Corsairs of Varisia

Game Master dain120475

“Corsairs of Varisia” is a homebrew campaign which has low magic; emerging technology in the form of firearms; reavers, swashbucklers, buccaneers, and pirates.

“Corsairs of Varisia” campaign pits the starting party in a emerging town situated between Riddleport and Magnimar.

The town, formerly Roderic’s Cove, had been conquered by pirates from Riddleport, but has been recently liberated from support from the south to stop the advance of Riddleport into their waters.

The town was renamed “Beacon” and the lord of the town is calling on any who wish to make their fortune and become something great; with little to aid them but their wits and steel.

I did ask Hack to search one body and Melthune to search the other. There are only two dead. So Melthune can take the one that hasn't been searched, if she so chooses to.

If these rounds go simultaneously, Taissa takes two rounds, Hack takes three rounds and if Melthune takes 3 rounds to search and take from the other body, we can all get out of there on round 4. If we're seen lingering and robbing the bodies, it will look suspicious to the law keepers. So, search, take quickly and vamanos.

Melthune, that body IS the southerner -- Rahadoumi leader -- the other three were Northmen. So you get your wish.

Melthune, please toss up a perception check for searching the body of the southern leader guy, otherwise GM can't tell you what you find/discover.

Melthune simply kneels and begins to carefully work through the dusk-skinned man's robes and pockets,

Perception:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Before casting a casual eye over his armor and the value of his clothes and boots.

"So.... who do people think these folk were? Slavers?" She asks nonchalantly.

"I'm not going anywhere, yet. Like Melthune said, we did nothing wrong. There must have been dozens of witnesses to them walking up and attacking us unprovoked on the street. Running will only make us look guilty of something," Zayna says, siding with Molthune.

Take 10 on Knowledge (Local) for a 15. Unless Korvosa is known for having corrupt evil guards or something like that, I'm staying.

Response via Search:

You are free to take one of these each round. It takes you a round to notice all of these things.

1. On the left arm there is a golden armband.

2. There is a small pouch with some coins in it – (not sure how many – no time to count).

3. There is an ivory belt-buckle (value unknown).

4. There is a masterwork scimitar.

5. There is a masterwork small shield.

6. He is not wearing armor, or Cold Weather clothes – just regular wool robes.

7. He has a chain around his neck – on the chain is a key.

8. He has a medium pouch on him – inside is some foodstuffs (dried meats and some bread and dried fruits).

9. He has a gold ring on his finger with a ruby in it – (value unknown).

Zayna – the Town Watch is considered Lawful Neutral. It's probable that they'll likely come to the crime scene and observe that there are dead bodies. It's also probable that the acting gendarmeries will see that there are several of you covered in blood at the crime scene and likely take you down to their superior for questioning.

Again, this is by no means an evil organization – in fact, the ruling lord of the State believes that he can only maintain power if works with the people, rather than try to crush them under his heel. As such, he makes sure to keep the peace and makes sure that his troops are very fair with the citizens.

However, it is a legal organization. So the chief complication here is that (probably, though not 100% for sure; other things may end up happening instead) you’ll have to be taken to a superior and sit around for questioning. This will take time – and you’re not sure how long – and Polux is waiting for your return. So mainly it’s a delay when you’re trying to get many things done quickly.

FYI – Taking a 10 on your knowledge check takes you at least a full round.

White Fang watches the search with a somewhat bored look.

It’s clear to him that – as you’ve won –unless there is food on the body that lingering around is hardly worth it. But he hears the big girl say she wants to stay and the nice girl say she will wait with big girl.

He looks at Taissa as she gathers things quickly.

In Warg:

”Alpha – if they want to talk to the leader of this “Town” pack – why not let them stay? Our pack can go get supplies and these new-comers can stay here and explain all they want.”

He looks critically at these “city-folk” type and turns back to look at Taissa and Hack as they gather the gear.

”We are good fighters – they are good talkers. We are the Red Pack – we run in the wild,” he adds glancing at you and Hack ”but they like to talk in these stone dens that they call “Town”,” his eyes flicking to the armored knight and the tattooed scholar.

”Well, if they want to wait and talk – we can just go now and do what we must while they can wait here and talk and then find us later, if they want. Just tell them our ship name, and then we don’t have to wait; they can catch up,” he says, his tail wagging wisely at the statement.

