Ah..is her DC that high on tier 1-2?
Sorry, as the the diplomacy table's sort of a thing i've had to memorize while GM'ing myself, and her not being hostile or explicitly unfriendly, i figured 22 and some aid would likely convince her.

I was about to ask, could you reasonably take 10 on diplomacy. Cause usually failure in that means things go south fast XD, and taking 10 implies your willing to take a few failures. Also taking 10 in most skills means you take 10 minutes incase no one was aware. So taking 10 in a time sensitive mission like this is actually a very bad idea.

Not quite. That would be take 20, which takes 2 minutes.
Take 10 is taking an average, as long as nothing distracts you.
I wasn't aware of take 10 on social rolls until a short while ago.
Of course, it can vary on a case by case basis, GM's discretion.
An example i read of, was take 10 for gathering rumors, not dangerous, a positive.
Trying to solve a hostage situation, go roll for it.

Hello everybody, the whole cypher game is very much flavor for Grand Lodge and even I as a mathematician sometimes do not like to puzzle. ;-) So you can also just provide the encryption algorithm to the Venture Captain and its fine. But go for it if you want to try! ;-)

I thought that post said Lady Morilla gave the info to Sovereign Court (i.e. me) and certainly not Grand Lodge agents! she would shoot herself in the foot with the Decemvirate! lol

Wasn't able to get to my PC or phone for most of the day yesterday because of local PFS. For those who haven't played it, Oath of the Overwached is a fun scenario!

Guys, you are almost through the door! :-) As I will be on a vacation starting tomorrow evening and will have limited internet access in the wilderness I would like to wrap up the game until then!
So let us go through everything that is of interest to you today and tomorrow!
Not even three weeks and we are done. You did great!
Zzorn

I agree! let's wrap up today! let's not take anything out of the library for Faction Card goals please: there's plenty of ways to sign off on those goals without undoing all the careful things we did in this module (remember that we took the pain to put back everything the way it was up to now)

With some voices seemingly concerned, i'll be frank here.
Back when i purchased season 5 via a humble bundle sale, (january last year or so) i skimmed through a few missions. This one was one of them, and i think my faction was connected to the chronicle, if i took something from here?
Which would kill 2 birds with 1 stone for Alice.
If there's too much IC sentiment on skipping it, i'll do with recruiting the scholar, since a named text won't then be achievable.
We had an invisibility potion, didn't we?
| GM Nowruz |
Alice, it is your decision! And Zzorn is speaking out of character so if you want to take the journal please take the journal! If nobody that sensed your motive says something all is fine.
And even if they say something and you do not take the journal you still have your blind caretaker although I have to say that this will be very difficult as her son and husband's safety is at stake as well.
Play your characters the way you want. ;-)

Sorry to be the stick in the mud here, but I have to disagree: Faction Card goals should not endanger the overall mission and affect the rest of the characters at the table. Especially for older scenarios that were not written to account for Faction Card goals back then. This is a stealth, 'don't steal any books' mission, and in or out of character I would not be very happy if one member of the team blows it for the rest of us. I think the GM is being very accommodating already, and you know that our characters cannot PvP. So what will our PCs' option be if they catch you and you go on with this? they can't restrain you, so either they'll ignore your theft which can lead to mission fail or turn you in to the authorities (depending on alignment). Any way you look at it, your PC becomes the scapegoat for the Pathfinder Society's break into this library. Think about it: ban of PvP can actually result in worse things.
Also, 'recruiting an NPC' doesn't mean he's leaving everything behind and will follow the PC the way the apostles dropped everything to follow Jesus. It just means you're having a chat with the NPC and sold the NPC on helping the Dark Archives. In fact, makes more sense for those NPCs to remain embedded in their respective organizations!
| GM Nowruz |
I am just saying that you should discuss this in-character ... I provided options for you to solve this as a team. :-)
And this is roleplaying ... each of you has a concept in mind and this can also lead to frictions.
I would rather see you fight a verbal battle in-character and disagree to the point that your characters never want to go on a mission with each other again than just ignoring potential disputes because of our out-of-character fears of the consequences the author of the adventure has designed for us.
:-D

I quite like Alice's interactions with Zzorn, and Zzorn would love to adventure again with the same group and same GM actually! (which leads me to this: can you run us through something else soon? :) )
The whole point to my rant was that you already told Alice she can only check off one Faction Card goal per adventure, and that I find the recruitment of Illiana very fitting for a Dark Archives character: essentially, she just gained a contact that can go in and out of the library with whatever info Alice would want. In the long run I'd make sure her eyesight is restored as she would improve her reading/copying performance. Etc.
Zzorn
|
...in fact gaining Illyana as a contact in the library is so freaggin' sweet that Zzorn might change his faction goal to that if it's on the Sovereign Court list... [checking... checking...]
Zzorn
|
Dammit! you're lucky you settled on Illyana! I have THREE FACTION GOALS that require interactions with NPCs!! O_O
@GM: do you think I can fulfill the following goal by copying some juicy info in B12?
"Recover blackmail or incriminating evidence against a named NPC ambassador, aristocrat, noble, or similar figure."
-->Lines of Succession directly incriminates the efforts of Grand Prince Stavian III and Earl Calhadion Vernisant in that they can no longer commit atrocities under the pretense that they are putting down 'rebellious or treasonous' elements within the Senate. Lines of Succession shows a precedent in that the nation can at times choose other heirs than the Grand Prince's son.
Zzorn

Yes, I'll check "Recover" instead of the one that's "lion blade / ulfen guard"
Lynn Kuro

I think I can only take the adventure outside of absalom but then i believe i'll have to take my 3 consecutive primary/secondary successes on my next one :/ Do we have to report our goals in each scenario we complete? Not exactly sure how the cards work.

It's pretty much an honor system type of ruling. Easy enough to have GMs write on the chronicles as to which box the player wanted to fill out, while the player checks off the wanted box on their card, which is the easiest way to track in my opinion.
