You all notice a number of leeches clinging to your lower legs. Most of them are bloated and the size of a sausage, but some are newer and not yet full of blood.
Hawkwren: 1d6 ⇒ 6 leeches, 4 of which are engorged and easy to detach. Take 4 points of Con damage. Two leeches still remain sucking blood.
Janiya: 1d6 ⇒ 4; 3 points of Con damage; 1 leech still sucking
Kargen: 1d6 ⇒ 3; 3 points of Con damage
Luccinus: 1d6 ⇒ 6; 4 points of Con damage, 2 leeches still remain sucking blood.
Tortella: 1d6 ⇒ 6; 4 points of Con damage, 2 leeches still remain sucking blood
Zacarias: 1d6 ⇒ 5; 3 leeches are full; take 3 Con damage. Two active leeches still remain.
Heal check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Zacarius, you know that this Con damage is serious, but easily treated. Any amount of magical healing has a good chance to negate it.

![]() |

While picking at the leeches, Hawkwren racks his brain for anything he may have heard about dealing with leeches.
Knowledge: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Local or Dungeoneering if applicable, same modifier.
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

![]() |

Tortella, can you assist with my wand again?
Assuming he does, Luccinus uses his tinder box to make his metal striker hot, then while under the influence of fast healing, touches it to each leech.
I am assuming the old flint and steel set up... strike enough times and the metal striker becomes quite hot to the touch. Hot enough to drop a leech off? Thats for the GM...

![]() |

If anyone does have a need for healing and is unable to supply their own, then please let me know, I have some means but I hope you as fellow Pathfinders do have some means of your own, Luccinus lectures, Healthy allies are an asset and without healthy allies, the mission is endangered.

![]() |

Kargen assists Zacarias in removing all the leeches from the group. He puts his dagger into the hot flame from the lamp and gently touches it to each leech, then lifting them off.

GM Chris Mortika |

Between the three of you, you're able to deal with the leeches and heal everyone.
The path continues for about a mile and a half when it comes to the edge of a shallow bog whose waters rise above the muck, covering the tracks entirely. A patchy film of sicklycolored,
rubbery fungus floats upon the surface. Near the water’s edge, three moss-covered planks hang cockeyed from a rotten wooden post.
Once the moss is cleared, the first sign reads, “Railford 1-3/4 miles”, the second reads “Barrel-Aging Caves 3/4 mile,” and the third sign reads “Beware of Screamers.”

![]() |

Hawkwren reads the signs, musing. I wonder what it means by screamers?

The sandborn temptress gives gratitude to Zacarias for healing of her ailments in the form of platonic kiss on his mouth. As her lips leave Zacarias', Janiya gathers a whiff of the Varisian cleric. The leech left compromising blemish on Janiya's neck; she says in jest.
It seems that I always attract the suckers.

![]() |

Is there a chance that they left the path here? What do the tracks say?
He searches the area for both signs of struggle and swamp weed both.

GM Chris Mortika |

Janiya, what's the Diplomacy check for?
It's difficult to describe these as footprints, but there is certainly a trail of dislodged and disturbed plants and mud, keeping to the trail. It's impossible to tell exact numbers -- or for that matter direction traveled, but certainly more than one or two.
The trail goes through the bog ahead of you, breaking apart the rubbery fungus growing on top of the bog. Janiya, you recognize it as being similar to the coloration of a notorious, loud mushroom. This looks like a entire fungal raft made up of very small shriekers.
Hawkren, the path leads straight through the bog. You'll need (a)magic, (b) a great deal of ingenuity, or (c) to leave the path and go around, adding maybe a half mile to your trip, to get across to solid ground.

![]() |

I don't see a way forward, we should probably find a way around unless someone has a better idea. If any have earplugs, perhaps they will come in handy, I have a single pair.
Hawkwren get out his earplugs and puts them in.

![]() |

Earplugs are not something I've thought to pack... I may need to revise that for the future...
He looks at the murky water.
It looks like its time to get wet.
Luccinus steps off the path, keeping his eyes open and his body poised for any danger, and starts moving towards the solid ground.

GM Chris Mortika |

Luccinus you move into the brackish water. It's looks like it's only knee deep, but that slows your movement.
Suddenly, the entire surface of the water breaks into a low moan, and a second later, into a scream. It is very hard to hear anything else.
Also, screamer colony releases a brown gas.
Luccinus's Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24; it smells terrible but does not seem to have any other effect.
A mass of branches and writhing brambles, tied together with small vines and including a cluster of swollen purple gourds in the center, bob up to the surface of the bog, ten feet in front of Luccinus.

Zacarias: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Fungus: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Hawkwren, with your lightning-like reflexes, you can react before the bog fungus attacks.
You are either 15 or 20 feet behind Luccinus (your choice) . He is shin-deep in the bog. If you move into the water, you'll be entering the brown cloud that the screamers released. Also, the water is difficult terrain.

Hawkwren grabs his bow and fires an arrow at the writhing mass of plants. Luccinus get out of there, get out the water.

