Ameko ibn Jad
|
I shall deal with this fool, follow the others, don't let them get away and warn this Haliduras! I can catch up with you easily enough, Binky has the speed!
I hope...
| DM Feral |
I put a basic map up to help minimize confusion. Getting into the cart isn't an action, it just takes an extra square of movement. The carts are 3x2 so 6 medium-sized creatures would fit or Binky plus two medium sized creatures.
The grey section is cart railing which will be difficult terrain for non-carts.
Ameko ibn Jad
|
Don't wait for me, I shall follow you with air walk. Adding in haste binky can double move 160' a round which should hopefully keep up with you.
Also, does the guard have a reach weapon? Otherwise I think he needs to be adjacent to me
Faeranduil
|
Faeranduil flies toward the last cart and casts haste to help everyone act quicker.
"Get into that last cart and wait for me Unnvar and Arames, we will stop her together!"
There was no way I could get all of us into range of the haste from my old position
Ameko ibn Jad
|
I missed that it took us two hours to get here, I would have recast barkskin, heroism and air walk on arrival at the camp
Unnvar the Solemn
|
Unnvar follows Faeranduil instructions and races into the cart powered by haste. He draws his greatsword and waits for the wizard.
Let's do this!
Yes, I would have recast Barkskin from wand as well, before rushing into the camp. I'll mark off another charge. And grab the potion of CMW from the guard. Oh, and the Aspis badge in my trophy bag with several other Aspis badge trophies.
Faeranduil
|
Hopefully it takes a single move action from either Unnvar or Arames to get the cart going and we see them somewhere during or at the end of that movement. Cast dimension door, transporting the three of us into the other cart, placing Faeranduil so that he is in the least exposed position. Arames and Unnvar can then attack.
If Faeranduil is attacked he will cast emergency force sphere (immediate action)
Faeranduil
|
Drat! I was convinced that she had taken two, thanks GM, that is why I posted this. In that case we will follow the other cart and Faeranduil will blast the other cart with a quickened fireball to make room, if there is enough room for two persons in the cart Faeranduil can then cast the dimension door, staying out of the cart himself (since he is flying). He does not mind at all not to be in the other cart.
Note that this all next round, after Arames and the enemy has acted, so plenty of opportunity to foil the plan
Quickened Fireball: 10d6 + 5 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 2, 3, 5, 5, 4, 3, 6) + 5 = 40
If that does not kill at least one of them he will think of something else to do with his standard action

"Ameko, would you use this wand on me?"
Wand of CLW: 5d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 8, 1, 4, 3) + 5 = 23 Back to full
Present time...
Blast! I might be able to out run the cart... I think I should stick with Unnvar though, he work well together!
Arasmes will leap into the cart with Unnvar, Faerunduil's magic speeding him up enough to easily cross the distance.
When I move my tokenn to the cart, I disappear. Idk how to change the image settings for my token on google slides, would someone do it for me please?
Unnvar the Solemn
|
@Arasmes - done, you can change the order and bring your token to front.
Unnvar the Solemn
|
Looks like I'm the only 1 of the 3 trained in Ride, so I'll give it a try. Only wanna keep eyes on the other cart at this time, so whatever speed that requires.
Unnvar takes the controls of the cart and tries to keep it from crashing!

Sorry, missed that we had started the next round.
Facing the remaining guard Binky utters a shriek and jabs at him over and over with his huge beak. He is cleary furious that his mistress has been injured!

The woman and her cart pick up more speed!
She works a spell that seems to fill her guards with confidence. The two guards not driving attack the party's cart on their heels. One of them drops rocks and pieces of mining equipment onto the tracks until a pick flies up and hits Unnvar. The other guard raises a longbow and fires on Arasmes.
Primary: 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 12 - 2 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Iterative: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 2 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Unnvar takes 3 damage from flying debris and needs to make an extra ride check.
Reflexes: 5d20 ⇒ (6, 7, 12, 2, 11) = 38
Faeranduil catches all of the guards with the brunt of his quickened fireball but the woman is quicker and avoids most of the flames.
The party is up. Faeranduil I resolved your quickened fireball. If you guys are going to stay in the cart another round someone needs to make another ride check. You'll need to speed up again if you want to keep up with the other cart.
Ameko ibn Jad
|
Having dispatched the guard Ameko will urge Binky to follow the carts if it looks like she can keep up with them.
Binky can move 100' per round, 160' for the next minute or so while haste lasts.
If they look to be moving much faster than that Ameko and Binky will dive into the remaining cart and give chase.
Ride for cart: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
If she has the actions available Ameko will draw her cure wand and heal herself en-route, Cure: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 8, 5) + 3 = 20
Ameko ibn Jad

In which case into a cart we jolly well go!
Fear not friends, I am only a little way behind! Try to leave some of them for me.
Unnvar the Solemn

Just double checking I took 3 total?
Unnvar speeds up the cart to try to keep up with the Aspis cart, trying desperately to keep it under control.

