Well, it's slowed for every two gallons that hit it, which is exactly how much one 1st-level Create Water produces. I'll say that they accumulate over the course of a round until its turn.

The sandling takes on more water, and it looks like it will take more time for it to shake off the effect.

Ptolem, Laleh, Kael? It's only immune to sleep effects, so Ptolem can still try to Confuse it.

Elementals are immune to Mind Affecting Effects as one of their Type based Traits.

Eh?

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

Don't mind me. Forgot Elementals are actually immune to everything BUT Mind Affecting. Easy to get those mixed up.

Ptolem puts the mind whammy on the sand thingy.

Will DC 15 or be Confused for 1 round.

Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

The sand thingy shakes off its confusion.

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

"Damn. It's too stupid to confuse. Remind me never to try that on Kael."

Female Human Inquisitor 2 | HP 12/12 | AC 17, Touch 13, FF 14 | CMD 14 | Fort +4, Ref + 3, Will +5 | Init +5 | Perception +6 | Sense Motive +7

Laleh, not wanting to be groped by a sand monster, throws a piece of brick at it instead.

BRICK GO: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The brick sails right past the sandling. You feel like it may be laughing at you.

Kaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeel

HP: 11/17 AC: 15 FF: 11 Touch: 10 CMD: 12| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +7| Perception +6| Heal +11| Today's Spells: L0: Detect Magic/Virtue/Enhanced Diplomacy/Create Water L1: Cure Light Wounds x3 D: Sanctuary - BLASTOFFS LEFT: 3

sorry

In his determination not to have his orange-like head bruised again, Kael doesn't even register Ptolem's comment. This cowardice extends further, as he loads a crossbow bolt and shoots at the handling so as not to get up close and personal.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Gais pls. Just whack it so we don't have another 6 round combat. That brick would have literally been incapable of harming it even if it had hit. DR 5 is the MINIMUM.

Edit: I'm dumb. But still.

Uh, it would've dealt bludgeoning damage, so its DR would be irrelevant.

The bolt simply sinks into the sandling's body without visibly damaging it.

The sandling lurches forward to chomp at the closest attacker, which is...1d3 ⇒ 2 Laleh!

Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Despite being slowed down, it manages to take a nasty bite out of her arm.

6 damage. Y'all up.

HP: 11/17 AC: 15 FF: 11 Touch: 10 CMD: 12| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +7| Perception +6| Heal +11| Today's Spells: L0: Detect Magic/Virtue/Enhanced Diplomacy/Create Water L1: Cure Light Wounds x3 D: Sanctuary - BLASTOFFS LEFT: 3

Kael for once in his life reacts quickly and casts cure light wounds on Laleh.

Curification: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Laleh is back to full health.

Male Half-elf Hunter 2 9/16| AC 15, T 12, FF, 13| F 4, R 5, W 2| init +2, bab +4|

"My arrows wont do a thing against this guy..."

Talos smashes with his axe

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

aaaaaaaaaa

Human Warpriest 1 | HP 17/17 | AC 19, Touch 14, FF 15 | CMD 16 | Fort +5, Ref + 4, Will +5 | Init +4 | Perception +8 | Disable Device +9 | Sense Motive +2

Sneferka creates more water on the elemental.

Seriously, I should really grab at least like a chair leg or something next time I have the opportunity...what's a whip going to do against sand?

The sandling will continue to not be fast.

Ptolaleh!

Male Human Level ?? Mechanic:

This is kind of stupid, right off the bat there are 2 baddies that get 5 hardness rating, and can potentially OHKO someone.

is the rest of the game this hard too?

Generally there is at least ONE person in the group that can actually deal damage. But it looks like everyone here is a non-damage dealer (me and Kael) or uses 1-H weapons and doesn't have Power Attack.

Maybe I SHOULD rework Ptolem into a Bloodrager or something. Keep the same attitude but be more hands-on. That would leave us without a proper Arcane caster though.

Psh, who needs arcane casters?

But yeah, looking ahead, there are a couple more enemies in this tomb alone that have some form of damage reduction. (My bad. I should have looked over this stuff a long time ago, and we could've avoided this mess.)

I say go for it. We can pause this fight while you re-work Ptolem, and then have him jump in and save the day like a hero.

2 people marked this as a favorite.
HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

"Must I do EVERYTHING myself?" Ptolem asks, rhetorically.

He flexes, and his shirt sleeves rip, revealing an impressive physique and the scale mail he had on underneath his loose clothing. He pulls out the Ranseur he totally had on him the whole time and charges at the Sandling.

Swift action activate my Snapping Turtle Stance (+1d6 damage on Shield Bashes, which I perform with the haft of my weapon). Full Round: Panther On The Hunt strike (execute a Charge with a +2 Circumstance bonus on attack/damage, don't provoke Attacks of Opportunity from movement).

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 Add +2 more if someone went around the creature and I'm Flanking.
Damage: 1d3 + 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (2) + (1) + 11 = 14 Bludgeoning.

After holding back his true power for so long, Ptolem has called upon his divine strength to smite his worthless enemies. He smacks the Sandling with the hilt of his ranseur, scattering large chunks of its body across the room.

It looks surprised, and terrified.

You brought it from full health to 5 HP in one hit. Good jerb.

Laleh?

Female Human Inquisitor 2 | HP 12/12 | AC 17, Touch 13, FF 14 | CMD 14 | Fort +4, Ref + 3, Will +5 | Init +5 | Perception +6 | Sense Motive +7

"What the- Am I still drunk from last night or something?! Did that really happen?"

Laleh puts aside fantasies about her apparently very strong party member and goes back to tossing things at the sandling.

Improvised Throw: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Laleh successfully pelts the sandling, causing it to crumble a little more.