Another tentacle idly touches a catfish under the water. All the flesh and guts fall away from the fish, leaving nothing but bones which slowly dissipate in the turbulent water.
Imagine a square grid. The columns are lettered from west to east, A, B, C, etc. The rows are numbered north to south, 1, 2, 3, and so on. The creature is in D1. Luccinus is in D2.
Rows 1, 2, 3, and 4 are difficult terrain. Please (a) declare what square you're starting in (a dry square, so D5 is the closest square to Luccinus, right next to the shore), and (b) tell me what your actions are.
Essentially, everyone in the party can act (or in Hawkwren's case, act again) before the creature. Unless there's a reason to resolve which of you goes before another, I'm going to assume you go in posting order.

![]() |

Based on 20', Hawkwren is at D6.
Hawkwren fires another arrow at the thing, while continuing to yell at Luccinus. Get out of the water, get out of the way! Did you see what it just did to that fish!

Postured for battle, a harmonious bellow erupts from the sandborn vixen as she invokes a melodious song inspiring her allies to fervently take arms.
Inspire Courage using vocal component expending Janiya's second round of bardic performance. The diplomacy check was to determine her degree of succeeding at humor. btw, what's the link for the battle map?

![]() |

Luccinus seems to ignore the commotion behind him and using his shield to hold off the tentacles, fights defensively... we wades towards it with his morning star and strikes at it.
Should take AC to up to 24 and my Attack down to +2

GM Chris Mortika |

Tortella -- Your attempt to demoralize the thing seems to have no effect.
Kargen --Because Luccinus is providing cover to the thing, as well as it being in melee, you miss. (Here's hoping you pick up Precise Shot soon!)
Janiya -- everyone receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. There is not currently a battle map.
Luccinus -- Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8; you miss.
Hawkwren -- Because Luccinus is providing cover to the thing, as well as it being in melee, you miss, even with Janiya's bonus.
The fungal monstrosity in D1 attacks Luccinus in D2.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15; miss
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6; miss, by a mile
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24; a hit ... Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9; but not a critical.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23; next time you see the person who taught you those armor tricks for "Defender of the Society," you need to buy him or her a beer.
Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21; your arm does not fall off!
But you do take 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 points of damage.

![]() |

Probably might ought to fall back there, big guy. Clearly our ranged support is insufficient.
Tortella throws back the potion and then approaches the shore, spear at the ready in case the monster comes in range.
Times like this I wish I'd have gotten a potion of shield too...

![]() |

Damn stubborn Hellknight, we talk about this later! Ahhhhh for the Dawnflower!
With angerred cheeks and shield and scimitar brandished Zacarias wades to E2.
Since it´s difficult terrain no charging right? And double movement cost? So with 20ft. speed need 2 rounds to get there, except when i make a double move, what i do.
Luccinus please take a 5ft step to C1 so we can flank it asap. I will go to E1 then.

![]() |

I had counted on being able to be the melee anvil while you guys acted as archer style hammers (thats what I built myself for)... but as the man said, without precise shot, that doesn't work real well. Is this thing Normal or Large sized? Zac - Can't metagame my 5ft step - you'll need to call out what you want me to do. This is sort of what I wanted to sort when I was discussing party tactics on the road. I did mention I would act as I have
Incidently, I had one of those premonitions that the bugger would roll a 20 but better that it wail on me than one of the squishies
Luccinus hears the cursing behind him.
Not my fault you can't hit the broadside of a barn!, he says cursing at the pain and stress of combat.
He continues to fight defensively.

Hawkwren shakes his head, grinning, and lets another arrow fly.

And hits something in the other end of the swamp.

Hawkwren shakes his head again and yells at Luccinus again.
Since you seem intent on being fish bait, do you think you try and lure the thing out its element and unto our element. Out of the water my good man!

![]() |

Luccinus makes a fighting withdrawl back to the road.
Withdraws - not sure if that can be done with defensive fighting... I suspect not

![]() |

Luccinus withdraws 10 ft towards the road (20 movement for medium armour, halved to 10 by difficult terrain)

![]() |

Yeah, I'm regretting the Judgement Surge feat instead of Precise Shot. That may get the respec before I hit Level 2.
Kargen sees Luccinus withdraw and he slides to the other side of Tortella to cover the fighter's movement.
Move to B6. Should still be within 30 feet, but with no cover.

Tortella drinks his potion and readies an attack.
Zacarias moves in this round.
Luccinus fights defensively.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10; no luck. even with Janiya's bonus. He adjusts his footing to back out next round.
Hawkwren attempts an attack, but it proves untenable, even with Janiya's bonus.
Kargen attempts an attack, but it proves untenable, even with Janiya's bonus.
Janiya?

GM Chris Mortika |

Janiya continues to inspire courage but otherwise delays.
Luccinus or switch to Zacarias?: 1d2 ⇒ 2
The monster doesn't turn so much -- it doesn't seem to have that kind of intelligence or eyes -- but rather shifts its attacks to Zacarias.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

One hit. Zacarias takes 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 points of damage.
Zacarias' Fortitude save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Hayato Ken, do you have an official Pathfinder shirt or Character folio? If so, would you like to stay at 12 or reroll?

Edit: Forgot to add Janiya's bonus. Hope it helps

GM Chris Mortika |

Zacarias, a tentacle touches the side of your chest, at a gap in your armor; the skin and flesh fall off, leaving a bare rib visible.
Take 1d4 ⇒ 1 point of Strength damage, and 1d4 ⇒ 4 points of Constitution damage. (That temporarily drops both your total and current hp by 2 pts per level.)
