Alluriel |
Alluriel purses her lips, "Did the kobolds give any indication of anything they might need? Each side not bothering each other may be one thing, but we don't want any hostilities to start."
"Sir Geoffry - we'd like to start with the house that the dissappearance occurred last night. The evidence would be still fresh." Alluriel tells Sir Geoffry.
Jurgan |
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Jurgan follows the others his attention fading in and out of the conversation. 'Kobolds? Neighbours? No wonder this town had people disappearing. Who knows what else is living herr with them?'
Agnar Ironbeard |
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
So, that is how its gonna be with my dice... hmm.
Mary Dawnrose |
At the latest victim's house's bedroom....
The interior is modest, a painting of a forest lake and scenery decorates the wall, and by the limited furniture, this person lived alone.
Through the bedroom window, you spot a hooded figure observing your presence, around the corner, about 50ft away.
Once they noticed you looking into his direction, they quickly went away.
The window opens outwards, but you see five points on the outer window -sill. To your hunch, they would indicate something, or someone, with sharp nails was on the outside.
When your investigation would be complete in this house, Sir Geoffry leads you to the town watch barracks, wherein he writes a small letter, that states that you five, mentioned by names, are authorize by the council to enter the houses of the missing citizens on your own.
"If anyone would ask why, orientation of housing, for a chance of settling down here, could be a plausible ruse. Or, you could come up with something, but make it credible."
The certificate now in your possession, he takes his leave.
"Best of luck, i hope that with your help, we can find a culprit sooner than later."
Alluriel |
"That would not be a lie, Sir Geoffry. This place looks like a good place to settle down." Alluriel answers.
"Now should we look for Melana?Alluriel suggests to the party. "Maybe she actually saw the culprit."
Alluriel |
I know - I was talking about future plans for my character. They might end up with a new witch...
"The rest of you may not, I may." Alluriel answers cryptically.
Jurgan |
"Hmm. Intriguing. Yes let us see what the others places yield. I have some theories but I must be presented with all the evidence." he adjusts his glasses ignoring the silly notions that anyone would ever want to live in this...hole. But he is smart to keep that thought to himself minus the smirk on his face when Alluriel mentions she might call this place home.
'Perhaps then I would not mention visiting. Hmm?'
Belegar Elberion |
Belegar shares a look with Agnar, then opens the window to get a better look at where they were being observed from.
”A hooded figure: we are being watched.”
Then he indicates the window ledge, ”Five points. Some kind of claw?”
Belegar Elberion |
”The obvious inference is that these attacks are, to some degree, planned in advance. Not the only possibility, but a good starting point.”
He looks around, ”What about this woman? Why was she chosen? Simple vulnerability?”
Vaunu Tarkkailija |
So the gist of exploring is the following.
If you follow a lead / explore a rumor location, you spend 1 day doing so.
So far you've gathered rumors on:
- The Stone Circle in the woods.
- The kobolds fortifying their 'claimed' cave.
- The estate lost in time.
- The witch in the woods.
- Wolf sightings.
Melena's grandmother is missing right? So that would be a location to gather evidence. I'm just trying to avoid one of the 'rumor locations' that will take a day until after we've gathered a little info on the missing persons.
Thinking for a moment, Vaunu asks "And what did the woman have in common with Melena's grandmother? We need more information." Vaunu looks to the others, "Who has the list of everyone that has gone missing? We need to begin to identify similarities and differences."
Alluriel |
"I didn't see anyone." Alluriel admits. "Did you see anything other then the hood? Did the figure have any distinguishing marks on him?"
Belegar Elberion |
"I didn't see anyone." Alluriel admits. "Did you see anything other then the hood? Did the figure have any distinguishing marks on him?"
”No, it was barely more than a glimpse, when it realised it was seen it disappeared. With the sun almost behind it, I can’t even be sure of the cloak’s colour.”
He snarls, ”at least, for now.”
Jurgan |

"We are being observed? Likely a fan. We are new in town word must have spread about."
Agnar Ironbeard |
'This blasted dwarf has me distracted, I didn't notice a tail.' Vaunu moves to the window, "I did not notice that we were being followed. A hooded figure you say?"
Around the corner, about 50ft away. He saw us looking in his direction and they quickly moved away.
Jurgan |
IF he is watching us he will show again. Better that we speak to this Melena now. She seems like an important piece to us finding out might be going on."
Mary Dawnrose |
Voting seems to be for visiting Melena.
Leaving the house, and a minor clue in mind, you walk back onto the square, from where you can see one side setting up stalls, which lead down another street as well.
At the corner opposite of the bend into the street, a wagon and an adjacent setup stall, stand in the shade of the rising sun.
A young woman, no older than 18 or 19, sits shuffling a deck of peculiar cards. A wooden board stands against the table, where nice looking charms hang on display.
A small music box, featuring a woman dancing, stands atop a small table next to the stall.
Alluriel |
"Hello Melena, could you perform a Harrow reading for me?" Alluriel goes to the square and approaches Melena.
