@Garduk - Wall shelves run the entire height of the wall, while the stacks of boxes and freestanding shelves are waist-high, requiring 2 squares of movement and a DC 5 Acrobatics check and providing cover as per the low obstacles rules.
The shopkeeper mutters Colored sand, yea, yeah, there's some right over there. He gestures and his hand tremors slightly as he does. As Stonegrin moves over the "customer" moves over and pretends to look at the shelves in front of him.
As Kulga makes her comment, all 3 of the "customers" give her a surprised look. On spurts We're customers too.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Garduk wanders casually up the aisle past Oret, making a show of checking out the shelves as he goes.
"Is that all you have in stock? You must have more somewhere. Do you have an assistant or anyone else in the back who might be able to look for more sand?" Garduk emphasizes his real question, hoping the alchemist will understand and find a way to convey whether there are any more of the thugs hiding in the back room.
Oret Terra |
"Was it closed then? I had not had that impression since the place was crowded." Oret speaks calmly, but keeps his hand close to his mace while loosely holding his shield. "As a knight of Adabar and occasional city guard, it'd be a shame not to uphold this man's operating hours, why don't we all leave and give this man some peace now." Oret turns and eyes the other folk in the room, insisting they leave, gripping his morningstar's handle, showing he means business.

Bokkah |
Bokkah is hopeful to see this situation defused. She backs up Oret. "Yes please leave this good man alone."
diplomacy AA: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17
Stonegrin Strongale |
Stonegrin doesn't like unnecesary talk... theses boys are obviously up to no good and the only thing that will stop them is a hard handed beating. For now he merely steps into the room inconspicuously as he gives the two thugs near the counter a cold hard stare.
Kamda Stoneheart |
Kamda follows the group in, but givesthe other "customers" a stone-hard look, and makes sure his holy symbol of Torag is easily visible.
Ach, ye got any spell components fer a dwarf? Like whiskey? I be needin' a good drink. Been a stressful day.
He makes sure he places himself in between the thugs and the Shopowner, and also makes sure his axe is ready for action.
Chaosorbit |
Oh yes, says the shop keeper. Well I have is out here, um, assistant, no, only my son who is ill. That is why I am closed.
Then the men blink wildly as you begin to move among them. When Oret makes his suggestion, they seem agreeable.
The customer nearest the shop keep looks at him, Yes, so sorry didn't realize you were closed sir. We'll come back later when you are open. He gives one of the others a shove and begins moving for the door. Staring you down as if to say your coming as well, right.
As he nears the doors, Come on everyone let's leave this man in peace and let him care for his ill son.
Chaosorbit |
Stonegrin won't get the chance to question/warn the alchemist, cause the other 'customers' make it clear they don't intent to walk out of the shop unless you all do as well.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Oh the hell with this.
Oh the hell with this. Get out now or we'll chop you in half you cowards!
Intimidate: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (5) - 3 = 2 Probably more mad than scared...
Kamda Stoneheart |
Kamda squarely plants himself in between Kulga and the thugs.
Kulga, ain't no need fer tha'. They can leave, an' we'll be right wit' em. Mr. Shopkeeper, if ye'd be so kind as ta meet us at tha inn we be stayin' at, we'd like ta talk ta ye about some business.
His eyes never leave the thugs, making eye contact with each one as he addresses the shopkeeper and Kulga. The paladin's body language suggests that if anyoke has a problem with his plan, they can take it up with his axe.
Oret Terra |
Oret leads the way out of the shop, attempting to keep the peace within the shop. He stands right next to the door waiting for everyone to leave, keeping his foot there just in case anyone tries any funny business with the door.
Sorry if the role-playing slows down the game! If it's a problem let me know.
Chaosorbit |
No, no by all means I love all the role-playing, that's what it's all about (at least for me). As long as you are all enjoying it I'm totally fine with it.
At Kulga's comments, one of the men begins to reach for his sap; and things looks as if they are about to boil over. When Kamda steps in and things calm back down at little bit. Everyone begins to head outside.
And where are you staying? A clearly nervous Senzer asks the group.
