I am out for the night tonight (going to a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game). I will hopefully get a chance to post later tonight. I wanted to mention, as well, that you can add notes to the Google Slides maps. I have done an example for you. You can also move your token around, but I think that will be more useful when we are in combat.

No probs. I have been pretty busy this weekend myself so I have not been able to post as much.

I am pretty familiar with google drive since I use it at work everyday but thanks for the heads up. :) I'll need edit access before I can move anything around or make any comments but I'll just request access when I need it. As you said it will probably be more useful for combat anyways so I'll just continue to use the forum for any notes, questions or comments if thats cool.

I hadn't realized you don't have edit priviles. I'll get that sorted out later tonight.

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Yeah, for me to have edit access you would need my email address to invite me. Dont worry about it for now, I can just request access when I need it and you'll get an email with my request.

EDIT: Actually I just thought of something. You could make it publicly editable. We would risk others coming in and doing whatever they want as well though. Your call.

I just made anyone with the link able to edit. People that have the link will only really be able to get it by looking at our game - and I doubt they would mess with it ... worst case, it's not my only version of the information :)

Nice, sounds good.

The thread switched to the next page - just making sure you didn't miss my posts.

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Haha thanks, I actually did miss it for the first part of the day, finally saw it about an hour ago. Just writing my response now.

The site was down for a while so I wasnt able to post earlier. Just posted now.

So I did some reading over the weekend regarding dungeon crawls, specifically related to the Rogue in the party. Since this is one-on-one I dont think its as much of an issue but with a full party I assume things get bogged down by searching every room for traps and such, especially in PBP.

One thing I read was that some GM's will roll all of the trap checks for the Rogue before hand. This way, the party assumes that the Rogue is actively looking for traps and the GM simply makes mention of the ones that had a successful perception check when the party enters that specific room. "As you enter the dark corridor, you notice a trap about 5ft in." The Rogue would now go to disarm it. Traps that were not successfully perceived will simply catch the party off guard and do its damage as it would if the Rogue rolled badly anyways. The other option is now that the party has been caught off guard by the trap, get them to roll for dodging an arrow or grabbing an edge to avoid falling into a pitfall. This pretty much just eliminates a paranoid party from rolling perception checks for every single room, corridor and door that is within the dungeon. The party can continue onwards assuming the GM will let them know when they are successfully spotting things. I can definitely see how not every group would be not ok with this though.

Another more extreme thing I read about is the GM pre-rolling perception checks for searching rooms as well. One example would be rather than the party rolling to search a room for a hidden door that is essential to them moving forward, the GM would just preroll the timed search and convey the info. "As you enter the dark corridor, you notice a trap about 5ft in. Just behind the trap, you also spot an outline of what looks like a hidden door in the stone wall. It took you 10min to search the room for this." Any secrets that are not essential to the party moving forward would be handled with a perception check done right there and then. "As you enter the dark corridor, you notice a trap about 5ft in. Just behind the trap, you also spot an outline of what looks like a hidden door in the stone wall. Also, please roll a perception check." If the perception check is not a pass, so be it, they miss something cool but not necessary to the story. Perhaps it was another secret door that leads around a bunch of guards. Not essential to move forward but would have made things easier on the party. This makes me think of a few things when it comes to creating a dungeon. Do I want the party to find everything I have put in the dungeon? Are there things I want to make them work for? Now I can separate the things I want them to roll for from the things they should just automatically see.

I found these things interesting at the very least and I think I will take my own bits and pieces for when I create my own dungeons and start GM'ing again one day. I figured I'd share with you in case any of it is useful to you.

Very useful. Would you like me to roll your stuff for you as you enter each room? Not a bad idea, especially in PbP games.

We could assume I roll Perception, the normal version. If I find anything, I let you know. If not you still have the option of rolling the more detailed Perception. And if there is something game breaking/essential, then I will auto roll the longer one for you.

I can do that for sure.

Yeah I'm down, lets try this out. Only one way to find out if it works good or not. :D

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Friendly heads up, we are now on page 3 in gameplay. :D

Got it :) Fun!

Heads up back. I am not at work tomorrow - I will be out of town most of the day and night. If anything, I might be able to post really late EST. Then the weekend is also pretty full with daughter activities. So my posting will be sporadic, but I love doing this so much, I will try and post as often as I can :)

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Ok no probs. As usual, thanks for the heads up. Have a good weekend.

Just a heads up - I am in a hockey tournament this weekend and so will be away from computers for much of it. Hopefully we can get a few rounds in tomorrow while I am at work ;) :)

How are you enjoying the new "hand made" portion so far?

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Sounds good. Good luck!

Pretty cool so far. I am interested to see where things are going. :D

You saw my post in the gameplay thread right?

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Yep, thanks! Work has been crazy the past few weeks trying to get this big design finished so I have been heads down going hard on that. I'm gonna try and post in the next couple hours, just have to get through some meetings first.

