Nathadriel stows his shield and readies his bow, nocking an arrow as he moves to the entrance.

I'll plan to shoot at the spell caster next round, trying to remain in cover for now.

Layali, are you sure your HP is correct?

Layali and Leifa drop down into the chamber on the fourth tier, Nathadriel gets into a covered position by the entryway, and Gordon puts an arrow into the flying spear-wielder!

The caster swoops down to the small room you're all in, puts his hands together, and sprays a cone of flame that fills most of the room!

Burning Hands: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2) = 8 DEX DC 13 for half:
Gordon: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Layali: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Leifa: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Nathadriel's position by the door puts him near the narrow end of the cone, so he's not hit.

The spearman's eyes lock on the one who shot him. While his ally fills the room with flame, he pulls the arrow out of his shoulder with a look of stern resolve in his eyes.
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Looking none the worse for wear, the warrior then swoops down through the hole in the ceiling with an expert grace, and swings his blade not at Gordon, but at his bow!
Sunder: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17, Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Gordon's bow is chopped in half!

Party up! The fighter is hovering above the altar, and is "adjacent" to all of you but Nathadriel. Conversely, the caster is at the entryway, and Nathadriel is the only one who could reach him without provoking from the fighter.

Should be now, my bad. I've only taken 9 damage since the start of the day and 4 from burning hands due to hellish resistance.

Badly wounded by the magic attacks, Layali removes the chromatic scepter and points it at the spellcaster and shouts "ACID!" as she activates the device with her own arcane surge of power!

Damage (acid): 3d8 + 1d8 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) + (7) = 17

Wild Magic (if applicable): 1d20 ⇒ 20 Based on the description of the scepter I believe it would be the same as me casting a spell, so Wild Magic check...if not that's fine too :)

Nathadriel releases his arrow at the spellcaster, remaining out of reach of the two flying creatures.

Longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9,Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

I'm assuming I can step out of melee range of the spellcaster in the doorway, so as not to be at disadvantage. Let me know if I can't avoid being in melee.

Layali's spell attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

An orb of acid hurtles from the end of the scepter and crashes into the winged spellcaster! Nathadriel steps back and looses an arrow, but bumps his elbow on the wall and fumbles his shot, bouncing an arrow off the ceiling!

Gordon and Leifa.

If one of the flurry of blows attacks hit: str save or push back 15ft (into the brazier)

crit damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Gordon switches to sword-mode! The spearman barely swats the first swing aside and the second catches him solidly in the leg!
Unfortunately, you don't get Colossus Slayer because he had healed all his previous damage.

STR save (DIS+4): 2d20 ⇒ (17, 10) = 27
Leifa then cuts loose against the same target, giving him a solid whack with her staff and then following up with a roundhouse kick to the face! He spins end-over-end in the air, but flaps his wings hard to keep from being sent backwards into one of the braziers!
I felt like an airborne target would have a harder time resisting that push, so I gave him disadvantage, but he still made it, just barely.

Damage Tally: Fighter 21, Caster 17

The caster shrieks a couple of syllables and nods toward Nathadriel, and the fighter calls back something over his shoulder as he jabs his spear toward Leifa.
Spear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14, Damage: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Leifa spins her staff and sweeps the strike aside!

The mage makes a noise that might have been an expletive, then fires three rays of fire at Nathadriel!
Scorching Ray: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9, Fire damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9
Scorching Ray: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18, Fire damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Scorching Ray: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16, Fire damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Only the center beam hits its target, and the caster makes another loud noise before fluttering backwards about 15ft out into the sky.

WIS/Insight DC 15:

You wonder if maybe the caster was telling the fighter to sunder the other bow in the room, but the fighter couldn't get there because he's surrounded.

Party up! Fighter is still over the center altar, engaging everyone but Nathadriel. The caster is outside, 15ft from the door, but still level with you.

If you were a rogue, your Sneak Attack would be enabled. So... no.

It just occurred to me that in 5E, invisibility is a concentration spell, and I'm pretty sure that getting KO'd breaks concentration, so...

Poof! The mage is visible on the floor.

Both creatures wear studded leather armor. There's a potion of extra healing (heals 4d4+4 HP) that presumably fell from the mage's grip. The mage also has a component pouch and a Hilvan-style dagger. The warrior has his trapezoid-bladed spear, two similarly geometrical shortswords, and what appear to be a few small, triangular chakrams.

Now what? Explore somewhere? Look at the roof some more? Do something with the bodies? (Also, was that a kill or a KO?) Examine the stoneflame some more? Try to get inside one of the lower levels? Take a rest somewhere? Get Gordon a new bow? Something else?

It was in the shrine where you left the horses; a round trip there and back would be well over an hour, plus a few Climb Athletics checks. The box's contents are a deliberately-vague pile of weapons, among which you could probably find whichever sort of weapon you might be looking for. So yes, you could get a replacement bow from there, if you go all the way back.

Now then, it does actually matter where you guys rest this time, so I'll need at least two people suggesting a given place.

Nathadriel sets fire to the bodies, then you all head down to Tier 3 for a breather. (Short rest successful, feel free to roll your HD in the Discussion thread if you haven't rolled them already.)

Gordon, not being as in need of rest as the others, is able to get a better look at the stoneflame. (I'm going off of the magic item ID rules here, though this is special enough that you won't completely understand it.) It is most definitely different from normal flame. It's rich, empowered, almost life-giving; one might even describe it as nutritious, in a sense.

By the end of your hour-long rest, Gordon notes that there is now more flame than stone, and that it gives fresh life to those who spend time with it.

So much so, in fact, that resting by it gives anyone who spends at least one Hit Die resting here an extra 1d6 ⇒ 2 of healing, pretty much just like the bard class feature "song of rest". Additionally, boost all your ability scores by +1 permanently. The extra healing will happen every time you rest here, but the stat increase is a one-time thing.

Once you guys are ready, let me know what you want to do next.

Clambering back down from the roof, you take another look at the fourth tier.

Original description, in case you forgot wrote:
The interior of this area is the smallest yet, no more than 20ft across. In each of its four corners is a stone brazier, and they are all alight. In the center of the room is an altar upon which some incense slowly burns. The inside walls of this room are lined with images of the sun, flames, and winged humanoids.

More that it looks like I didn't communicate:

There are four entryways to this tier: the one you came in (south), the one Leifa came in after getting knocked off the roof (north), and one each on the east and west. They are all basically open passageways, about 10ft deep (from the edge of the room's interior to the outside wall) with no sign of doors or any such thing.

Small piles of ash lie where Nathadriel burned the bodies of the winged humanoids who attacked you.