Apparently scared for its life, it quickly sinks into the stone floor, disappearing completely.

Full withdrawl. Combat over.

HP: 11/17 AC: 15 FF: 11 Touch: 10 CMD: 12| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +7| Perception +6| Heal +11| Today's Spells: L0: Detect Magic/Virtue/Enhanced Diplomacy/Create Water L1: Cure Light Wounds x3 D: Sanctuary - BLASTOFFS LEFT: 3

holy f~+*ing shit ahahaha

Kael silently looks around to see if the sandling left the crossbow bolt behind, trying not to think about or look at Ptolem's rippling pecs. He doesn't even notice what else is in the stairway for looking at the ground.

He will write about this in his diary in the morning.

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

Not quite! Withdrawing only protects you from the first square, and I'm wielding a Reach weapon!

AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 2d4 + 9 ⇒ (2, 4) + 9 = 15 Slashing.

Ptolem mercilessly cuts down the fleeing Sandling.

"Now it won't be a problem later."

"So, moving on then?"

Human Warpriest 1 | HP 17/17 | AC 19, Touch 14, FF 15 | CMD 16 | Fort +5, Ref + 4, Will +5 | Init +4 | Perception +8 | Disable Device +9 | Sense Motive +2

Sneferka stands there, jaw hanging wide open.

"Umm...yeah. Guess so. If you'd like to lead the way?"

Male Half-elf Hunter 2 9/16| AC 15, T 12, FF, 13| F 4, R 5, W 2| init +2, bab +4|

"What the hell, I thought he was just a lanky guy!?"

"Guess I'm not really the strongest man on this team anymore...."

move on

I'm now the most charismatic on the team. We are screwed

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

"Technically you never were. I just let you believe that to deceive our competition."

Left door first then, since it seems we have two options.

Ptolem slashes at the sandling before it can burrow to safety, and its body crumbles completely.

The room to the west is a large chamber, where a tapestry hangs from a frame against the south wall; it depicts an otherworldly vista where the souls of the dead, shepherded by strange beings, enter an ethereal river ambling through space toward a landscape dominated by an impossibly tall spire. Columns sculpted in the shape of Osirian warriors wielding khopeshes stand in all four corners of the room. The floor is tiled in a white spiral pattern on a black background, and this spiral pattern is repeated on the stone double doors to the north, east (where you came from), and west.

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

"Sneferka, do that 'looking around' thing you do so well."

Human Warpriest 1 | HP 17/17 | AC 19, Touch 14, FF 15 | CMD 16 | Fort +5, Ref + 4, Will +5 | Init +4 | Perception +8 | Disable Device +9 | Sense Motive +2

Sneferka does the "looking around' thing.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

He does it very well.

Sneferka sees ALL of the nothing in this room.

However, he does find something else that requires his expertise: The northern and western doors are locked.

Male Half-elf Hunter 2 9/16| AC 15, T 12, FF, 13| F 4, R 5, W 2| init +2, bab +4|

"Cant we just bash the locks off?"

You can try.

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

While Sneferka does that, Ptolem spends some time in quiet introspection.

Have to remain in tip-top shape...these fools are dead without me...and I can't carry all the treasure myself...too bad really...

A Full-Round action on Defensive Focus to recover my expended Maneuver. If anything happens to attack us this round, I have 15 ft. Reach and my CMD is 19 (not 15) for navigating through with Acrobatics to avoid provoking.

Nothing attacks you.

HP: 11/17 AC: 15 FF: 11 Touch: 10 CMD: 12| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +7| Perception +6| Heal +11| Today's Spells: L0: Detect Magic/Virtue/Enhanced Diplomacy/Create Water L1: Cure Light Wounds x3 D: Sanctuary - BLASTOFFS LEFT: 3

Kael takes another swig of tea from his canteen, not having thought of looking around like his comrades.

also since the sandling died is my crossbow bolt retrievable now

Nope, sorry. Ammunition that hits its target are always destroyed, while ammunition that misses has a 50% chance to be recoverable.

You hit, but didn't beat its DR. Talos missed, so he can attempt to retrieve his arrow.

1 is good: 1d2 ⇒ 1

And he does!

Human Warpriest 1 | HP 17/17 | AC 19, Touch 14, FF 15 | CMD 16 | Fort +5, Ref + 4, Will +5 | Init +4 | Perception +8 | Disable Device +9 | Sense Motive +2

"Guys. Please don't bash the door."

Sneferka tries to pick the lock on the northern door.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Failed, but close.

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

"You have one more chance."

On second thought, 20 more chances. Let's assume he Takes 20 and move on. No buffs running or anything.

Sneferka unlocks both doors after a few minutes of careful picking.

North or West?

1d2 ⇒ 2

Ptolem heads to the West door.

This short hallway narrows sharply to the west, with a descending set of stairs that abruptly ends at a rough rock wall.

Two housecat-sized beetles nest just inside tunnels at the base of the staircase.

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

"Maybe they're friendly. Someone go introduce yourselves."

Human Warpriest 1 | HP 17/17 | AC 19, Touch 14, FF 15 | CMD 16 | Fort +5, Ref + 4, Will +5 | Init +4 | Perception +8 | Disable Device +9 | Sense Motive +2

"Why don't you go introduce yourself? If it turns south, apparently you can just pick one up and bludgeon the other to death with him."

HP: 23/23| AC: 19 FF: 18 Touch: 11 CMD: 17| Init: +1|Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +5| Perception +6; Aura, 10 ft.: +1 AC and Will (Morale)

"I suppose you're right. Not like I can trust any of you to make a good first impression anyway."

Ptolem moves closer.

If they DON'T attack, Ptolem simply moves past.

Edit: Or is this just a dead end? If so...any good loot in their nest I can see?
