Jurgan |
Point taken but let's unleash it.
"When I awoke this day I did not think I would need to be fending off foul beasts with even fouler beasts inside of them. Alas I must do what I must do! Prepare yourselves!"
Quickly yet meticulously Jurgan begins to form a series of arcanic syllables manifesting the energy into a glowing red hot pebble. With next to no effort he hurls the pebble towards the middle of the wolves.

Well a nat on a save is better than a confirmed attack, atm by appearances.
The fireball burns, Cyan succumbs to the strain of its wounds and burns. Red stays in the fight a little longer.
Belegar moves up to Vaunu.

Alluriel |
Alluriel moves to give Vaunu flanking. "Pull Vaunu out of the way of that wolf!" Alluriel orders Belegar.
Double move, avoiding all AOOs
Suggest to use reposition combat maneuver after Vaunu attacks. So he can stand up next round without being in the wolf's threat range. I would have done it this round, except there's no space to stand where it might be done.
Vaunu Tarkkailija |
'Mary' I have Vaunu at 25 HP and - 6 dex, is that correct? Is he sickened this round?
Vaunu's eyes widen as he sees the fireball approaching, attempting to move he realized how much the parasites have slowed him down. "What the bloody? I move like a dwarf." Docging between the things paws he attempts to slash at the wolves legs again.

Shadow passes his fort, and approaches the wolf. Good kitty.
Vaunu frantically slashes at the wolf, the great beast standing over him.

Belegar (keeps up rage song)
Jurgan |
Jurgan nods appreciatively "Wayang your skill as a target is phenomenal. I will definitely leave this battle unscathed!"
Jurgan wriggles his fingers and then flicks his wrist sending a volley missiles from his fingers at the remaining wolf.

"If he was protecting your sorry dwarf hide you could at least show some appreciation instead of snark."Alluriel snaps back at Jurgan. "Now if we weren't here to keep the wolves off you, where would YOU be?!"
Jurgan |
"I what? I was praising him? Did I not compliment him on his martial prowess. If you weren't here? Hmmm I'd likely be studying some new theories on ignis magikae. I've been meaning to test them out. Is this really the time for this Lady Alluriel? The wayang needs some healing I think?" as much as it befuddles you the tone in Jurgan's voice is nothing but sincere.

Belegar swings for the wolf-thing.

What kind of auto-correct changes ‘snarl’ to ‘snark’?
Mary Dawnrose |
More arcane barrage ensues, when Jurgan points his finger at the dire wolf.
While the accompanying comment isn't well received, Belegar's attack surely is, as it hits a soft spot on the beast's head.
The dire wolf keels over from its injuries.
Combat over.
Missing fort roll Vaunu, 2nd & last save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

The worms' short lifespan has come to its conclusion, no longer bothering Vaunu.
Jurgan |
"Anatomy has never been my area of study. Did one of you want to look it over or shall we bring it back into town? The Council will likely reward us for this new information."
Alluriel |
Alluriel stabilize the farmhand, then, looks at the bodies of the wolves regretfully, "Who did this to these doggies...they had no choice attacking us...they were driven mad by the parasites..."
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Do I know what caused the infestation?
"I don't know if its a good idea to bring it back to town, unless we know that the parasites are dead - I'm not sure if they spread." Alluriel replies to Jurgans suggestion. "Do you know what might have caused the infestation, it might have a supernatural cause..."
Alluriel then begins to tap the farmhand and everyone else hurt in the battle with her wand of CLW.

Vaunu Tarkkailija |
Crawling out from under the direwolves carcass, Vaunu stands up and kicks the dead animal, "Doggies? these are no doggies! Doggies are nice friendly animals that let you ride them. All that's riding these things are those stupid parasites, that I think go in my leg." He points down at the dead worms laying in the open wound.
Realizing that Alluriel had asked for him not to disturb her, the stops squirming and stands quietly as she finishes healing him.
Once the oracle is done with her ministrations, Vaunu looks from Belegar to Jurgan, then points to the farmhand, "Wolves, worms and council aside, let's talk to him, see what he can tell us, yeah."
Alluriel |
"These are big doggies...they shouldn't have attacked us in the first place. " Alluriel says sorrowfully. "Usually wolves only attack humans if they're trying to protect something, or that they're hungry. Since this isn't the forest - they shouldn't have been trying to protect their den. Which means they would only attack if they were hungry."
"But I tried to feed them and it didn't work...I think the parasites made them rabid."
Alluriel reclaims her longspear.
If Necessary so he wakes up
Alluriel pokes the farmhand one more time with a CLW wand.

