Round 3
Init Abbas: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Init Gniel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Init Palomia: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Init Tolla: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Init Scorpion: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Order : Palomia, Scorpion, Everyone Else
Tolla, I forgot to put it in the previous one, but you have been poisoned. Fort DC 17; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d2 Strength damage; cure 1 save.
Tolla Eberhart
Looks like I should have saved that Strength Surge. Pretty sure I don't get my AoO vs grabs for this one, either. :P
RAGING Fort save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Str damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
"Put me down, you overgrown sand-lobster!"
Gniel
My bad. Sorry
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 191d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Tolla Eberhart
I thought we were waiting on the scorpion?
Order : Palomia, Scorpion, Everyone Else
mdt
Doh! Sorry, my bad. I completely messed that up, sorry Gniel, Abbas! I'll post the scorpion in a bit. Working. Sorry, this health thing has affected my memory and it's going to be a few weeks before that straightens out.
mdt
The scorpion squeezes Tolla with it's gripped claw.
Constrict: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
It then attempts to sting Abbas, as he's close enough and being an annoyance.
Sting Abbas: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Sting Abbas Confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Ouch, Confirmed
Sting: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 3) + 8 = 13
The heavy tail darts forward, and Palomia and Gniel see 3 inches of stinger protrude from Abbas's back, piercing a kidney. Dark poison drips from the tip as it withdraws, and the poison obviously enters Abbas's abdomen.
Sting—injury; save Fort DC 17; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d2 Strength damage; cure 1 save.
Gniel's attack occurs now, and then Abbas. Sorry for the earlier confusion.
Tolla Eberhart
Just wanted to clarify some grapple rules: 1. The scorpion has to make a CMB check to maintain the grapple. It gets +5 to that check for starting its turn as the controlling grappler, but I have a +10 to my CMD vs grappling from Palomia's Grease spell (assuming it went off). My CMD also remains unchanged while raging because the increase in my Strength cancels out the -2 to my AC. 2. If the scorpion makes its check to maintain the grapple, it does constrict damage in addition to automatically doing damage equal to whatever natural attack is doing the grab.
Abbas Majidi
Sorry I have been quiet, big mess up at work yesterday had me running around like crazy...
Abbas grunts as the stinger pierces his midsection but the Suli stays on his feet. No longer interested in letting this last any longer than necessary, Abbas peers into his minds eye and calls forth the elemental fury of his hidden heritage, his arms erupting in hissing acid and coating his faclhion's blade. Enough of this creature, die!
Acid CHOP!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage!: 2d4 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 8 + (1) = 15
Tolla Eberhart
Tolla feels herself grow weaker from the poison, and groans in pain as the scorpion squeezes her despite her greased clothing. Seeing Abbas' acid-coated arms (in both senses), her eyes widen as she shouts, "What in the nine hells is that?" Not letting herself be too distracted from the task at hand, though, she lashes out at the beast holding her.
Raging Dragon Stance Unarmed Flurry 1: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 - 1 - 1 = 7
Raging Dragon Stance Unarmed Flurry 2: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 - 1 - 1 = 16
Damage?: 1d6 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 10
mdt
The scropion finally slumps with a rattle, it's tail twitching as it uncoils onto the ground. The claw holding Tolla releases enough for her to slip out with the grease spell, but she's not sure she would have been able to without it.
Abbas needs to make a fort save, DC 17, as stated earlier, he's been poisoned. Tolla needs to make another save, the poison lasts 6 rounds
Tolla Eberhart
Raging Fort Save!: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Str damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Raging Fort Save!: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Abbas Majidi
The acid dissipates from the Suli with no indication of its presence. As Tolla slips out of the scorpion Abbas will offer to help her up. This land is rife with creatures of ferocity. I begin to understand why the only marker of civilization we have seen are husks and broken. If someone lives around here they are powerful or well protected.
Gniel
Gniel goes about harvesting crystals from the body of the scorpion.
All the more reason to try and find them, if they exist. We can't survive forever like this.
Tolla Eberhart
Tolla slides out of the scorpion's claws, willing the her blood to stay hot and angry until the poison stops hurting quite so much. She then lays limp on the ground, breathing heavily. When she gets her breath back, she raises her head to look at Abbas, her brow wrinkled. "What...the hell...are you?" she asks, before lying back again and trying not to hurt herself by moving too much. "...Somebody get me the healer's kit..." she mumbles.
