"You're very good at that." Perem complimented Mr. Black as she continued to listen and look around for other people or concerns while giving Brass space to unlock the door.

With a click, Brass managed to pop the lock open. It wasn't too complicated - just enough to keep out the casual passerby who might test it. Nobody who actually knew what they were doing (and had tools) would be slowed for more than a few moments. Now, of course, you just had to decide how to enter...
If you don't want to be obvious, gimme some Stealth rolls for everyone entering, please. ^^ A result of 8 or less means you had to break some of the boards while entering.
Brass Avasa
Brass and Mr Black attempted to enter as carefully as possible, but neither would qualify as...Stealthy.

Perem did her best to sneak through quietly, trying to cautiously listen out for problems or people. She pressed her lips together and did her best not to comment on Mr. Black's subtle approach through...

As you quietly open the door and step inside, the first thing you notice is a hum filling the building. It's more than a noise - you can feel it in your teeth and bones.
Fort DC 12 (Brass): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Fort DC 12 (Perem): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
For Perem, it's much worse - you feel a splitting headache, almost like your brain is trying to cut itself in half and squeeze out your ears.
Perem Merritt
Need to tell my characters they don't need sympathy pains for me...and Perem had only just got that +1 to Perception XD
Perem grabbed at her head, whimpering sadly as she tried desperately to drown out the horrible noise and what it was doing to her brains.
Brass Avasa
Brass turned to look at Perem for a moment, obviously worried by the unexpected events. Some kind of sonic weapon? She pulled the Aeria Gloris and began to scan the area, hoping to see a source. She really hoped it wasn't some exposed section of the place below, near enough to the surface that the malfunctioning machinery was affected the town. If it was that it might get worse.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
GM Rednal
Looking around, the warehouse seemed quiet - but there was nothing that stuck out as the source of the hum that continued to permeate your bodies. Perem, in particular, was acutely aware of the way it wasn't getting any better. You could, however, see some catwalks up above - and numerous boxes piled throughout the building.
Brass Avasa
Brass tapped Perem on the shoulder. "We need to find out that's doing this, if you feel up to it. If you don't wait outside with Eir and Black and I will hunt down the problem."
Perem Merritt
Perem shifted back a few steps, still holding her head as she shook it, "Want... to help..." she said with gritted teeth.
Brass Avasa
Brass nodded, supporting Perem as best she could while they moved deeper into the stupid building with its stupid noise.

Perem went along quietly, trying to keep her eyes out for the source of the pain-inducing racket or any signs of people while she held her head.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 19

As you crept forward, Perem glanced around, then glanced up - just in time to see a pair of figures on the catwalks above. The one she was looking at twitched slightly, then clenched their fists and prepared to jump!
Init (Enemies): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Init (Brass): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Perem was - perhaps as a result of seeing them - a bit faster off the mark.
Brass Avasa
Brass looked up in confusion at the strange people about to attack.
Perem Merritt
The noise, the pain, it made it so hard to come up with something clever and on instinct, Perem grabbed her rapier and tried to throw a blast at whoever was jumping at them.
Destructive Blast: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
She wasn't able to control the large blast that came out of her hands very well. Not surprising with that racket. Maybe it could go wander off and make it stop...but Perem didn't tend to have that kind of luck.
GM Rednal
The two figures landed on either side of Perem as they jumped off the top floor - no worse for wear after her blast - and they quickly began punching out at her.

Somewhat surprisingly, both of them managed to land blows on her - although it was a long ways from knocking her unconscious.
Brass Avasa
"Nope," Brass replied as they attacked Perem, moving to flank with the Oracle as she did. "You really need to stand down if you don't want to get hurt."
To hit (Flanking): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 12

Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Perem cried out at the hits, shifting back, unhappy with the noise and unhappier with the people who hit her. Perem drew her both her swords to defend herself, hitting out with one as she tried to watch them...

Brass' strike missed - Mr. Black's didn't. It wasn't enough to knock out the thug, but Perem's followup strike was. The reply, however, didn't come from the other thug on the ground.
"I think you're the one who needs to stand down!" Another thug(?) said as he and another companion leaped down from the rafters and landed on either side.

Brass raised her weapon. "We were asked to come investigate the weirdness in this building when you guys jumped us. If you're here for the same, then lower your weapons." Preferably before someone got mauled to death.
Perem Merritt
Perem looked at the newly arrived people, watching them as Brass spoke first, "Joram sent us..." she seconded, motioning towards her large iron symbol of Brigh, "I can heal wounded some if you stand down...but seriously...do you know what is with that noise?" she said, still uncomfortable with the noise and stood with her swords up in a defensive position.

