Woot woot for making it in! I'll do a proper hello once I am back at the computer and off the phone.

My stats will be adjusted to the 20pt build as well when I'm there.

Well, since I'm the first one here, guess I'll introduce myself now that my stats are all properly adjusted.

I'm KingHotTrash and I've been a roleplayer for over a decade now; started with tabletop gaming back in high school and delved into HTML chat sites to feed my creative cravings. I've played all manner and styles of games, including Pathfinder, and I've ran quite a few games myself in real life with friends, family, and strangers. I game quite a bit on the weekends but I adore the in-depth nature you can get with play by post gaming. I enjoy challenging myself to write better every time and to rise to the skill of my fellow players and GM.

My character for this game is Krios Dinrulsis, an elf who has lived most of his life here within Sandpoint. His father, Anlis (a half-elf), is a simple farmer outside of town who has a dark past and taught his only son the tricks of the trade to be an exceptional rogue. Krios's mother, a very kind and beautiful elven woman by the name of Teama, was murdered by the Chopper years ago during his awful killing spree.

Any other natives know that Krios arrived in Sandpoint about 90 years ago, his family travelling from Magnimar and settling quietly outside of town. Unknown to most, his father was a member of the Scarzni and fled the life of crime to live happily with his newfound love. That required a few betrayals and the Scarzni are not ones to forget such actions.

The rogue is a friendly, albeit standoffish, resident. He is not cruel, loves telling and hearing new stories, and is fascinated by any elves he comes across since he is not involved in their culture by any means. He'll be the sharp eyes of the group and an excellent front line supporter with flanking and two-weapon fighting with sneak attack. I don't plan on him splitting from the Unchained Rogue path and as he grows, his versatility and lethality will grow as well.

Super excited to play with you all, whoever you all will be, and I look forward to the adventure at hand. If anyone wants to have known Krios before the events of the campaign occur, just let me know and I'll be more than happy to conspire with you!

Thank you again Dak for the selection, looking forward to it!

hello all, Noro here.

looks like now two of us are Sandpoint natives.

Ktios, I was reading your background... definitely looks like Noro will be well known to you. as you and Noro's brother a vying for the affections of the same girl.

Noro's brother is the cook at the Rusty Dragon and Noro spends lots of her time there, she treats the tavern like its her second home, sometimes moving about the place like she is an employee.

Hey all, your friendly, if not completely sane, cleric of Nethys has arrived. My full stat block is in my profile. I'll fill out the usual mini stat block stuff tomorrow at work. Mechanically, I'll be the party's divine support. With the Evangelist archetype, I can inspire courage like a bard. I'll also have some control capabilities with variant channeling (madness) which causes confusion on a failed save. I'm also going to be taking the main Summon Monster feats. Being obsessed with both magic and balance, eventually I'll be able to channel both negative and positive energy, and I plan on taking levels in the Envoy of Balance prestige class. The ecclesitheurge archetype lets me choose a different domain every day for purposes of picking domain spells, which will give me a ton of flexibility. Note that I'm not the stereotypical "healer" cleric, although of course, I can heal. It's just not my focus. Focusing on healing is, IMO, both boring and suboptimal. I'll be doing lots of buffing, some summoning, and making opponents confused. Here's my short-but-sweet backstory/reasons why I'm in Sandpoint:

--

Nyx just arrived in Sandpoint in time for the consecration of the new cathedral, drawn both by the news of the new cathedral as well as strange dreams and messages from his own deity, Nethys. Nyx’s obsession with magic is an understatement, and this obsession keeps pointing him to Sandpoint as of late, although he has no idea why exactly. He has a feeling that powerful ancient magic is beginning to stir. Equally obsessed with balance in all aspects, Nyx wants to learn more about what’s going on with this ancient magic, and make sure to do whatever he can to ensure that balance is preserved.

Born and raised in Quantium, the cosmopolitan, refined capital city of Nex, Nyx’s life has been steeped in magic since birth. His family are all devout followers of Nethys, his father an accomplished wizard and his mother a priestess. Nyx’s obsessions led him to travel away from his homeland in search of arcane knowledge from every culture.

Nyx is a skilled orator and can earn a living telling lively stories in taverns and public gathering places of the legendary battles between the archmages Nex and Geb.
Nyx, having been communing with Nethys his whole lifetime, has more than a touch of his deity’s infamous madness.

