Welcome to Ravenloft. Lord Strahd has been expecting you....

Current Map

Knowledge checks that can be included with your post. Each is a separate roll.

Knowledge Religion DC 11:
The C's are carcass eaters, gore streaked, four footed animals that look like a cross between an overlarge rat and a wolf. Their jaws are extraodinary in size, and their eyes glitter with rabid fury.

They can rend fallen enemies with a free bite, dealing extra damage automatically.

Knowledge Religion DC 12:
The Z's appear to be zombies. In addition to the traits of the undead, they are also resilient against all attacks that aren't slashing in nature.

Knowledge Religion DC 13:
The D is a deathlock. This skeletal undead has access to some spellcasting ability and is resistant to positive energy channeled against it.

Crag steps fully into the street, abandoning all attempts at covering his approach, pointing down the alley towards the skeletal creature. That be a warlock among these abominations. Deal with that'un quickly. The rest look to me like zombies and their dogs. I'll deal with them...

Esme, if you don't have another action planned, enlarge person on Crag would let me defend you all from pretty much everything but "D".

If Esme enlarges Crag, he'll move forward past the alley to defend the street, entering defensive stance (+4 str and con, +2 dodge to AC, +2 will saves). Otherwise he'll hold back to intercept any that come their way.

Esme steps forward five feet to stand behind Crag and laying her hand on his shoulder.

Samantha looks for a safe place and seeing none, crouches at Esme's feet.

Ariadne takes wing, landing on the corner of the roof of the far northeast building where she crouches down in a shadow to wait.

"Cu putere mistică, îți poruncesc să se dubleze în dimensiune. Mări persoană!

As the last words leave her lips, a green fog surrounds Crag. His forms shifts and wavers before springing to double it's normal size.

As the mist slowly swirls through the streets, dissipating and revealing the shambling dead, Jonakar mutters a curse. Drawing his heirloom blade from its sheath, Jonakar pauses in mid stride as the blade starts to radiate a pure white light. By Iomedae's holy teats, its never done that before! The elderly scout exclaims in surprise. The blade casts Protection from Evil (+2 AC and Saves vs. Evil) on me. As Jonakar watches Esme lay a hand on Crag, swelling his size, the Anglekin nods. Right, keep them off my back. I'll take the warlock. Swiftly moving into the alley the scout bounds towards the abomination with a grace the belies his years. Standard Action: move up next to Deathlock. Total move is 30'. Quickdraw shield can be drawn as a swift action. Will attempt Acrobatics to avoid an attack of opportunity for entering a threatened square.

Crag started as Esme laid a hand on his shoulder and he was suddenly surrounded by shimmering green smoke. By the stone! She's a black-souled witch!

D'oh! Edited to remove action.

My initiative modifier is +5.
Also, Enlarge Person is a full round casting.

Bertholdt takes the full measure of the threat approaching. I must take care of the one to my right first! He invokes the Lady of Graves grace, funnelling the energy into his limbs. A pale ivory glow swirl around his fingers, dancing wisps of smoke.

A sense of calm and readiness fills him as he takes the martial stance of the Snake.

SwA: Snake Style
StA: Gentle Rest

It's amazing how quickly I can forget these things. I should reference the CRB more often...

Alrighty, so I need Cass to post his Surprise round action and then we'll be good to go. Additionally, Esme and Jonakar have top init before monsters so they can go ahead and post their Round 1 actions as well now.

As far as Esme casting Enlarge Person, since she has top Init it won't be an issue getting it off to start, between surprise and Round 1 actions. With Crag's init being dead last though, given his intended stance in combat my suggestion is for the surprise round Crag moves to where he wants to be and Esme follows him. Then Esme can cast EP on Crag as her Round 1 and he'll actually be in place to have it be useful. If that's what you two want to do, let me know and I'll run with that.

If I'm not mistaken, I'm at initiative 15, same as D, given my +5 mod instead of +1. I'm fine if you don't wish to change it for this time around.

Doh! Somehow I missed that this was a surprise round. I was waiting for the baddies to go.

Cass draws his scimitar, sets his buckler and whispers reassuringly to Eustace. The scimitar glows with the cool bluish-white light of moonlight, casting shadows across the ground.

"Well now. This is a proper welcoming committee, is it not?"

I'm goood with that if Esme is.

Bert, did you recently clean up your profile or did I miss it originally cause I'm too fast lol? Either way, since we just started and nothing's really happened yet it's no trouble to adjust. So you, Esme and Jonakar will all go in Round 1, so you can post your Round 1 action as well.

No, I didn't clean it up.

Bertholdt, dropping his center and moving low, meandering like a snake, approaches the undead in the alley. (25 ft to D)

Your work, My Lady of Graves... Judgement of Justice

Unarmed Strike vs Flat-Footed: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 1 = 201d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 and staggered for 3 rounds from Gentle Rest.

SwA: Judgement
MvA: 25 feet
StA: Strike with delivered touch attack (Gentle Rest)
If he's not flat-footed, Bertholdt would have just simply tried to touch it.

