Sarala says, "Thanks, now watch this!"

After telling Ruika to watch, she runs up behind Anapa, mumbling an, "Excuse me," climbs up by using the opposite walls to get up and climb over Anapa, getting in position to go over, with hands pressed against one wall and feet pressed up against the opposite. She does a horizontal walk quickly over Thurrios and the choker faster than most people can walk. "Watch the tail," she says quickly due to her tail hanging close to the man's face, though it curls up a bit as she makes her way above the enemy to avoid getting it tugged on. Once the vanaran arrives at the other end, she hops down and spins in the air, drawing her temple sword and slashing down at the thing. "Death from the heavens!"

Accelerated climb: 10 + 17 - 2 = 25

10 feet to get into position to climb, 5 foot climb up, climb forward 10 feet, down 5 feet. With accelerated climb, Sarala's climb speed becomes 40 feet, same as her movement speed, and this move uses only 30 feet even assuming no diagonal movement. Sarala retains all armour bonuses while climbing.

Julius rushes into the room as he hears the sound of battle. With the newly placed lights illuminating the room, Julius is able to see the oversized arachnids. He lets out an eep! but otherwise tries to keep his composure.

Knowing his previous plan to summon a helper won't avail him while the passage is clogged full of Thurrios and his new friend, Julius begins murmuring a different spell. Raising his hand palm out he attempts to cool some of the choking fervor of the ifrit's assailant.

snowball: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

But sadly the conjured snow simply splashes the choker with a mildly irritating slush. Aside from adding to the natural chill of the desert air, the creature is unaffected. Well, maybe some of its fur is cleaner than before...


Round Two (Part 3)

Entering the temple, Julius conjures up a tightly packed ball of snow and hurls it into the crowded hallway. The spell surprisingly hits its mark, but does not quite have the desired effect. The snow's magical coldness fails in mid-flight, resulting in little more than a mundane snowball splashing against the choker. It does not seem terribly amused.

Narku decides that a new target deserves a new blade. Exchanging his longsword for his scimitar, he swings not at his strangler, but the creature strangling his strangler. Fortunately, the creature is just as preoccupied. The blade cuts deeply into its long appendage, stopping just short of removing it entirely.

Seeing an opening, Sarala effortlessly climbs over her allies and the choker, climbing being second (or even first) nature to her. The choker cranes its neck to look at her in confusion; when the monk drops down to attack, its face is promptly split open, spraying blood and fragments of bone everywhere. The choker's body immediately goes limp, spending a brief stint as Thurrios' neck ornament before its grip slackens enough for it to fall to the ground.

Ruika looks through the dark archway where the combat is occurring. Seeing the splatters of blood and the grunts of weapons on flesh, she focuses on the spirits of the land and of the places around her - drawing upon the natural energy of the building and acting as a foci for the positive energy. Just when she thinks she cannot contain any more of the ether she lets it go in an explosion of energy.

Round Three (Part 1)

Freed from the choker's grasp and with the worst of his wounds already healed, Thurrios enters the next chamber. He approaches the choker strangling Narku, itself being strangled by its own companion. Haggardly breathing, there is nothing the creature can do to avoid Tempest as it cuts deep into its body, nearly cutting it in half. The bloodied aberration desperately clings to its prey, already at death's door.

Ruika releases a small pulse of positive energy that sweeps throughout the entire chamber and into the next, ever so slightly closing open wounds.

Narku, Sarala, and Thurrios are healed for 1 hit point. So are the chokers, but who's counting?

Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Anapa is finally able to enter, but finds that he cannot get past his allies to attack.

Regardless, the two chokers notice his presence, and only then seem to realize how outnumbered they are. The heavily aberrations disengage from combat, releasing their prey and scampering across the ground. Desperate to escape, they crawl up the pillars and go over the roofless wall of the chamber.

Both chokers release their grapples and withdraw from combat.

Narkû scrunches up his face in a snarl at Thurrios's first comment, and then you see his face relax as if lets some anger or frustration pass over him.

After a moment passes,"Sarenrae be blessed. Thank you Thurrios. I will strive to do better in the next engagement."

"Let me gather up my weapons and sharpen them again, then I will be ready to continue," he says as he picks up his longsword and falchion, then pulls out his whetstone.

Sarala hides away while the half-orc sharpens his weapons, to pull her own relatively unused whetstone from her pack and work on her temple sword. "No lucky feeling on this one..." she grumbles, "I think it'd be best to stick together a bit closer from here on out. 'cause I had to do some vertical thinking to even help you out a little, and your eyes were getting a bit bulgy."

Through the archway is another roofless chamber. Devoid of any truly defining features, it was once perhaps a meditation hall. Much like the exterior of the ruin, anything here that was even remotely remarkable has long since been obliterated.

The room ahead however, is a different story.

Still bearing an intact roof, the room ahead appears to have retained its splendor. On the walls, carvings celebrate a radiant figure. At his mighty command, legions of elementals build entire cities, raging seas calm, and enemies are brought to accord. Four falcon-headed statues guard a chamber to the west.

Ruika beckons towards Lyssa and Julius to keep up as she walks behind the others into the room. Though the ancient historical mural intrigues her, especially of the individual who has the power to command armies of elemental spirits, she moves forwards still.

When Narku enters the room with the carvings, it is suddenly illuminated by soft light, originating from crevices on the walls near the ceiling.

The central figure on the wall is identifiable to Anapa and Thurrios as the god Nethys, but the significance of the rest of the carvings is lost on them.

Ruika runs her pale fingers over the walls, being careful not to disturb any of the aeons old plaster or paint. She mumbles softly to herself, dipping her head so that her pale visage is lost in flickering shadows. Interpreting the designs on the wall, with a worried glance to Julius - trying to ascertain if he's gone off on another maniacal diatribe.

Not seeing any obvious danger in this lit room, and knowing that anything of value is always beyond four falcon-headed statues guardians, Narkû moves on into the next room.

The guerilla party's newest member the witch Ruika is right to be worried. Julius has largely ignored everyone as he and the rotating balls of light above his head dash to and fro examining everything from the ruined sections to the dead bodies of the chokers to the cleaner and less decrepit walls. Eyes wide and giggling like a school boy with a crush, the arcanist takes advantage of the forty-five minutes of time Narkû spends sharpening his blades to catalogue everything he sees in one of his journals.

When they finally move forward into the lighted room with the mural, Julius gasps and falls to his knees, unabashed adoration on his face at the depiction of Nethys.

Ruika moves up behind Julius and clamps a heavy hand on his shoulder; "Pretty statue, we take?" She points to the halberd with her free hand as an instrument for 'de-plinthing' the statue... There's a wry smile that crosses her lips.


Julius and Ruika recognize that the carvings of Nethys' conquests are as much a history as they are a metaphor - a celebration of the two-bladed nature of magic, and by extension, Nethys himself. In his hands he holds the power of creation and destruction. Order and chaos. Paradoxical forces that would have no meaning without the existence of the other. Even an apprentice knows of the divide, but many old sages have spent all their lives trying to truly understand it. After all, it was through his mastery of the arcane alone that Nethys first ascended to divinity.

Ruika:
Some of the god's most prominent heralds are featured in this carving. The trumpet archon Bard. The wicked lich Takaral. And of course, the cloud-like being known as the Arcanotheign.