Alrighty, I am back and I read up on Noro's background as well as Lou's background. Very interesting and it looks like they'll have quite a number of connections!

Krios was there when Noro and her family arrived in Sandpoint. Her mother may have even knew Teama, Krios's mother. The elf was an inquisitive and shy boy and likely never picked on her for her lisp. After his mother's murder at the hands of the Chopper during "the late unpleasantness", Krios became a much more awkward and insular person. He may have even approached her for friendship at one point but when she fell in with the Scarzni crowd, his father would've demanded that he stay away from her and the Feedbag. Since then, they've likely disconnected to a degree and just moved in different circles.

Anlis, Krios's father, is an old man even for a half-elf. He is certainly nearing the end of his life, being 150ish. However, he still maintains his small farmstead nearby town growing local vegetables to sell at market while Krios helps him with chores and working at the Rusty Dragon.

My relationship with Ameiko and Lou depends on how Ameiko reacts to us. Krios has a crush on her but likely hasn't developed the courage to try and ask her out yet. I want to be something he gets to as he levels up and grows more confident. Girls are only slightly less intimidating that the ravenous hordes of evil.

I don't know how much Jubrayl knows about Krios's father's history either. I know Anlis would've likely kept his head down and out of sight in order to keep his head when the travelling gypsies come and visit.

What do you guys think, Noro and Dak?

I might make some minor adjustments to my build before the official kickoff. Since I want Charisma for channeling and Wisdom for spells, I'm trying to decide between starting with 16/18 or 17/17. 17's would also let me bump my CON from 11 to 12. I'm starting to lean toward the latter. I can't actually start channeling until level 3 because the evangelist archetype gives up level 1's channel ability. Speaking of channeling, I'll never do a LOT of damage/healing because variant channeling halves the amount rolled. And my archetypes replace a few levels of channeling dice (different ones though, so the archetypes can both be used together). The point of my channeling is control (when negative) and buffs (when positive).

I think the main appeal of the 17's would be that bump to constitution, which the metagamer in me would suggest seeing what the rest of the party is first so you can have an idea whether there would be a solid front line or not.

The benefit of the 16/18 being that you're getting that +4 bonus right at the get-go, while 17/17 means you'll only have one attribute getting +4 at level 4. Hitpoints though, are always really nice...but can be countered with your favored class bonus.

I don't think the weaker channeling will be too much of a hit, especially depending on who else is part of the game. None of us seem to be characters that'll charge off recklessly without a good reason.

EDIT: I totally missed your introduction post Nyx since I was writing my own wall of text. Glad to have you!

17/17 with 12 CON is how I’m gonna go. I care less about the HP than the bump to FORT. I’ll take CHA to 18 at level 4, just after I can actually, you know, channel. Then WIS at 8. This cleric thinks he is and plays like a wizard; if I’m getting hit I’m doing it wrong. One of my archetypes makes it so I lose all my Cleric abilities if I don any armor or shield. So I’ll rely on smart tactics and my (buffed) allies and summons to hopefully not get attacked too often. Yay for d8 hit die though. Clerics are starved for skills (2/level? Really?) real bad and there’s a few I need/want so that’s where my FCB will go.

Hey Everyone!

Looking forward to playing RotRL with you all!

I guess I'll be the squishy ranged/caster of the group ;-). I'm not fully decided on how I'll develop him yet. I'm split between going down the full arcane sorcerer tree or going for an arcane archer. I guess it depends on who else is in the group but I'd appreciate any input you guys have on the matter.

Background wise, Adarion grew up in Iadara in Kyonin (elven culture to the max Krios :P) but was assigned to Crying Leaf in the Mierani forest fairly recently, by elven reckoning. He discovered some of the ancient monuments left behind by the Thassilonian Empire while there and felt the power that was contained within them. Fascinated by this he began studying their origins, learning more about ancient Thassilon along the way. His studies eventually led him to Sandpoint, arriving about a week before the festival. He's staying at the Rusty Dragon Inn, planning on using it as a base of operations for his studies. The full background is in my alias if you're interested.

Adarion is pretty friendly and outgoing and would have no problem going up to random strangers in the inn to talk to them. Being relatively sequestered in mostly elven communities for most of his life would leave him curious about how other races typically live.

