Sera, initially happy to see people alive, suddenly gets more serious at the idea these people could be graverobbers. She turns to look at Cassyt to see her reaction to these people in the crypt, her hands beginning to drip shimmering pink dust on the floor.

Ready a sleep spell if these new people get aggressive/attack.

The Elf stands putting away her scimitar and running a hand through her somewhat grubby blonde hair, " Oh no, we weren't raiding we just came to, er, verify... " The Half-Orc stands up a little unsteadily and interrupts the elf. " Yeessh! So many trinkets in here. Hic! " His sentence punctuated with another hiccup and a swig from a bottle.

" Ahem, we came to verify the rumours of the undead, but our activity here drew so many to us that we had to barricade the door. We've been stuck in here for a few days, do you have any food you could share? We're starving! "

The half Orc stumbles forward and tries to envelope Beryl in a big hug "Thanksh for shaving ush! "... Beryl (and everyone else) notices that the pockets of these three are stuffed full.

The Teifling and the Elf wear leather armour and have a scimitar each and a light crossbow slung over their shoulder. The Half-Orc is wearing commoners cloths and has a shortsword in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.

*Evil Smile*

Rakish blinks. Genuinely blinks. He says, I will give you meat. Pink, he says, looking at Sera, you will make a cook fire; inferior non-lizards require cooked meats.

Rakish turns and leaves, headed to the creatures he just slew. He starts cutting chunks of meat from the zombie flesh.

After he separates a few cuts, he trims them into proper steaks using the blade of a hand axe and takes them back to roast over the fire.

In his drunken stupor the Half Orc smiles with a slightly confused look on his face, but the Elven woman steps up and jabs him in the ribs. " No, I don't think so, the Dead don't need these where they are... You have our thanks for saving us, but we'll be leaving with what we have, if you're smart you'll take what you can carry and get out too! "

Cassyt steps forward from where she's been hovering at the back and says with a waiver in her voice " The dead deserve your respect, I... I won't let you take their belongings! " she quickly glances at those of you who are around, hoping you will continue to back her up.

Behind the Elf, the Tiefling stands up, a hand on his sword hilt.

Sera sighs, You do realize how foolish you sound right? she remarks to the robbers. In a mocking voice, Oh thank you for saving us, we couldn't possibly defeat the things you just defeated. Rakish let's out a series of gutteral ticking sounds, like a deep slow rumble from a lion.

I was going to post more, but Sera's post is nearly perfect. So I'll just let Rakish's growl contribute to her statement.

Probably counts as a help action for advantage.

The sight of Rakish holding a steak of rotting human flesh, a gutteral reptilian growl issueing from his throat is enough to make these thieves really consider Seraphyna's words and rethink their life choices up to this point, even the drunk Half Orc takes notice especially when the ground start ps to rumble.

"The whole crypts are crumbling!" the drunk brute yells, falling to the ground and emptying his pockets frantically, the forgotten whiskey bottle tips over spilling the remains of its contents.

The Elf frowns but the tingling shakes his head and places a hand on her shoulder, then they both start emptying their pockets and placing items on various shelves, though who can say where everything originally came from...

Cassyt lets out a little sigh of relief.

"You are right, of course," The Tiefling says. "Now we have put back what doesn't belong to us, will you let us leave?"

Cassyt nods but quietly says "Perhaps we should escort you out though..."

The raiders grumble at this prospect saying they'd rather try and leave the way they came in...

The grave robbers are escorted out of the crypts, back the way you came in and handed over to some Other Kelemvorites near the entrance. Cassyt thanks you all for the assistance and you all re-enter the crypts making your way carefully back down past the collapsed stairs.

The crypts lead around the corner and you briefly inspect a semi-circular chamber to the left (area 8). It's walls are lined with nearly a hundred loculi, each containing the bones of one or more deceased residents of Phlan. An obelisk stands in the center of the chamber. Its four faces are covered in mysterious runes.
The room seems clear of undead, and Cassyt informs you all that the runes are celestial and though she hasn't finished her studies and can't read the script, she has been told that it describes the goodly lives of those intered in the chamber...

The party moves on, down some stone steps, at the bottom the hall opens up into a large room. (Area 9)
The walls here are lined with burial niches containing skeletons, as in other areas of the catacombs, but skeletons also stare down at you from the ceiling where they were set into shallow plaster. Some arm bones, leg bones, and skulls have cracked free and fallen to the floor, but most remain in the positions and poses they were given ages ago. The flickering light from Cassyt's lantern gives the eerie illusion that the skeletons are moving. The group makes it halfway across the chamber when suddenly the illusion becomes reality! Three skeletons break free of the plaster above and fall down among the party!

"Gah!" yells Cassyt.

Rakish

With his hand axes ready, Rakish slashes at the skeleton that fell down next to him. He lands one solid blow that cracks the skeletons collarbone, the other barely misses glancing off a scrap of leather armor on the skeletons shoulder.