At Perem's question, the thugs just laughed. "Well, maybe it wouldn't bother you if you were tough enough to handle it." one of them said... and they didn't seem inclined to halt their attack.

Perem tilted her head as if considering that as she easily dodged the incoming attack and countered with a strike of both swords...

"Wrong answer," Brass replied cheerfully, swinging her own blade.

Perem managed to hit with her rapier, but it wasn't enough to knock the thug out. Brass also missed - though Mr. Black managed to club one of the others, and you heard a definite grunt of pain before they continued the attack. "You... don't get to decide that, b*tch!"

Perem shifted out of the way easily, though not as smoothly as before, while she once considered again and hit out at the rude attackers...

She could say that it wasn't much of answer as it neither answered the question nor an accusation that could currently be tested but instead she just stared at them, one brown one grey eye watched quietly.
Brass Avasa
"We do if we win," Brass replied cheerfully, shrugging off the damage for now.

This time, Perem managed to knock out her target. Brass wounded hers - Mr. Black, alas, only managed to slam someone with his first blow and knock the wind out of them as they pressed the assault.

Spitting blood to the side to clear her mouth, Brass nodded. "Nicely done, Mr Black. That certainly ends that argument." Brass tied the pair up with some rope to make sure they didn't cause any more problems.
Perem Merritt
"Thank you for your help, Mr. Black" Perem said, trying to sound cheerfully grateful while the pain pounded in her head and drained her usual enthusiasm.
She put away her rapier, glanced to the inconscious around them before turning her attention back to Brass again, "Let's try to patch you up..." she said before she tried to cast again.

With the thugs out of your way, you were able to start looking around more carefully. Most of the crates were empty, and clearly there just for show. Eventually, however, you managed to follow Perem's headaches and open a box - inside of it was a large, strange-looking technological device. It was clearly active, but it wasn't at all clear what it was doing.
Brass Avasa
Strethcing as the healing power restored her health - and made her feel sick as a dog - Brass looked at the strange device in a box. "Step one, turn it off. If we can't then Mr Black can do it." Mostly, admittedly, by crushing it between two shovel like hands. Brass would prefer to take it intact enough to understand.
Knowledge (Engineering): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Perem peered into box at the odd machinery and did her best to push past her headache to help Brass turn the thing off before Mr. Black needed to smash it...it was a tiny bit tempting but she'd rather test it properly and not in pieces.

Brass nodded. "We can always ask our sleepy new friends if we can't work it out, I suppose."

As far as you can tell, it seems to be some sort of power transmission device - acquiring energy from one place and probably sending it somewhere else (for a device that can gain power remotely). It is, more importantly, far more advanced than anything the people in this town have ever been able to create. More likely, it's something from under Black Hill.
Brass Avasa
"Impressive," Brass murmured as she examined it. "I wonder what kind of range it has? But I bet it shouldn't be making that noise. Maybe the part to dampen the sound is missing, or broken?" She resisted the urge to poke. "Shall we ask our new friends why they've brought us such a nice present?"
Perem Merritt
Perem considered before replying, "I'm more wondering where they got it from and how they got it here...though I'm not sure if they'll tell us, but if you want to try or we maybe we could ask Joram or one of the others to come have a look...". She clearly did not think the rude people would know much about it as the apprentice continued to look it over.
Brass Avasa
Nodding, Blink moved over and nudged one of the attackers awake,if the battering wasn't too severe. "Don't suppose you'd tell us the 'why' behind why you have a power transmitter?"
Perem Merritt
"Such an advanced device could be dangerous, a threat to Torch and elsewhere, if you have evidence to the contrary, giving it would make moving on possible..." the cavalier said matter-of-factly. She was duty-bound to bear any such regrets if this unknown item put society at risk as she was bearing the remnants of the headaches - beyond that would be on a more case-by-case basis.

Brass knew she wasn't diplomatic. Somehow she didn't think laughing and saying 'no' would help the situation, though, so she kept stum.
Brass Avasa
"You know what the natural way to transmit power is? Heat. Fire can be a problem, if it isn't controlled. And ever see a bolt of lightning do good things to a person?" Brass nodded to the box. "Betcha it wasn't meant to make that noise. Means something's going wrong. And, personally, I don't wanna be around if it starts making thunderclaps."
Perem Merritt
"While this warehouse does give good sound-proofing, when testing a device that you don't fully know what it does, it needs to be taken far away from towns or you put people at risk. I doubt most would make a device this advanced just to hum - nor take a humming device this big and carry it all that way..." Perem said with a raised eyebrow over her goggles before returning her gaze to the device.