If anyone else thinks that their PC might know of him or have met him I'm happy to work with you on their connection. There are potential hooks for the other PCs to have met Adarion already. Krios, with his connection to Ameiko in the Rusty Dragon Inn and his fascination with elves, would probably have seen/talked with Adarion since he arrived a week ago. Nyx's interest in magic and Adarion's innate ability might get the two talking (Adarion wouldn't be afraid to use magic, like prestidigitation, in public). The fact that Noro's brother works in the inn and she's there a lot means she could have easily have seen or bumped into Adarion there.

@Krious I doubt Jubrayl would know about you or your father unless the Scarzni had reason to believe you fled to Sandpoint from Magnimar. Jubrayl is so busy running his own little organization and working to expand his small criminal enterprise that he likely wouldn't be overly concerned with Scarzni issues from other towns unless someone higher up specifically asked him for a "favor".

As for the game, I'm just waiting for one more to check in. They already got in touch via PM, they are just finalizing their crunch and will hopefully be checking in shortly.

so far all that sounds pretty good, I don't want Lou to be a major part of anything... this is our story, not Lou's so we will see how that pans out.

Noro was born in Sandpoint while her parents arrived the same time Amieko and her family arrived.

I am putting together a family history that goes way back a few generations and how they tie into Sandpoint's founding.

Greetings, Adarion.

Oh I'm just as squishy as you! I can't wear any armor or shield at all. So we'll be hanging out together in the back a lot. I play a Sorcerer in PFS who's now level 16, so I've got a lot of experience with the class. I see you're going for an archer-sorcerer; mine is more of a generalist. Spells for every occasion. Blast, control, buff, debuff, etc. Prestiging into Arcane Archer will set you back a caster level, and you're already a level behind prepared casters as far as at what level you get access to higher-level spells. Since you're the only arcane caster in the party, I'd recommend just staying with Sorc for that reason. Just my 2 coppers on the matter.

I feel like our characters would have met by now to talk magic, the differences and similarities between divine and arcane magic, etc. Nyx would find it fascinating that your magic just "comes" to you, and you don't have to study or pray or anything to cast spells.

@Nyx: Nice! I might try to leverage off your experience as I level then if that's alright with you? It's more that he's had a typical elven upbringing (archery prowess being important for elves), with his innate magic influencing it than me specifically planning on going for an archer-sorcerer.

Adarion would be interested to hear another expert's opinion on his gift. He still doesn't fully control or understand it but would explain what he does know to Nyx if questioned.

Sure, I'm happy to share what I've learned. Full casters are my favorite Pathfinder classes to play. The main thing with spontaneous casters is to be really careful to choose spells that you're likely to cast every day, and also make sure you have spells that do a variety of different things so you can solve a variety of different challenges. And when you can afford one (usually around level 5 or so), a Mnemonic Vestment is a spontaneous caster's best friend.

And while Nyx talks excitedly about Adarion's innate magical powers, it becomes apparent he's not quite "all there."

Think I added the correct people to the correct tokens for those of you who have joined. Please try and move your guy about in Roll20 to confirm it is correct.

@Adarion - Sounds good. Basically the sheet has a 6 way split, 1 share for each party member and one "group" split. You all are welcome to change this if needed. Just put the name of the item in column A, the amount you got in B and the value in C. If people want a particular item or items they put a numerical value in their column, in the row for the item that represents how many of the item they want. This adjusts the gold value at the bottom so that items/gold are evenly split. If you have Gems/Jewelry/Art etc (items that sell for the value instead of half their value) those go in under that header so it accounts for the properly. I put an example of 3 daggers on there for reference. You all are welcome to do something differently if you like, it's just the sheet I created and use for all my games so I'm familiar with it.

Welcome to the group Alex!

The player's handbook mentions monstrous humanoids, giants, magical beasts and undead and at higher levels evil outsiders and dragons. I'd imagine any of the first few would be a good choice. From your background in your alias, it sounds like goblinoid or animal would make sense to your character but if it's not until level 5 you're choosing maybe you could pick based on how the game goes?

@GM Dak: I was playing around with the loot sheet and I think I understand how it works. The only thing I'm a bit confused about is the Final GP at the bottom. It looks like there's another total being added from column Q that's messing up the Final GP total. I'm not sure if that's intentional so I didn't change it just in case. Is the accepted row at the bottom just for players to say they're okay with the totals? I also checked my token on Roll20 and it seems to be working fine.

