            It didn't get the asterisk for talking familiars in familiar folio. Which bums the hell out of me, because I think parrots should talk.
Am I reading too much into this asterisk oversight? I want a talking parrot!
Hmm
I think it is very arguable that a parrot can talk (since it uses the raven familiar stats). That is certainly the way that I've seen it played before. And I think the vast majority of GMs won't care enough to give you grief.
The bard sea singer archetype says the following to strengthen the argument :
a sea singer acquires an exotic pet—a monkey or parrot (treat as raven)
So, personally I'd take a parrot, and point it out to the GM at the start of the session. If the GM isn't convinced, then for that session the familiar is a raven (up to you if your character is insane enough to still think of it as a parrot :-)). But, at least around here, I'd guesstimate that it would be a parrot somewhere over 95% of the time (and quite possibly 100% of the time).

            Several people in the Pirate Familiar blog remark that because that parrot works like a raven, it can talk. And the designers don't come out and contradict them. Circumstantial but it does pile up.

Actually, that looks pretty solid to me. Not what people say in the thread but what the blog itself says:
Familiar . . . Statistics
Parrot. . . . . . Raven
Toucan . . . . . Raven (cannot speak)
Seems pretty clear that the parrot talks and the toucan doesn't.

d'oh, I completely overlooked that even though this was precisely the reason I went looking for that blog post.

sadly, I'd have to agree that for PFS there are just 2 ring styles (due to it being a "named" item. For PFS I'd refer you to the hubbub around celestial armor and upgrading... yeah, it is what it is.);
1) Common, Dwarven, Elven, and Gnome.
2) Giant, Goblin, Orc, and Undercommon.
again, as an option you might try a wand of Share Language spell.

Can one purchase a ring of eloquence (Pathfinder RPG Advanced Class Guide 216) with any combination of languages? Are restricted or banned languages such as Druidic or Androffan options?
At this time, only two configurations of the ring of eloquence exist in the organized play campaign. The first grants the ability to speak and understand Common, Dwarven, Elven, and Gnome. The second grants the ability to speak and understand Giant, Goblin, Orc, and Undercommon. Rings with other configurations may appear as treasure on Chronicle sheets.
