Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
"Assuming we can spot our "recipient" alone, delivering the message will be most easily done.
We do after all possess an item dedicated to delivering messages.
Should we be able to find a slightly higher elevation we may be able to spot the room and make sure that he is alone."
Grumenio "Nio" Venaticus |
"I can deal with dogs. If we stop by a butcher shop on the way I can get something to bribe them with."
Does 50gp for some meat to use as a pseudo-MW item for Handle Animal work, DM?
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
"It may not be necessary, though it is better to have something and not need it than to need something and not have it.
Ideally, once he receives the message, he may be able to leave the confines of compound and meet us with no trouble at an opportune time."
I forget, but the silver ravens could be used to deliver messages no?
Grumenio "Nio" Venaticus |
Going there now would give us time to be patient about casing the joint, but we might want to split up. Nio doesn't have Kn:Local or I'd roll it to see if it's likely we'd be spotted or totally out of place in that neighborhood. Can I sub a Kn:Nobility check?
Idril Ssethan |
Idril wrapped a scarf over her hair and stooped a little, as if she were older that she was.
Disguise: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
The plan is to case the joint from outside; see if our good Captain forgot to tell us something of the locale.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Grumenio "Nio" Venaticus |
Nio follows along quietly, trusting his magic to mask his identity while he keeps his eyes peeled for any useful bits of information.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
DM Bloodgargler |
With the initial scouting, you find the west gate to the estate (which faces the district border wall) is actually very well hidden from the rest of the district. Though patrol frequency appears to be close to doubled. You should have ample time to do whatever you decide to do to gain entry.
Unfortunately, (apart from the main gate on the East side) the hedges inside the estate walls are too thick to see the grounds. Only the second floor is visible.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
1d100 ⇒ 21
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
The obvious thing to do then is to see if we can spot the recipients room, and then when he seems to be alone and nobody would be watching, we attach the message to a silver raven and send it in.
And wait for a reply.
DM Bloodgargler |
Clouds roll in, and there is a light mid-morning rain. After trekking across Kintargo again.. paying your toll at Bleakbridge, you all enter the Greens District. Beyond that, you make you way around the estate toward the west gate.
I'll take disguise, bluff, or stealth checks from each of you.. whether looking like you "belong" in the district, inconspicuous, or hiding. Just need more successes than failures from the group
1d100 ⇒ 73
DM Bloodgargler |
You see the second floor, but not much else through the vine covered wrought iron fence, and the high and thick hedges lining the interior.
Looking for where Marquel's room might be, there are a couple windows that could match the crude map Captain Sargaeta gave to you.
After Indio releases the silver raven bearing the message, you see it fly to a second story window lightly flapping up against it until it opens. You wait in the light drizzle of rain for several minutes before the raven returns. This time it bears a response.
“Message received, but I cannot leave on my own. I shall
await your escort this midnight, and shall arrange to leave
the western gate unlocked for your convenience. Take care
to mind father’s devilish hound. My quarters, to which I am
confined, shall be lit by two red candles.”
Grumenio "Nio" Venaticus |
"Ah. Not a 'dog,' then. We'll likely have to do something other than feed it some treats."
From what we can see of the second story exterior, is there a place to throw up and anchor a rope?
DM Bloodgargler |
You make your way across the city again... crossing Bleakbridge, and passing into Old Kintargo as the light rain ceases. There, in the southwest corner of the district, you come to the charred ruins of the Lucky Bones. There is little more than rubble, a tangle of timbers, and three partially collapsed brick fireplaces.
As Nio leads you toward one of the fireplaces (where the hidden entrance was told to be), you hear humming.. and see what appears to be a drunken sailor staggering in your direction from the opposite alleyway, singing an old Chelish sailor’s song in a terrible off-key voice as he stumbles along.
“She promised meeee!
To faithful beeeee!
But all that changed by 'hic' morning
I went a-deck
'Hic'
A drunken wreck!
Her new red smile, a waaaarning."
