Folks I'm going on my semi-annual transatlantic business trip and will be traveling this weekend and next. I expect to have internet access at the hotel so I should be able to post, but I may be slower at responding than usual. Please bot if needed.

I didn't mean that comment in gameplay as chastisement- just wanted to make sure you weren't all waiting on me!
Two things I should have mentioned earlier but forgot about:
- languages: I'm a big fan of using google translate and spoilers to add a certain verisimilitude to the use of different languages. This post and several of the dozen or so that follow it will give you a good idea what I mean. I think its a fairly common practice on the boards but I like to try to keep my languages consistent from game to game so I'm going to post a link in the campaign header to the conversion list I use. As much as you're able, I'd love for you guys to use it as well. (If you have any questions about this please feel free to ask).
- skills: this isn't a huge deal but if/when you have the chance I really like to have skills broken down (it makes it easier for you to track, and to handle when leveling, and it makes it way easier for me to check if something seems off). my preferred format is to have the skill with it's total bonus and then a parenthesis with the breakdown (like seen in this character's skills spoiler), but if you want to use some other method that's fine too.
Thanks. Also, I'm really enjoying this game so far- I hope you all are too!
Axel Hagerson
I use Hero Lab for all my characters (makes leveling up soooo much easier), I wouldn't be surprised if there was some way to make it spit out a breakdown like that. I'll have a look.
Edit: Oh wow apparently you can get it to do stuff like this: http://shadowd20.pbworks.com/f/Rune_Giant_Samurai(Sebacore).pdf
Kejak
Do you mean like this character's Skill Spoiler? :P
Also: I'm playing Kejak as if he doesn't suspect anything about Ellen's feelings. He's not the smartest guy in the block, and this could lead to funny misunderstandings or interesting tension. If you want me to go any other way, feel fry to tell me.

Sounds good to me re: skills and languages, DM! And I'm enjoying getting into the rhythm of the game; it sometimes takes me a bit to really nail down a character's 'voice' so bear with me if Josie and Inc fluctuate a bit in these early days.
I will say that the general idea is for Josie to be rather ridiculous about a lot of things and poor Inc plays the straight man (or eidolon, as the case may be). What's funny is that my other USummoner is basically the opposite setup: summoner is a bit of a grump and the eidolon is generally cheerful and willing to go along with the other PC's shenanigans most of the time :3