Taissa – it seems White Fang thinks that leaving any complex Diplomacy rolls and debates about legal matters to the city knight and the priestess with experience in knowledge might be more successful if the barbarian and the wild half-elf carrying a warg pup and a young roc were not there to ruin the chances of diplomacy.

Then he waits for Taissa’s decision.

"Not slavers. The Northmen acted like bounty hunters."

Having listened to Melthune and Zayna say they wished to stay and wait for the town authorities, Taissa nodded once and responded steadily, "Your will is your own. You may explain to the law keepers, if that is your desire. I have duties to complete and I am leaving. If you still wish to see the ship, go to the docks when you are done. It's The Scorpion."

Settling her eyes on Hack, she says in lowered voice, "I am headed to the markets for the necessary supplies. If you wish to come, then we leave now." Hack, perhaps pick up that pouch of coins you found on the Northman's body -- could be useful in the market. ;)

She gathers White Fang and places him safely inside the scarf pouch around her neck (with his head poking out so he can see) and she calls to Daya to leave. If the others were not concerned about their serious wounds, then so be it. Her animals required a healer's attention.

Taissa and her animals head down the street (remembering the directions Melthune had been giving before they were waylaid), hoping to bypass the town's impending law keepers, keeping their eyes focused, hoping to spy the markets and keep out of direct notice of the law keepers and would-be threats.

To her animal companions, she adds, "Keep quiet. We must be away with little attention. White Fang, especially you. This town is not for us."

Taissa's Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Daya's Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
White Fang's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Well, we can presumably handwave the questioning and have it happen off screen, unless the plot involves us somehow getting framed for attacking ourselves. Taking 10 does not take a full round, it takes the same amount of time as the normal skill. Knowledge checks are a free action, so taking 10 on them is also a free action. You just can't take ten while distracted or in combat, and on certain skills. On my phone but I can show you rules references later if you want.

"I have some healing salves. It is quite potent, but has a..kick." She offers/warn the gun-slinger.

So, up to you. Want a vial of 'Troll Styptic'?

Melthune's Fort Save:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18.

RE:Taking 10 rules:

Taking 10 wrote:
When a character or creature is not in immediate danger or distracted, it may choose to take 10 on some rolls (specifically, skill checks). Instead of rolling 1d20 for the check, calculate the result as if the die had rolled a 10. For many routine tasks, taking 10 makes them automatically successful. Distractions or threats (such as combat) make it impossible to take 10. In most cases, taking 10 is purely a safety measure—you know (or expect) that an average roll will succeed but fear that a poor roll might fail, so you elect to settle for the average roll (a 10). Taking 10 is especially useful in situations where a particularly high roll wouldn't help.

Melthune indicates the now reduced wound scare she carries from the battle in response to Zanya's question.

"I wonder what the wild girl meant when she said 'Bounty hunters'." Is Melthune's question back to Zayna. "Perhaps this boat is more than they are letting on?" She adds quietly, still stripping/looting the pair of bodies.

"Keep an eye out for distinguishing tattoos...clan items, that sort of thing. That way we'll be better prepared should family come looking for recompense, blood money." Melthune says matter-of-factually.

I did offer the healing tonic Zanya. You don't have to stand there leaking all over the place. (^_~)

Also, keeping an eye out for scamps etc to go take a message to the local Clerics.

I know you did, but she doesn't want you to waste it when she can just cast a spell for free. So she ignored that :P She's being nice, but in a stupid, stubborn, painful to herself kind of way.

Zayna keeps an eye on their surroundings as Melthune loots the bodies. "I don't know about any bounty hunters, unfortunately. Is it legal to loot them in this city? I'm not really comfortable doing that until the guard says it's okay. It makes us look like we killed them to rob them."

Taking 10 on perception for a 20 to keep an eye out for urchins, guards, or potentially threats.

Melthune tucks her unaccepted vial away for later, even as she sets about relieving the second body of its items.

"We're not 'Looting'." Melthune replies emphatically.

"To the victor goes the spoils. They started the fight, we finished it." She glances in the direction the last pair of assailants fled. She glances at Zanya,

"You'll note that I took them on with just my bare hands," She ignores the fact that there are lethal plates of metal and leather strapped about her fists in the comment,

"While we can honestly point out the weapons, clothing, armor and other foreign..." Melthune colours slightly wen she realizes that Zanya is also not a local, ...um...effects of this lot." She finishes bluntly.

