odd-ball spell choices - figured they fitted his duelling (both physical and verbal) nature and would have helped him find "gainful employ" in Riddleport and beyond. Some will be a lot of fun to roll/role-play heh.
BTW - what timezones are we all operating on? I'm in the Granite City O' Bonnie Scotland... so am GMT.
Hiiram Melech
Southeast 'Murrika here - EDT (GMT-5).
Hiiram will probably be quite interested in your spellcasting and Raging Songs, Halvr, because they're both really outside of his experience.
Hálvr Grímmrsǫngr
Could be that Hiiram breezed through Riddleport interested in cypermagicks? Somehow fell in with the big skald and they ultimately made their way North??
Likewise Hálvr would have an healthy respect for Hiiram's divination abilities - particularly as he see's himself somewhat fate-bound... Anyone who can see that skein of fate is to be valued :)
Hiiram Melech
I'd be down with that.
Dalgar Carver
GMT +8 for me.
J'Larky
GM... Would you mind putting at least a dot or something in the gameplay thread, so I don't have to go searching for this thread to see updates??? Thanks in advance.
J'Larky doesn't really mix with the crew. He does his part when it's time, and keeps to himself most of the rest of the time. It's not that he doesn't like the others, or is bad company, he is just busy most of the time imagining his visions of grandeur, and how he will flaunt his success in the face of those who doubt him. If someone approaches him he will speak and be friendly enough, though often his lack of knowledge about the world shows through. He is constantly evaluating where those around him could fit into his ever developing master plan.
I swear I'll finish up, and get equipment purchased and details finilized sometime before tomorrow.
Olaf Snow
If you connect the gameplay thread we can start freeform roleplaying there. Olaf certainly would have been interested in other spell casters, so if he met some in a local tavern (his other great interest), they could have met up there. He was also looking for a raiding crew, so that also works.

As an interesting twist am wondering if the default language of the game is Skald and Common (Taldan) would be represented by something else?
Normally in Norse themed games I'd pepper my characters speech with dashes of pseudo flavour - for example:
"Nei foul trow! Nei more of our blodd will you spill! Your time is at an endir (end)! So claims this Sonr (Son) of the Norðri (North)!"
However if Skald is the default then Common or other tongues would be in other forms?
Just my 2 runes worth in terms of flavouring the game which has worked in other games I've been in and ran.
Looking forward to the raid :)

Liking the hubris some of us are displaying already - will make for a heady mix in a number of situations lol...
Definitely. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go in the campaign.
Olaf Snow
Rolling initiative and giving a round status update when you take your actions as a GM is a good idea. It also allows all the players who are coming up on initiative to act together, rather than waiting for each other's posts.
Aubheroene
Grouping initiatives as much as possible, so we don't wait for player's initiatives to post. Players can post as available. And slower posting players aren't left behind.
Really would appreciate a map when casting spells. Otherwise, I'm blind and don't have a tactical way to avoid AOOs
thanks

Will be on 'Holiday' from 12th December to 22nd December. I'm told that there'll be little wifi.
Hiiram Melech
You have to log into your Roll20 account before it will let you join the game. :)
-edit-
Or not? Huh.

I imagine green is the hill, tan is the beach, red is our boat and blue is the water.
