"Perhaps it will just turn you into a puppet," Remarks Lydia's umbral companion, who has been sticking around since summoned despite seeming as out of place as an Arshean performing devotions in the middle of a Kalistocratic business summit.

Um...why isn't Lydia casting a shadow of her own anymore?

"You have already entered one such bubble and returned safely, so I doubt it," says Skuroth. "But it is dangerous nonetheless. The bubble is a seed of evil, with the essence of the babau demon Ammoch at its center. Ammoch has great control over the world inside his bubble and has twisted it suit to his desires.”

"Greeeeeat." Lizbeth draws her sword. "Well, not time like the present, eh?"

A burst of protective energy flows from her sword, creating a magical barrier around Lizbeth that's shaped suspiciously like a samurai's helmet. A moment later the shield fades from view, little more than an odd distortion in the air. Casting shield on herself.

"Thanks," Lizbeth says, although whether she's talking to the owl or her sword is up for debate. She steps into the bubble, sword out and ready.

Inside the bubble, an unending forest of massive tree limbs stretches out into the darkness. A dark mist obscures the floor of the forest, hundreds of feet below, and a tangle of branches blots out any glimpse of the sky. Red boils cover the branches of the trees, throbbing ominously.

As Skuroth warned, Ammoch hid himself deep within the festering forest and laid many traps to bedevil intruders. Safely locating the babau requires finding Ammoch’s trail, avoiding his false trails, and evading his sentries. The details of each task and the associated skill check are provided below. Be sure to highlight the unsettling nature of the forest as the PCs attempt their checks to hunt Ammoch. Pulsating pustules cover the trees, strange shadows flit overhead, and an oppressive silence fills the air. For the Survival checks below, PCs can roll individually or aid each other on the checks, though each PC can roll only once.

You're trying to accomplish three goals here:

1) Finding Ammoch's Trail: Ammoch has been cultivating boils on the trees. Each cyst he removes leaves a scar on the tree which leaves a trail you can follow. Following Ammoch requires a successful Survival check.

2) Spotting Ammoch's false trails. Paranoid and crafty, Ammoch regularly creates false trails to disguise his true route. This is a much harder Survival check.

3) Avoiding Sentries: Ammoch created hundreds of eyeballs, held aloft by bat wings, which constantly circle through the forest looking for foes. Stalking the forest without being spotted requires each PC to succeed at a Stealth check (PCs cannot aid one another on these checks).

Decide how you wish to proceed.

looks like I am up

Angie swing his sword at the demon

Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22
dice + base attack + flank
Damage Slash: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Lydia: No, that's too much. You and Fomalhaut may take one turn now, not three. Confirm which you would like to take, please.

Felix and Angie Sen batter the DEMON Ammoch!

STATUS
Angie Sen - 22/25 hp
Ammoch - 34 damage
Felix - 10/17 hp
Lydia - 13/16 hp
(Fomalhaut) -
Lizbeth - -1/9 hp STABLE

Lydia, let me know what you'd like to do with one turn.

Semi-botting Lydia.

Lydia casts shield, while Fomalhaut threatens Ammoch, striking fear in the demon's black heart.

Bite and Shaken vs. Angie Sen: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 2 = 101d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Claw and Shaken vs. Fomalhaut: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 2 = 161d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Claw and Shaken vs. Fomalhaut: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 2 = 211d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

The demon strikes back, slashing the Shade across its nebulous chest.

STATUS
Angie Sen - 22/25 hp
Ammoch - 34 damage - FRIGHTENED
Felix - 10/17 hp
Lydia - 13/16 hp
(Fomalhaut) - 10/13 hp

Felix's falchion sweeps a bloody arc across Ammoch's midsection, disemboweling the horrid demon. It screams in agony before falling from the festering trees.

The air around you begins to waver and warp. With a faint popping sensation, you suddenly find yourselves standing within the soothing
trees of the Unbent Forest. Skuroth the owl spirit perches on a nearby tree and regards you approvingly.

"Yes, you are hunters after all. See how meekly he follows you."

Turning, you see the small and sniveling form of Ammoch, groveling before you.

Skuroth speaks again. "I apologize for underestimating you. Receive now thy due." Skuroth hands over a banner sewn to resemble watchful eyes as well as a pair of goggles decorated with owl motifs, including clusters of feathers over the eyes.

These are a knight's pennon (honor) and Eyes of the Owl.

"We should return now to Heaven's Shore and seek word of the third soul," says Akarah the lantern archon.
