48 posts in 16 hours. You guys are madmen.
Ruby loops in the sky, keeping a loose eye on the group. Seeing the beginnings of an ambush, she wings down to take a closer look.
I'm a non combat character. I'm going to hang out and watch. Once a round I can swoop in Aid Another. Basically, one person a round gets a +2 AC or Attack bonus.
Hemmings Halfshanks
Gnolls should still be flat-footed for purposes of sneak attack? Think so since they haven't acted in intiative yet, but some rule differently.
The rogue's attack deals extra damage anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and increases by 1d6 every two rogue levels thereafter. Should the rogue score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet.
With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (like a sap, whip, or an unarmed strike), a rogue can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual –4 penalty.
The rogue must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. A rogue cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment
His hands shaking with excitement over his first actual combat, Hemmings shot flies wide of the mark and he utters a little curse under his breath. He steadies himself takes deep breath and careful aim and fires again, at same target.
C'mon Baby: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Thunk: 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (3) = 4
Or not. Critical Fumbles? How do you play it?
Hemmings Halfshanks
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29sure now i get the 20...
Hemmings stumbles in his excitement but catchs himself before falling completely. Damn, missed again, he sighs. Glad that great wall of barbarian is out front...
He's struck with an idea...
He thinks, tyring to project to the dragon Ruby, can you be eyes in the sky for this fight and "think" it out to us? We don't want anyone sneakin' up on us while in this scrap
Ardamir
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Ok, so from what I'm following, I can take a move or standard action for the surprise round, and now I'm up? That's how I'll play it and if I'm wrong just let me know!
Ardamir will take a move action for the surprise round straight 30 ft.
For his 1st round action he will move over to flank the gnoll and attack.
Everything starts happening and Ardamir takes advantage of the surprise, running into the camp. When things settle for a second, he finds the first gnoll he can see, swinging his greatsword with a great arc he cries out the name of his god "For Iomedae!!!" Using Power Attack
Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 1 = 7
Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 + 2 = 15
A swing and a miss!
Locke Vernariah
Locke 'charges' in on his horse, scimitar in hand. He strikes down at the gnoll near him. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Scimitar Attack
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Scimitar Damage He connects with the gnolls body, making blood spurt from neck to chest.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Ride check to stay in saddle Success with riding with his knees.
GM Wolf
The massive gnoll howls ever so loudly, all the other gnolls seem to instantly respond to the call of the hunt. All of them growl and laugh, their eyes seem to have a reddish tint to them, the hair on their backs raise, hackling at you all. Ohhh dear goodness, they look riled up now! He also moves into combat.
One of the black hyenas leaps forward to try to take a big bite out of Ardamir. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 Bite attack
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Bite damage
Also it tries to trip Ardamir 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 Bite Trip Tripping Ardamir.
As the other one charges for Bug, leaping for his throat, instead getting a mouth full of Earth Breaker.
Vuvu
Vuvu glances around to see if the howl is bringing more beasts 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Seeing none he continues
Vuvu moves up, shaking another vial as he does and he launches it at the White Gnoll PB shot active
bomb vs touch1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 for 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10 [ooc] splash of 6 or 3 for the one next to him Ref of 15
IfHis vial flies wide it lands 1d8 ⇒ 1 directly in front of the White gnoll splashing on him and not the second one so he will need a refl of 15 or take 6 or 3 fire
Lecloront
|
"There's more coming from the back!" as he readies his bow and aim for the one rushing towards the barbarian.
I would assume that I have my bow already out since the DM said I made a ranged attack earlier.
Lecloront pours his concentration and aims for the head of the creature,
Ranged attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
In case I won't be active and you guys are waiting for my turn, feel free to bot me. Anyways, I will probably just stay in my spot and aim for the ones at the back. In case somethings sneaks up on me, or I can get a flank, I will shoot that one instead.
Bug Eater
assuming the gnoll in front of Bug is doing a pancake impression, he will move forward to engage the nearest one available from the map that appears to be north, assuming the map is up to date. Can't get to the big guy, so I'll engage a threat I can deal with.
to hit 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 damage 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (1, 6) + 10 = 17
GM Wolf
The gnoll that Vuvu has been targeting takes a swing at Locke's horse, then goes down in a ball of flames, screeching in its death throes!
The horse saves from the fiery blast taking minimal damage.
Lecloront takes great aim at the massive gnoll and shoots for its head, connecting solidly and even hitting its eye doing additional damage 1d6 ⇒ 1. Though the beast looks like it barely affects him being in its murderous rage.