Heal check: Treat Deadly Wounds: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Relas
Relas comes charging up on the scene, out of breath. "Palooooo! There was a big scary lizard back there but I think I lost him! It was big and fast and had a funny frill on its neck and- wow, what happened here?" he says, suddenly taking notice of the dead scorpion.
Gniel
Gniel puts the nodule with the others in his pack, then goes to get the healers kit.
K Planes on Abbas: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26I assume 26 would be more than enough to identify him based on what Gniel just saw and spending some time around him.
I suspect our dear compartriot Abbas is a suli-jann, one of the Geniekin. Strong connection to elements, if I remember correctly. They can channel it through weapons and such.
Abbas Majidi
Abbas offers a grin and nod at the gnome, Indeed I am so touched. Blessing or no I am more robust and occasionally am able to tame my blood to serve my purposes. Looking at Tolla, But I am still just a man, and your comrade and no threat to you...
Relas
"I don't know! I was doing my best to be quiet and stealthy; maybe it didn't notice my steps," Relas grumbles, sounding irritable for the first time. "It probably didn't have any trouble hearing any of you, the way you all stomp around."
mdt
Relas wouldn't have smelled it being underground, and as he says, he's stealthy. Also, I rolled two encounters, rather than having two things attack Relas, I figured one on each group was better. :)
Palomia Kasic
"It's okay," Palomia sighed. "At least now we know that there are things to watch out for under the ground. Do we still have those potions we found earlier? I hate to have to use one so soon but it might help Tolla get back on her feet a little quicker - sitting out in the open like this isn't good, especially since Relas said there was a giant lizard somewhere up ahead."
That's fine! Palo is just being her usual somewhat-grumpy self and Relas is a little annoyed because he can't possibly account for every single thing that might want to eat the party. At least it was just a giant scorpion and not Graboids. If it were Graboids, Palo'd be hauling butt to a different hex :3
Abbas Majidi
Sorry that I didn't post yesterday, work has been a bit *AAGGH!*, also I will be heading out of town for a conference tomorrow so my posting will be spotty through next friday. I should still be able to get in fairly regularly but I wanted to give a heads up. Bot me as needed if I am quiet for too long...
You say you would haul ass if it were graboids but what you really mean is we would all be walking really slowly to the next large rock praying that something else would get eaten before we got to it... :p
I am fine with using whatever we must to keep us moving, I don;t know thatwe can plan "ahead" with things being the way they are...
Gniel
We can rest as long as necessary, but we should keep traveling. And hope we find some semblance of civilization soon.
Tolla Eberhart
Having failed to repair her wounds in any significant manner, Tolla lets out a long, frustrated breath. Turning to Abbas, she asks incredulously, "Geniekin? I swear, are Palomia and I the only humans here?" This rhetorical question having been declared, Tolla seems to have vented off some of her annoyance and now feels mostly just her injuries.
"I don't think it's safe to camp here, if there are more beasts around, but we also have no clue as to where would be safe. I don't know if I could survive a fight with a goblin, let alone the monsters we've been fighting. I could really use one of those potions, at least to get me a little further from dying."
mdt
I assume Gniel will use spellcraft to identify the potions, so you aren't drinking them blindly.
Gniel checks the potions, and one is a potion of Neutralize Poison. The other is a potion of Cure Serious Wounds.
Drinking the potion results in Tolla healing...
Potion: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 7, 3) + 5 = 22
...about 2/3rds of the wounds she's taken.
Gniel
Let's keep moving then! Gniel says brightly as Tolla's condition greatly improves.
Palomia Kasic
Palomia fidgets and flaps around indecisively for a moment before sighing. "May as well, we've come this far. I just wish there were an easier way of fighting these animals or avoiding them. The meat and other things we can harvest are certainly useful, but I can't help but wonder if it's worth the effort or not; we've already had two or three close calls as it is..."
