Yeah, with no prior healing that is going to take Cerastes down to -1 and he'll be suffocating automatically.
Failing to grab hold of the flying scroll, Cerastes instead has the tables turned on him as it wraps around his head while at the same time slicing the artery open in his neck. The big man collapses like a sack of potatoes while blood pumps freely from the grievous wound...

Rosalind watches the big man fall, then carefully times her strike to catch the casing of the scroll as it falls past, hoping to knock it off her friend. Her wounds close with a rush of divine grace as she asks for Kurgess's blessing.
"Deep in the 7th, runners on first and third, Kurgess this is the time!
We're going deep! She swings, it's out of here!"
Rosalind 29/34

Sirusk |

Sirusk quickly moves to flank with Rosalind, dropping his off-hand tonfa and drawing his kukri as he moves. He then attempts to slice the living scroll into tatters with his sawtooth sabre.
If scroll is not grappling Cerastes, Sirusk will attempt to tumble around into position.

Which holds a "tablet of languages lost" (See Campaign Info tab) and three scroll tubes containing a scroll of align weapon, a scroll of halt undead, a scroll of knock, and a wand of lesser restoration (10 charges), respectively.
Along with these items is a second stone tablet written in Ancient Osiriani hieroglyphs.

Rosalind Almati Thornbright |

"Let's get you patched up, where did we put that wand?"
Use enough charges to get the party to full
"Interesting, these languages are ancient."
Rosalind looks around the room once more.
"Whatever disturbed this place clearly didn't find all of it's secrets."

Rosalind Almati Thornbright |

"I could chant them in a pinch but much better to let you use them without Kurgess's intercession."
She looks at the remaining doors.
"Where next? From the sound of the guardian spirit, I'd be tempted to look for the foundation."
Rosalind gazes at the floor speculatively.

![]() |

5d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 1, 2, 8, 1) + 5 = 25 5 charges later Cerastes is almost fully healed. Who's keeping track of the wand?
Cerastes looks over at the destroyed scroll to verify it no longer is a threat before picking himself off the floor slowly with a grunt of effort, "Thank you Rose, I feel better now. What did we find?" The ancient stone tablet with glyphs catches his attention and he begins to study it.

DM-Camris |

You can determine that Djederet II was pharaoh of Osirion sometime around –1600 ar, over 6,000 years ago.
You can identify the city mentioned in the tablet as Wati, and knows that Djederet II founded the city.
Also, you think that if you spent a few hours fixing up the library, you can recover some valuable scripts and scrolls.
As for exits, there is an open exit to the East, and you can go back into the room you left and take the north way out there.

"Hmmm, this symbol here represents pharaoh, while this one over here is the name Deret II...oh wait...no, no....actually this here goes with it and is the first part of his name: Djederet II. If I recall correctly he was pharaoh of Osirion sometime around –1600 ar, over 6,000 years ago." He frowns at the script, "I unfortunately am not familiar enough with that era to tell you much more.

Sirusk |

Sirusk picks up his weapons and assists with searching and cleanup as best he can.
"Csertainly some interesting findsz. I also find it odd that whatever disrupted this place didn't find these thingsz. Maybe the other roomsz will complete the puzzle."

Rosalind Almati Thornbright |

She looks over the room, then pokes her head out the door to the East.
"I think we'll come back to clean this up. A few more hours are unlikely to disturb it further, and we still have the rest of the building to examine."

![]() |

Ah, didn't see the link. Thanks for the heads up.
"THe text actually translates to: "By Royal Order of Pharoah Djederet II,
...the high priest of our blessed temple shall take this relic to our new city where the asp and crook join and ensure it is never discovered. Treat it with reverence, but conceal it with your most trusted secrets and valuable treasures. Do not attempt its destruction. Do not be temted by its powers. Let our scandal remain forgotten until this obscenity can be undone..." The big man rubs his chin, "Perhaps the Ahkhat of this place guards the relic."

Sirusk |

"Anyone know what that all meansz? Who was thisz Pharaoh and what isz the assp and crook?"

Rosalind Almati Thornbright |

"Trouble"
Rosalind says succinctly, readying her greatsword.
"At least now we know why the place looks tossed. Let's find our way further in. Whatever obscenity an ancient Osirian considers too dangerous worries me greatly. From our previous experience, they weren't long on caution."
She heads east, motioning her friends to follow.