"You are quite strong, Melthune. Hopefully these men are known criminals and the guards accept our story quickly," Zayna says, motioning to the dead men. "I do not wish to delay the Scorpion over long. What if they should be attacked again while we are here or in the guard station? I mean, they could clearly take care of themselves, but I don't want my tickets out of this city to die on me." Zayna shuffles around, keeping an eye on all angles, with her musket resting easily in hand, pointed down towards the street.

Melthune shrugs, "The woman, Taissa, if she does have a group of thugs after her or the rest of the crew. Do you really want to get mixed up in something like that so quickly?" She continues to retrieve what ever is salvageable.

"We haven't set foot upon the deck of this 'Scorpion' yet...Sounds like a siege engine" She mutters to herself tugging at something. "And here we are getting accosted in the street. That's why I initially thought they were maybe foreign slavers looking to get something exotic. For Taissa to hint that they are bounty hunters..."

"I'll fight, no worries there. But I'd rather walk into a battle knowing a bit more about all sides..." She glances to Zanya,

"Why wouldn't the guards accept that they accosted us? Plenty of people saw it." Melthune glances around to see how many are creeping back. "Walking down the street with your sword flashing about was bloody obvious, hence why people ran."

"Indeed."

The Authorities –

As Melthune and Zayna wait they observe Taissa and Hack charge off some back alleys and disappear into the city in a matter of moments.

Rounds before the Authorities arrived since the first gun shot –
1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

EDIT: So it took you about 9 rounds since the first gunshot. That was round 1, a second shot was fired during the next round. Then it took you 2 rounds to get to the bodies and 1 round to search them. That’s a total of 5 rounds. You have 4 rounds to take what you want from a dead body – it’s one item per round for each of you.

Even as Zayna and Melthune continue to search the bodies for incidentals they look up to see charging around the corner four musketeers and a young corporal with them.

You are likely aware of the Musketeer stats by now – an officer has the same stats plus at least a level per “Rank” in Knight.

The first gunshot alerted them; the second gunshot indicated where you were coupled with the screams of running people. They ran down the streets at a full run at the second round for roughly 150 feet a round and in 6 rounds they traveled roughly 900 feet from the position that they started at.

Whatever gear you have taken you can stow on your person, but when the officer gets there he won’t let you take any more stuff from the bodies until he knows what happened specifically – after all, you may be thieves. So you have time to take a few things to hide on your person – in this case you can each take 4 Items from the list on either body each (the armor on the northerner can’t be taken so quickly, however, as removing armor takes much longer than a few rounds).

They guards lower their weapons on you. As you hastily attempt to explain what happens you notice that none of the witnesses want to get involved in the situation at this time; preferring not to interfere unless necessary.

The corporal leaves two of his men with the corpses and takes you both into custody back to his superior at a guard post about several blocks from the situation. You can see there is a small watch tower roughly three stories tall and there is a small area on the ground that houses four horses, a series of small cells and small offices on the first level and the second floor of the tower is where the weapons are stored and the third floor houses a small area for the few guards there to sleep. The post holds roughly twenty men, but only four men are there, plus their officer a middle-aged lieutenant. In addition you see a second corporal as well as the three men who came back with you.

You are introduced to their officer.

”I am lieutenant Rinaldo Glabius,” the chief officer says with a glance at you when you are brought before him.

The lieutenant hears your tale patiently – specifically about your details about the attack. He considers the suggestion that they were bounty hunters and his eyes widen.

”Bounty hunters? We don’t need their scum,” he says with a frown.

He orders you both into a cell for a while until he can get the full details after you have surrendered your arms. During this process he notes your manners and actions.

His men examine the crime scene, conduct formal interviews and study the bodies. This takes some time, but after roughly two hours he invites you into his chambers and considers you both.

”My men had interviewed some of the citizens that they found there and it seems that your story is indeed accurate. The witnesses agree that these men had attacked you first and you merely defended yourselves.”

"As you are indeed innocent, I apologize for the long delay. However, I wished to confirm more details on who had died and where these survivors might have fled to before I formally released you."

He leans back in his chair and regards you.

"As of now those survivors have not been apprehended yet, but we are still searching for them."

”Meanwhile, we believe that the leader of that group which you killed was in the employ of a business organization called The Bloody Sword. This organization operates mainly out of Rahadoum and they offer "protection" services to various sailors and merchants from the threat of pirates between here and eastern Cheliax; their chief enforcers have been trained in the bloodsports of the arena.”

