Sorry for the extended absence. I've been slammed at work and have been sleeping poorly so I haven't had time to make a worthy response to your posts, DM DE. Great stuff as always. :) I'm short on time (lunch break) so I'll have to settle for not responding to old stuff. :(

Absorbed as he mulls over the speeches and overwhelmed by the whirlwind of conversation around him, Ahdak very nearly misses the darting figure with its bloodied blade. Alarmed, he responds to the shouted warnings, "Yes, I see the creature! Defend those who cannot fight!" Ahdak reaches to lay a single finger on his dwarven friend's shoulder, he chants in Shoanti, "kusamala munthu uyu ndi zoipa, mizimu ya Lyrune!"

Shoanti:

Guard this man against evil, spirits of the Lyrune!

"This blessing will guard you against the blades of these fiends, friend Baldek."

The odd little dwarf leaps to his feet, also spying the goblins, and draws out the bit of wood he carries as a club, brandishing it in earnest at the thought of cracking some goblinoid skulls.

Darnak leaps from the table and starts forward ready to fight against the spreading menace of the goblin horde.

Alesta stands and draws out her weapon, looking for a target, while Nadine dithers about running away with the rest of the villagers or using her power to make a stand and save someone.

The family of Varisian peddlers dodges into a nearby pavilion, chased by Red Goblin who quickly loses interest. It turns in time to see the little dwarf monk, Darnak, approach belligerently. With a wicked cackle, the Red Goblin turns to face off with the insolent dwarf.

Yellow Goblin also sees the dwarf and moves to engage him with a swing of his wicked dogslicer, the assault is more mindless fury than an actual skillful attack, and Darnak avoids the pointy blade with ease.

After gutting the Shoanti pie-seller, White Goblin draws a blade across his throat, finishing the job. Capering with glee, the goblin then grabs a handful of pie and stuffs into its over-sized maw, chewing greedily.

Ahdak snarls angrily as the pie-seller is cruelly gutted by the madly cackling goblin. Eyes burning angrily, in the first outright display of emotion most of his companions would have seen, the shaman moves a few quick steps, before turning and chanting again in Shoanti, "Makolo, ndikupemphani kuyankha kuitana wanga! Tiyeni nyenyezi khungu awa mwankhanza nyama." With a simple flourish, he tosses a dusting of sparkling red sand at the creatures. As it leaves his hand, bright starlight bursts from thrown dust, consuming the two nearest goblins.

"We must kill these vile things quickly! No more should die this day!"

Color Spray the red and yellow gobbos with Will DC 14.

Shoanti:
Ancestors, I beg you answer my call! Let the stars blind these rabid beasts.

Edit: Look like the goblin was in the wrong place when I went to move Ahdak. I shifted his position to where he should be for the final red/yellow position. Color spray should hit those two and nothing else.

My fault for not moving the goblin timely, thanks for keeping up. Love the visual of the spell, btw!

Initial Assault - Round 1 - continued

After casting a protective spell early on, Ahdak, angered by the slaughter of innocent villagers, takes the fight to the goblins. He steps up next to Darnak and unleashes a swirling vortex of coruscating colors and patters that first hypnotizes the goblins, then begins to entrance them. Quickly, both fall to the ground, their feeble frontal cortex totally blown by the illusory spell.

Green Goblin catches the spiral of color out of the corner of his eye, and leaves off terrorizing simple villagers to go investigate. He sees the fierce dwarf and the tattooed half-orc cannily circles behind another tent, trying to get the drop on the half-orc.

So kind of these goblins to think of coin pouch by coming here A small feral grin appeared on Karl's face as he began his advance. His axe was in his right and his Quickdraw shield was covering left forearm.

The chaos of battle was all too familiar to him, like a certain type of weather he's been living under for most of his life. Still even in this disorder one could see patterns and whoever could read them best would probably come out alive and breathing.

Karl moved in a speed thar belied his size. His axe raised, the red light of the setting sun gleaming of the blade that sought another kind of crimson coat. In an instant the weapon came crashing down upon the goblin, screaming against the air as it seemed it's skull.

Baldek's blood turns sour as screams tear through the merriments. This was the Drunk's work these Goblins were defiling. His unnerving smile shifting to an unnerving scowl, Baldek rushes after Darnak, set on helping the brawler. As he passes by Adhak, he says with a mocking grin: "Nice sparkles! But you're boring the crowd to sleep..."

Double move.

Initial Assault - Round 1 - concluded

AS the rest of the crowd is scattering pell-mell or entranced by the pretty colors cast by the orcish shaman, Sarvo notices the sneaky goblin coming up behind his mates. With a cat-like rush and leap, the bodyguard readies his weapon and shield, burying his blade deep in the goblin's midsection. The goblin quivers but just won't quite die.

With the Green Goblin fully engaged, Darnak sets out to rid the churchyard of the rest of the pests. He rushes across the crowded space, zig-zagging through the careening rush of villagers and ending up just short of the goblins positions.