He rights his sailor's hat with the hand holding his open bottle.. it pours a shot's worth across his brim as he nods to you.. he then looks up to the clouds as he sees the dripping. His other hand rests on the pommel of his cutlass. The unshaven man smiles - more gaps than teeth....
"Good day good day.. heh.. the rain's returned, aye?" He looks around teetering with a sluggish gaze. "But no shelter here... t'would appear."
Grumenio "Nio" Venaticus |
"Good afternoon, sir." Nio nods in the direction of the Lucky Bones' charred ruins. "You come here a lot?"
Sense Motive to see if this guy is on the level?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Erodel Voralius |
Erodel nods. Before glancing around, looking for any sign of an ambush or the "drunkard's" friends.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 2 = 22 (favored community, add an additional +2 if the ambushers/friends are human from favored enemy)
Grumenio "Nio" Venaticus |
"Oh, the same. Out for an afternoon constitutional. Taking in the sights." Nio nods at the ruins. "What happened here?"
Do I need a Bluff check here?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
DM Bloodgargler |
Bgrae: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Erodel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Idril: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Indio: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Nio: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Stricia: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
drunk: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
The sailor starts to grin as he hears Stricia, then wider as Nio tries "acting natural". He suddenly tosses his bottle in your direction, and reaches under his jacket... the action reveals a pistol on the hip opposite his cutlass.
Round 1
Erodel and Idril up
(I'll fix it later tonight.. rubble is difficult terrain.)
Erodel Voralius |
Seeing the "drunkard" going for a pistol, Erodel charges him, taking a heavy swing of his blade in the process.
Charging straight ahead.
Power Attack Falchion: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 15 (charge, favored enemy - assuming he is human, vs. FF AC?)
Damage: 2d4 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 9 + 4 = 19 (favored enemy)
And the "awesome" d20 rolls continue...
Idril Ssethan |
Round 1
Standard
With a fading arpeggio, Idril casts Vanish and disappears from sight.
Move
Idril moves directly North five squares as quietly as she can, her bladed scarf falling into her hands like an old friend.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 11 + 10 = 33
DM Bloodgargler |
The drunken sailor levels his pistol at Erodel, and fires into his chest. He immediately brings his cutlass around to hack at Erodel's side.
pistol: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + (5) + 1 = 14
cutlass: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Pistol firing in melee provokes AoO from Erodel and Idril
Round 1 cont'd
Bastargrae, Indio, Nio, Stricia up
Stricia |
Stricia immediately moves forward to stand next to Erodel (and flank with Idril) and attempt to grapple the enemy.
Grapple with flank: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 11 + 2 = 26
Erodel Voralius |
AoO Power Attack Falchion: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 16 (charge, favored enemy)
Damage: 2d4 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 9 + 4 = 17
Seriously? F#+~ this dice roller...
Grumenio "Nio" Venaticus |
"Get him, boy!" Hasta dashes forward, quick as lightning, sweeping past Erodel's right side to bite at the sailor's flank. Nio, meanwhile, takes a few steps past Bastargrae to get a clear shot then fires a flurry of arrows at the their target.
I looked through the posts but can't seem to find what that grey rectangle is. Is that more difficult terrain? If Hasta can flank with Erodel, that would be ideal- he has enough movement to not care too much if the grey rectangle is difficult terrain. If they rectangle is impassable, he'll move to the square NE of Erodel, adjacent to the sailor.
Nio 5' steps 1 square NW then Rapid Shot.
Hasta bite+Flanking: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 He'll either be flanking with Erodel or Idril, preference to Erodel.
Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Nio Rapid Shot 1+PBS+Coordinated Shot: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Nio Rapid Shot 2+PBS+CS: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 What is up with these dice?
Dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Idril Ssethan |
Why would one guy try to pick on all of us together? she wondered.
Idril almost reacted to the pistol shot, but she held her hands still (thus also keeping her Vanish invisibility for now).
... unless the shot was a signal?
She began to observe her surroundings, suspicious of other ambushers.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Huhn; guess we're clear...
