Natalie Saratov |

Natalie looks a little annoyed at Corwen's remark: "Dear Corwen, kind words get you nowhere here."
Sense motives: 13 + 9 = 22
She then turns around clearly uncertain if to the newcomer can be trusted, but over hears a few things. "Baron I'll let you decide if Corwen can be of any use to us, I'm not so familiar with the fey but if it comes to combat a extra hand will always come in handy!"

Anastacia Stormwing |

"General Dante is always looking for new recruits." Corwen's comments reminded Anastacia of practical matters. She calls on the power of Pharasma to search out magic auras then begins scanning the area.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

Corwen Surefoot |

"General Dante is always looking for new recruits." Corwen's comments reminded Anastacia of practical matters. She calls on the power of Pharasma to search out magic auras then begins scanning the area.
Corwen frowns thoughtfully. "Well, I don't know as I'm cut out for army life, m'lady, nor do I have long-term plans... I was suggesting more of a temporary arrangement until your company reaches civilisation. I'm sure by then you'll have more of an idea of what I'm suited to. Might such a short-term agreement please m'lords and ladies...?" Corwen speaks with faultless courtesy, though his underlying manner is certainly confident, and he is unafraid to meet the eyes of the noble party members before him.
Also, Perception check to spot my pony, or its remains (or just it saddlebags!).
Perc: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Dang. Hate wasting sweet rolls on unimportant checks...

Natalie Saratov |

I think Anastacia's magic aura might detect the rope I found, I don't remember the spellcraft check to indentify a Rope of Bones
"Well Corwen it might be some time before we are back in civilized lands, right now we are trying to calm the fey, so they stops attacking the human settlements around these woods. You might just have to content with a military life for the time being."

mdt |

No other magic items other than what Natalie found earlier, it's a robe of bones though, not a rope of bones. :)
Corwen does spot the remains of his pony, and it's bloody saddlebags
Everyone ready to head back to the Dryad?

Corwen Surefoot |

Corwen turns to Natalie. "I'm more than willing to help out with a blade, m'lady, but I won't be signing up for military service, I'm afraid. If you're all still happy to have me along though...?"
So long as the crew is happy to have Corwen along without him enlisting, I'm good to go :)

Gorruum |

Sensing that the matter is nearly decided Gorruum hops onto Ubagub with the usual squelch, "Back to tree lady and goat man?"
Yes, ready to return to dryad

Fhârn |

I am fine with heading back to the Dryad : )
And I deter to Dante for the call on how persistent the recruitment offer shall be :P
Nodding in agreement with the frog-man (Newer thought *this* was a thing I would live to see! Heh) Fhârn headed back towards his steed.
"Aye. No sense in lingering here - there appears to be no more scythe trees and I rather not spend much more time then needed here in the swamps ..."

Natalie Saratov |

Natalie walks out of the mud, once on dry road again she pulls out a dagger and starts scrapping the mud off her boots. Sighing she says quitely: "Looks like I need to look for a new pair!! Good boots are hard to come by. I'm ready to get the heck away from these parts when you are."

Gorruum |

"Gorruum teach more of swamp next time. No boots good start."
Next time we're in a swamp, all allies within line of sight of Gorruum get +2 bonus on initiative checks and Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks and also leave no trail unless desired. I'll try to remember to post it when we enter a swamp.

Anastacia Stormwing |

Might as well move on.
Anastacia climbs aboard Avalanche. "I agree, Fhârn. We've done what we came to do here. We've much still to do. maybe you can identify that robe. Be careful though. It reeks of necromancy."

The group begins heading home, the first day is uneventful, and the night again unrestful Con checks, DC 12 Shimmer/Ikit/Gorruum (assuming Ikit's still around), DC 14 everyone else.
The next day is damp and foggy, as the group grows closer to the Dryad's glen. Due to the travelling though, they are still half a day away around noon.
Perception checks please

Natalie Saratov |

"It's not so bad out in the wild Natalie." the ironclad general says with a smile.
Retcon the previous day.
The tall bulky man looks the newcomer Corwen up and down. "Little light framed for a soldier." he surmises.

Corwen Surefoot |

Retcon the previous day.
The tall bulky man looks the newcomer Corwen up and down. "Little light framed for a soldier." he surmises.
"I agree completely," Corwen replies glibly. "I'd make a terrible soldier. Wouldn't be worth the cost of a uniform."
*whistles innocently*

