Petronicus Krupt
Krupt taps the haft of his polearm impatiently on the ground. "Well, I say we just barge right in. We waited around and observed the last time we did this, and look what little good it did us. Two of us still ended up unconscious on the floor."
Petronicus Krupt
Krupt walks around to the side door, and takes another listen before opening it a few centimeters and peeking in Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 ... and becoming distracted by the strange patina of the flaking paint on the outside of the building.
Updated Roll20 map
GM Dak
The entire floor of this chamber has collapsed into the pool of water five feet below. The earthen walls of this flooded subcellar ooze with foul rivulets, and the smell is abominable. Two oozing sewer pipes protrude through the east wall of this pit just above the level of the sewage. Part of the ceiling above the entrance has collapsed, revealing an attic crawlspace above; a rickety ladder leads up from the water into the crawlspace. A door stands in the far wall across the sludge pit. A wooden plank balanced between both doors makes a precarious bridge between the two doors.
Petronicus Krupt
"Well, this looks promising," Krupt remarks sarcastically. He reaches in to the ladder next to the entrance and checks to see how sturdy it is ... Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 ... and is distracted by the sheen reflecting off the pool of sewer sludge. WTF!
Mach Star
Mach coughs at the smell before creeping inside across the plank to the opposite door. He readies his knives, not entirely convinced that this room is as empty as he thinks.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Ooh! Shiny thing!
GM Dak
Krupt checks the ladder while Mach slinks by quietly to check the other door. The plank creaks a bit under Mach's weight but holds strong.
As the other start to follow after Krupt and Mach two men come out of the other door.
Yelling the one in the lead say "Hey yous! Get out of here. This ain't no place for you!" The other one rounding the corner seeing Krupt at the door draws his weapon before also yelling "You're not s'ppose ta be in there!"
GM Dak
SM1: 1d20 ⇒ 13
SM2: 1d20 ⇒ 5
The rear thug looks to the front who shakes his head "You're lieing, and we know no one should be here. So get out of here before we have to make you get out of here!" The rear thug also pulls out his weapon.
Mach Star
It sounds like there's a bit of an argument going on outside... perhaps that meant there were less people inside for Mach to deal with?
He listens at the door...
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
...before slowly opening it and creeping through.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Um'bala
|
"Listen, my large friends," Um'bala begins, approaching the two ruffians. "I think we can all agree that if an altercation were to take place here, then it would go very poorly for one of our sides. We have you outnumbered. I am sure you think yourselves competent and able to hold your own in a fight, but I must caution you to reconsider - if you raise arms against us, then you will lose. We have come here looking for someone. If they are not here, then we will all depart, and you will never see our shadows to darken your doorstep." He flicks his eyes between the two men. "Natalya Vancaskerkin. Have you seen her?"
GM Dak
At the mention of Natalya they both jump to attack.

Round 1
>Quintus, Mach, Thugs, Um'bala, Nimt, Petronicus, ?-1, ?-2
Quintus Valdemar
Quintus sighs and then unleashes a blast of color on the guards.
Casting color spray DC 15 will save.
2 HD or less unconscious, blinded, and stunned: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 rounds
blinded and stunned: 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds
Then stunned for 1 round.
3 or 4 HD blinded and stunned: 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds
Then stunned for 1 round.
5 or more HD: The creature is stunned for 1 round.
Quintus Valdemar
If I would catch Um'bala in the blast Quintus would just cast grease on the first guard's weapons. So whenever the guard tries to use his weapon he needs to make a DC 15 reflex save or lose it.
Mach Star
Thanks!
Round 1: Actions
Free Action: Drop Dagger
Move Action: Draw Shortbow
Standard Action: Sneak Attack the goblin on the right!
Mach grins, drops his knife, and takes out his shortbow. Nocking an arrow, he fires at the goblin on the right. He has the element of surprise here.
Sneak Attack!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (1) = 7
He hides back in the shadows, to avoid goblin retribution.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
GM Dak
Quintus casts a spell on the front thugs weapon, hoping to make it more difficult for him to manage. Mach, still inside the building, pulls out his bow and takes a shot at one of the goblins who isn't paying attention. The arrow flies threw skewering the goblin in the neck as it falls off the boxes and into the muck below.
The front thug moves over to Krupt to attack while trying to hold onto his weapon.
Ref: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Direction: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Distance: 2d10 ⇒ (8, 5) = 13
As he swings, the weapon slips out of his grasp and flies over Krupt to land behind him in the dirt.
The other thug moves up to Nimt and attacks.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Nimt easily ducks out of the way, avoiding the blow.
