I'm trying to build a new character, but it sort of depends on how the Racial Heritage feat actually works to see if it functions as intended.
Prerequisite: Human.
Benefit: Choose another humanoid race. You count as both human and that race for any effects related to race. For example, if you choose dwarf, you are considered both a human and a dwarf for the purpose of taking traits, feats, how spells and magic items affect you, and so on.
What exactly falls under that last bit? I'm considering taking a Favored Class Bonus as though I were of that race. Also, I stumbled upon a thread that said you can't take racial archetypes that appeared in the ARG due to particular wording, which seems to contradict the FAQ about the feat. And then there's this bit from the Additional Resources:
Note: Alternate racial traits, racial archetypes, racial evolutions, racial feats, and racial spells are only available for characters of the associated race. Racial equipment and magic items can be purchased and used by any race as long as the specific item permits it (for example, only halflings can purchase and use solidsmoke pipeweed).
Curiously, the feat is still PFS-legal, but apparently doesn't do anything, since the AR specifically state I need to be of that race to gain its benefits.
As a follow-up: How does this interact with the Aasimar Scion of Humanity trait?
Some aasimars’ heavenly ancestry is extremely distant. An aasimar with this racial trait counts as an outsider (native) and a humanoid (human) for any effect related to race, including feat prerequisites and spells that affect humanoids. She can pass for human without using the Disguise skill. This racial trait replaces the Celestial language and alters the native subtype.
The way I read it, if I take this alternate racial trait and then Racial Heritage, I can be a Native Outsider, Humanoid (Human), and say, Humanoid (Dwarf) at the same time. If the feat works as I think it does, of course.

The short:
Racial Heritage is legal, and works, except when choosing options from sources that the Additional Resources specifically restricts, such as Goblins of Golarion and The Advanced Race Guide.
Though Favored Class Bonuses from the Advanced Race Guide are up for grabs. They're an exception to what I just stated.
Yes, a Scion of Humanity Aasimar can select Racial Heritage.

Half-elves can take Half-elf, Elf, or Human FCBs in FPS play.
Half-orcs can take Half-orc or Human FCBs in PFS play, but not Orc, as those are contained in a section of the ARG that is not legal for play.
Okay, so they are not an exception like Nefreet implied?
But to use the OP's example, could an Aasimar take Scion of Humanity, then take Racial Heritage: Dwarf, then take Dwarf Favored Class bonuses? This is legal by the Paizo FAQ, but as I understand it is NOT legal in PFS, or is it?

This... I'm actually not sure about. I'd have to check, but don't you have to take both Racial heritage and Scion of Humanity at level 1? If so, an aasimar couldn't do that.
EDIT:
*finally finds answer*
Ah, Scion of Humanity is an alternate racial trait. I'd thought it was a feat.
From the ARG's entry on the Additional Resources Document
Note: Alternate racial traits, racial archetypes, racial evolutions, racial feats, and racial spells are only available for characters of the associated race. Racial equipment and magic items can be purchased and used by any race as long as the specific item permits it (for example, only halflings can purchase and use solidsmoke pipeweed).
Since racial heritage is in the Advanced Players Guide it looks like you could do this.
Occurs to me that this might be going a bit far to get a specific favored class bonus though.

It is legal in PFS. Favored Class Bonuses are allowed, even from the Advanced Race Guide. You just couldn't use Racial Heritage (Dwarf) to take racial feats from the Advanced Race Guide (but you can take dwarf racial feats from other books).

????
Ok, Am I missing the Puchline?
I guess I am a bit short on this?
I should go out in the yard and stare at the lawn ornaments for a bit, contemplate on the nature of Racial Hertiges of Dwarves and stroke my beard for a bit in thought.
Perhaps have a stout pint of Ale, quaffing it so hard the spot behind be is soaking wet.
Do lady dwarves have beards... wait... what was the question... I am confused...