The thugs give you all plenty of threatening looks, but eventually, everyone is standing outside the shop. The Cleric of Adabar is last out closing the door behind him.
The men move a little way from the shop but don't go far, instead keeping an eye out that you don't head straight back inside.
Oret Terra |
As Oret shuts the door behind him, he closes his eyes for a brief moment and let's out a sigh of relief that no damage befall upon shop. Then he holds his shield high and draws his morningstar turning towards the ruffians. He speaks clearly without hostility but firmly.
"Now, I have it on good authority you men mean ill will to this fine establishment. I assure you, this establishment shall not be touched lest my friends and I stand here. You can leave the easy way, or the hard way. I'm a man of peace but shall resort to swift justice to the lawless. Now, state your intentions."
Garduk the Unteachable |
Garduk hangs back long enough to be one of the last out the door. As Oret shoos out the thugs, Garduk takes a few seconds to cast a minor spell. Under his breath, he whispers "The Wandering Way" softly enough that (he hopes) only the cleric of Abadar can hear him naturally.
Garduk's spell is Message, directed at the alchemist.
Stonegrin Strongale |
Stone grin nods at Oret's words and cracks his knuckles before Drawing his Sansetsukon.
Not sure if this is the kind of place to make claims about righteousness and the law on open streets...
The Dwarf thinks to himself.
All good Oret! As a priest of Adabar you better be aman of principle!
Chaosorbit |
When Oret draws his Morningstar and speaks his mind, two of the men begin to reach for their saps; while the third reaches draws his scimitar; the other two see the third man and switch to the scimitar as well.
The man who drew his scimitar first, looks at Oret menacingly, his stare icy.
Look here I'm my own authority and I'll decide were and when I'll be some place. So I guess the hard way cause we're not leaving you are, which probably involves me cutting you down! The man tries to demoralize the Adabarian cleric, the last words spoken with particular venom.
Intimidate to demoralize DC 14: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
But his words don't phase the stalwart oread.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
If we were going to kill them, we really should have done it indoors.
Kulga's axe has never left her hand, but she hunkers down behind her shield, visibly prepared to strike, and says, grinning fiercely, So be it.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Garduk cocks his head and studies the thug who drew his blade first. He grimaces in his version of a smile, showing his tusks, and points his club at each of the three men in turn.
"I wonder which is the most painful death," he says, trying to keep his tone casual. "Having your skin melt off your bones, being frozen into a corpsicle, or having your eyes ripped from their sockets by a creature called from another world entirely? Lucky for me, there are three options, and three of you. It would be very helpful if you wouldn't mind answering a few questions about your experience before you go to meet Pharasma."
Knowing Oret is hoping to avoid bloodshed, Garduk turns to the cleric and shrugs, his face spasming with what might be a wink. "Sorry. I just didn't prepare any non-lethal spells today."
Intimidate to demoralize the thugs: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Bokkah |
Bokkah is unsure why the group ushered the others outside to fight them there, but she is more than happy to take these cocky punks down a peg or two. She spins her kukris in her claws menacingly.
Kamda Stoneheart |
Kamda rolls his eyes at the new turn of events. He whispers fiercely to the group
Ach! Ye wanted ta not be drawin' attention ta us, an' then ye go an' do this after we had a peaceful-like thing goin' on? Which is it ye want me ta do, fer Torag's sake?! They was about ta leave tha man alone!
Nevertheless, he draws his axe and shield, and grins menacingly at the thugs.
Jest so ye know, one o' Torag's tenants be ta take no prisoners. I be likin' tha one. A lot.
Chaosorbit |
Their lead man calls out You head down that way. Pointing east. And we'll head down this way. Now pointing west.
We'll all leave the old man alone. If you don't like we'll be forced to teach you a lesson. Last chance, or we'll spill your blood right here.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Walk away then, manling. Walk away.
Kulga rests her axe on her shoulder, and angles herself to head east.
After all, the shopkeep knows where to find us.
Chaosorbit |
At Kulga words the men start backing slowly away and waiting for you to do the same.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Garduk watches the thugs start backing away, feeling a mixture of frustration and relief. He bends down to whisper in Oret's ear.