He considers things for a moment, including the evidence that his men have brought back.

”It sounds like their chief man had hired some locals for contract work to catch beasts for some reason. Those men may have been paid a bounty on taking certain animals for their arenas to the south. If I had to gamble I would think that they were trying to take prizes to their arena – exotic animals used in blood sport might draw a large crowd,” he says thoughtfully.

He watches you for a moment and decides to bring the meeting to a close.

”Return their arms to them,” he says to one of his men, then glances at you all thoughtfully.

”I am sorry that you endured such filth in our city,” he says to you with a polite tone.

”It is clear that you were the victims of criminal elements. I regret none of them were taken alive only because it may have helped us take formal action against this - organization,” he says thoughtfully ”but – clearly – you were not at fault but defending yourselves,” he adds.

”Thank you for your assistance. As I said my men are still out trying to track down the others involved in this assault. I would very much like to take a more direct action against this "Bloody Sword" group."

"If we captured these men alive their information could help us take formal action against this organization."

"If we find these survivors having someone identify them formally would help us greatly. Will you be able to do so should we require it? If so, where can we find you?” he asks you both.

You are then released without issue. The entire incident took you roughly 3 hours of time; for the time to and fro, for the interview, and to wait at the cell for the investigation. At this time you are free to go and answer the officer as you please.

Specifically – let me know what you do (if anything) about Glabius’s request to contact you later to identify the others (if they are caught).

The Others

Hack and Taissa move quickly through the streets until they are sure that they are not being tracked. In time they are somewhat farther away from the combat and are relatively sure they’re not being followed.

Hack pauses to look into the pouch of the man he found to count the coins as Taissa slings White Fang snugly in a pouch around her shoulder to keep him safe.

Hack – you find in the pouch the following coins
Gold coins = 5d20 + 20 ⇒ (11, 10, 6, 5, 6) + 20 = 58
Silver coins = 3d20 + 10 ⇒ (20, 2, 15) + 10 = 47
Copper Coins = 2d20 + 5 ⇒ (4, 4) + 5 = 13

The two of them still plan on heading to this “bazaar” for the purpose of purchasing strange or unusual goods.

In time they arrive and are met with a large crowd of hawkers and vendors with their wares. As they search for goods and gear they suddenly notice a tall man exit a shop and glance in their direction.

”Stefan,” Taissa calls to him, and he grins and waves at them, moving toward them.

You are able to buy gear and share news with Stefan at this time if you’d like, and he may share news with you as well.

You have no idea where your comrades are at this time, or if they will return to you later. How do you plan on finding out where they are, or what will happen next?

White Fang scooches out of the pouch hanging around Taissa’s torso and peeks out at her.

In Warg:

”Ooh! Alpha – maybe Daya could find out where the others went, or even tell the one on the ship what happened, too, and what we are all doing so he can make us snacks when we come back?” he says peeking out from the pouch.

Then he wiggles his little butt against your belly and suddenly his eyes go wide, then he gives you a little grin.

”I made a smelly – heh-heh-heh-heh,” the little pup says giggling in his little warg voice as he suddenly hides back in the pouch.

Note to all –

The incident happened with the thugs at roughly 11:00 AM after the time at the inn and later on the way to the bazaar. Taissa and Hack arrive at the bazaar and meet with Stefan at roughly noon. Zayna and Melthune are released from custody at 2:00 PM. Sundown is roughly 4:49 PM at this time of year. Though that seems early, you are free to confirm that here if you’d like to confirm it. It is indeed the 11th. What do you want to do for the rest of the day until sundown with each other?

You can RP it out, or you can sum it up as you like; just let me know your plans and what – if anything – you’d like to do before sundown.

Regarding Melthune and Zayna, Taissa plans on doing nothing presently. She told them, if they still desire to, to come by the docks after their "conversation" with the authorities. She will mention the meeting with the women (and attack) to Stefan and Polux when she sees them. But if Melthune and Zayna don't show up, Taissa will either think they have been detained/arrested or changed their mind about joining them. Then it's Polux's call as Captain as to whether he wants them searched out. Taissa paid the dock master three days worth of docking fees/protection. So, we have that time.

We were accompanied by two females at the time - possible new recruits -- although I am unsure if they will come by the docks later and join us. I seek your polite manner to bargain for items which we require for the ship. If there is anything you need, then speak. Do you have time to join us before we return to The Scorpion? I've yet to report all this to Polux."

