We start!
Now it is August, 109 PA. The ashes of Tolkeen still smolder, the Coalition struggles to rebuild its forces and expand its influence, and the Federation of Magic’s leaders plot and scheme for their own run at domination.
Untold numbers of other factions do the same, both on the continent and around the globe. Still, millions struggle just to survive and build something out of the destruction and anarchy of the world.
For your first mission as a team the leaders of Castle Refuge asked you to reach the city of Granite (build on the place of the old St. Cloud), 60 miles northwest of the ruins of Tolkeen, so you can help with the evacuation of refugees from the siege.
It is an overcast day as if the sky itself is weeping for the defeat that have just occurred a couple weeks ago in the Coalition wars.
Please present yourselves, so we get to know all of the characters. I would like to know, besides of your characters particulars:
- Why do you join the heroes at Castle Refuge (why not other faction).
- Your opinion of the Coalition.
- Short term goals.
- Longer term goals.
Carl Lucian
Carl is here because he wants to help others and because something that happened in during his time in the rifts (which he does not really remember, other than flashes of certain images, the castle being one of them.) He is neutral towards the Coalition: having grown up in Chi-Town, Carl was very pro-coalition, but some things he "learned" in the rift showed him that the coalition is not the haven for mankind it claims.
As far as his goals go, Carl believes in the mission of the Tomorrow Legion and so he is focused on supporting their goals, whatever they might be. Long term, however, he would like to find out what happened to him in the Rift. He has a nagging suspicion that it is important, but everything he has tried so far to learn hasn't worked.
Burgurk
Burgurk is with Castle Refuge because it's the lesser of all the evils to choose from. He is hostile towards the Coalition because, well, they are hostile to him as a non-human.
Burgurk also supports the Tomorrow Legion's goals for now, and his long-term goals involve pushing his Mind Melter abilities to their utmost limit.
Meeting with his new team for the first time, after sizing each one up, he says "Hmph. Name's Burgurk. Let's try not to get killed, ok?"
Carl Lucian
Settling into the meeting area, A grizzled human man in worn but well-cared-for body armor takes a seat. He has a JA-11 Rifle slung over his back, and a Triax Pump Pistol on his hip. He does not have a pack or any extended gear other than his weapons.
"I'm Carl. Nice to meet you."
Jack Saeder
Due to the Dragon Juicer conversion, Jack requires very expensive and rare alchemically treated dragon blood to live. Having abandoned the Federation and with Tolkeen destroyed, the only place that has the facilities and access is Castle Refuge
Jack has no love lost for the Coalition after the Siege. He thinks they'll get what's coming to them - and soon
Jack needs Dragons Blood to survive, and whatever it takes to get that is his goal.
Juicer's don't have long term goals.
"Can't say I'm terrible good at dying, Burgurk." says Jack. He extends his hand for a shake "Name's Jack"

You see at the distance the islands on which the city of Granite is build on. A couple ley lines run near the place, used to provide power for the city.
Some images of the Beaver Islands. The City is build on the islands.