"What are we doing? They'll be back to hassle the alchemist five minutes after we're gone, won't they?"
Kulga Gruenakslag |
They're either racketeers or enforcers. If they're enforcers, he's in danger whether or not we kill these thugs. Their boss can send more when we leave, and they'll be ready for a lot more trouble than these were. If they're racketeers, he's a target of opportunity, and since we're not locals, they can find easier targets without losing face.
Kulga says this as if from long experience with criminals, which doesn't quite match her claims to nobility.
Garduk the Unteachable |
Note to the GM - I assume that Senzer did not take the opportunity to respond through the Message spell before we were out in the street? I probably should have told him that he could.

Anyways we ain't the man's nanny...
Garduk glances back at the closed door of the alchemist’s shop. It doesn’t look very sturdy. One good kick from one of those guys — racketeer or enforcer — and I bet it will splinter into toothpicks.
Out loud, Garduk says, ”I suppose. But Master Zey did say he wanted us to get the flow of information and potions going again from Senzer to the..." As they retreat, Garduck looks around for eavesdroppers and lowers his voice. "... the team on the Ridge. Hard to do that if these guys slit his throat once we leave him undefended, isn't it?”
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Once we know what the situation is, we can take appropriate steps. We aren't here to turn Bloodcove into Torag's Hall. Senzer's been a good ally to the society, and I respect that, but if he's compromised he'll need to make his own decisions about how to move forward.
Bokkah |
Bokkah agrees with Garduk. "Yes we need to make this contact. I say we just walk back in and take care of our business. If those other punks come back, we take care of them inside once and for all."
Chaosorbit |
Retcon
As you enter the street Senzer replies via message I know the place and will try to meet you.
--------------------
Okay, they moved down the street but are not completely gone they are still eyeing you, what would you like to do?
Kamda Stoneheart |
Kamda claps his hands and then stomps his feet at the thugs, like one would do to scare away a stray cat on one's porch.
Ach! Shoo! Be off wit ye! Ain't no one after blood fer us or yer selves! Go fin' a bar an get a pint! Tha's wha I'm off fer!
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Bokkah, let's just meet him at the Wandering Way
Garduk the Unteachable |
Senzer's response eases Garduk's mind a bit. He quietly tells the others what Senzer has said.
Oret Terra |
With no visible sign of further threat, Oret assumes they make good on their word, and agrees with the rest to meet the man at the Wandering Way. "We may not be his guardians, but by Adabar's Scales, I shall not let unnecessary blood be spilt."
That was some intense rodeo.
Bokkah |
Hearing that he has responded, Bokkah relents. "Yes, let's return to the Wandering Way." She starts to back away from the store slowly.
Chaosorbit |
Sounds like back to the Wandering Way, expect maybe Stonegrin who wants to wait by the man's back door. Please confirm if Stonegrin is staying behind.
Chaosorbit |
After a few moments the back door opens just a crack, as Senzer peeks through. Seeing Stonegrin he waves him in quickly. Senzer wipes his brow and wrings his hands in his leather apron.
Pathfinders I presume! I am glad to came back I was afraid to leave the shop. I’ve been expecting you ever since I stopped contact.
He looks around outside before shutting the door, as he continues, A tragic illness grips my poor son, Roald, and a woman named Lura Ichon claimed to have a cure. I signed away my entire operation to the heartless wench to cure my son, but the elixirs she sends every day are diluted with cheap rum to the point of being almost useless. In exchange she’s worked me sunup to sundown manufacturing drugs for her little den of vice, the Sanguine Pit.
He pauses for a second, listening to the front of the shop.
I know she found a real cure for my boy —tiny amounts of it in those elixirs she sends keep him from getting worse— but I can’t march into that bar of hers and demand it. And as soon as she learns what here with her men, she’ll kill me and Roald, as sure as you’re standing here. I want to help you, really I do, but I gave the Society everything I had for three years. Now, I need you to return the favor. If you want any help supporting your excavation, I need that cure for my son, and some guarantee that Lura Ichon won’t dump us in the bay the moment you leave.
