At my house we are in the final run-up to our annual fall adventure. This year, we will not have access to wifi for at least four days. In addition, pressure at work related to my anticipated absence and ongoing major project may take me out of the game earlier than that and may keep me off the boards for a while after.
I wanted to post this to all my games while I could to explain that I may go silent for a while. I may get a few more posts in - I'm not sure when radio silence will begin. It could start as early as today - probably late tomorrow - and might run through the 26th if the project goes poorly.
Please don't let my absence stall the game. Bot me as necessary and we will pick up the pieces (or roll up my new character) when I return.
Peace.

Back from the trip. We hiked rim-to-rim at the Grand Canyon. It was hard, it was amazing, it was worth it, and I can't wait to return to do it again.
Will see tomorrow what work holds in store. That's going to impact posting availability - I just hope the vacation was enough to keep me sane over the next couple of weeks.

Wow. I've never had an 'enjoyable' level of stress. What's that like? ;P
I had to go jog on the treadmill today for my yearly stress test.
I keep telling them,
"You don't have to TEST me for stress. You need to INNOCULATE me for it!"
;)
Welcome back Pixie! Glad you had a good time! (Even if it does sound like an awful lot of work to have fun!) ;P
And sanity is overrated.
Under appreciated, but overrated. :)
Let the new week begin! I'm ready for it!
(Ok. I'm really not. But I feel like faking it with gusto!) :/

It was a lot of work and a lot of planning. (Much of which I benefited from more than participated in, bless my traveling companion.) But I derive enjoyment from seeing things in life that you have to work to get to. It makes it that much sweeter for me.

I am a regional operations manager but things have required me to step in and manage a small little dinky account as if I were a team leader and floor manager - I forgot how much I enjoyed it and getting away from spreadsheets.

Not 'still' a problem. Just a recent one.
Previously infectious cases died before they could spread the disease beyond a village or so. Thats no longer the case. Add to that the miracle of air travel and voila! Potential deadly pandemic. For developed countries its a new thing.
The fact that its a)Not airbourne and b) developing countries have better proceedures for treatment and quarantine should keep it in check - though I fear for the Middle East and for Asia, specifically China, who do a fair whack of hiring from Africa.

Oi! Not cool dude, be careful!
8/
I know the media is probably trying to blitz it out of proportion for ratings and all, but it is still nasty.
Watching the news lately is like watching 'Z Nation' movie or something.
I keep waiting for the world map to be shown with a rapidly growing red space on it.
;P
Other than that, busy is good. It helps keep you out of trouble. :)
(Unless your me I guess, then trouble and crazy are just sort of magnetically attracted to you, no matter what.) ;P
Good luck Heathy!

"b" is the hospital I do call at.
"a" is the apartment complex the unfortunate ebola patient was staying at prior to his admission to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, which tangentially I worked at 9 years ago or so.
Sorry for ending my sentences in prepositions.....it's late, and....well, I am in Texas after all.
5.87 miles.....
So I'm not real concerned, but I'm concerned enough to make good and damn sure what I need to do to be prepared adequately. I'd been reading up on it before this because,....well,....frankly there doesn't seem to be much of a travel ban in effect encompassing West Africa, and I couldn't possibly see how the CDC representative who said "there is almost ZERO chance that ebola will make it to the USA" could possibly arrive at such a statement with no travel ban in effect except through either ignorance or guile.
In my career, I have done numerous procedures on tuberculosis positive individuals, and the precautions are rather similar. I guess the best comparison would be between walking across a balance beam that's ten feet above the ground versus walking across the same balance beam that extends over the Grand Canyon: messing one up would just suck, but messing the other one up and you're in a world of hurt.
I just would possibly expect more blood being coughed/vomited up with ebola.
Looks like the CDC is handling things well. We're 9...10 days past the last time he could have potentially exposed the general public,
typical time from exposure to symptoms is 8 days or so, but 21 days is the maximum, and there really haven't been any positives in the people they are observing. The US has far superior public health and general level of sanitation than Liberia.

Be extra careful with that stuff, Heathy.
Here in Spain we have the doubtful honor of having the first secondary infection outside Africa(that is to say, contagion happening inside the country, not imported case). The authorities are looking into how that came to happen since in theory WHO protocols were being followed to the letter.
Being a professional of healthcare I fully agree with Heathy's angle, everyone can make a mistake, but in this line of work mistakes may unfortunately kill...

HEy all,
Just FYI, It is now one of my big show weeks. (Week long rental, this time round they are doing R&H Cinderella)
This means that my time is/will be limited. VERY limited.
I should usually be able to check in at least once/day. Probably very early or very late. But if I do not, please forgive me in advance.
Thx, Carry on! :)

Hello,
I think I'm going to take a hiatus for a while from pbp.
I have so much crap to do that when I get free time I'm a zombie and can't hardly function, or I spend a long bit figuring out what the hell is happening and every time I get back into it, guess what: it's time to flake off again for a week.
In the future when I seem to be able to be involved with this form of gaming in some sort of fruitful way I'll let everybody know and see what/where/when is good to pick up the pieces and go on.
But, I am at least putting my pbp games on hiatus for the nonce.

I understand. You aren't the only GM taking a break - You're the 4th of my games to do so in the last month. For some its burnout, for others it was competing priorities/RL stuff and others its just a simple 1-2 week holiday.
Oh man... I hope I am not the 'x' factor in all this.
In any case, thanks for the work you've put in and I hope things stabilise.

Ragadolf |

Is it Steak on your plate? Cuz you can never have too much steak on your plate! :)
I understand Heathy. I have seriously considered dropping out myself recently. But I dont WANT to quit! These games are fun, I'm just hammered at work and RL lately.
I'm good with this. Hiatus is good. It is not quitting. It is a vacation. :)
No worries my long-distance friend. You take some time with School, family and all that RL jazz. Just give us a shout when you are ready to return! :)

Surgery for a broken arm?!?
Um,... Owie? :(
Yeah, you take care of that stuff first, and second. ;)
I do hope you find time to study though. That usually helps.
Unless your one of those annoying uber-smart-don't hafta study types.
Your not, are you?
I mean I can deal with annoying, but the rest really bugs me. ;P
Take care Heathy, Get everyone better and have a great Thanksgiving!
And the same to the rest of ya! :)

Larissa Brightfoot |

Take care, Raggy. I can't speak for Heathy-daughter's injury, but I have seen a number of people with displaced fractures where surgery is the common method of getting everything into the correct position that it heals correctly.
And let's not discuss having to re-break the bone because it healed wrong the first time. Makes me queasy thinking of it even though the poor person is out cold when it's done.
*shudder*
