Quarr grasps a bomb from his hip as he sips from the jacket once again and hurls it at the mass of the Centipede Swarm but fumbles the vial as he hurls it at the beast. It seems your flames are fairing a bit better than my bombs are at the moment. These damned vials keep slipping out of my hands.

The mouth-filling stench of the sewers finally breaks in the relatively fresh air of Ardis’s docks. The moonlight shining down upon the weathered stones beneath the sewer gate catches a glint of gold: a small, worn locket smashed upon the rocks holds a pair of tiny portraits. One shows a Vonran Vilk who might have walked the streets fifty years ago. The other, torn and gnawed, shows Markov Rutowski—Vilk’s former lover.

The group trudges in the only direction possible, along with the filth. Soon they come to some stairs leading from the river of sewage. At the top of the stairs, the group sees a large estate across the road bearing a symbol that they should recognize: Sir Bentham's estate. Hanging from Sir Bentham's gate is a body, brutally slashed at the wrists and throat, the coagulated blood pooled under the grisly sight. The body is wearing the garb of a messenger and his hands are missing: a common punishment for a thief in Ardis.

As the group notices the hanging body, a howl pierces the night sky. Several blocks away, a
hunched figure pauses to watch its pursuers emerge from the river of sewage, then takes off running. Quarr and Beleg look at each other in horror. He is running in the direction of Rutowski’s townhouse.

Initiative:
1st: Beleg
2nd: Mauler
3rd: Takahiro, Aod, Quarr, Fredrick, Haris

Rules for a Chase:
• It takes a move action to move through a single square. When a character exits from a square, he must choose one of that square’s two obstacles to face as a standard action before moving to the next square. Instead of exiting a square, a character can choose to take another action not directly related to navigating the chase’s course, such as casting a spell or drawing a weapon.
• A character may attempt to move three squares during his turn by taking a full-round action. That character must overcome both obstacles on the square he is leaving. In this case, if a character fails either obstacle check by 5 or less, he only moves one square forward and his turn ends. If a character fails either obstacle check by more than 5, he cannot move at all that turn. A character unfortunate enough to fail two obstacle checks in a turn becomes mired in his current square. A mired character must spend another full-round action becoming unmired, effectively losing his next turn.
• A character can also choose to make a ranged attack or cast a spell during his turn in a chase. If the action is a full-round action, he can’t move at all. Use the number of squares and their established distances (in this case, 30 feet) to determine ranges as necessary. The terrain where the chase takes place might provide the target partial or even full cover or concealment. A character can only choose to make melee attacks against targets that are on the same card.

Quarr, I'm not sure why you attempted three squares worth of checks.

You can actually only move either one square or three squares per chase rules. The Midnight Mauler moves two squares on a successful full-round action instead of three.

Basically each turn you have to the option to full round to attempt both of the squares activities, if you succeed, you move three squares. If you choose, you can use a standard action to attempt a single activity from a square to move one square.

Also, if your movement is less than 30', you take a -2 to all checks for each 10' you are under 30'. If your movement is above 30', you gain a +2 to all checks for each 10' you are over 30'.

Looking over your rolls, if you attempted the full round, you would have only moved one square with a +13 on your Climb. So, you move to the Overgrown Greenbelt.

Actually, I think the tactic for him is so that he can move 2 with 2 move actions, which gives him 2 options per square rather than trying to get 3 with no options.

Right Aod, but that doesn't jive with the Chase mechanics. Moving through a square is a move action. Attempting an obstacle is a standard. So moving two squares would require two moves and two standards, so I just made it so he moves slower on a full-round rather than violate even more Chase rules. What do we think about this?

Everyone gets one more action before we move to the next phase. The way it will work is you still have to catch up to where the fight is before you can participate, which means overcoming the obstacles. Once you reach the square where the Mauler and Beleg are, then you arrive at a predetermined set of squares on the map.

I am not sure Beleg catching up with the Mailer by himself is a good thing, it will take us ages to get there.

Beleg is pretty tough, and has ablative barrier and mirror image. He should be able to hold out until others arrive.

Hello! Exhausted but popping back in! Not sure where we are in init but if I've caught up to him but no one else has I will cast mirror image on my turn:

"Come on you slow bastards! Get the f*@% up here and help me before this son of a b!+@! kills someone else!"

So you are saying that after you catch up to him? Well there goes the chance to negotiate...

The old wolfman hunches down on the cobblestones, panting from the chase and glaring with fiery red eyes. “So, you’re the lap dogs the Decemvirate sent to cull me? Pathetic. All of your cut throats will barely slake my thirst from our little run.”

Low, feral growling can be heard coming from the shadows of a nearby alley.

The Mauler grins, bearing ragged, yellow fangs. “How shall we do this, little ones?”

Vilk whistles and a large wolf appears from the shadows behind Beleg. Both of the creatures flank Beleg before attacking.

The wolf lands a vicious bite on one of the Beleg's legs only to have the image pop as the wolf tries to wrestle it to the ground.

Vilk delivers a crushing blow to one of the Belegs. He hits the correct one! All of the Belegs now sport a bleeding gash from their stomach.