As he finishes his words you here the jingle of the front door bell, it seems someone has come in the front door.
As Stonegrin peels off back to the shop, you get that uneasy feeling. Rather than head back to the Wandering Way you get out of sight in a place you can see part of the shop. Waiting there for a couple minutes, you soon see three familiar looking thugs making for the shop entrance.
You are 2 rounds, 2 double moves from the shop.
I figured you won't really want to split the party, hope you don't mind me taking liberties.
Garduk the Unteachable |
I figured you won't really want to split the party, hope you don't mind me taking liberties.
No objection from me!
Garduk starts running back to the alchemist's shop.
Garduk stops a few feet before the shop entrance and crouches down against the wall. He begins chanting in a low growl, spitting out the guttural syllables like oaths. The fingers of one hand flash through arcane gestures; in the other, he grasps a small cloth bag with the unlit stub of a candle poking out of one end. As the others prepare to enter the shop, Garduk gives them a quick nod to indicate that he will follow as soon as his incantation is complete.
Casting Summon Monster I (full round), using 1 point from arcane reservoir to increase caster level by 1, duration will be 3 rounds (due to CL and Summoner's Charm) once he is finished casting.
Kulga Gruenakslag |
Right, no more warnings!
Kulga starts barreling towards the door, shield first. If there's a thug in between her and it, so much the worse for them.
Oret Terra |
"Those punks, so help me Adabar, we shall show them the might of justice." Oret fumes with a little bit of anger, as he eyes the shop and makes haste towards it. Gripping tightly his weapons he's ready to give them a piece of his mind, in the form of hurt.
Stonegrin Strongale |
Stonegrin picks up a rock to block the back door. In case the thugs is back make yeself be heard. I can handle them on me own if need be. If not I'll be off an ye has my word that we will look into the situation wit miss Ichon!
Chaosorbit |
From the front of the shop you hear, Come on out Senzer, your little friends are gone, I think Lura will want to hear about the special visit. Time to pay her a visit I think.
Senzer looks to you in fear, he tries to speak but the words get stuck in his throat.
Go ahead and post a rounds worth of actions.
You all start moving toward the shop. Once there Garduk will begin to cast.
Stonegrin has another round before you arrive. Once he posts we'll be off and running.
Stonegrin Strongale |
Stonegrin steps into the door and readies himself for the inevitable fight. He hands Senzer a wand.
Here use this on me quick! the Dwarf whispers.
Move action to step inside. Swift action activate Crane Style. Standard action hand wand of Mage Armor to Senzer.
Here's hoping the dude is really an Alchemist and has ranks in UMD...

The thugs move about the building unaware of the other approach and surprised to see Stonegrin emerge from the doorway. The lead thug moves forward drawing his sap.

All Pathfinders are up, Garduk this would be the round were you start casting you SM1, feel free to retcon if you prefer.

Stonegrin takes a blow to the dome but retaliates with a wicked flick of his Sansetsukon.
Crane Style is up so my AC is 17 and my attack at -2
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Damage 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Garduk the Unteachable |
Thanks. Based on where we are on the map, I will take the retcon since it looks as though I may be able to get off a ranged touch attack at the thug closest to the door before any of the melee fighters get inside, so no penalty for making a ranged attack into melee. If I've got that wrong, I will probably keep casting SM1 (but will retcon to have said, as we ran, "Leave the door open until I come in!" ) The following is based on the ranged attack assumption.
Garduk rips open the door before he realizes that the others are still behind him. Seeing the thug just inside the door waiting to strike, Garduk shouts a few words of arcane power, reaches back with one arm and hurls his empty hand forward as though he is throwing a rock.
A speck of white hurtles from his outstretched hand towards the thug, growing into a sphere of snow and ice about six inches in diameter, followed by a trail of mist from the water vapor condensing out of the air due to the sudden magical cold.
Casting Snowball, spending 1 point from the arcane reservoir to increase caster level to 2. If it hits, the target must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or be staggered. Edit: Fort save is DC 16.
Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 212d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
Regardless of the result, once the spell is cast Garduk takes a five-foot step back to get a little distance and make room for the fighters to get through the doorway.