knowledge check ???: 1d20 ⇒ 12

Jurgan casts a minor divination detect magic and sees if the wolves radiate any magic.
Mary Dawnrose |
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Do I know what caused the infestation?
A little too low for a result, it's a mystery to you.
Jurgan's magic radar does give off a ping, namely the wolves' content of mouthes.
The magic vibe is similar to a vile summoning spell, which conjures flesh eating worms into a target.
The magical pattern must have been modified, since the wolves are unaffected by them.
Farmhand?: 1d100 ⇒ 97 Yup, he lived through the ordeal.
The farmhand slowly opens his eyes, needing a few moments to focus himself.
"The wolves are dead? What a relief..."
"We were busy in the fields, when those two rushed out of nowhere from the woodlands, right towards us, like a pair of attack dogs.

Alluriel |
My sympathies.
Also I thought this guy had another friend, who was also pulled off, then the third guy ran to us for help.
"Urm...well there was this guy who ran to us as we were at the hunter's lodge. Was that your friend?"
Mary Dawnrose |
At least i wasn't working in a warehouse and face a horde of ravenous shopping zombies. I work a temp job at a distribution center, but it's a seasonal increase in orders, so increased production that needs increased processing, etc.
"If he was wearing a plain green shirt and brown pants, then yes. He panicked and hid behind a barrel when the wolves got to me."
Yup, Frantic McPanic was wearing that.

"Common sense would see us head back the other way back to the carriage. However...we have stated we are here to help the people of this town. Let us head towards the woods where the farmer last spotted them maybe there are some tracks? Can your...hmm...companion track the wolves?"
Belegar Elberion |
"Bravely said," Belegar gives Jurgan a manly pat on the arm.
"These kind of beasts can be the demoralising vanguard of a larger threat. Let's meet the threat: take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them."
Alluriel |
"Yeah we met your friend. He came to us for help."Alluriel replies.
"Jurgan, that is a good idea." Alluriel nods approvingly. " Shadow, track where the wolves came from. " Alluriel commands.
Animal companion - Shadow |
Shadow obediently does as his mistress commands. He has the track trick
Take 10,17 survival
Take 10,15 perception
Also, if this applies:Creatures with the scent special quality have a +8 bonus on Perception checks made to detect a scent.
A creature with the scent ability can follow tracks by smell, making a Wisdom (or Survival) check to find or follow a track. The typical DC for a fresh trail is 10 (no matter what kind of surface holds the scent). This DC increases or decreases depending on how strong the quarry’s odor is, the number of creatures, and the age of the trail. For each hour that the trail is cold, the DC increases by 2.
Mary Dawnrose |
While Shadow doesn't understand the word 'wolf', Alluriel pointing at the dead dire wolf, along with the word 'track', Shadow gets the idea, and sniffs at the dead beast.
After that, Shadow turns head towards the woodlands, and takes off.
During the next two hours, Shadow leads you through the woods, until losing the scent at an old half-overgrown intersection of dirt roads.
Can i get another survival roll, DC 18 please.
Everyone, perception roll DC 20 please.
A vague sound of galloping....

The galloping eludes Jurgan and Vaunu, but as Alluriel and Belegar point out the sound, an eerie dark equine, ridden upon by a headless rider in leather, manifests in close proximity.
Headless horsemen haunt roads or bridges, though to what extend their haunting area is varies.
The only true means to destroy them is a holy weapon, it must be buried in the roadway, and then the haunt must be provoked during a full moon. The headless horseman is destroyed when it charges over the holy weapon.
I think you mean incorporeal.
The rider is very much looking incorporeal, semi-transparent actually.
Vaunu also approaches the rider, slashing his blade at it. Like with shadow, it does nothing bu hit air.