Reflexes: 5d20 ⇒ (12, 6, 8, 17, 4) = 47
Faeranduil's second fireball burns all the occupants in the second cart to ash.
Encounter over.
With the woman dead the party is free to enjoy a leisurely ride in the mine carts. A couple minutes, and several hundred feet, later the carts arrive at the track's end deep underground.
The woman's remains the party finds a battered wayfinder and a scoll of transmute rock to mud.
Unnvar the Solemn
|
Unnvar eases up on the controls as the other cart ceases to contain living creatures. Leaping out at the end of the line. Upon examining the remains, Trophy or did we just torch one of our own? I thinking trophy.
Let's get moving.
Unnvar takes the lead and scouts ahead.

Pulling her cart to a stop Ameko looks at the carnage in the enemy cart. A little excessive Faeranduil? They were the enemy but they might have been able to tell us what was going on here...
| DM Feral |
Again, feel free to retcon whatever healing is necessary.
1d4 ⇒ 2
With no prisoners to interrogate, the party presses onward through the mining tunnels. Two hours later the wide tunnels open into an expansive ruin-filled chamber.
Towering buildings and forgotten architecture fill the skyline hidden deep within a rocky pillar. Cramped and decaying columns line avenues and market squares, representing only a fragment of their former glory. Dark shadows play amidst the flickers of light that rain from the chasm opening above.
Perceptions: 4d20 ⇒ (10, 11, 19, 6) = 46
Arasmes spots movement within the shadows of the structure seconds before a half-dozen hunched humanoids with skin as pale as a slug’s belly and huge bulging eyes come scrambling out of the ruined building like spiders.
If you're constantly reapplying heightened awareness Faeranduil can act in the surprise round too.
Initiatives: 5d20 ⇒ (1, 19, 7, 2, 14) = 43
Arasmes gets a surprise action.
Ameko ibn Jad

I will have reapplied barkskin but not heroism for now. Binky has combat reflexes if enemies move within her reach.
Unnvar the Solemn

Again...more barkskin!
Faeranduil

Faeranduil has used his pearl of power and rod of extend to get another 200 minutes of heightened awareness.

Do we also see that large humanoid?
| DM Feral |
Yes, you can see the large figure but it currently just looks like a large stone statue.
Faeranduil recognizes the pale humanoids as morlocks, degenerate humans long lost from the world of light.
No SR. Immune disease, poison. No DR. They have a special leap attack they perform to charge as part of a jump and the swarming ability that allows them to flank enemies by sharing squares with each other.
Faeranduil's surprise action will be after the morlocks.
| DM Feral |
Okay, it's been 24 hours. I'm NPCing Arasmes.
Arasmes moves forward to engage the oncoming horde.
Sure enough the morlocks come scampering across the facade of the ruined building. One lands on the ground brandishing and crude club.
Faeranduil's surprise action is up and then Arasmes's normal turn will be up. I'll be NPCing him again unless he shows up soon.
Faeranduil
|
Seeing all those slavering morlocks appear Fearanduil quickly casts haste to help his companions deal with them and then steps back.
I detected an issue with relying on greater specialised spell and not preparing normal fireballs: can't cast in fireball in surprise rounds...
| DM Feral |
Bolstered by Faeranduil's spell, Aresmes charges toward the morlock on the ground.

The statue seen through a hole in the ruins suddenly begins to animate. It turns and tears the hole in the wall open wide enough for it to squeeze through.
Arcana for the statue.
The party is up. Binky gets AoOs against the two that charged him. Aresmes gets a single AoO.
Edit: Disregard the AoOs. While leaping they don't provoke AoOs for movement.

Faeranduil recognizes the statue as a rather stylized stone golem.
Magic immune (SR infinite). No elemental resistances or immunities but see magic immunity. DR/adamantine. Rock to mud slows it, mud to rock heals it, and stone to flesh removes its DR and magic immunity temporarily. It can release a short-range pulse of transmutation magic that acts as the slow spell every other round.