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

Back, sorry for the long absence. I've been seriously busy at work and have been working late. Should be able to keep up from here. :)
Sense Motive vs Corwen: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Wilhelm looks the newcomer over as he shakes his hand. He stands aside and listens as his councilors fill him in. He seems well enough to me, though how he ended up so deep in the forest is a mystery. He adds, "Assisting us with our tasks should prove sufficient and I believe we've enough supplies to see us through. And on that, cousin, we can be agreed."
Would use my last uses of lay on hands before we sleep to top people up. Between Anastacia, Shimmer and I, we should be full health. :)
Fortitude Wilhelm: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Fortitude Triupmh: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Rising early, Wilhelm kneels and completes his normal prayers and remounts Triumph. Seeing the bags under Corwen's eyes, Wilhelm asks, "It's within the power granted to me to see your fatigue away. Will you allow me to touch a shoulder to do so?"
Riding through the day, Wilhelm is unusually quiet. I very nearly met the Lady of Graves yesterday. Those trees, through fine plate nonetheless, dashed me near to ribbons. If not for my companions...
Use Lay on Hands mercy to remove fatigue if allowed.
Perception Wilhelm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Perception Triumph: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

mdt |

And here we go
Everyone who made an 18 or better perception check can act in the surprise round as spiders begin to appear
As the group is walking through the forest, a few hours away from the dryad's clearing. And as they walk, spiders begin to drop from the trees.
Surprise Round

Init Wilhelm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Init Spiders: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Natalie, Spiders, Everyone else who can go. My assumption is Wilhelm used lay on hands to remove fatigue on those who failed the fort save, so reduce his LoH's by that many.

Corwen Surefoot |

Mini retcon - sorry, didn't notice this previously :/
Rising early, Wilhelm kneels and completes his normal prayers and remounts Triumph. Seeing the bags under Corwen's eyes, Wilhelm asks, "It's within the power granted to me to see your fatigue away. Will you allow me to touch a shoulder to do so?"
A little surprised at the apparent paladin's offer, Corwen smiles brightly through his fatigue (is that what the Con check was for?). "Thank you m'lord, I'll gladly accept your holy offer."
Back to the combat...
Might I wait till the spiders have moved to declare my action? I'll be wanting to get into a flanking position immediately, on the periphery of the battle if possible. Are there any terrain issues? I may well be using Acrobatics to get where I need to go...

mdt |

Yep, you go after the spiders. Forest, so undergrowth makes it somewhat difficult terrain. If there's a 'stump' on the map it's a tree, unless it's obviously a broken off stump. Downed trees impede movement, etc.

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

Looks like only Shimmer and Corwen have needed it so far. Shimmer dealt with her own fatigue, so I'm at 4/5 Lay on Hands use. I have nothing else as I didn't see anything. :(

Natalie Saratov |

Since it's the surprise round and I'm riding on the horse with Anastacia I'll just draw my rapier and prepare for the battle.

mdt |

Natalie draws her rapier, and the spiders rear up and spit streams of web fluid at the party.
Web, Ikit/Shimmer: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 2 = 4 Miss
Web, Ikit/Shimmer: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 - 2 = 23
Web, Ikit/Shimmer, Crit: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 2 = 17 Critical hit!
Web, Dante: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 2 = 7 Miss
Web, Dante: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 4 = 10 Hit!
One of the spiders spitting at Ikit and Shimmer's horse hit's especially well, and the webbing sticks the two together to their horse, and the horse to the ground, entangling all 3. The horse immediately begins to panic and try to break free... Although it can't until it has an action next round
The rest of the spiders scuttle toward the nearest tasty snack.
Charge, Ubagub: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 2 = 12 Miss
Charge, Dante's Horse: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 2 = 14 Hit!
Charge, Fharn's Horse: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16 Hit!
Two of the spiders sink their fangs into the horses, causing them to scream and panic.
Bite, Dante's horse: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Bite, Fharn horse: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Poison Save, Dante's Horse: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Poison Save, Fharn's Horse: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Both horses manage to shake off the poison, but both are in a panic.
Handle Animal checks, DC 20 for horses that are entangled or bitten to maintain control, move action. Reduce by 5 if they are combat trained. Ride Check DC 20 if they don't calm down. If the ride check fails, the horse bucks it's rider off (if not entangled) or does damage to the rider (if entangled). Everyone else up.

Fhârn |

Surprise Round
Handle Animal, DC 15: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Unlikely/unable to make the DC 20 Ride check in armour, I'll just (feather) fall off instead :P
With a startled cry, Fhârn calls to the air to form a cushion underneath him turning the brief fall into a somewhat graceful landing on his feet.
Move action to try and control horse, Swift Action to cast Feather Fall. If possible, attempting to target others that also makes an involuntarily dismount!

Dante Skyborn |

Handle Animal, DC 15: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Ride, DC 20: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
The web entangles Dante's horse, Mandarb panics and begins to struggle attempting to break free.
Dante is unable to calm the animal but his masterful riding skills keep him firmly in the saddle.

