Oooh, the set up is too tempting. Any objections if I blow my last 1st level spell on a grease right where the 3 humans are standing? Folks should be able to get behind them, or I can delay until someone moves there. Or will that bork plans to flank? If not I can just move up and attack or try to trip someone

@ Misha - I'm good with it, so long as the rest of us can maneuver and attacked these guys. But we may have an angry bugbear and/or gnoll on the way...my vote would be for a trip attack...(waffles again) but it'd be nice to immobilize these clowns...plus, if they're greased, it ups the chance my critical may hit!.

Redona fires her crossbow at what looks like the leader of the three men, but it sails over his head and puts the guards on alert that there is more than the dwarf and Shoanti in front of them. Misha steps up and using her whip to great effectiveness wraps it around the leaders leg and with a yank on it, trips the man who falls prone. Josef looses an enchanted dart at the leader, but misses as he misjudged the effect of Misha's whip taking him down. Borris, heart set on a charge runs up to the leader and would have hit him even if he was not laying prone on the floor, but only badly wounds him, and doesn't kill him. Now that Borris is behind the men, Kreig steps up and for a moment thought he found a weak spot in the armor, but the pick is deflected at the last second but he does badly damage the warrior. Rikar and Goma move up, and laughing at the man in front of him, Rikar's greatsword kills him and with a mighty cleave attacks the man in front of Kreig but misses. The warrior in front of Kreig drops his crossbow and cries "I surrender", but man on the floor shoots his crossbow and misses Borris, and says "attack you coward, or Tor will eat us all."

"By the hawk's eye, Mishinika! I'll remember to surrender to you from a distance!" Eyeing the fallen leader of the human thugs, Rikar says "Seems he'd have done better to surrender to the blades all around him, and risk a bit of chewing from this Tor he spoke of. Ah well, likely not the first bad choice he's made."

He then squats down by the man who surrendered, holding his greatsword in his right hand with the point resting on the ground, the blade running vertically like a particularly deadly walking-stick. In a no-nonsense tone, he says, "Let's make this simple. We'll have some questions for you. You'll have some answers for us. "Remember that when you try to marry me to a goblin, Rikar!"

Misha wipes off her blade and resheathes it, shaking her head. The thrill of combat made her laugh, but in truth she took little joy in killing--but she remembered this man WOULD feed them to this "Tor" the first opportunity they got, and his friends had fed poor Api to the goblins. This was as likely the most mercy as the man ever got, or deserved.

Kneeling down, she drags the leader into a slightly more dignified position and checks the leader's pouches for interesting items. It is an unpleasant task, but as she was one who got his belongings covered in his intestines, she may as well take on the unpleasant task.

Misha takes up the sword then, and its sheath, cleaning it off with prestidigitation. Standing away from the others she swings the blade around the few times. "Alright, until such time as you earn a better name, you shall be 'Better Slice'."

She removes one of her old swords and replaces it with Better Slice.

"If anyone wants to use Old Slice, I can commend its use as an effective mercenary killer."

Narrator [Maps, handouts, pictures: Links in top of page spoiler]

As you show the man Kreig's chalk map on the wall, he examines what is written and is able to fill in some of the places.

"Who has the chalk so I can fill this in?" he asks, and when handed a piece, he very slowly and very non-threateningly stands up and begins to draw and speak. "This area here on the east (B2&B11) is same as the area on the west (B2&B10). Human and orc quarters. In fact over here (NW-B11) is my quarters. Not many are there now, and those that are there are probably fast asleep, as the rest are in the arena to watch the fights."

As he continues to look over the hand drawn map on the wall, his eyes widen a bit, "no one knew about these secret doors, or if they did it was not common knowledge. These rooms here (B17&B18) are cells, but some of the damn goblins and worse are using them as latrines so they stink. These rooms (4-B22) are the big goblins." He pauses for a moment as if thinking, "yea, hobgoblins I think they are called. Over here is the armory, but I have never been in it. Here is the Throne Room (B34) where General Tor and the Goblin God hold there weekly audience with the troops. The last audience was four days ago. This is the arena (B29) and this is where Golden Bull is kept {B30). He is a creature that walks on two legs, but has a bull's head with horns."

The man slowly and carefully sits down, handing the piece of chalk back. He sighs somewhat and continues, "I only have two other pieces of information. One is a description of Tor. I am sure that he is some kind of bugbear, but I swear there is dragon blood in him. He is a vicious and dangerous fighter. And the other is, this Goblin God, it is a snarling, canine beast that pads around on all fours, its slender front limbs looking more like hands than a wolf's paws. I ain't never seen one of these before, and I don't ever want to see one again.

He looks at the group, with a little bit of hope in his eyes, "Can I go now? I know the way out thru the mines, and if you have come this far, I assume that there is nothing dangerous there now. I'd like to keep my armor and sword so I can defend myself in the lands."

White hot anger bursts inside Kreig's chest, causing his fists to clinch so hard the muscles in his arms vibrate. The dagger at the man's belly digs deeper, but the dwarf pulls it away before rage puts it into his guts.

He casts a quick glance over his shoulder at the group, dagger shuddering in tune with the anger boiling at his insides. "Get whatever information ya can from 'im, then send 'em out with his armor, no weapons." His full attention returns to the prisoner. "It's more than ya gave Brahli, I reckon. N' it's more 'n you deserve..."

His other hand comes up and shoves the human against the opposite wall. "Get done with 'em quick, 'fore I gut 'em like a carp."

Kreig looks to the wall, keeping the prisoner in his peripheral, and begins committing the map to memory. His dagger caught faint traces of light, gleaming as he scratched an "X" in the two spots where Brahli may be held. Curse my rotten hide! I passed right by 'im!

"Rest up, longshanks. If yer comin' with ole Kreig, ya'll be saddlin' up soon."

I am sure if he makes it to civilization they will deal with him as they see fit otherwise. We have no right or capacity to serve as judge or jury, and our own mission to attend to -- with others' lives at stake. Keeping this man with us will only endanger him and us, and that will do no one any good."

Later on--keep forgetting to post this, it can be inserted into whereever

Misha examines the potions they found to identify them (can we take 20 to ID?), and try to comprehend the runes inscribed on them--and copying them into her journal for good measure.

Do you all feel this way? A mercenarry aligning with Evil trying to kill us and we just make him walk out of here? If the tables where turned he would never have had this kind of mercy for us. I'm not saying I want to be his judge or jury I just dont think letting this man go unpunished is the right thing to do? We could bind and gag him and take him back to town when we go back. That way he can stand a rightfull trial.I would even testify to his helping us out in the end with information even though it was only to save his own life!

If he survives the trip out of and down the mountain, he'll face some rough justice at the hands of the dwarves of Stonehold or the people of Meadowvale.