Leaving off his ransacking of the pie vendor's cart, Blue Goblin turns to face the onrushing Darnak, a gleeful smile on his face. Dwarfy, die like dog. Bleed in the street!" it mutters, moving to strike but loses its grip on the blade thanks to pie-covered fingers, and as the goblin fumbles for his weapon, the opportunity to strike passes.

Trying to keep her true nature hidden from the others around her, Nadine slings a hex at the already stabbed Green Goblin, making him a bit slower on the defensive than he had been.

Baldek rushes forward, trying to keep pace with his dwarven brother, but he always seems to step just into a fleeing townsperson, rather then deftly avoiding them like Darnak.

Horrified at the evilness taking place before here, Alesta calls out a warning in her strange native tongue that makes the crowd part before her and the church bells peal. Rushing to stop the goblin killers, the aasimar cannot make an effective attack.

As the sun continues its decline in the west and the shadows stretch long over Sandpoint's new cathedral, goblins swarm the yard, screaming, stomping and stabbing everything in sight. The maddening song is chanted from dozens of voices all at once:

Goblins race and Goblins jump; Goblins slash and goblins bump. Burn the skin and mash the head. Goblins here and you be dead!"

White Goblins rushes towards the off-balance Alesta, trying to come in low under guard and gut the defiant aasimar. While Alesta is able to avoid the worst of the blow, she does take a wound in the belly for 3hp dmg.

The half-orc shaman smiles as his hypnotic pattern of lights and colors works to amazing effect against the two nearest goblins. There happen to be many more ransacking the village, so he grips the handle of his morningstar and turns to face the one that has crept up behind. Swinging ruthlessly, the shaman's blow is parried by the fading Green Goblin. Knowing he's not a combat expert, Ahdak steps away from the fight looking to where his skills can be of use later.

The mortally wounded goblin flings himself on Sarvo, stabbing furiously at the longshanks as his last drops of blood seep out onto the churchyard grass. As The cagey fighter easily avoids the blow, the goblin falls down spent and dies.

I appreciate the business you brought me and for handing it all on a silver plater by killing yourself Karl turned away from the dead goblin and surveyed their small warzone, so far it seemed like the tide of battle favored them but he knew the tides of battle could shift and swallow them all in the whirlpool of defeat, so for now he’d press that advantage for as long as possible and that meant not giving the goblins any inkling that they could turn this around and lucky for him that also meant doing his job as Alesta's bodyguard.

The merc inhaled deeply then launched himself in manner that resembled the charge of a raging bull; wild but focused on it's purpose. In little time Sarvo stood before the goblin that assaulted his client. The bounty hunter used the momentum of his dash to further strengthen his rising diagonal slash. Karl let the blade rise long after its initial Strike, twisted his wrist then brought the axe down brutally on the small raider's head.

Though they seemed dazed for the moment, Nadine knew there was no such thing as a "safe" goblin. Having heard stories of the Goblinblood Wars, Nadine wanted to make sure that these violent little creatures stayed down.

The battle if one could still call it that was nearing it's end. Only one goblin was in any shape to fight back and the one's that were still breathing will more than likely stop sooner or later, courtesy of his new companions in battle. Still it was Karl's policy to not take it easy until the job was done, and as long as there was one of these buggers standing that job wasn't over.

Karl's free hand gripped the lower part of the handle of the battle axe, fitting snugly next to his right. The bounty hunter went forward his eyes on the goblin that had previously injured his client You made me look like an amateur today, I have to admit that does make me a bit livid The towering form of Sarvo cast a shadow over the fleeing goblin and for a moment it seemed that Karl would not move from his spot. Pretty sure the white goblin is down. Darnak delays because I don't think any more are left. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Initial Assault - Round 3 - concluded

Seeing the battle well in hand and not seeing a place where he can be of much value yet, Ahdak delays pending the actions of the others. That's just a weak DM-PC move but his actions are likely not necessary this fight.

Sarvo rushes into the melee with the lone remaining goblin, his axe gripped tightly in both hands. With one powerful swing the man chops neatly into the goblin, ending his life in the stroke. And ending the fight.

Blows by Nadine and Baldek finish off the unconscious goblins ending the immediate threat in the churchyard.

That is the last of the goblins in this fight. Defeating them earns the group 113xp. Since this AP is set at fast advancement, the group is at 113/1300 or about 9% of the way to level 2.

With the chaotic scene in the chuchyard at a standstill for now, the heroes stop and get their breath and bearings. Just a few moments ago, this was a peaceful scene, with children playing and families enjoying the cool evening, but in a shattered moment it all hell broke loose. Now villagers lie murdered in the street, tables are overturned, survivors run pell-mell through the ruined churchyard. Here and there, wounded moan in pain, and the hideous shrieking singing of the goblins continues in other parts of the village.

Suddenly a blooming burst of flame erupts from a nearby wagon. Another group of goblins has found the fuel and kindling for the planned bonfire, and have started a blaze that only goblins could love.

Another troupe of goblins, flaming brands and daggers in hand, and led by a whip-wielding singing goblin, have made their presence known at teh other end of the chruchyard. Time to get back in gear.

Sorry didn't realize the white goblin was dead. :( It was still on the map so I assumed it wasn't dead yet.