mdt
The group continues on to finish exploring, bypassing the lizard Relas saw before. One more day, remove four rations
Terrain B9: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Terrain A10: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Random ENcounter
B9: 1d100 ⇒ 94
A10: 1d100 ⇒ 100
Relas Perception B9: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Relas Perception A10: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
As they explore the next area, they find that they have gotten out of the wild area, and are back into a relatively sparser vegetation area, with fewer trees and dried grass. Even so, Relas somehow manages to stumble over an absolutely massive animal, that moves on 2 legs. It has two stubby arms, and a head with a massive mouth full of fangs. The thing chases him until he almost reaches his maximum distance from Paloma before giving up and letting him go. Relas then returns and the group makes a wide berth around the creature. Four more rations
You find the remains of someone who was killed. You are not sure what race they were, they don't look human, or any race you are familiar with. They are just bones, with scraps of leather attached, probably several years dead. Medium sized. Nothing is of use on the corpse, except for an odd red dagger. The dagger looks to have been forged in one complete piece, and the handle and blade seem to be made of the same oddly translucent material. It is warm to the touch. It looks a lot like cloudy red quartz, but feels like neither stone nor metal nor wood, but some odd mix of the three.
As the group continues on A10, Relas again spots a danger, and ends up being chased by a pack of Hyenas, who nip and bite at his flank until he can't take the damage anymore and he finally vanishes as one rips his throat out.
Paloma and the group give the area ahead a wide berth, and then they finally find some real signs of life. An entire battle field. It looks to be several hundred years old, as the wooden stakes are rotting, and the trenches falling in on themselves, but it's obvious someone fought here, and fought hard. It looks like they used the black wall as a back stop defense position. There are lots of bones, but very little other usable materials, as if someone has stripped the battlefield of anything useful. The skeletons are a mixture of humanish and humanoid skeletons.
Four more rations
Palomia Kasic
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Perhaps due to their surroundings, Palomia is on higher alert than usual and spots the glint of something shiny among what appears to be a pile of unidentifiable bones and old leather clothing. "Hey, take a look at this! This proves that there's other intelligent life around here besides us. Doesn't look like there's anything useful except for this strange-looking dagger, though."
Baru Andrezi
Poking out of a ruined lean to, a horned humanoid raises a worn crossbow cautiously. His tone goes ominous, ancient, and vaguely lizard-like.
"Who...Who are you?! Are you with the hobs?! If you are, I swear I will kill you, even if I have to die on this cursed soil!
Obviously, to those familiar with any bit of body language, the tiefling doesn't seem to eager to shoot, considering his dirt cakes face and the slight quivering of his loaded crossbow.
Abbas Majidi
Good, intelligent life. Bad, they like to kill each other...
As the tall Suli looks over the area he is taken aback by the sudden threat of violence. Holding his hands high above his head to show he does not have a weapon the Suli offers a half smile, We are not here to harm you. We are explorers, nothing more...
The fighter moves his hand slightly to emphasize they are empty. How noice does he sound? Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Abbas Majidi
Abbas LAUGHS and puts his hands down and gestures to himself and the others in the hard tongue of Terran.
Does Baru have a crystal on him like the rest of us?
Palomia Kasic
Palomia's eyes light up in recognition as the strange horned man first speaks. Though the second language he uses isn't one that's familiar to her ears or tongue, the first one is.
"We don't know who the "hobs" are - we've been placed in this land by some greater power whose motives are unclear. We've been wandering around, looking for signs of life and civilization. Who are you?"
Baru Andrezi
Seeing the woman respond, he shakes his head in disbelief.
"You've never heard of hobs? You know, hobgoblins? Big ugly things that look like goblins, only bigger and less green?" Well, you all certainly don't look the part of them...Especially with those weird crystals in your heads...What Hectate are you from?"
He then looks to the man who speaks, lowering his crossbow, but keeping it at the ready and coming fully out of his hiding spot, showing a couple of weapons at his hip and a battle worn chain shirt covered mostly by a mud stained cloak.
"Strangers, huh? Newcomers? You come from the Center Hectate, I bet? Nothing is quite so barren after spending time there."
After responding to each, he gives them his name, in both languages.
"My name is Baru."
Gniel
"We're...not from around here. We have been wandering around this place for days. Is this place called Hectate?
Palomia Kasic
"Hectate? I'm not sure what that word means, but we were deposited on a platform in the middle of an ocean and took a strange boat from there. We pushed through some sort of black barrier to end up in this area; do you mean that there are more places like this beyond those barriers? And yes, I know of hobgoblins - just haven't heard them called "hobs" before is all." She then pauses for a moment and adds, "I'm Palomia; my companions here are Abbas, Gniel, and Tolla. There's also my companion Relas; a magical creature that I call upon to aid me, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to do so again until after I've had enough rest."