<importing discussion from gameplay>
So, Sandpoint is no stranger to armed caravan guards, intrepid explorers searching for Thassilonian ruins to pillage, and would-be adventurers collecting goblin bounties or hoping to slay the infamous Sandpoint Devil. It's really fairly common for these types to trudge around armed and armored while they're in town, and (as long as they behave) nobody seems to mind much. As most of you have some kind of aspirations towards adventuring it wouldn't be at all surprising for you to be so outfitted some times... I imagine Josie is probably fully equipped whenever she leaves the Cathedral; Kejak would certainly be armed and armored while he's on duty (and since he just got off an overnight and headed straight to the festival I'm assuming he's armed and armored still now).
Ellen doesn't even own armor so this is kind of a non-issue for her (and it wouldn't be at all uncommon for a young woman to carry a dagger just in case trouble arises). The issue is the most complicated for Axel... you started the day busking and haven't changed or re-outfitted since... what kind of personae do you perform with? If you're playing to your charm it seems unlikely you would have suited up in scalemail for that... but if play up the blonde hair and perform a lot of Northern tales/ballads then the armor could make sense as a prop... as for the bardiche- what would you have done with it during the performance? And when you left this morning would you have wanted to carry it through the crowds all day?
It up to each of you what you are or are not wearing/carrying, I just ask you to consider the answer from a RP perspective not a mechanical one. And, Axel, you have a bunch of gold left- if you want to have a dagger or shortsword or something that you've bought just to carry around town I have no objection to ret-conning that.
Before the goblins take their turns, everyone please post how their character is currently equipped. Thanks!
Kejak
Okay, so I guess I might wear my longbow (I would have taken it to the archery contest) and the knife. No greatsword or spiked gauntlet. Armor... I wouldn't normally wear armor, though it being a leather one... could be reasonable.
Axel Hagerson
Axel would have a dagger with him, but wouldn't normally clomp around in armor. He certainly wouldn't carry a polearm on a feast day without good reason.
Josie Fizzwicket
Josie would probably normally wear at least her leather armor and carry her dagger no matter what since those two items are relatively unobtrusive and Inc would have her riding saddle. They'd likely leave the rest of their gear at the cathedral unless planning to actually go somewhere or do something that required it. She might carry her longspear around on a normal day but she'd leave it on festival day due to the crowds.
DM Nate
@Kejak- It's pretty standard for watchmen to wear light armor while on patrol. Since you went straight to the festival from working overnight I think it would make the most sense for you to be armored.
Sorry for the delay. Now that we've cleared this up I'll get gameplay moving again today.
Kejak
Alright then. Assume my perception roll is to find anymore goblins and where are the guards.
Axel Hagerson
Meant to post last night but jet lag hit me hard. Anyway I've written a custom output for hero lab which Axel is using now which tries to spell things out more. Let me know if you like it.
For this combat he'll have left the scale mail at home and have AC 12 (gulp!)
Josie Fizzwicket
Hey guys, I'm going to be pulling 12s at work for the next three days so you may not see much in the way of posts from me during that time. I'll try to check in/keep up as much as I can but it may not be until Friday night or Saturday before I'll get caught up. As always, feel free to bot me for combat/skill checks as needed!
Josie Fizzwicket
Well, right now I'm mainly in an 'under the weather' state rather than the 'totally miserable' state that seems to be common with the flu. Not sure if it's just because it's in it's early stages or if my immune system is just that awesome. Either way, I'm going to take my meds and hope it doesn't get any worse!
Kejak
Sorry,m I totally forgot to count the number of arrows I wasted, lol. For now, let's say I used 10 (I think they're less than that, but just to make it a round number). I'll try to not forget from now on, sorry again.
Kejak
No problem, typing regularity is usually so... irregular :P It happens, we understand.
DM Nate
Thanks for understanding! I had to miss a couple days of work because my kids' school was canceled for the storm and I've been playing catch-up ever since. I think I should be back to regular posting tomorrow.
DM Nate
i added a link to a map of Sandpoint in my banner.
Just for your reference: the Vinder's home/store is 26; the Academy is 27; and, the Market Square (where you are currently) is 35.
This map should be pretty reliable but there will be little changes here and there. For example, I've changed the Academy a little bit (and shrunk/shifted a few surrounding building to expand it a little), and beefed up the southern entrance slightly (there wasn't really much of a gate to speak of on the map).
Axel Hagerson
@Nate this won't be an issue for a couple of levels, but would you mind coming up with a house ruling for for how Bardic Masterpieces interact with regular bard (well rage) song? I suspect you've seen the FAQ request. It seems there isn't a simple answer as far as the PDT are concerned or they'd have answered this one long ago.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
I hadn't really given it any thought- it honestly never occurred to me that you might want some of those (I remember being mostly unimpressed with them). I'll have to actually look at it and give it a little thought but my first thought is that we can probably figure out something if you want to use them, yeah. But you won't generally be able to stack them with regular performances.
Ellen Turan
There are a few that are extremely powerful (Pageant of the Peacock is pretty ridiculously strong) but they are mostly underwhelming. The fact that their DC's scale with class level makes the save-or-suck ones a bit better than actually spellcasting if you want to be a non-martial bard but having to stop inspiring is a hard pill to swallow.
Kejak
Lol, Nate, I was just going to ask you to link the map somewhere visible :P Stop reading my mind!
Axel Hagerson
Pagent of the peacock shouldn't exist IMO.
Some of the Masterpieces are interesting (Symphony of the Elysian Heart) even in the least generous interpretation.
Others are interesting if they are treated like spells and later using performance for something else doesn't cause them to end (which some people argue), e.g. Tales of Twisting Steel, Arrowsong's lament.
Depending on how status removal works out Axel might pick up Hymn of Restorative Harmonics.
DM Nate RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32
Ok, after reviewing the rules here's my clarification/ruling on masterpieces:
Masterpieces are a form of performance, so they're bound by the 'only one in effect at a time' rule. They are unusual performances (so I understand the point some people are trying to make) but they're still performances. The way their effects work (lasting beyond the end of the actual performance) is most similar to the way lingering performance works and they made a point in the feat to specify that the 'one effect' rule trumps the feat, so I have to rule that it also trumps the duration of masterpieces.
If there are any follow up questions please let me know.

Hey folks, I know this will seem a little sudden but I've made the decision to bow out of this game. My work schedule has been busier than usual lately and I don't look for it to change much for the foreseeable future. As a result I've made the decision to (again) cut down my number of games (which stinks because all the ones I have right now I *really* like) but this ended up being one of the ones I feel the most okay with letting go of; I just don't have the mental energy and in some cases the time to keep up with everything currently on my plate. Hopefully if things change relatively soon I'll be able to jump back in and rejoin you all but if not, it's been fun playing with everyone and I wish you all good luck on all your PbP adventures :)
DM Nate
Sorry to hear that Josie. I don't want to ask too much when you're struggling with time but if you could make one or two more posts to kind of organically write yourself out that would be super helpful...
@everyone else- I'm going to run us with 3 for a while and see how that goes... if Josie's schedule lightens up any time soon we'll go back up to 4, or if it becomes a problem being down 1 melee and 6:9 arcane caster we'll talk about recruiting someone else.
Axel Hagerson
Shame, interplay between Josie and Ellen could have been interesting!
Josie Fizzwicket
Thanks guys, maybe if my work schedule ever settles into something resembling consistent I'll be able to jump back in! DM, whenever you get a chance would you mind marking Josie and Inc as inactive? I'll still be able to find the campaign to check in from time to time but I'm a little OCD about keeping my Campaigns page organized :)
DM Nate
It looks like Kejak and Ellen are winding down their dinner... I don't want to hold up the game too much with Axel's date, but I don't want to cut it off either... Axel, is there a time tonight (or this weekend) that you know you're going to be on? Maybe I could try to be on too and we could hopefully get a few posts back and forth in quick succession? Or we could move the rest of the date to spoilers while the plot moves forward? Or, I could PM you a couple questions and then just right a bigger post summarizing the rest of the evening? Let me know your preference.
Kejak
Just FYI: In my country, someone who stays there when there are two people trying to date each other is called a 'candle holder' :P