Good catch on the loot sheet, previously my virtual home game had 6 people so there was a 7 way split. Fixed it now though.

@Alex - Yeah with your background I would say goblinoids would likely be favored enemy. Also, there is a particularly nasty bugbear in the area with links to the local goblins so the bugbear + goblins might work for your parents deaths instead of orcs.

Hey, just FYI I realized even though ecclesitheurge and evangelist technically can be used together because they don't replace any of the same features, the best part of ecclesitheurge (being able to choose a different secondary domain for spells each day) doesn't work with evangelist, because evangelist only gets one domain (which I accidentally overlooked when creating this character). So I decided to drop ecclesitheurge. Nothing I've done in-game would be mechanically affected by this. Basically, Hero Lab let me set it all up just fine when I created the character. But then next time I loaded this character it flagged my secondary domain, saying I didn't qualify. I'm now not sure why it let me get one in the first place. Hero Lab really shouldn't let you pick both archetypes because they both alter how domains work.

Anyway, I updated my stat block on my profile.

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy 4th of July. If you're not an American, I hope your Wednesday is badass.

Just a heads-up to everyone: I'm leaving Sunday (July 8) on an Alaskan cruise for a week. I'm hoping there'll be wifi or at least phone service so I can check in. I'll do my best to find time once a day. Before I leave though I'll type up suggestions for botting.

I intend to check in while I'm cruising, but if I'm absent and you need to bot me, here are suggestions.

botting Nyx:

Inspire Courage at the start of any combat (if he has rounds remaining). Other than that, his stat block is current on his page, including prepared spells (only 3 at level 1) and scrolls (various support spells). Feel free to use anything. Good choices would be Magic Weapon to buff someone's attack and damage rolls or Shield of Faith if someone is getting beat up bad (maybe shoulda used that earlier but I was hanging back away from the frontlines).

As far as RP/story, Nyx has been drawn here to Sandpoint because he feels magical stirrings at a subconscious level. He'll be hanging around to investigate. Noting that the rest of the party have shown themselves as capable adventurers, he decides it'd be wise to stick together. Being half mad, he'll always remain somewhat aloof, but also calm and steady (he's obsessed with balance). He's also polite and persuasive (Diplomacy +9), and always willing to speak up in a diplomatic manner.

His only current healing capabilities are the scrolls of Infernal Healing (and he's about to use one on Noro; as we advance in experience he'll be able to patch up others more reliably).

I finally have service for the first time since being on the ship but we're leaving civilization shortly. I got the gameplay thread up to date and I'm working on updating. If I don't get my update posted before I lose contact I'll have it typed up and ready to post when we reach the next stop tomorrow.

Hey all, I made it back home. Sorry I wasn't able to check back in after that first day. Service in all the ports was super spotty and it was nonexistent at sea (unless I wanted to pay a ridiculous fee for satellite wifi). I need to go to bed but I'll get caught back up tomorrow at work after I get settled in.

Alaskan cruise to Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan (and Victoria, B.C. for some reason, which was nice but didn't really fit with the vibe of the Alaskan destinations). Saw some misty fjords, totem poles, took a train ride, and had some quality family time.

Fun! I got to visit a Club Med in the Bahamas as a kid. It's a lovely area.

Krios will likely check on his father before returning back to see what else he could do around the town. As for the next day, he'd probably just be helping the most injured manage.

@GM Dak Oh...I forgot to ask you whether there was any loot from the goblins to add to the list?

No loot aside from standard gear (small leather armor, and small weapons on each of the goblins) most of which you would have difficulty selling since it is all obviously of goblin make (pretty shoddy).

Hi all, I added the gold to the loot list. Just to note the loot list is currently set up with 6 shares. One share each and then one for the party as a whole. That means that we get 41 gold 6 silver and 7 coppers each from the reward, with the same being saved for the party's use. We can do it that way or just get 50 gold each and not have any for the party's share. I don't really mind and am happy to go with whatever the majority wants.

hi all, I feel like I need to withdraw from this game. I've been really busy with life, and other issues, going through a rough spell of depression, so I'm cutting back on games as I don't want to be a burden and hold up games because I don't/cant post some days. Thanks for having me, and it was fun. I may keep reading up on the game though, if you guys are ok with that.

I'm super sad to see you go, not just because you were a murder turret. I know exactly what you mean by those spells of depression and I wish you the very best lifting yourself up and out of it. Take care, feel better <3
