Yon Li'l |
Yon searches through some of the piles with a cursory glance...
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Ignoring most of it as junk and metal waste.
"Aggriver's right, whoever made the metal men won't likely be happy to see us and not them. Though maybe if they're clever enough to build such, they can be convicted to let us go without too much trouble, and build some new ones, maybe showing you guys how they were made."
Yon steps up beside Aggy.
"It could be, since it's more machines, we're close to the one who built the god box."
Vala Tinkersmith |
After taking a look at the parts on the floor Vala goes to look at the red lever then moves to the door. She gives it a check, but her mind is clearly on other things.
"So, the red lever there. I wonder if it controls the same door as the other lever. Or does each lever control its own door? But then why two colors? I suspect we'll find out soon.." She thinks, as she gives the nod to open the door - if she suspects it not to be trapped.
Agriver Rall |
Agriver nods back at Vala and takes a deep breath as if expecting explosions or something worse.
With that he opens the door.
GM..Kashka |
Agriver opens the door, revealing a passage way that turns right. Vala notices as she passes the same seams in the wall indicating one of the turn styles.
A short way further, Agriver hits a dead end with a bronze wall.
Vala Tinkersmith |
Vala follows Agriver murmuring a late response to Yon as she walks, her brain so busy cycling through thoughts that she finally caught up with real time "I somehow doubt the makers will be willing to chat if they set the creatures to attack on sight... that is if they are controlled. I mean, if someone could build one to do as it pleases..."
She trails off in thought again.
As they get to the dead end "As I suspected. I'll head back and try that lever in that last room. Best position yourselves accordingly." She announces to the group, then thinks a moment. "Might want to stand around the corner in case something is right on the other side. Not to see you right away. But then again. If the stone turns I'm sure whatever it is could assume someone's there... Yeah.. Let's try not to get separated. Any ideas?"
She begins walking back to the lever murmuring "I wonder how much force is required to move these stones..."
Ansel Meadsodden |
Ansel follows Vala out of the hallway. "Let's not get anyone caught in the dog-leg now.. Everyone out, pull the lever, maybe we can go to the left." He tries to not make eye contact with either of the wolves as he mentions dog-leg, just in case they understood common somehow.
Agriver Rall |
Nodding at Vala and Ansel and thinking better of challenging any of their thinking the paladin follows suite.
"Unsure how you two understand all this, but I am glad you are on this righteous quest with me."
Agriver stands at the ready.
GM..Kashka |
Vala pulls the red level to its middle position, and the party watches the turnstyle rotate clockwise. It comes to a rest with a bronze wall facing the group before Vala pulls the lever all the way up and the wall rotates again to reveal a passage left.
Ansel Meadsodden |
As the mechanism comes to a hault for a second time, revealing the passage to the left, Ansel nudges the Paladin with his hamner and gives him a nod.
"And likewise, I'll uh, be right behind you.."
The dwarf then turns to his other fellow adventurers, "Once this guy runs out of steam we'll need to test these things thoroughly, still have no idea what that black lever does or what that dead-end is about the otherside."
Agriver Rall |
"Of course Ansel, the way is clear - may the goddess guide us and fill our heart with zeal. Let me be the shield."
Pulling his blade off his pauldron, Agriver advances through the corridor at the ready.
Vala Tinkersmith |
Vala follows in step just behind Agriver "Shield. Yes." She looks over his shoulder checking for traps as he progresses.
As she walks she adds to her mental list
"Red 2: mid - block. Up left. Down right.
As she rehearses:
Red 1: Up left. Down Right
Black 1: Up, down, mid - no noticeable change
We Left B1 in mid. R1 in right - in case anyone else changes that...
Still need to go back to the R1 Up-Left passage aaaand R2 Down, right - passage blocked. Investigate further."
"Awe F*!@" She mumbles under her breath "Hold up just a sec." She says, pointedly not looking at Ansel as she pulls a small sheet from her Cartography kit and sketches a quick map of where her R1, B1, R2 are located, with little notes of R1UpL, R1DownR. R2UpL, R2DownR. A circle around R1UpL and R2DownRight meaning to go back there. And a question mark next to B1.
Robin L'il |
Robin just sits back and watches it all happen..
GM..Kashka |
Agriver steps through the passage to a ten by ten landing in front of a double door. the hallway passage continues to the right.
Yon Li'l |
Yon watches. Vala is a rather animated thinker, though he can't decipher what she's thinking, her animated behavior matches Ansel's. The pair seem at home with the current puzzles presented by the spire.
In turn he thinks upon the unnatural that continues to manifest the further down they go. He ponders what could possibly live this far below and without the sun. Without flowing water.
This all passes through his mind in the blink of an eye, before he takes a step following Agriver's.