I believe this is called icebreaking...after this then we'll offer her sympathies of her grandmother, and ask to speak to her in private regarding the incident. Sorry if I seem a little beat around the bush but I believe we were told to be discreet...
Mary Dawnrose |
Melena looks up at Alluriel.
"Good morning to you, miss.
Please, have a seat."
A soft cushioned seat stands ready.
"A general reading, i presume."
She shuffles the cards, and places 9 of them on the table.
I've never had one of these IRL before, so any details or doings being in err, you'll have to excuse me. ^^
1d2 ⇒ 1
Past 1: 1d20 ⇒ 9 Hermit.
Center present: 1d19 ⇒ 12 Death.
Future 3: 1d18 ⇒ 2 High priestess.
She turns the 1st, NW, over.
"For the past.
The The hermit.
Being at the start, it tells of your life having been on a searching path, often - but not always, wandering alone. You've found wisdom and confidence doing so."
She turns the 2nd, in due center, over.
"For the present time...oh dear. Death. Dangerous tidings are happening, and you are - or will be, in the midst of it. Be wary of signs of danger, or she'll come for you."
She turns the 3rd, SE, over.
"For the future.
Ah, an interesting one. The High priestess, she of many secrets and mysteries. In the coming times, you must trust your intuition. Head-on approaches might not be the best to take."
Alluriel |
The Hermit
"The Hermit?"Alluriel echoes. "I...well, Shadow and I have been together for a while."
"I've wandered - but not exactly...of choice. Well, the alternatives were worse."
Death
"She'll come for me? Lady Death?" Alluriel asks Melena. 'Ah-ha, the opportunity I was waiting for. "These are trying times," She speaks to Melena softly, "With people going missing and all that. I heard your grandmother was one of them - my heartfelt sympathies. We're actually investigating the disappearances - and we have reasons to suspect we are being watched. Anything you can tell us about the incident - I'm sorry if it is painful for you to recount it - will be helpful."
High Priestess
"We'll be sure to do so." Alluriel answers. "I'll need to speak to my companions about it too - do you happen to know anything about the kobolds?"
Mary Dawnrose |
Death card comment
Nah, Lady Death is not featured in this game. :)
Melena looks slightly sad wit the topic of her grandmother, but hears out Alluriel's replies 1st.
After which...
"I went inside to get some lamp oil for the lamp at the wagon's door. When i had it, i heard her utter just the words 'who are..' , and then when i got outside, she was gone. She's definitely seen someone.
The kobolds, i only know what i've heard the townsfolk speak of. They found a cave, and claimed it for their own, attacking any who comes close."
Vaunu Tarkkailija |
Vaunu, looks around to make sure no one from the town is near, and asks the young lady. "Was the wagon in this location when she was taken? Would you show us the location she was standing so we may carefully inspect it? Could you tell us what she was wearing; The color of cloths, any perfumed scents she preferred. Anything that may have differentiated her from others."
When Melena shows them the location, Vaunu takes as long as necessary to 'casually' inspect the area.
he will take 20 (32) on perception, I assume since he is trying to be discreet he will take twice as long as normal. So it may be a while.
Alluriel |
"We'll find her. Don't worry."Alluriel clasps Melena's hand, wanting to reassure the young woman. 'Hopefully I can keep my promise...'
"Did your grandmother have any enemies in town? Or anyone she may have offended?" Alluriel asks Melena.
Mary Dawnrose |
And only now do i see Agnar's ninja'ing of the harrow reading.
Melena looks at Vaunu with some astonishment.
"I'd think it impossible to smell anything anymore here. She disappeared 5 days ago.
However, at the time she was sitting near a rosemary scented candle. And she was sitting just 4 feet away, over there.", (points), She wore orange with dark green and a purple shawl."
To Alluriel:
"None."
Alluriel |
”I’m sorry about her being missing for 5 days.” ’That doesn’t bode well…its too long..’ Alluriel thinks to herself but tries not to let distress show on her face. ”Is there close family resemblance between both of you? Or how does she look like?”
”Would you know anything about Lillianne, or the witch living in the forest – or the estate lost in time? There was an old hunter who said you might be able to speak with the spirits of the dead?” The last question has a rather incredulous note, as if Alluriel cannot quite believe what she is saying.
Mary Dawnrose |
Melena smiles.
"Yes. Her genes passed along. Imagine me, grey hair, wrinkles, a slightly larger nose, but with sharp brown eyes."
"Lillianne, she's that wanderer council member, wasn't she? I've overheard she took to the woods due east, 3 days ago. Kids were talking, guessing she went either hunting again, or to visit a witch who supposedly lives there."
Melena seems somewhat uneasy by the question of speaking with the dead.
"That....that was my grandmother's expertise. Seance, we call it. To summon the spirit of one passed on, for conversation. I've never done it myself, only watched."
Alluriel |
"Ahh ok - sometimes the family resemblance isnt that obvious,"Alluriel gives a wry twist of her lips,"And her kidnappers could easily dress her in something else."
"Yeah she is - we might look her up, if she has seen or heard anything that might be capable of doing such a thing." Alluriel answers.