Taissa had ignored the pup's flatulence. She had thought after sending Daya back to the ship and Polux, but she was unsure if it would be safe, especially with her Roc's injuries.

She turned her gaze to Daya and gave her a soft smile and began instructing her using Roc speak lest they were overheard by other threats.

to Daya:
"Daya, if you are up to it, fly back to the ship and inform Polux that you require healing and what has transpired with the bounty hunters. Let him know we are in the bazaar, if he would come and meet us here. Be cautious and swift. Thank you, beloved."

In my earlier postings of days ago, I attempted to sell the poison to Capt John as none in the group said they wanted to keep them. I presumed we sold them to Capt John. Can you confirm or deny this, please?

You did indeed sell that poison and should have the loot converted to gold. However, the poison you picked up from the dead northman - that's a new poison and you have taken the the vial with it, so I thought you'd either keep that for your own weapons or sell it.

Finally - if you know someone who is a Gunslinger they may be able to craft you ammo for your musket with some ease. They just need to buy Crafting Supplies for it :)

Just a suggestion, but if you're really sending Daya to go give Polux news, you may want to let him know in case he misses the post.

Taissa will keep the poison she discovered on the dead Northman -- would come in useful for her own arrows...

And okay, crafting supplies for ammunition - check. And will pm Polux shortly.

Daya bowed her head and gave a low screech in reply.

She lifted to the air and began flying toward the dock and the ship. In the air, she attempted to be on the lookout, noting anything of interest, while flying in a quiet and discreet manner so as to not draw the attention of those below, especially the remaining hunters.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 (Yep, she notes a lot. ;))
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

When she comes upon The Scorpion, she flies down and lands on the deck. She stretches out her wing and favours the side hit by the poisoned arrow. Screeching, she searches out and in short time locates Polux. She begins to relay as much information as she can in her simple Common.

to Polux:
"T'ssa send. Hunters' attack. Daya need heal now. T'ssa at market. Bids Pol'x come."

Daya presses her beak gently against her bleeding wound to show Polux where she is hurt.

When Melthune and Zayna are finally released by the guards she tries hard not to smile. I can finally heal myself! That went about as I expected though.

She turns to Melthune saying, "If you'll excuse me for a moment, I've got to let water and it can't wait." Zayna then finds an alley or somewhere else hidden and casts a spell of healing on herself.

Taking 10 on stealth to hide somewhere for a 21 stealth.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

After casting the spell she returns to Melthune. "Much better now. Let's head to the docks and find the Scorpion?"

Just a point, but Melthune would be asking about gear from the defeated from the constabulary.

At Zayna's return,

Perception:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

Melthune does little more than raise an eyebrow at Zayna, though she smiles and agrees, (Assuming there is no more forthcoming by way of gear from the vanquished) heading off and pointing out local places, fares, wares, people and customs as they travel towards the docks.

"So....it seems every one was right. They were both Bounty Hunters and Slavers. Men seeking to take exotic creatures back to their home land for nefarious purposes..." Melthune opines about the men they'd scuffled with before. She glances sidelong towards Zayna,

"I must admit, your features are exotic compared to most of the locals..."

Off to a Night shift. Will be able to keep looking in and adding small posts through out the night. Much cheers to all.

Slight ret-con regarding the gear of the vanquished -

This Lieutenant Glabius seems to look at Melthune was an expression of distaste on his aristocratic features.

"I do not understand - you wish to loot the fallen?" he says with a confused look on his face.

"How crass..." he murmurs, his estimation of you dropping somewhat for some reason.

Shaking his head, he looks at you both.

"The bodies have been taken to be disposed of nearly an hour ago - the priests and the apothecary will examine the corpses and see if there is anything that can be used from them and then dispose of the bodies after saying some last words."

"I suppose that if you wanted to take the items from the corpses you may be able to find the remains at the temple district..." he says looking at each of you.

Yes - you can go to the temple district and try to find the corpses to search, if you want. But whether or not you will find much on them depends largely on chance at this point.

To Zayna and Melthune -

Right, so I spent about an hour or so doing the posts for you guys via the bodies and what was on them. You know; the gear, the values of each relative item - that sort of thing. Then I spent more time cross-referencing the information based on how long it would take you to take what you wanted from the bodies based on the rounds of the guards coming and so on.

