Mistress Morgana
Morgana turns to Bobbity.
It would be best if we let them be. We not set up to handle swarms of birds. I would rather save my spells for the undead. Do as you want but keep me out of it.

Captain Ehvan looks helplessly as Bobbity and Ilya walk towards the eastern side of the forest, not minding the mass of creatures writhing further east. He follows along with Morgana as the two lead the way into the forest. "Alright, if you want to risk it... There's a tree down there painted with white handprints. It points to the direction where, we should be able to find the path towards the monastary."
He looks to Morgana before following "Don't worry m'lady. I'll do my best to make sure you're safe."
....
It was only a few minutes of walking before you see one of the trees with a glowing white figure from afar.
Perception checks please. Also, you have some time to do preparatory stuff if you wish.
Bobbity
Or you assume everyone enters the forest. Bobbity stops at the edge and looks at the trees gauging age and dryness, trying to calculate how much firewood it would take to start a forest fire. And unless someone stops him, he begins doing just that humming, We Didn't Start the Fire.

@Ilya: You're not sure yet, which is why I called for perception checks since it's still far away.
Ilya Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Morgana Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Everyone is certain that the white glow comes from a mark upon the tree itself. It may be the handprints you are looking for but you cannot discern the direction it points to.
Also, Ilya's sharp eyes notice that the marked tree has a flock of ravens upon it.
Bobbity
Forest fire incoming. Anyone going to stop the halfling's fun or are we torching the place?
Bobbity
After several minutes of fruitless, or in this case, fireless progress, Bobbity's short attention span kicks in and he gives up. He kicks the smoldering pile of sticks and follows after the others, hoping the crows will be more fun. "You win this time Smokey the Bear."
Mistress Morgana
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Morgana realizes Bobbity is trying to start a fire, but has no desire to stop him. She will instead stand behind the Captain Evhan should any wildlife begin attacking.

Updated the map. Using old tokens for now since I don't have the token tool program from here.
The captain smiles when he sees Bobbity give up with the fire "Good, I was hoping not to find a reason to stab you. Now, let me look closer at that..."
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
"Ahah! It points to the right side of that huge tree with ravens. We should be able to find the way from there." he points in that direction as well. "But perhaps we should try to sneak by the ravens... I want to reserve my strength when we face that necromancer."
He crouches and starts to walk ahead of you (Placed path in map FYR).
GM DFang
|
The ravens don't seem to care as the captain leads you until you find an obscure trail that is starting to get overgrown. Eventually you reach the monastery, the dark haze seemingly darker around it due to the tall trees rising over the old structure, covering most of the sunlight.
Vines and other fauna creep across and through the old stones, the grass rising nearly knee high all around. It's very obvious that no one has tended to the area for long. The central path looks very well worn down however with broken weapons scattered near the wooden double door entrance to the monastery.
The monastery itself is mostly a single floor structure with rear end slightly elevated. Sparsely surrounding the building are narrow slits serving as windows.
The captain heads straight to the front doors without resistance and Captain Ehvan gestures for you to follow before opening a door slightly and slipping inside.
Bobbity
Unable to come up with something witty or stupid, Bobbity ops for silence instead.
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 12 - 1 = 23
Being small has its perks though he would never admit it.
Bobbity
"Oh no. I hope something bad doesn't happen to me if I walk towards that fountain," Bobbity says loudly. To emphasize he stomps his feet on the floor to make it sound like he is walking forward.
GM DFang
|
Everything is silent, except for Bobbity's false march and the sound of flickering fires from the torches. No one responds to Bobbity or even Morgana's spell as she cast it.
You feel faint traces of arcane energy near the pool and is certain that it's from the Conjuration school of magic. However, you are not certain if it's strong enough to be activated once more, if it could be activated...
"This isn't right. The scout's last reports said, there were at least twenty skeleton warriors milling around this place..." says Captain Ehvan, drawing out his longsword.
Bobbity
Bobbity looks at the vampire then to the armored guard and then the female caster. "Riiiiiight. Stealth." He doesn't look at all confident in this parties supposed stealth. So, arms behind his head, he follows, whistling a tune. Something was going to happen so he stuck to the back to watch and wait.

"You mean this way?" Capt. Ehvan walks ahead, sword pointed forward. Morgana was following him as quietly as she could managed but bumped into him by accident as he suddenly stopped around the corner. The clanging metal caused a couple of deformed heads with rotting flesh to pop out from above and look at them. They see Capt. Evhan and Morgana, but have not yet noticed the others who are still on the first hallway (nor do you see them yet as well).

You realize they are hanging onto rotting corpses chained spread-eagled to the ceiling linked to more chains secured to blocks on the walls.
You know that these are ghouls.

Wow, just barely.
In an unhurried monotone, Ilya points above. "They are whole corpses attached to the ceiling. They appear to be chained to the wall and primed to fall on us." He squints and peers closely. "They are ghouls. Their bites are quite filthy."
DM - Do the chains look like the ghouls cannot reach us if we do not touch them?
Bobbity
Can't fail the perception roll
"Huh. Would look them going at it? Anyone else hungry now? No. Just me? Alright. Well target practice." He says drawing his light crossbow and moving closer while remaining behind Ehvan. "Got any of that holy water, now would be the time to use it."
Just keep my behind Ehvan when ever he moves.

Despite being visually impaired due to Ehvan's heavy armor, Bobbity managed to put a bolt through the nearest ghoul's brains and it drops down dead. Ilya calls out to Charon to empower his allies but it's not enough to let Morgana hit the remaining enemy.
The remaining ghouls let's out a loud shriek that momentarily overpowers the screams of pain you hear from beyond the next room.
You hear the scuffling from above in the next room.
He charges at Ehvan and leaps forward with jaws wide open...

Everyone may act.
@Ilya: Don't forget your own skeleton.
Bobbity
Bobbity gives the ghoul his creepiest smile as it backs away. "So the dead can still fear? Good." He then grabs one of the flasks of holy water on Ehvan and hurls it at the ghoul.

OK... enough waiting, Morgana delays.
Bobbity fumbles the vial and it crashes just in front of the ghoul, splashing it with more holy water. It's flesh sizzles and the smell of burning rotten meat fills the corridor. The skeleton's first attack causes an arrow to pierce its thigh, but all the following attacks are difficult to land as they try to avoid hitting Bobbity.
The ghoul then steps up and assaults Bobbity in retaliation.

Sorry for the late post. Some emergency stuff caught me at work yesterday until overtime...
