Hey, László's first time out he was attacked by a feral chair. Just because it's inanimate doesn't mean it's safe.

It looks as if some years ago something broke loose and tore apart this ancient workshop before ripping a hole in the eastern wall. Broken tools and implements appear to have pulled from the ruined remnants of this chamber and sorted into various piles.

Ayaki and László both peer into the room, but see little of note from the doorway. As they enter Barlor gets a glance and notices something they missed - another statue of gears slumped amid debris nearby. With a whirring and clicking sound it rises from a pile of broken tools and turns glowing eyes upon the intruders.

Aside from Ayaki and László only Barlor was close enough to have a chance to notice the Statue, so only he acts in the surprise round.

Is there a knowledge roll to identify the creature type of the statue?

Knowledge Arcana applies. I believe only Pai has it.

Pai Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Pai:
recognizes this creature as a construct, animated by similar means to the chair that nearly killed a few of you once upon a time in the Chelish Embassy. However, this one seems to be constructed mostly of stone, rather than wood, so it might be even tougher.

Maddie, do you have another action you would like to take or do you want to defer?

László's rapier lands squarely against the construct's chest, but bends as if hitting a stone wall. Ayaki's sword clangs off its head, also ineffective, and he nearly chips his beak in the attempt to bite the thing.

Barlor swings his enchanted shillelagh and crumbles part of the Statue's shoulder with a powerful strike. He also calls to Ing, but the pig has become so complacent in the last few fights that it does little more than perk up in surprise, as if to say, "You mean, attack now?".

Turg summons another mite, which stabs something near the floor, then gives a premature victory cry for having defeated a piece of junk near the Statue's leg.