Then I asked you both specifically what you would take - given that you each had 4 rounds - which would allow you take 1 item per round for a total of 4 things each before the authorities came.

I was pretty specific about that and asked what you guys wanted to take. After I asked neither of you guys took anything.

So at this point neither of you guys have anything from the bodies at all, because you didn't take anything. That surprised me when I read your posts, but that's up to you.

At this point you have the chance to try to ret-con your decision to go to the temple district first and see what happened to the bodies and the remains. It is possible that there will be remains on them, but it's possible that those remains may have been taken and disposed of by some temple novice or some guard moving the bodies to the temple and deciding to help himself to what they find on them during the transport.

That will depend largely on luck, however, if you decide to go that route.

Melthune simply places her hands upon her armored hips.

"You've already noted that they attacked us. Inflicting injury and harm, unwarranted, upon ourselves. That they've forfeited their lives and the possessions upon such would seem normal." She declares, though she makes no more of an issues of it.

Upon walking away and to 'The Scorpion', while Melthune is giving Zayna a tour-guide of the city through which they walk, she comments.

"I would hazard a guess that said possessions did not necessarily make their way to the Clerics who's duty it is to inter the dead." She shrugs philosophically, "Ah well...Indeed to the victor go the spoils..." She also procures the services of a 'Runner', giving them coin so that they may bring all of her traveling wares to said ship.

Happy to head to the boat.

I had an in character reason not to take anything. I'm LN and I didn't want to rob the bodies, and I don't know the laws on looting the dead here. I also didn't want to gain the disdain of the guards.

Melthune was "looting the bodies", so I think it's pretty unfair to not let Melthune take 4 small things. Especially since you hid the loot in a spoiler called "Response via search" which I totally missed the first couple times I read through those posts. She probably didn't see it at all. When you're reading on a phone or scanning for loot, a spoiler called "response via search" would be very easy to overlook.

"Do we not look forward to a life of adventure and treasure? I wouldn't worry too much about the belongings of a few thugs, Melthune," Zayna comments on their way to the Scorpion

I'm ready to meet back up at the ship.

Melthune luaghs in agreement with Zayna's assessment.

I appreciate your concern for Melthune's search.

However, I'd like to take a moment and address your comment about the "Unfair" thing, though.

First, Melthune has been playing with us since the beginning of this game under another alias and recently switched to a new character. That said, I'm confident that he's very aware of how I typically run things. By that I mean - he knows that I often write direct questions and that the answers the players give directly impact the game and that if people don't give answers to the questions, it complicates things.

For example - when I ask for a Perception Check - I need the check, as it effects what he found and how much he found when he is searching quickly.

Also, when I tell people that I'm doing a round-by-round count for them to search the bodies and take items until the guards get there; it seems more than reasonable that a person would tell me what it is that they took. The other players did that in their posts, Melthune did not.

Finally, under that post I did for you both about the search and investigation, I made a pretty large notation at the very top under the word "Edit" that indicated that you both had the chance to take 4 items. He had time to read the boards and post a response, but despite my request that he tells me what he took, he didn't write that he took any items nor did he even ask for a list of the items in case he wanted to take them. At this point I don't even know if he missed it as you suggest, or if he chose not to tell me what he took for a reason. I mean, if he had at least given me a post that had said "I'm sorry, I missed your question earlier, is there any way I can ret-con that decision?" that would have made a bit more sense, but it didn't happen.

As for the items themselves - I had written the value of the bracelet, the ring, notes on them if they were found and Knowledge: Nobility was used on either - I had notes on the gear in general, including the items in the chest that the key hanging around the dead leader's neck would open - even the food in the pouch had further notes, because that's generally how I make things in my games.

In other words; I do a lot of work for this game. I think it's more than reasonable when the GM asks a player a specific question on the boards that they take the time to answer the question - or, if they choose not to answer the question, they accept the fact that their choices will have consequences in game.

I don't think that's unfair of me to make that assumption. However, if you still believe it is unfair, please let me know and I'll do what I can to address it. I'm perfectly willing to admit I've made a mistake, but given the circumstances, it seemed like a reasonable conclusion on my part.

While I'm at it, if anyone thinks my decision was unfair or unreasonable, please let me know. I'm trying my best to run a good game, and that takes feedback from the players. If other players also think that I was not being reasonable and should let him take at least the four things he could have taken before, that's fine, I can adjust things.