Bug Eater charges forward and fails to do any real damage, just sliding the Earth Crusher off of the gnoll. You got his touch.
The two white hyenas charge in to get a bit of Ardimir as well, but will try in the next round.
The gnoll next to Bug fails to connect its battleaxe with Bug, as it whizzes by. As another gnoll joins him at hits hard doing 9 slashing damage to Bug's chest.
The two gnolls next to Locke both attempt to strike the horse, but due to Locke's manuvering of his horse and luck, neither strikes connect solidly.
New Round...
Bug Eater
OK, now the dog is in for it, rage time
Taking a harsh wound to the chest, Bug becomes enraged and swings at the gnoll with even more force than before.
"Arrrghh Die you dirty Dog!"
To hit 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 Damage 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (6, 3) + 13 = 22
Ardamir
That ought to do it!
Hemmings Halfshanks
Hemmings glides over to get a clearer field of fire towards the hyenas attacking the downed paladin. Once he gets a clear shot he stops and fires another arrow at one of the scavengers.
Move 5 squares West to clear the tree as Move Action. Fire shortbow as Standard Action. Do I take the "fire into Melee" penalty since Ardmir is so cleverly laying down? I'll roll it both ways...
With penalty: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16
w/o penalty: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
I think that hits either way, if not disregard below.
Hemmings lets out a grunt of approval as the small arrow finds a home in the hindquarter of one of the beasts. Hopefully it has distracted it somewhat from eating his armor-clad companion.
Xoruk Ironmaw
I'm going to hold my action until after Bug acts, because the only gnoll I can reach will be long dead before I get there. :3
Xoruk waits for the right moment, then charges past Bug and over the corpse of a slain gnoll to deliver a blow against its compatriot.
Charge action vs. Gnoll.
Staff of Bazur vs. Gnoll (Charge): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 + 2 = 19
Staff of Bazur damage vs. Gnoll): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
14 AC until the beginning of Xoruk's next turn.
Ruby, Captain Drake's Familiar
Ruby was momentarily confused by Hemming's request, then caught on, looking around for anything sneaking up on them or trying to get away.
She knew that her telepathy took some getting used to, so she didn't respond with anything more than a simple feeling of affirmation toward Hemmings to let him know that she had understood him.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Lecloront
|
As Lecloront moves in a little bit to get a clearer view, he saw the paladin being surrounded by hyenas. He didn't even think, he pulled the string and aimed at one of the hyenas,
Ranged attack on the hyena near Ardamir: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
"Hmmph, need to get a clearer view." he says as he tries to scour the surroundings for a vantage point.
I just put 0, so I won't cause confusion by shooting thru melee.
Hemmings Halfshanks
Hemmings is out of the melee and able to assess the field. "That big gnoll is a problem especially if he reaches His Lordship who's havin' trouble enough with them dogs"
GM Wolf
I don't have access to move any of the NPCs or PCs, so if someone can move them in conguntion with my comments that would be great!
The large gnoll will move forward while pulling his massive greataxe, standing behind his hyenas, growling all the way. Once there he lifts the greataxe above his head roaring again, stirring the hyenas and gnolls into a fury.
Locke will have his mount take a 5ft step closer to Ardamir, then dismount, to help distribute the attacks and attack the hyena if needed; or will stay mounted attack and command the horse to attack. It depends on Ardamir's actions.
Someone please move ruby behind Bug.
Bug Eater crushes the gnoll he attacks into the ground, blood splattering everywhere! someone please put a red square on one of the gnolls adjacent to Bug.
The gnoll next to bug swings and misses.

Ruby, Captain Drake's Familiar
Ruby makes another look, looking for the best place for the elf to fire from.
Ruby's mental voice echoes in the minds of the group.
Concentrate your attacks on the gnoll. One target at a time.
Swooping down to distract the dog-man, she hoped it would keep Bug Eater from taking another blow.
Aid Another. Bug gets +2 to AC until Ruby's next turn.
Bug Eater
OK, gotta clean up this last one here before I move to engage the big guy.
GRAAARRGGHH!
not a great speaker at moments like this
To Hit 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Damage 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (5, 6) + 13 = 24
GM Wolf
Ardamir is still grappled by one of the hyenas, he kicks at it hoping to free himself. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 CMB check
He fails and is still grappled. Locke will stay mounted attack with his scimitar and try to command the horse to attack the hyena. Locke hits the gnoll slashing it across its face, it falls, but the horse does not respond to Locke's urging.