Agriver Rall |
Walking up to the double doors he turns his head toward Vala and waits for her to give the all clear. While he waits he tightens the straps on his gauntlets to try to clear some of the nervous energy.
Vala Tinkersmith |
As they walk through the turn part of the passage Vala will scribble an "R" in the corner with a little '2' under it with an even smaller question mark next to it. "I wonder if all the reds are connected.."
Ansel Meadsodden |
Walking into the small room Ansel stops abruptly. This is nothing like what I expected.
"All right, this is getting complicated enough that we need to start compiling a map." He muses out loud as he scratches his beard. "Feel free to open this last door if ya two wish, I'll take a break after this to get everything we've discovered documented and drawn. The systems of levers and gears within these walls must be impressive... perhaps we can get a look into how one of these carousals works.." Ansel drifts off into daydreams of how he'd solve the engineering puzzle while the door is inspected and opened, snapping out of it as the next area is revealed or if the party decides to cease their charge deeper into the current floor.
Agriver Rall |
"Open which door? The single in the narrow bend? Or the double doors to the south?"
Ansel Meadsodden |
Ansel gives Agriver a blank stare and then glances around the bend. "I'll be, didn't notice the second. Whatever you wish, but I was refering to the larger double doors ahead of us."
GM..Kashka |
there's only the double door.... the passage continues to the right around the corner
Vala Tinkersmith |
Vala goes forward and checks the door for traps and takes a look about the room and down the hall just to the corner taking a peak around it.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Agriver Rall |
my bad folks
Agriver nods at Ansel and gives pause as he looks at Vala hoping she already checked for traps. With a shrug and a silent murmur to his deity, the paladin opens the door and moves into the room beyond.
GM..Kashka |
Vala checks the door and finds no traps. She turns the corner of what appears to be another turnstyle to find a solid, curved stone wall.
Meanwhile... Agriver opens the door...
This chamber seems to be the origin of the ticking sounds heard elsewhere. A heavy brass housing in the middle of the room covers a clockwork arrangement of gears and cogs, that clank loudly as they slowly move. Revolving camshafts and rocker mechanisms extend from the housing to various points in the ceiling, driving unseen mechanisms.
The room also seems to serve as a workshop. Nine alcoves contain unfinished automatons in various stages of assembly. A panel with a red lever and a black lever is set in a curved wall at the west end of the room, and doors lead east and north.
A tall man.. half plated in gold stands beyond an emerald colored automaton. “I have visitors, it seems! Yet I do not recall inviting you. Explain yourselves!”
Robin L'il |
Robin waits for the more diplomatic of his party to respond.
Yon Li'l |
Yon intones in Tower-Born, "Appologies for the unannounced entrance, Sir, we are Pathfinders, exploring this ancient spire. We have received various welcomes above, and hope you are amongst those more peaceable in greeting. Though I may be regretful in telling you we did dispatch those machinations which attacked us on sight. If those were your creations you have my further apologies."
Diplo +3: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Agriver Rall |
Agriver watches Yon speak like one of the Talden folks he knows and raises his eyebrows.
"My companion is correct sir. We would very much rather have a peaceful exploration of these ruins than one of violence. Our equipment is out of necessity unfortunately. Will you allow us safe passage in what I assume is your workshop? If we are un-attacked and the denizens of this area are untainted by darkness, you have my word they will not see our steel."
Diplomacy to Aid Yon the Super Druid: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Ansel Meadsodden |
Ansel stops in the room as the man speaks to let the others proceed, this is not his area of expertise. He figets with his warhammer's handle, holding it upside down with the head resting on his right foot.
Diplo aid: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
"Be willing to aid in any repairs as well, caused by our self defense." he adds honestly.
GM..Kashka |
The gold-plated man seems interested until the words untainted spew forth from the Paladin's mouth...
"tainted..." he says as he casts a spell.
Damage: 3d6 + 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 5) + (6, 1) + 3 = 22 15 bludgeoning, 7 cold

Robin and Ayame double move out of the cloud, into the room. 'I could even throw the lever, and rotate the passage once they are all through.' Robin thinks as he hurries back.

Agriver hears Robin move away with the wolf on his heels. Looking at Yon with a sense of urgency he yells. "Get them out!"

"Both doors shut, let's move!" he growls in Azlanti. "Why doesn't anyone go for the peaceful option?!"

Ansel shuffles ten feet back towards where they came until he emerges from the gas cloud by Yon. "Right?! What happened?! We were talking about construct engineering and then BAM all he's got?"