However, if people feel that if I ask a player a question and they post but don't answer the question, that I should just move forward, let me know that, too.

The short answer is that I'm trying to run a good game. If players feel that a decision is unfair, let me know and I'll consider it. In this case I thought what I did was fair, and I did what I could to explain my motivations. But like I said - if there are any issues or thoughts from anyone, please let me know.

Sum-up:

Taissa and Hack are shopping. Stefan is with them. This process started formally at 12:00 Noon.

Taissa sent Daya back to the ship to speak to Polux and let him know what’s up. Daya would have been able to reach Polux by roughly 12:30.

Melthune and Zayna were released from custody at roughly 2:00 PM. They would have reached the ship by roughly 2:30 PM.

Now that everyone knows where they are and what time it is, just let me know your plans so that we can get things done and get the party back together.

Thank you.

If Melthune's fine with it I am. Not trying to start uneccesary trouble. As a DM of five PBP games right now, I understand and appreciate the amount of work that goes into them. Especially the homebrew ones like this.

Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it.

If you have any other issues, just let me know and I'll do what I can to address them :)

That said - what does everyone else think? In other words; if I ask a player a question and they make posts and don't answer the question, is it reasonable that I just move the game forward with consequences to their lack of an answer, or is that too harsh?

Am all good with things. Melthune has about 80 Gp to help with provisions and stores. Like Sunny suggested, maybe tweaking the sails is a bettrr piority? As opposed to twerking the sails...... 'Cause that stuff jus' in't right. (>_>)

"Ah, well met Taissa, how fortunate as I was just on my way to find you."

"Bounty hunters you say? Interesting, are you sure they were just a chance encounter and not something related to our other quest? I have some information regarding that as it happens.
I will fill you in as we shop and I will gladly help with that."

Stefan tells Taissa some of the basic information, but will wait for all of us to gather before going into detail.

** spoiler omitted **

Daya presses her beak gently against her bleeding wound to show Polux where she is hurt.

Apologies for the absent posting - yesterday I was completely worn out and simply crashed when I got home.

Polux opens a grin when he notices Daya arriving on board of The Scorpion, but it quickly dies away when he realizes the roc is wounded, and bleeding.

Even though he is already aware that Daya can actually speak, the man still hesitates momentarily when hearing her words - "Daya, are the others wounded?" - he asks promptly, approaching the magnificent animal without touching her, to observe the wound closer.

"Let's get you fixed. Wait here - I will quickly take care of another issue first" - he adds, moving to the goblin - "This is your chance to prove you wish a chance to join us - make the best of it" - he comments, taking the goblin down below, tying him yet with another rope, and gagging his mouth - bringing the grand total of bindings to a pair of manacles and two ropes - "Stay put and silent, and I will seriously consider your application" - he offers with a stare.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Returning uptop, Polux goes to his pack, retrieving one of the healing scrolls - Ok Polux, lets do this - he ponders to himself as he approaches Daya.

Taking a CMW scroll - Polux was holding onto the 4xCLW + 4xCMW as party loot.

"May I touch you?" - he asks the roc - "I should be able to heal your wounds"

IF Daya acquiesces:

Scroll CMW - UMD DC22: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

Unable to activate the healing magic contained in the scroll, Polux curses, then looks back at Daya with a wink - "I can do this"

Scroll CMW - UMD DC22: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Scroll CMW - UMD DC22: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

With a smile, he can feel the warmth pouring from the scroll, through his body, arm and then hand, healing some of Daya's wounds - "There, that should get you on the mend"

CMW: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11HPs healed on Daya

Picking up his bag, he moves to leave but stops short - "Daya, I know you don't take orders from me, but I need you to stand guard - if the goblin down there does a lot of noise, or tries to escape, do not let him!" - he adds, not sure but believing the intelligent creature will understand him - "Do not risk your life for any reason - flee if you have to" - he finishes, jumping out from The Scorpion, already in a dash.

Handle Animal if needed: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

As he jogs out of the vessel, his mind races through what he knows about Korvosa - Bazaar, bazaar....

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

I remember! This way! - he realizes, picking up the pace, and jogging towards the bazaar.

Took some liberty there with my roll, if Polux does not know where it is, he will ask around.

If and when he reaches the bazaar, he looks for his companions.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Dang! I'm on a roll - hope I won't miss those dice results later on...
