I'm still working up the exact changes for the later part of the module, but I'm ready to start when you are! I just hadn't thought to make the thread yet...

I assume you'd stop in the nearest town for news, right? I can write up a first post in Heldren's tavern if you'd stop there.

Makes perfect sense to me. It'll take time to get to the later stages anyway. An AP is a major commitment (which I am fine making). I should have him built tonight. I know what I want, just need to write it all down.

Feel free to make the first post. Unless I have to wrestle a bear in the Inn, my sheet can be half done and we can start.

Oh, would Bizzk usually stay outside town, or does Kazmir usually bring his friend with him and dare people to question the giant heron's presence? :D


In a very large city he might try to keep the bird around. In a small town, probably hiding and keeping to the trees on the edge of town. They can hide very well, herons.

Backwoods simple folk would probably take offence to a man-sized heron.

They might particularly take offense after the rumors going around of late about odd animals coming out of the woods.

(I actually see a fair number of herons around my part of Ohio. They're normal-sized though.)

Oh, need to give Bizzk feats.

Weapon Finesse and Weapon Focus Bite. My idea is to use him to flank when I summon a creature. While I use spells at a distance.

Reign of Winter actually has a lot of built-in possibilities for side-kicks. So it's a definite possibility. ;)

Of course, but feel free to have Sevak do whatever. That story is all in my head, I can do it from anywhere (with a keyboard!).

Yeah, just wanted you to know why I might not be doing much here during the day (I can't remember the herbalist's name, for one thing XD).

Please do hold off on looking at Reign of Winter! It's one of those adventure paths that even looking at the title of some of the later modules can give huge spoilers. You'll enjoy it much more if you go in completely blind, I think.

The only think I know is that you go to Earth Russia and fight Rasputin? And Irrisen plays some role (I know a little about Irrisen, I planned a game there once). That is literally all I know.

I will say, if you find it impossible to properly balance the tasks ahead (since it is an AP), I would be willing to play two PCs. Just a thought, if you need it. I can imagine re-tooling a pre-made adventure would be hard.

Thus far I don't think anything will be too hard to change, especially since you'll probably be picking up an ally or two fairly early on. But I'll keep that in mind if I can't see how to change things without ruining the fun.

I was kind of surprised you continued on as injured as you were. You've actually got a better chance here than you might think, though--these sprites are pretty cowardly little things, so if you manage to hurt them on your round (Or Bizzk does), you could still get out of this. I'd definitely suggest falling back and healing up afterward.

The constant rolling of 20's has been a bit crazy, though. XD Up to you, if you'd like to try something else we could.

Any chance to round up some NPC allies? In a sandbox game I';d have insisted but I figured in an AP yours hands are tied. I try not to succumb to retreat and withdrawl in games, sucks the fun out of it. Besides, time was of the essence.

I couldn't catch a break with the rolling. The downsides of solo games..

Yeah, I may have to add someone. There's actually some built-in ones starting halfway through this module and continuing most of the way through the AP, but this first part may be the hardest part alone, anyway. XD

Gods, maybe I should be playing a martial class. These early levels make me feel useless.

Or maybe I need to hurry up and get you out of early levels... early levels are swingy enough in a party, solo it looks like they're even worse. I suppose I'll cut even more of the encounters here than I was planning to. Oh, and yes, you can have a Cure Light Wounds prepared instead of Burning Disarm.

I'd hate to miss out on big chunks of the AP. Maybe a bloodrager or a straight up barbarian would have been a better choice. Same character, just different class.

That said, I never do solo games below like level 5, except yours where you wanted to start a little lower. And I level faster too. For example, after you beat that dijinni (hopefully) you'll level.

Honestly, a lot of the first part of this module is just filler combats to establish that the woods are full of dangerous ice/snow creatures now. I can cut several without affecting much of anything, and was already planning to do so.

I was planning on bumping you up to level 3 before too much longer here, myself. That will help, some, because you'll at least have 2nd level spells.

Druid spells are good actually, quite good. Good skills, animal friend, just at low level, you have to fill on the basics, CLW, Endure leaves little room, that's all.

Oh, a little hint--you'll probably want to learn Draconic at some point.

So how will the bird to indoors? Not sure what is reasonable and realistic. Bit of GM expectations here?

He won't be able to fly given the fairly tight quarters, but otherwise, he's a Medium creature, so he shouldn't have any trouble.

Are you enjoying it or are you having to dumb it down too much? I don't want you to struggle in silence. There are ways to deal with it.

I've actually been surprised how little I've had to weaken things down. I did remove some of the encounters leading up to this, but that was more a matter of them being kind of filler.

Well, druids are one of those classes that really blooms after the first four or five levels. Though by that point you'll have some pre-planned, built-in NPC's to accompany you.

Hmmm, I wonder if you'll manage to get the unusual one in the second module to join you... :)

I did, and added Bizzk (who was incorrectly done. He was actually nerfed. No feats!). So the profile here should be uptodate including the stats at the top line.
