Hey all, just finished an epic PbP game on these boards as a player so I find myself with some time on my hands and high level play has always intrigued me. I wish to run a modified version of The Tomb of the Iron Medusa with the books available at the time the module was released.
Character creation rules:
15 point buy
2 traits
Background skills will be used
Core races only
Core Rulebook and APG content only
13th level (75% of max hit points)
Wealth: 140,000 gp (no more than 40,000gp on one item)
No evil alignment
Submission: interesting character concept and back story, including description of physical appearance, with game stats.
I know high level characters take time so will keep recruitment open for 10 days. Any questions, please let me know.

Hello,
I am interested in this game but I am wondering how you select players. I find it hard to come up with characters, build it and a backstory only to be turned down. Let me know, thanks.
Happy Gaming
Secret
Well I am recruiting a 4 person team and to those unfamiliar with the module, it is largely a dungeon crawl, so a dedicated healer and a trap finder are a must. After that the other two slots are generally open to whatever concept intrigues me the most. After all, at 13th level, you are among the most powerful players in the world. What are your end goals, agenda, outlook on life? Hope that helps.

Would you allow the trap finder campaign trait? It seems to fit the adventure. And I'm thinking Avoron probably has the healing role filled pretty nicely.
Edit: Thinking an Archer Inquisitor sould be a fun way to step outside my typical mold.
2nd question: I assume the answer to this is no but would you allow the old guided weapon enchantment? +1 bonus allows wielder to use Wis for to-hit and dam. Figured I'd ask.
3rd question: What do we know about the RP reason we are entering the Necropolis? The quest-giver wants us to get information? I'm thinking about how to write a character who would be interested in jumping into this death trap. XD

Thanks! Sorry I just added more questions.. :P
Link to guided on the archives.
I think I'll go Archer Inquisitor either way. Just wondering about this enchantment.l

Lucendar |

Caster4life: No to guided (sorry) and as for RP reasons, I am going to start game as you are invited to the banquet of a rising noble who has invited the most famous adventurers, so no need to come up with a reason why you would delve into the dungeon - that will come up naturally. More focus on what actions have you done that would bring you to the attention of the nobility.
Avoron: Exactly!

Is there room for a straight Cleric of Dezna? Travel/Exploration and Luck Domain/Subdomain. I like casters but it seems like you already have interest in the arcane arts.
If it helps, the mystic theurge I'm working on is a druid/wizard, so a cleric in the party certainly wouldn't go amiss!

This is caster here with the Inquisitor I'm working up. My animal companion would certainly love a real-frontliner for him to help out so JD's Dwarf sounds great.
I think I can cover trap duty pretty well and scouting.
Question: How do you handle monster knowledge rolls? Those are really important for me to select the right bane, judgment, etc. But I also don't want to slow the game down by delaying my first turn of every combat by making the roll then asking for information, waiting for your response, then taking my turn.

Lucendar,
Are spells limited to Core and APG?
The short answer to your question is “Yes”. If I may explain….I understand that limiting character creation to Paizo sources that existed prior to April 2011 (release date of the module) is frustrating given all the current options available. However, I just finished an epic 20+ level PbP as a player and frankly, due to all the options, I believe by the end-game, we outclassed the adversaries in the game (CR 24 creatures were dispatched in 2 rounds or less). Spell perfection is very broken! So in order to avoid that, I want to run the game as was intended without creating more work for myself. Hence, the reason for the 15 pt buy and limiting feats, spells, and classes to the sources available at the time. Hope that helps answer this and any future questions.

It's actually kind of fun, flipping through my physical books for once to see what's out there instead of just searching the archives.

The Tomb of the Iron Medusa with the books available at the time the module was released.
Is this to be taken literally, or is it just Core and RPG? I ask because I believe the Hellknight PRCs was published in one of the setting books from around 2011, and I think a Hellknight who ended up as a titled noble somewhere could be quite appropriate; they'd be obligated to answer invitations to that sort of party or risk offending their liege lords by failing to curry favor, and duty would force them to go through with it, but that doesn't neccesarily mean they enjoy that sort of thing.
Edit: Sorry to be a bother about this.

Limiting the source books is fine. I only asked so I know what to look through when picking my spells, etc.
I can't just pick from the spell list here. Core and APG have a pretty good part of that list!

Lucendar |

Groundhog: Actually, I meant it literally. The ISW, which contains the Hellknight PrC, was released in March 2011, so it is available.
Charlotte: Brief glance reveals Gloves of Elvenkind and Racial Trait for Spell Focus not allowed, as released after April 2011.
Nik: Good question and you are right about rogues, but going to have to say no to Unchained Classes.
Terance: I don't know if this link helps, but you can filter the spells by source, first PRG:CRB and then PRG:APG:

This is probably a stupid question but I look at certain magic items that I'm pretty sure have been around for a long time and they say ultimate equipment as their source. Are these items not core? I don't see any magic items listed as core or apg. Sorry for the noob question. I've only been playing PF for 2 years and always use online resources without thinking about source much besides paizo vs non-paizo.

My suggestion would be to find the magic item in the Archives of Nethys
http://archivesofnethys.com/Default.aspxAnd then look up source in Pathfinder Wiki to see what year it was released, if unknown
https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/
There are many items listed in both UE and CRB, so those are fine. If you have a specific example, let me know so I can help.

Oh, we can use anything that was published before April 2011? So just to make sure, that would include spells like infernal healing (Inner Sea World Guide, March 2011) and emergency force sphere (Cheliax, Empire of Devils, August 2009)?
And for Oric's sake, didn't Boon Companion first come out in Seekers of Secrets in October 2009?

Yes to all. I missed the Boon companion source. Good catch.

Lucendar |

I took boon companion over weapon focus but I think I'm not going to try to make my animal companion a front-liner. Too much investment for not enough pay-off. He'll just help me out with stuff, like flying around.
Hey Oric, looks good. I like the synergy of bonuses. A couple of comments:
1. Headband of Wisdom +4 costs 16K, not 12K.2. You get 3 attacks with RS and full-attack (the 1st attack has 2 arrows due to MS) and 4 attacks when under divine power.

Oric Lundarian |

Hmmm almost finished with my badass archer paladin, but just noticed your ranged inquisitor build there caster... And I think yours is probably better! Back to the drawing board, methinks.
Honestly, Oric would be perfectly happy having an Archer buddy. He has target of opportunity so if you hit someone he can too.
Thanks, GM! I'll keep working on getting things listed correctly. Still need to build my companion, finalize gear, etc. I'll let you know when I think I have it but I'm a big fan of the bonus feedback along the way!
I'm getting particularly excited about Oric's backstory. He's a very different character than my norm so this will be fun to write.