Round 1
Quintus, Mach, Thugs, >Um'bala, Nimt, Petronicus, ?-1, ?-2
Um'bala
|
"Hmmm? Oh, um, y-yes, Nimt," Um'bala replies nervously. "I had hoped these two men could at least count past two. So much for that." Rather than casting spells, Um'bala pushes past the man that's lost his weapon, and picks it up. "Let's try this again," he says, pointing the weapon awkwardly at the thug. "Tell your friend to drop his weapon, and all of us walk away happy. It's your only play, when you think about it."
If I can make it over to that weapon without drawing an AoO, then that's my move.
GM Dak
Um'bala rushes over to the weapon the man lost, standing over it ensure he can not easily retrieve it. Krupt easily, knocks the man to the ground, using his weapon to pull the man's legs right out from under him. The thug crashes to the ground with a big huff as the air in his lungs is knocked out of him for a moment. Nimt steps back from the one assualting her and takes a shot. At such close range the arrow easily finds its mark, though only knicking the man as it passes straight through the side of his arm.
Inside the building the remaining goblin in the boxes, grabs one of the loaded crossbows and takes a shot at Mach.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 8
The bolt smacks into Mach in his chest almost knocking him off the beam and into the muck below. Shortly after some other goblins, obviously alerted by all the noise start to spill out of the sewer pipes below, seeing Mach they gleefully pull out some small burlap sacks, looking as though they plan to start throwing them at Mach.
Round 2
>Quintus, Mach, Thugs, Um'bala, Nimt, Petronicus, Goblins-1, Goblins-2
Mach Star
Round 2: Actions
Double Move: Get the hell out of there!
Yep. Time to go.
The crossbow bolt hurt like all hell. Mach immediately turns on his heel and moves back across the plank to get outside.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
He emerges next to a fight, bleeding badly, and runs behind Um'bala.
"Goblins inside. They've got some sort of sacks: one of them nailed me with a crossbow."
Wouldn't the crossbows be sized for Small creatures?
Nimt
|
"Seems those goblins have become our top priority. I'm willing to gamble that those sacks are tanglefoot bags. Mach, cometh to me. I will try to close your wounds"
can't access rolld20 right now because I'm waiting for a password reset mail. Can anyone tell me if I am within one move action of Mach ?
GM Dak
While Quintus moves into a better position to aid Krupt, the Thug on the ground stands up.
AoO from Quintus and Krupt if you like
Once standing he will start swinging at Quintus who is a closer target.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The punch goes wide and misses Quintus. The other Thug steps up to continue his assualt on Nimt.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
His swing goes wide as well, as Nimt manages to avoid the blow.
Round 2
Quintus, Mach, Thugs, >Um'bala, Nimt, Petronicus, Goblins-1, Goblins-2
Petronicus Krupt
While Quintus moves into a better position to aid Krupt, the Thug on the ground stands up.
AoO from Quintus and Krupt if you like
Oh yes, we like!
Krupt grumbles "Stay down, bandit, or it shall go ill with thee!" Despite his best offer, the thug stands up, and draws a swift attack from the Chelaxian. AoO attack + prone + flanking: 1d20 + 5 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 4 + 2 = 15, Guisarme damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7
GM, just a suggestion, but I've found that unless there's a big secret involved, it is faster in a PbP if you can post our opponent's AC and make us describe our hits and misses. Make the players do more work!
Nimt
|
Nimt moves back-to back with quintus and fires another arrow at the thug that she shot.
Attack : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Attack : 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
What's with the half-squares on the map ? Can we move there or not ?
Petronicus Krupt
"Asmodeus' horns, I said stay down!" he yells at the thug, and sweeps his legs again. CMB to trip: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13 His guisarme sadly gets caught on the side of the hovel and nearly stuck in the wood of the siding.
GM Dak
After the thug stands up Krupt and Quint both take a swing, but only Quint manages to connect, and just barely at that. Um'bala cloaks himself in magics of protection after he picks up the thugs weapon. Nimt steps back, next to Quint and takes a shot, but with the close quarters and the threat of imminent pain her shot goes wide and misses the mark. Krupt tries to knock the man down again but has little luck.
You can hear the goblins talking and one gets up the ladder in the first room and onto the beam.
Round 3
>Quintus, Mach, Thugs, Um'bala, Nimt, Petronicus, Goblins-1, Goblins-2
Quintus Valdemar
Quintus seeing that he can't do much in this fight steps back and lets the others begin to handle this.
5 ft. step back and readying an action to attack the first enemy to come into range.