Garth

Garth springs into action drawing a shortsword and readying the club that's Rakish had made for him. The skeleton he attacks ducks under the shortsword, but Garths new club smashes into the skeleton, ribs snap off and fly through the air and the skeletons spine snaps and it's legs crumble to the floor, leaving just its head and shoulders crawling on its arms.

Raeva

AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Slashing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Raeva dashes away from the skeleton as it swipes it's clawlike finger bones at him, drawing bright red lines across the tieflings face and neck. Blood runs from Raeva's fresh wound as he summons ball of flame and shoots it straight at the skeleton. The skull bursts into flames, blackening as half of it turns to ash.

Sahil

Ranged Attack 1 has Disadvantage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Ranged Attack 2 has Disadvantage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Aiming at the closest skeleton Green Sahil looses two bolts at point blank range, the skeleton knocks one of the crossbows down at the last minute, causing the first bolt to smash into the floor. The second bolt however punches straight into the skeletons skull knocking its head off! The body however seems still able to function.

Though the bolt didn't seem as effective as Garths club, it seemed just as effective as usual... (Out of Character Skeletons are vulnerable to bludgeoning Damage in 5e but not resistant to peircing.)

Cassyt

Skeleton Dex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
" Ah! Er, Kelemvor smite this abomination! " Cassyt yells in a piping high pitched voice as a white radiant flames decend upon the skeleton next to her but the skeleton leaps out of the way.

Skeletons

Slashing Damage : 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Garth takes 7 Dmg
Blue vs Rakish: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Green vs Sahil: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
The skeletons swipe their claw like fingers at Garth, Rakish and Sahil. Rakish is able to fend off the skeletons blow, Sahil easily dodges out of the way but Garth is caught by the hand, the sharp bones finding a gal in his scalemail and cutting deep into his side.

Seraphyna

Ranged attack has disadvantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Sera fires another pink bolt of magical energy that flashes past a skeleton and blasts a chunk of stone off the wall!

Beryl

With a calm one liner Beryl reminds the skeleton that it should be resting by bringing his mace down upon it and smashing it to dust! (Red skeleton dead)

Suddenly there is more crumbling plaster from above and two more skeletons drop down to their feet. One behind Raeva and the other in front of Beryl!

I was only down 4 hp, so minimum roll will bring me back to full! Thanks, DM!

Beryl takes a moment before helping to tend the wounds of Garth, Raeva, and Cassyt to check the wound that he took. Once finding it minor, he checks his range of motion and moves on to help the other wounded first.

Using Second Wind.

After he is satisfied that the others are taken care of, the stout warrior sits in a corner and begins to softly sing while he cleans his wound. The song is like a lullaby, one that a mother might sing to her child, yet has a definite cadence that seems counter to the original intent of the song. The style seems dwarvish, yet the song is one commonly known to humans of the North. Beryl's singing seems to evoke a tinge of sadness...

Having been unhurt so far in these crypts, Sera occupies herself with looking over the room they chose to rest in, and the obelisk it contains. With that 3 minutes out of the way, she mindlessly flicks at things that catch her eye, and twirls her hair with a finger. When Beryl start up his song, she ponders dancing to it, but without a partner to dance with, decides against.

When he finishes, she pipes up, Do you know Last Night of the Kings? A bardic group called Van Canto sung it the first time I heard it, and it seems like it might be a good one to add to your fun but melancholy repertoire.

Absently, Beryl looks up at Seraphyna and smiles, Hm? Oh, um, hum me a few bars, lass. Don't recognize the name.

Don't forget to add you Con modifier to your roll Raeva, I believe you're back on full Hp?

Time passes as Sera tries to remember Last Night of the Kings and teach it to Beryl while wounds are tended to. Once everyone has been patched up it's time to get back to exploring and clearing the crypts.

Moving back through the skeleton ceiling room, unhindered this time, the party heads north down some stairs into the next chamber.

Niches near the floor of this chamber are filled with stacked bones, and skulls are neatly arranged about six inches apart along a ledge. The wall above the skulls bears an inscription, partially obscured by centuries of accumulated dust and cobwebs.

There's a door to the east and a short corridor to the north. Consulting your map you know that the door to the east leads to a single room, where as the corridor to the north leads further into the crypts.

Beryl listens quietly for a minute or two, humming along, then breaks into accompaniment with Seraphyna showing surprising range. The lyric seems a mite dark, despite a more upbeat tune, lass. But I like it, the warrior says with a smile, Well, let's get ta movin' eh?

Gesturing up at the inscription, Cassyt, might ye be knowin' what that says? It might be wise to check this room before we continue on into the crypt...

If someone has an appropriate cantrip, they could clean off the inscription.

Can I use Mage Hand to wipe it clean?
Raeva tries to read the inscription, wiping it clear as best he can.

Raeva casts a quick spell and makes a swiping motion in the air, suddenly the cobwebs and grime are wiped away revealing the inscription. Carved into the stone wall in common are the words:
A question speak you, and answer will these departed.