Bertholdt, I don't think you can attack the Deathlock in the alley unless its with a reach attack. During the surprise round I moved into the square closest to it and there's no room behind it.

Having the spell-casting abomination cornered in the alley, Jonakar raises his shield and slams it into the Eldritch Horror. As the shield connects with the undead, Jonakar gives a grunt of exertion and then chops his long sword down in a follow through. Full Attack vs Flat Footed

Power Attack Roll: Harbinger 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Power Attack Roll: Spiked Shield of Bashing 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Damage Roll: Harbringer 1d8 + 13 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 13 + (4, 2) = 24
Damage Roll: Spiked Shield of Bashing 1d8 + 11 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 11 + (1, 5) = 24
Cornugon Smash (Intimidate) 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
Total Damage: 48

DMJ, I want to ask you about undead and the intimidation ability. I understand that undead are immune to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms). I ask because Jonakar is built to use Intimidate, and I wanted to know if it would be useable versus intelligent undead.

Oups! Ok, switch to one right in front of me then.

Changeling White-Haired Witch 1/Hexcrafter Magus 1, HP: 12/12, AC: 12/11/11, SV: 2/1/4, , INIT: +1, CMD: 15, ATT: Hair +4 w/grapple, PERC: 0, STLTH: 1, SPEC: +2 bluff vs men, claws, spells

I will go with what you said. Initially, I had only taken a 5' step to begin casting on Crag, but if the other is better, that's fine. 8)

Esme stays behind Crag as he moves while Samantha moves off the side of the road to where it seems safe. Ariadne looks down from her perch on the building, watching everyone intently to learn their style and skills.

Pulling her shawl tighter, she prepares to give an enemy the evil eye (-2 AC, DC 19 Will, Duration - 1 w/save, 9 w/o save) during her next available standard action. She will use this curse on the following player's opponent (in order of preference):

1. Anything that moves close to her, bypassing Crag.
2. The Warlock
3. Berthold's Opponent
4. Crag's Opponent

Before it even has a chance to move, Jonakar destroys the dethlock in front of him. You all watch in quiet terror as the undead forms ahead of you move forward, fists slamming down toward you. Even more disturbing is that 3 more zombies come bursting out of the buildings ahead of you.

As one of them moves to attack, Bertholdt manages to land a fist against its chest and although the doughy flesh seems to absorb most of the impact, it still seems to hault the creature's movement.

Map link updated.

Bert, you weren't in range of any of them so I had you move up and "ready" to hit one that came close, using your pre-posted rolls. You wouldn't hit vs Touch at that point but you still hit with the 20 you got. Unfortunately their DR stopped most of your damage but you do stagger one of them, canceling its attack against you.

Crag due to your Large size you might get an AoO against one of the zombies. You can either post it now or just include it when your Round 1 turn comes up. Either way, if you somehow manage to drop one of the zombies I'll adjust accordingly.

Attack 1 vs Bert: 1d20 ⇒ 1, Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6, Bert Fort save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Attack 2 vs Bert: 1d20 ⇒ 11, Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7, Bert Fort save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Attack 1 vs Crag: 1d20 ⇒ 1, Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6, Bert Fort save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Attack 2 vs Crag: 1d20 ⇒ 3, Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7, Bert Fort save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Result:
Bert is hit for 7 damage.
Crag is missed.

Cass is up.

Also as a quick note, Jonakar you forgot to subtract from your attack rolls for Power Attacking. It wouldn't have mattered given your rolls but just a reminder for going forward.

Cass spurs Eustace forward, stopping beside Crag. He brandishes his scimitar, its cool blue light mimicking the Moon's shine. "It is a pity you are forced to walk, dear friends! Now is the time for you to rest, so lie down once more and be at peace!" Cass channels positive energy to harm the undead! Will DC 15 for half damage! Channel Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5) = 15

DMJ: Actually I did account due to me having a favored enemy: Undead. I'll post an action when I get home

Bertholdt, watching the zombie trying to connect with a blow, uses his snake style to avoid it. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22

Noticing how little impact his strike has, he switches his finger placement to make a piercing strike. He lashes out with great fury at one of the zombies that attacked him, then retreats towards Cass.

Flurry with Judgement: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 = 161d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Flurry with Judgement: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 9 + 1 = 211d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Five-foot step in diagonal to get near Cass. 7 HP pending on Snake Style.

The two carcass eaters move forward, their dirty claws seeking your flesh.

Attack on Crag: 1d20 ⇒ 12, Damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Attack on Cass: 1d20 ⇒ 18, Damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Result:
Crag is missed.
Cass is clawed for 3 damage.

Crag is up.

As the first of the zombies came shambling towards him, Crag brought the full weight of the enlarged sledge hammer down on its head.

Adjustments:
Attack Adjustment - Power Attack w/ Furious Focus (-0/-2), Defensive Stance (+4 STR), Enlarged (+2 STR, -1 Attack), Favored Enemy (Undead) (+2).