"I see. No matter - we'll do our best to find your grandmother."
After that, she takes leave of Melena, and speaks to the party, "I had earlier wanted to speak to the kobolds, but I have changed my mind. They don't seem to be very friendly, and it might spark more hostilities should we go seek them out in the caves, whether we know their language or not. And since they haven't really harmed anyone yet, I'd say we leave them be."
"I think we should look up the old hunter for on what his mentor knew about the estate lost in time, but I'm open to suggestions." Alluriel tells the party.
Jurgan |
Jurgan watches Agnar's dissatisfaction at the reading.
'At least we agree on this matter. Although for completely different reasons.'
"I am ready to go there if you wish."
'Nothing remotely interesting to support any facts here. Well let's see.'
Jurgan quickly begins to incant the easy cantrip and studies the corner sensing if any magic still radiates from there.
Cast Detect Magic. Start with corner and sweep room in circular pattern include the ceiling etc.
Mary Dawnrose |
And Jurgan senses some faint conjuration magic coming from some of the lights, illuminating the sign of a shop for arcane supplies.
Dancing lights.
For the moment, 4 types of potions of CL 1 can be purchased here, as well as 4 lvl 1 scrolls for your respective arcane class, which will be randomly rolled for, with the chance for one of a higher lvl, up to lvl 3.
They vary per day.
Likewise, this will be the case for divine items, which you can find at the temple.
And this system is an easter egg. ^^
Jurgan |
Jurgan nods with some satisfaction.
"Hmm. Let me see what arcane treasures your grandmother held.["
He waits for Melena to present the scrolls.
Jurgan |
Well you let the cat out of the bag.
Jurgan moves over to the other stalls looking for the magic he detected leaving the parlour tricks to the others.
'I'd have gotten more useful advice from the priest and his nonsensical prayers.'
Mary Dawnrose |
Meow? :3
Well every legit town has magical supplies for sale, with the base items for sale. As such i'm presenting said shop in advance, you'd be asking for one anyway, at some point.
The merchant will be absent on set days in the week.
1d100 ⇒ 25 No special items.
4d8 ⇒ (5, 6, 8, 6) = 25
1 evocation, 2 illusion, 1 transmutation.
4d5 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 5) = 11
4d8 ⇒ (7, 6, 2, 6) = 21
The scrolls available are:
Ear piercing scream, Alter musical Instrument, Clarion Call, Alter Winds.
The potions are:
Bed of iron, Blurred movement, Mage armor, Vanish.
But now i've really got to hit the sack. Very early rise for the coming three weeks.
Agnar Ironbeard |
First, I have to admit to being a little overwhelmed with choices and not understanding the fixed time requirement for attempting some of them. Second, since we have not yet made any money I doubt many of us have coin to purchase much, though Agnar could afford a single divine scroll. And third, as a divine caster Agnar has access to multiple divination type spells that might be helpful including Augury if we want to try that. He would have to memorize it for the next day. Unfortunately Divination is not yet available to him.
Mary Dawnrose |
I had not planned for a fixed time requirements for them, sorry if it feels overwhelming nonetheless. Some are in the same area, like the wolves and the witch's hut, in the eastern woods, for example. That leaves 4 directions to actually visit, upon your own choice of order.
2nd, you'll make money, don't worry about that.
Vaunu Tarkkailija |
Vaunu smiled at the young lady, "No miss, I am not intending to smell for her. I am trying to deduce what the victims had in common, and what they did not. Thank you for your answers and we will try and find your grandmother."
Turning to Alluriel "You said the hunters location was near by? shall we then?"
Belegar Elberion |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Belegar has been frowning and deep in thought all day.
Suddenly, he speaks, "The kobolds have disturbed some creature resting beneath the earth. Let's kill the little lizards and put this creature to rest."
Belegar shrugs and looks around the group.
Alluriel |
"What makes you think they have been disturbing something? What proof do you have?" Alluriel turns on Belegar. "You could say that the next person digging a well was also disturbing some creature resting beneath the earth."
"If they haven't been attacking townsfolk - we have no reason to bother them."
Agnar Ironbeard |
I am fer dealing with the kobolds as well. But they might not need killin, at least in mass. Lets not prejudge the situation.
Jurgan |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Jurgan returns to the conversation no longer interested in what the merchant has for sale.
"Kobolds? Degenerative little runts that are as close to as pest as moths in a library. Still they are waste of resources. Let us eradicate them only if we find no other avenue. The idea of walking their tunnels causes my nose to wrinkle more than even now." Jurgan not so subtly moves upwind of Vannu.
Agnar Ironbeard |
If your gonna nix a plan Jurgan, ya gotta suggest an alternative. Didn't your elders teach ya nothin?
Jurgan |
Jurgan raises his brow and looks at the dwarf with irritation. "It seems that you yourself was against attacking the kobolds. Did you offer another suggestion that I missed? As to my next choice we need to investigate the other disappearances in town. The situations outside the town are likely unrelated or of no concern to us right now. There was mention of the couple walking about or the farmhand. They all seem random but they must have something that ties them together. Does that suffice?"