The black hyena, who is grappling Ardamir continues to bite him .1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Bite Damage
The two white hyenas attack Locke being prompted by the Large gnoll, which is the only thing that makes sense. Both biting into the horses barding.
The gnoll next to Locke moves five feet to be adjacent to Vuvu, it attacks Locke with its spear and the spear deflects off Locke's armor.
Thank you Hemmings for being helpful, onto round 3, Bug is the only one to have done his turn for round 3, Hemmings you are up first, note that all hyenas and gnolls are 'raging' now. Ardamir you are classified as disabled with 0 hit points, you may take a full round action but you will take a point of damage, so just a move or standard.
Hemmings Halfshanks
Seeing Ardamir still on the ground with the hyenas ripping at him, Hemmings knew he had to do something drastic. Muttering a quick word to the Drunk God, he started in on his best yelling, screaming, and howling act, trying to draw the hyena's attention away from his wounded compatriot. "This is crazy, this is crazy, I don't even know this guy, why am I doing this..." he thought while acting the fool.
Move into the Fork in the road as Move action. Standard action - Suicidally act like a wildman, trying to draw attention, provoke AoO by my mates, and keep the damn Paladin alive through the first fight
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
GM Wolf
Due to Hemmings antics, the hyena tearing at Ardamir's leg stops, drops his leg and begins to move toward Hemmings. Though that is the only one that falls for your antics. !!!Attack of Opportunity for Ardamir!!! I have adjusted the map back to what it should be, if you do move it please hit the undo at the top, thank you.
Hemmings 23 x
Ardamir 19 waiting on your action
Big gnoll 17 looks to be swinging down that very large axe on Ardamir unless he moves away, then Locke
Locke 16 (actions waiting)
Black Hyena 15 (actions waiting) Will attack Hemmings
Lecloront 13
Xoruk 12
Vuvu 10 x
white hyensa 8 [both will attack nearest meatbag, not armor]
bug 7 x
gnoll with blue tag 5
Gnoll next to bug 4
At this point in combat the NPCs will wait for PCs to go first otherwise someone might be very dead.
Lecloront
|
If it would be considered flanking, I'll move 2 squares to the right, otherwise I will just stay in my spot.
"Hmmph, I don't have the luxury of missing this time." he mumbles to himself. In an instant, he took a step to the side and with quick reflexes, aimed the bow at the hyena that bit Ardamir.
Ranged Attack:1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
And I miss again...
I couldn't let that happen again, concentrate more Lecloront.
Ardamir
Sorry I've been out, I'm trying to figure out if I have a move or standard action before or after my AoO since you botted me and I failed miserably to get up. I'll just post two different things and take them as you choose.
Ardamir
Ardamir, trying one last time to get up before he slips into an unconscious state. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Don't know if that does it...
Ardamir
Almost forgot my AoO!
Ardamir, seeing an opportunity to fell one of the beasts that had caused him such a mortal wound. He gathers the strength to lift his greatsword, possibly for the last time...
Attack (from Prone?): 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 4 = 9
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
If I don't end up being prone due to my check just ignore the penalty, either way I don't know that it hits.
Hemmings Halfshanks
Vuvu not sure if you get a re-roll on that "to-hit" with your cane as it looks like your only rolled 1d2 instead of 1d20? LeCloront, flanking can only be done in melee (I checked too), so unless you want to move up into the fight, probably not
When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus if your opponent is threatened by another enemy character or creature on its opposite border or opposite corner.
Poor, poor Ardamir. We need that cleric to pull one out for us...
Hemmings Halfshanks
X- it is a little confusing. The action follows the intiative count laid out by Wolf above, but the posts are asynchronous in order to make maximum use of format. So Bug Eater has said he's going to smash the gnoll near you guys (and appears to do a good job of it), but that doesn't actually happen until his count which is after yours.
Unless I'm the one who is confused...
Post your action as if you didn't have foreknowledge of Bug's action. I bet GM Wolf will let him retcon if his opponent is already dead -- maybe even let him hold over his attack rolls?.
IMHO, it makes sense for you to disengage from the gnoll and turn to help Ardamir (or me...) based on Ruby's warning without being called meta-gaming, but that's your and GM's call
Xoruk Ironmaw
Xoruk strikes out again at the gnoll, an excited grin on his face. "Hahahaha! Yer end 'ill please th' spirits!" he cackles at the dog-like humanoid as he brings his weapon down in a wild swing.