Damage Adjustment - Power Attack +6, Defensive Stance (+4 STR), Enlarge Person (+2 STR), Favored Enemy (Undead) (+2 damage).

Attack of Opportunity on Zombie w/Sledge: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33
Damage: 3d6 + 19 ⇒ (5, 3, 1) + 19 = 28

As the rest of the undead horde surrounded him, another three of the shambling horrors burst from the abandoned tenement to attack Bertholdt. Cassimius appeared beside him and unleashed a powerful wave of life energy. The two dog-like creatures rushed to attack, their filthy claws tearing the flesh from the gnome.

Oh, no you don't, you filthy mongrels! Gravel, now!

Full Attack - Boulder Helmet: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Second Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

Celestial Earth Elemental

The elemental burst out of the ground beside the second canine horror, pushing it away from the injured gnome.

Esme steps over to the door of the abandoned building, 10 feet away. Her eyes flash emerald from beneath her shawl and she calls out in a clear voice,

"Eu numesc jos puterea văduvei de a lega web ceai!"

Withdrawing her hand from her sleeve, a slight wisp of webbing fades into green vapor as giant green strands of webbing leap from the near corner of the northwest building.

Spoiler:
DC 18 Reflex save during first round in web
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect webs in a 20-ft.-radius spread
Duration 10 min./level (D)
Saving Throw Reflex negates; see text; Spell Resistance no

The green light fades as the webs solidify leaving white cords of webbing, as thick as cable, over all of the undead saving the one to the far east. The webs brush right up to the noses of both Crag and Berthold but go no further.

Her spell complete, Esme quickly moves 5 feet back to the SW, once again beside Crag.

Spoiler:
Esme has no ranks in Knowledge Religion. I believe this means that she can recognize obvious undead as such, though not what kind. I have therefore not looked at the spoiler notes and have missed the general descriptions of the monsters. I'm assuming they are all some form of zombie.

Z Will saves: 1d20 ⇒ 19, 1d20 ⇒ 7, 1d20 ⇒ 18, 1d20 ⇒ 12, 1d20 ⇒ 14, 1d20 ⇒ 5

You all rush forward to face the undead menace. Jonakar wastes no time in dispatching the dethlock, the undead sorcerer collapsing at his feet.

Crag grows to monstrous size with Esme's spell and flails around him with his boulder helmet, crushing the two filthy creatures beneath him. Gravel attempts to push one of the zombies away but isn't able to move the undead monster.

Cassimmius unleashes a blast of positive energy that singes all the zombies around although it doesn't affect the disgusting animals, one of which lands a glancing scratch on him. Bertholdt unleashes a devastating string of punches and kicks, shattering one of the zombies before him. He's able to dodge the clumsy attempts of one of the zombies to land a blow on him.

Round 2 Status
Esme: HP 54/54, AC 11
Crag: HP 78/78, AC 22
Gravel: HP: 13/13, AC 17
Bert: HP 54/54, AC 17
Cass: HP 69/72, AC 19
Jona: HP 70/70, AC 20
D: 0/19 (Dead)
Z1: HP 23/30
Z2: HP 15/30
Z3: HP 0/30 (Dead)
Z4: HP 23/30
Z5: HP 23/30
Z6: HP 0/30 (Dead)
C1: HP -6/9 (Dying)
C2: HP -7/9 (Dying)

Can't update the map at work right now but the Z numbering goes left to right on the map, so Z6 would be the one farthest to the right, etc.

We're on to Round 2. FYI, the status numbers above already include the damage results from Bert's Round 2 Flurry attack above. So I just need Esme and Jona's Round 2 actions and then I'll update with the zombies.

Esme: I need you to be a little clearer on your proposed actions, specifically keeping track of what round you want to do stuff and what round we're currently on. You posted twice above, once stating you were going to Curse someone and once about casting Web. As we figured out, your Round 1 action was to cast Enlarge on Crag, so I thought your Round 2 action would be to use the Curse as previously stated but then you posted about casting Web. Are you no longer cursing or is the Web for Round 3? Basically I just need to know what exactly your Round 2 action is.

Male Aasimar (Angelkin) Ranger 2 / Rogue (Scout) 4 / AC 21/12/20 / HP 70 / F +8 R +9 W +6 (+4 vs. death effects and +2 energy drain, negative energy, necromancy spells, blinded/dazzled effects) (+2 vs spells fm undead) / Init. +1 / Perc. +11)

Making short work of the spellcaster, Jonakar moves out of the alley. Once he reaches the main street he gives a curse under his breath. Rusing into combat versus a horde of the mindless dead. Good way to get killed... Dammit Jonakar your a fool! Rushing foward with his gleeming sword held low and shield infront of him to block any blows Jonakar weaves through the crowd of zombies to set up a flank for Bertholdt.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
I would like to set up a flank position using a double move combined with Acrobatics to get tr best possible position for round 3, due to no computer please move me where you feel best DMJ
