Several shelves and desks run along the northern and western wall of this room, while in the center stands a large contraption made of several concentric metal rings arrayed around a thin metal mesh in which is cradled a black ceramic bottle with a cork plugging its top.
A creature made of smoke that resembles a bat with insect feet and glowing red eyes forms in the far corner of the room.

Astra and Liz know that it is a belker, an air elemental from the plane of air; evil creatures that can enter other creatures as smoke and attack them from within. This one seems to be slightly stronger than the normal breed.

Chakos proceeds to attempt to lay into the thing with his axe!
As the belker reforms, Chakos swings at it but is unable to connect. Liz's electrical attack passes through some of the creature, while Astra's slashing attack misses the belker entirely.
Syvlara's third shot manages to hit the creature, shredding through its airy form. The creature decides to attack in its more corporeal form with a ferocity against Liz.

Astra considers adding her healing magic to Elizabeth, but realizes there is no good route to the wizard. Deprived of the ability to heal ELizabeth, Astra instead attacks the belker again with her ghost touch sword.
Astra strikes the creature but doesn't seem to affect the smoky bat-thing. Syvlara's arrows puncture through the airy form, until it eventually vaporizes.

This chamber is largely empty, save for a few strange metal barrels against the southern wall. Both barrels have jagged rents on their sides, as if some caustic material had melted a hole through them.
Chakos can hear a faint buzzing coming from somewhere in the room.

Astra carefully moves closer to the metal barrels, trying to examine them. Can she say anything about what the barrels may have contained or what might be the cause of melting? Is it a volatile substance that has corroded the barrels with age, or has something caused a premature reaction of some kind?

Astra isn't sure what was in the barrels or what could have melted them. They appear to be similar in design to those found in Numerian ruins, and there is no outside marking on them. They don't appear to be large bite marks.

"Hrm. Containers of...something. Numerian fluids perhaps. I don't think the beasts loose here have broken them. Perhaps corrosion with age." After she's finished studying the barrels, she looks up at Chakos' words, tilting her head, and then listens. "I can't hear anything. Can you sense a direction it's coming from? Perhaps if we move closer to it."