Also where are the goblin counters?

Goblin Pyros - Round 1

25 Green Goblin
20 Sarvo
19 Nadine
19 Yellow Goblin
17 White Goblin
15 Purple Chanter
14 Red Goblin
14 Ahdak
14 Baldek
7 Blue Goblin
5 Darnak
3 Alesta

Green Goblin leans in and takes a burning brand from the new fire, swinging it to and fro mesmerized by the flames. Then the little runt moves off towards a nearby building looking to spread the fire.

With that, Sarvo and Nadine are up in the new combat

Snapping his head around to see what all the commotion is, Darnak takes a deep breath. "Looks like we've still got our work cut out for us," he says to those near him. "And I'm thinkin' we'd better stop that one first," he motions with a nod at the one heading for a building with a lit torch.

Actually I think we are post sharing (my mom's words not mine: when two people post at the same time).

Alesta agreed.

"These foul creatures have caused enough death today! We shall put a stop to their evil before more innocents are harmed!"

With axe still dripping blood from his latest kill, Sarvo turned to look at the latest group to join their little production of violence and pain. His eyes were greeted by the sight of flames consuming a wagon, much to the glee of the goblins that started said fire The quality of the Sandpoint guards is showing itself right here...thee people had every right to be jolly and complacent with hard and alert men like those at the gate Deciding to leave the sarcastic remark to himself...for now, Karl began moving in the direction of the flames and their newest foes, the blazing wagon casting a new shadow for him as he drew closer.

"Lets not keep our friends waiting I am sure their sick of their miserable lives" He said to Darnak and Alesta, his tone somewhere between amusement and cruelty.

Karl's shield fell into place at his forearm once more and he pounded it twice with the broad side of his axe, in hopes the noise will attract the goblins attention. The bounty hunter looked the closest goblin in the eye and then swung his axe hard at thin air, causing what blood that hasn't hardened to splatter in front of him. A sinister smile appeared on Sarvo's face as he kept his eyes on his latest target.

Intimidating the red goblin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Startled by the appearance of the second goblin pack, Nadine stumbles back a few paces and turns to run. But then she stops herself, shakes her head, and turns back around with her dagger in a defensive position. She wouldn't be able to live with herself if she ran when she could have helped. Besides, this group seemed more than capable enough to repel these vile party-crashers. And if she really needed to escape, she wouldn't feel too bad high-tailing it. No one would blame her..

Move back fifteen feet and ready an action to attack any one who attacks Nadine

The weak DMPC is acceptable! Ahdak helped with some control at the start. :)

Ahdak watches with calm satisfaction as the last of the goblins fall beneath his newfound companion's blades. Before he can offer assistance to the wounded, the clatter and shrieks of more goblins makes him aware of the second band. Sighing in vexation, he readies his morning star as he trots towards the new threat, calling to his companions, "Come, fellows, our gristly work is not done yet."

Move action 20 feet towards Sarvo and ready an attack with my morningstar if I can't directly attack something (as I go after the gobbos).

Readied morningstar attack: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Readied morningstar damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Goblin Pyros - Round 1 - continued

Seeing the blaze ignite the churchyard as the sun sets, Sarvo turns to face the new foes. Moving as quickly as he can through the chaotic scene, he bashes his weapon against his quick-draw shield, trying to frighten the newly arrived goblins, but his distance, plus the presence of the caterwauling goblin singer encourages the fire-loving goblins and they ignore the man for now.

Karl, remember the diagonal move rules where the second diagonal counts as double space. I moved you back a couple squares as a single 30' move action in a diagonal line only covers 4 squares.

At first spooked by the sudden conflagration and the presence of more bloodthirsty goblins, Nadine steps back, then steels herself, buoyed by the presence of such quality fighters. Readying her small blade, the witch stands a bit taller, watching out to defend herself if any come near.

Also lighting a wooden stake, Yellow Goblin sets off for the nearest flammable structure, a nearby pavilion where a Varisian merchant and family lie huddled unaware of the oncoming flames.

Blissfully enraptured by the dancing flames in the otherwise darkened town, White Goblin takes a flaming stave and also looks to spread the fire to a nearby building.

Directing the goblins to spread the lovely fire, the songstress continues her horrific singing, which seems to make the goblins dance and caper even more.

The same pavilion where the Varisian merchant lies huddled is set alight by Red Goblin who tosses his staff into the tent, cruelly gesturing with one scaly finger for the family to come out, while he wields his rusty dogslicer, ready for the final blow.

Moving toward Sarvo who seems to be leading the charge, Ahdak readies his morningstar in case a goblin comes near, but all the little rascals seem to be transfixed with the fire and aren't actively engaging in melee just yet.

Baldek up now, Darnak and Alesta up soon and can post anytime.

Baldek rushes towards the flames, then thinks better of it, and switches direction, aiming for the building, hoping to use it as cover.

"FIRE! FIRE! GET SOME WATER HERE!!!" he shouts, hoping to draw some help.

"Right behind ya, lad." Darnak takes off toward the goblins, trying to get there as quick as possible.

Double moved next to Ahdak.