Attack the gnoll (standard action).
Staff of Bazur vs. Gnoll: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Staff of Bazur damage vs. Gnoll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Stupid shoanti barbarian, orcdwarfs want to hit things with sticks, too. ;_;
Lecloront
|
I might get busy later so here's my next action. Since nobody is in melee with the big gnoll, I will just aim at that one for now.
Lecloront clears his mind of the previous misses and aimed for the gnoll. He lets go of the arrow hoping it finds its target.
Ranged attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Kept on missing, dice gods are really not in my favor.
GM Wolf
Ardamir, are you trying to do a Acrobatics check to not take attacks of opportunity from standing from prone? For you will take attacks of opportunity for standing up.
As Ardamir stands up a swirling blue light zips around him.
Vuvu Reroll
Hemmings is correct
Ardamir
Ardamir, feeling the touch of his goddess Iomedae resting upon him, cries out, "I do not believe you are finished with me! Give me the strength to vanquish my foes this day! Do not forget your servant!!"
GM Wolf
The large gnoll looks confused for a moment, then moves his sights to the armored individual on the horse. The massive gnoll swings with the ferocity of a charging dire boar, inflicting massive damage, Locke's saddle keeps him there but he is out cold.
Locke's horse can sense that its rider is in danger and takes the attack of opportunity for its rider as it attempts to flee back from where they have come... The massive gnoll takes the opportunity and swings straight down, over balancing and smashing the fine weapon into the ground. All of the other gnolls or hyenas are caught unaware of the quick action or miss thier AoOs. Vuvu and Lecloront may make an AoO if they wish with weapon in hand or a free hand to grab the free reigns...
The black Hyena quickly moves to lunge at Hemmings. Ardamir and Vuvu may make AoO, if not already done.
Lecloront shoots and misses once more. Xoruk swings and completely misses the gnoll, but distracts it enough, that Bug can swing straight into the path that it zigs...SMASH!!!
One of the white hyenas scurries up to Vuvu and attempts to snatch your leg with its muzzle, it catches are as Vuvu dodges back. The other white hyena quickly moves to Lecloront and lunges for your leg, taking a mouthful and tripping him as well. 5 piercing damage
The gnoll next to Vuvu strikes at you with its axe, scraping it along your strengthened skin. The Gnoll next to bug is on the ground bleeding and not moving.
Begin round 3....
Ardamir
Since Hemmings is taking his action on the other side of the map I'll post my action now.
Ardamir, feeling the renewed lease on life his god has given him and desiring nothing more than to give her an offering worthy of her stature, approaches the largest gnoll on the field.
Shouting out the name of his god once more, he lifts his greatsword and swings is with a fiery passion. "For Iomedae!" Power Attack
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 25
Damage: 2d6 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 15
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 16
Damage if hits: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 17
Finally, a descent roll!
Hemmings Halfshanks
Guess that's getting your second wind, Ardamir!
Hemmings sees the hyena charge him and reacts by dropping his bow and drawing his rapier. "Well what did you expect acting the madcap but to draw these dogs to ya", he thinks. He takes a defensive stance ready to dodge the hyena's trip/charge attack. While still protecting himself he takes a sideswipe at the creature. "Hey Bug," he yells "can ya bring that smasher this way?"
Drop bow Free Action, draw weapon Move Action, Fight Defensively Standard Action
Attack w/Penalty: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 4 = 8
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Because of his focus on defense, Hemmings poke at the hyena goes astray. He hopes his mates have better luck with what's left.
Lecloront
|
Lecloront still feeling guilty of missing the hyena which caused the paladin's fall, "I can't linger on that thought, there's still a battle to finish." Upon sensing the hyena's rage, he quickly stepped back and aimed for the hyena's head.
I'll take a 5-foot step away, I will end up 2 squares below Vuvu, sorry guys can't adjust when I'm at work. After that, I will do a ranged attack on the hyena. If I understand the rule right, I won't provoke AoO and I can still attack right?
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 I don't know if it hits but if it does,
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Xoruk Ironmaw
Xoruk turns after Bug strikes down the gnoll, stepping towards one of the hyenas and swinging at it with his staff. He grunts in exertion as he brings the weapon down in a mighty overhead smash.
5-foot step towards the hyena and attack it (standard action).
Staff of Bazur vs. Hyena: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Staff of Bazur damage vs. Hyena: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