What do you do for a living? I am an Accounting/Finance guy.

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Oh cool, I work with some finance guys. I am a Web / UX designer for a financial media company.

That sounds like a fun job. I have toyed with HTML/Java, etc. I find it fun, but don't take the time to practice what I have learned.

I have been thinking it would be fun to convert games like this "one on one" or "play your own adventure" into a web-based experience. I have been playing a game called "Lone Wolf Saga" on my phone - it brings me back to the days when, as a kid, I would read through the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books.

It's one of the reasons I have toyed with Web stuff.

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Yeah its fun for sure. Can be extremely stressful and annoying but every job has its days right? I was the same, just didnt take the time to learn more and get better so I decided to go to school. Got a good paying job right after graduating so I'm pretty lucky.

I also think about that stuff all the time. It would be tons of fun. Lone Wolf Saga looks pretty awesome, I'll have to check it out. I have at times thought of doing some sort of modern text rpg but of course time is always my problem.

Currently I am working on the small beginnings of a side project to get some extra experience, grow my portfolio and just have some fun. My buddy and I are essentially building a PBP dedicated forum community with a heavy focus on making it look good and adding features to bring a more visual experience. There a ton of PBP forums (including this very one) so we are pretty much just doing it for fun with very little expectation for it to grow into something huge. So far we have a landing page and are working on getting the actual forum up in the next few weeks. Where it goes from there, who knows.

Web design / development can be super fun. If you ever feel like changing things up its a fun industry to jump into.

Anyways, sorry for the wall of text. ;)

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

I was going to make a quick post before bed (been a busy day) but I'd rather put some more effort into it and post something better tomorrow. Sorry for the delay. I have been trying to finish renovating our camper for the past few weekends and getting it ready for the summer so time has been and issue for the weekends of late. Will definitely post something tomorrow.

No stress at all man! This is definitely a marathon, not a sprint, and I am enjoying this game a lot. I am actually still trying to work out how to fit all this new stuff together with the original pre-made. I have the general idea, but not all the details are finalized. I am torn between staying completely random and then pre-defining stuff. Being random has been really fun; I am just worried I am will end up so random that we'll eventually end up in a box or a corner I can't undo :)

We'll figure it out together.

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Page 4 heads up!

Heads up! I start a vacation tomorrow (today actually). Since I'll be at home and then traveling over the weekend, I don't know how much I will post. I have a feeling it will be way less than normal.

Bringing my daughter away for school, so we'll be kidless at home - a major change!

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Thanks for the heads up. No problem at all. I'll continue checking for updates during the week but might not be able to check as much on the weekend.

I am back now. Need a day or so to catch up, but I'll get to it as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience while I was away!

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Hey! Welcome back. :D

No problem at all, take your time.

I posted, by the way ...

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Ok great, I'll reply asap. Thanks!

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Just a heads up, I'll be gone for 4 days this up coming weekend so I wont be able to post.

OK thanks for the heads up. Things are a bit busy for me right now, so we'll do what we can this week and then pick up the pace again when you return. I still owe you a reply.

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

Alright, back from the long weekend. I'm good to go again.

Sorry I have been a little overwhelmed by work stuff these past few days. Hopefully I will get some time to update later tonight, but if not, then tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

All good, I find its also nice to take it a bit easier during the summer so no pressure.

The Gambling part of this adventure seems to be a bit of a hook, but the actual gambling game is a bit lame, in my opinion. Do you want to consider dropping the idea of the tournament and the gambling? As far as I can tell, it's just a hook, and doesn't do anything else. We'd have to re-think the timing aspects, but I just wanted to get your thoughts.

I am happy to continue doing things with the gambling in the way we were, however; it's just not exactly as fulfilling as I thought it would be.

Thoughts?

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

I'm fine to skip the gambling. If I lose a round I am out of the tourney anyways right? So we could literally just tip the dice in the favor of my next opponent and say I "lost", that way we can naturally progress past the whole gambling aspect. Besides, luck doesn't always smile upon Thorak...he'd be much richer if it did.

Sorry I have been so AFK on this. I am really busy with work and life, and I don't see that changing for about a month. Are you ok waiting that long? Or would you like to archive? I'm sorry - it's just unforeseen circumstances :(

Male Half-Orc Rogue/3, AC 17, Touch 14, Flat-footed 13, HP 16/24, Fort +1, Ref +8, Will +3, Init +4

All good, I totally get that. Luckily I am able to post during breaks or at lunch at work otherwise I would be too busy to post as well. I can wait, no problem. Maybe I'll PM you my personal email and you can just hit me up when you are good to go again. That way I dont have to check here everyday since I don't get notifications. ;)

Yeah sure. I just got your PM so I sent you an email. Let me know that you, as opposed to your spam filter, got the message!