Wilhelm Orlovsky |

Ride to guide with knees: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Wilhelm yelps in alarm as the spiders emerge from all around them. seeing Dante alone, isolated from the others, and entrapped in sticky web, Wilhelm says over his shoulder, "Hold on and try to avoid stabbing me in the back." Spurring Triumph into action and guiding him with his knees, Wilhelm draws his falchion and swings as Triumph reaches the spider near Fharn. He shouts above the clangor and terrified whinnying of the horses, "General, hold strong. I'll be there to help shortly."
Falchion attack with PA/bless/higher ground: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 12 - 2 + 1 + 1 = 25
Falchion damage with PA: 2d4 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 + 6 = 18
Triumph hoof attack with bless: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 = 9
Triumph hoof damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
With 65 feet of movement (normally 80, but he's lugging around two armored men), Triumph can easily get to my current location even with rough terrain. Attack the spider near Fharn.

Gorruum |

Surprise Round (Ubagub only)
As the spider charges the slurk, Ubagub shakes with rage and as before with the trees, he grows significantly in size. Then his massive tusked jaws lunge forward in a snapping bite at the spider right next to him.
Bite: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Damage (Bite): 3d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 5, 1) + 12 = 22

mdt |

Wilhelm is fine. Guide with knees is a free action (technically it says no action, but it should be a free action), while charge is a standard action in the surprise round (which is what I assume they are doing). However, the difficult terrain stops a charge. So, what can happen is the horse moves up to the spider, and Wilhelm can attack it. Triumph just can't also attack. Wilhelm, no need to roll checks you can't fail. Guide with Knees is DC 5, you literally can't fail it
Wihelm's horse moves over to the spider on Fharn, and he brings down his falchion with a might blow and splits the spider in half.
Ubagub meanwhile swallows his whole, legs and all, chomping happily at the sudden tasty snack that dropped down into his large mouth. It's rather odd to see a raging gecko make a 'mmm yummy' noise.
Waiting on Corwyn only I believe for the next round.

Corwen Surefoot |

I'm assuming I'm able to move after Triumph comes to a halt...?
Corwen rolls off Wilhelm's horse and darts across the turf, trying to help Dante outflank the spider that is currently assailing him.
Hmmm, let's hope I roll well for Initiative next round...

mdt |

Round 1
Init Anastacia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Init Corwen: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Init Wilhelm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Init Spiders: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Natalie, Fharn, Spiders, Everyone else. Ubagub can choose to go on his own initiative before the tasty spiders instead of Gorruum's, but if he does, Gorruum will take a -2 on all attack rolls due to Ubagub moving before he was ready. Otherwise, Ubagub goes on 3 with Gorruum.

Natalie Saratov |

Natalie decides to get off the horse asap fast dismount: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Then she moves closer to the spider and prepare an attack for when it gets closer to me.
"Creepy crawly come meet my sword!" she yells.
attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 1 = 18
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Fhârn |

Round 1
With a quick appreciative nod at Wil, Fhârn mutters a short phrase. In response the runes of his armour glows softly in blue and the mage-knight lifts a few feet off the ground. Quickly, he surges north to intercept the spider eyeing Shimmerscale and Ikit - he suspected that they would rather not have it skittering around while they were still webbed.
"Munin, make sure Hestor doesn't bolt!"
Damage?: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Standard to activate Fly, Move action to position myself between Shimmerscale, Ikit and the spider. Drawing Bardiche as part of the move action (I assume I wear it strapped over my back or something. Honestly, I have no idea if there is any proper way to carry a polearm except in ones hands :P). Swift to activate Arcane Strike

mdt |

The spiders move in and attack...
Charge, Ubagub: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 2 = 20 Hit!
Charge, Dante's Horse: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 = 17 Hit!
Charge, Corwyn: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8 Miss!
Charge, Corwyn: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10 Miss!
Charge, Natalie: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 2 = 15 Miss!
Ubagub and Dante's horse are both bitten by the spiders, fangs sinking deeply.
Bite, Dante's horse: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Bite, Ubagub: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Poison Save, Dante's Horse: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Poison: 1d2 ⇒ 2 4 rounds, 1d2 str, DC 14
Ubagub needs to save vs poison
Dante's horse shudders and begins bucking again, breaking out of the webs, although Dante is still webbed to it's back. The horse is now frothy with sweat, and seems to be weakened.
Natalie hits her spider as it closes with her, but despite being damaged, it still attacks. Fharn however, rams his polearm into the thing's mouth and the spider rolls over on it's back, legs twitching as it closes.
Everyone else up

Corwen Surefoot |

Corwen ducks beneath the charging spider's attacks, then takes advantage of the distraction Dante is providing to make an attack on the flanked spider's exposed body.
+1 rapier (flanking): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Sneak attack damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) = 12
Corwen then attempts to duck away from the combat, shifting out while hoping that Wilhelm will move in.
Looking to move east (?) six squares, and one north also. I'll move Corwen's marker on the map when I get back to my computer.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32

Dante Skyborn |