DM-Camris |

Gazing out through the eastern opening, you see off to your right...
Space and elevation lend a sense of past grandeur and majesty to this large space.
A large, star-shaped fountain with a circular pool in the center sits in the middle of the chamber.
The bottom of the pool is decorated with a great mosaic eye made from tiny colored tiles, and hieroglyphs are carved into the paving stones ringing the fountain.
Two rows of columns support the ceiling overhead, which continues to rise to a domed ceiling in the northern portion of the chamber.
At the far end of the hall, a massive statue with arms raised overlooks the entire length of the temple from atop a raised dais.
East and west of the fountain, two sets of stone double doors exit the chamber.
The ceiling in this area is 20 feet high.
And off to your left...
Rising to a 40-foot-high dome above the dais in the north half of the hall, the ceiling rises to form the primary cathedral of Nethys. Three flights of short, steep steps climb up to a large platform elevated 5 feet above the floor.
At the rear of this platform, a 15-foot-tall statue of Nethys, half white and half black, stands atop a raised octagonal dais.
The top of the main platform is tiled in black marble, while the octagonal dais is a striking white, and the ring that separates them is tiled in red.
Lay worshipers were confined to the main floor of the Hall of Protection.

"Those are representations of the god Nethys. This hall is the common area where anyone could come to pray, while over there, up those steps, was reserved for only sworn priests and the like."
He'll use detect magic and do a general sweep of the area from where we are.

Rosalind Almati Thornbright |

"Two minds and two faces, two hands and two places. Ah, nethys."
Rosalind seems sad a moment.
"Kurgess's lore insists that nethys was not always mad, he was apparently a fun fellow, once upon a time. Now, well."
She gestures to the fused statue.
"A fitting likeness. A priest of Nethys would appreciate it, I'm sure. I don't know what the pharasman's will think of it."
Do we know if there's actually a temple/priest of nethys in the city?

Sirusk |

Once Cerastes finishes with a general visual sweep with Detect Magic, Sirusk will search about the room for traps and other things of interest.
Take 20: 27

DM-Camris |

When you get closer to the fountain...
The Ancient Osiriani hieroglyphs ringing the fountain identify it as the “Pool of Protection.”
The pool has a faint aura of abjuration and transmutation.
When tasted, the water within is cool, clean, and safe to drink.
Any spellcaster who drinks water from the pool gains a minor blessing,
allowing her to cast one spell of the abjuration school at +1 caster level and with a +1 bonus to the saving throw DC.
The effect lasts for 24 hours or until used, and the benefit can be gained only once per day.
Water removed from this room loses all magic and becomes ordinary water.
You also detect a magic source both directly North and directly South.

Inferis what do you make of it? Also, there are magic auras detectable in both the northern and southerly directions."

Sirusk |

Take 20 Perception check from above
Wha .... was that a face? Didn't attack, maybe it isn't undead. Looked horrid though...
Sirusk continues making small talk with Cerastes while moving closer to the oracle. "Thesez wounds are not quite healing quickly my friendsz. May I have a blast from the healing wand?" While moving and talking with his back towards the curtain, he nods to Rosalind and Cerastes, motioning towards the curtain and mouthing, "Company".
Sirusk is actually pretty low on hp: 9/24

Rosalind Almati Thornbright |

"A good idea. I still feel like we should at least alert the Nethyans about this place. It seems to still be consecrated."
She looks around the room examining the stability of the roof.
"Although I suppose it's sturdy enough"

![]() |

Sense motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Cerastes gives Sirusk a quizzical look, "What? You think we should head that way?" He looks in the direction Sirusk is pointing, "Why? I see nothing special?"
and...low bluff roll and sense motive rolls combined strike!

DM-Camris |

Peering northward, you see nothing out of the ordinary.
Then, the sound of grinding and clinking turned your attention south.
Under the great doors was sliding a strange thing.
The materials of the building stretch and pull as if made of elastic,
taking on the form of an earthen figure with thick stony arms, a
roughly hewn torso, and a chiseled, vaguely humanoid head.
It stood up, a little on the small side; maybe dwarven in stature. It's blank face turned this way and that, as if it had noticed something but couldn't perceive where it was precisely.

Sirusk |

K(dungeoneering): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Sirusk ignores the face peeking from behind the statue to the north and turns his attention to the rumbling sound to the south. Was this the same thing I just saw behind the statue? Are there two of them?
Ah, thisz seemsz like the thing you all were talking about earlier, no? This Anklet ... no ... Ahkhat, yesz! Are we in danger?

![]() |

Cerastes nods in response to Sirusk's question, "Yes, that is indeed an ahkhat. Perhaps if we show respect toward this structure it will understand we mean it no harm." Cerastes cautiously begins to approach the Ahkhat with open arms, "We are here to protect and preserve the heritage of this site, we mean this temple no harm."
As he thinks to himself, We might "liberate" a few of the more valuable items contained within your home though.

Sirusk |

Yesz, well and good. We may have other company behindz the statue I wasss trying to point out. Though its face seemed maybe similar to this creature in the quick look I had

DM-Camris |

At Cerastes' spoken words, the Akhat's head snapped around to, uh, look, at Cerastes. Appearing to take no notice of the words, it moved deliberately towards him, appearing like a humanoid wave of stone and earth.
Once close enough, it swung a massive fist to hit Cerastes.