The place looks peaceful, with people working and moving around.
Gavryn Wyat
" Looks surprisingly peaceful... lets head in and check it out. "
Gavryn abandoned his Squireship to Sir Drystan and travelled to Castle Refuge after the fall of Tolkien, hoping to find news of his mother and brother there. He decided to stay and help out to take missions exactly like this in the hope that perhaps he'll find his family members among the refugees. He has now been fully Knighted.
Gavryn sees the coalition as an enemy that must be fought to protect those Dbees and magic users who are innocent.
His short term goals are to find (or find news of) his mother and brother and Helping to strengthen Castle Refuge.
His long term goal is to help build a world where all beings can feel welcome and safe.
Glitterboy Pilot Solaire
Knight Solaire will have met everyone first in person, outside of his glitterboy armor. "Looks like we have a good group here. I hope we can cooperate and maybe even get to enjoy each other's company in the future. Now let's get out there and do some good."
It doesn't take long to find his power armor, a beautifully kept and polished glitterboy armor. The chest plate has an (obviously chromed) emblem of a sun on it.
Solaire has joined the Tomorrow Legion because in his eyes it was the right thing to do. The Tomorrow Legion stands to help people in need and in Solaire's mind that's what he was destined to do.
He sees the Coalition as adequate for the basics of survival, but the time for them has long since passed and they should have changed gears from just the survival of man to improving life by now. He has never had a problem with D-Bees or men of magic, though he doesn't understand them either.
His short term goals are to do good for the innocents and helpless in the world. (seriously, it's kinda broad but its what he really wants to do).
His long term goals are to form the foundation of an organized network across the continent that can exchange information and rapidly deploy to different regions in need. A network of jolly cooperation, if you will.
Gavryn Wyat
" Sounds good, I'm looking forward to working with you. " Gavryn says shaking Solaire's hand.
Gavryn wears a modern style armour made of composite bands and plates with a metal mesh underlay. The pauldrons and helmet however have a medieval style, painted blue and white with a black lion motif. The helmet has a visor that unseals and flips up.
A NG-L5 laser rifle is slung over his shoulder and a wilks pistol sits in a holster strapped to his right thigh.
" Yeah, let's get down there. " he says, hoping into one of the rear seats of the Big Boss, his rifle sitting across his lap.
Carl Lucian
As the rest of the group approached his Big Boss, Carl said "Hang on a moment, let me move some stuff" and then proceeded to clear some survival equipment out of the spare seats. After a few minutes of reassembling what was clearly a NG-S2 survival kit, he then spent several minutes securing it to the outside of the vehicle before saying "Okay, hop in."

You move for a couple minutes before Solaire detects a ping in his radar. A couple seconds, another..
They move fast, airborne, some 50 miles away, moving towards Granite town, over the river.
For the size you guess they are hoverbikes or SAMAS troops.
Glitterboy Pilot Solaire
The coms crackle. "Hold on. Something's coming. Maybe SAMAS." Solaire's voice accompanies his power armor slowing to a stop.
If I use my boomgun's targeting, can I get a good look at what's incoming?

The horizon, on the Glitter Boy, is some 5 miles away, so you shouldn't be able to get a visual yet (In fact, I am doubting you should get the radar signal :S.
But ok, you move onwards, they move onwards, and you get a fuller picture.
Over the river, 4 PA-06A Coalition SAMAS and 4 AFC-023 Coalition Sky Cycles are approaching Granite City. In the moment you see them, half of them veer out towards you all.

"Yes boys, it's Coalition." Solaire reports as the two groups converge. "Looks like 2 SAMAS and 2 Airbikes incoming, and the same amount heading for town... Shit, they've got boats too."
There's the unmistakable sound of the Glitterboy's drill pylons engaging. The comm crackles one last time. "Get clear of me." the pilot advises.
Readying to fire upon the further back of the two SAMAS once they get within range 1000, unless someone has a better idea.

Gavryn Wyat
" Coalition. " Gavryn growls, " Yeah, step on it Carl! "
So my rifle has a range of 100 yards... it might be a while before we can engage. (And even then it seems it doesn't do mega damage, so it probably couldn't harm these guys.)
Glitterboy Pilot Solaire
mega damage isnt the same as in original rifts. But yeah, you will do significantly less.

Burgurk
My understanding of SW is that non-Heavy weapons do *no* damage to Heavy armor, and in SW Rifts "mega" is the same as "Heavy"...
"Can you get us as close to the boats as possible?" Burgurk growls, in anticipation of the fight.
Burgurk
From a SW system developer : "So if not a Heavy Weapon, it does no damage [against Heavy Armor] and no damage means no effect whatsoever, no wounds, no Shaken, nothing." But you're right that Heavy Weapons against regular Armor just does the Heavy Weapon's normal damage, nothing extra (altho the Heavy Weapon's AP may *negate* the regular Armor...)

The combat ensues... sorry for the delay, I am trying to get my head around the combat rules... And a lot of work doesn't help.
We continue shortly.
